As a defiant abstainer of white interiors, HOW ON EARTH???

Radium 2025-01-31 20:28

Honestly it’s probably good, I hear the interior edges of the perforations absorb stains and are much harder to clean than the solid white material? Perhaps it’s time for a a new replacement color for white?

_casshern_ 2025-01-31 20:28

I bought the launch series primarily because of timing. I need a new car relatively soon, and I had assumed that the non-launch edition wouldn’t be available for several months. The “free” upgrades were nice, but for most of them I’d have been fine with the free paint color, black seats, etc. How wonder how soon the non-launch edition will be released.

ruly1000 2025-01-31 20:29

hey at least you can see when it needs cleaning... which is all the time.

hi_im_bored13 2025-01-31 20:29

It's really not that bad. Especially on polyurethane seats like in the teslas.

icrackcorn 2025-01-31 20:32

Who knows when non-launch will be released. Im hoping soon. I’m guessing when they’re almost sold out of the existing non-Juniper inventory.

berntout 2025-01-31 20:34

I think it looks clean and respect anyone who takes the time to care for white-colored stuff. However, discolorations are always easy to see on any white material unfortunately and it keeps me away from it.

JonG67x 2025-01-31 20:35

Given they haven’t even offered white in Europe on the launch edition I’m not sure you can read too much into this.

Crazey4wwe 2025-01-31 20:45

I’ve had a white interior on my 3 for 6 years. Looks good as new to this day with minor detailing maybe once every other year

CM2423 2025-01-31 20:45

Same need the non-launch edition too so I can pull a trigger on a new car. My current car is on its last breath

Atlanta-Mike 2025-01-31 20:49

We’ve had the white interior in two teslas - 2019 M3 and first year model y - care amounts to a wet wipe every 6 months or so. Cleanest seats I’ve ever owned. And I wear jeans everyday to work.

berntout 2025-01-31 20:53

You must not have kids. They try their best on dark colored stuff much less any white surface!

seeyousoon2 2025-01-31 20:56

Same I wipe my driver's seat down maybe once a week or so (30 seconds) but I wear dirty Warehouse clothes home. Worth it cuz it looks so much better than the black.

OSUfan88 2025-01-31 20:57

Same. I cannot imagine ordering a black interior. They just look so boring to be. The White interior is the most striking aspect of a Tesla IMO.

itzdivz 2025-01-31 20:59

Usually it cost $1000 in US for the white upgrade, since launch edition is free people are picking the most expensive options that are free of charge

PersonalityLower9734 2025-01-31 21:00

Glad I got my order in myself earlier. I don't think I would've ordered with the black interior. It looks nice as well but my preference is a white and shelving out that kind of money you kind of want to get what you want

Angry-Vegan69420 2025-01-31 21:01

Meanwhile my black seats are covered in dog drool stains that I can’t seem to get out.

Radium 2025-01-31 21:01

Solid white's not bad, I have a white interior Y and it's been very minimal cleaning

Electrical_Quality_6 2025-01-31 21:03

Give the people what they want, get more !

Bangaladore 2025-01-31 21:04

I mean the reason is obvious-- everyone knows white interior is an upsell, so you might as well configure it to "increase" the car value. But frankly, if I was in the market for this car, I 100% would not purchase it based on this selling out. I've owned a black interior model 3 and now a cream interior model S, and I would never get a black interior car again. Its a world of difference aesthetically, but most importantly for the interior temperature.

_casshern_ 2025-01-31 21:16

That's why I went for white. Most cars have black seats; at least white is a bit more unique!

_casshern_ 2025-01-31 21:18

Yeah, but if you hate white seats it's still not worth it to get white seats just because they are free! :) But to your point, I got the white seats because I liked them better, however I am not sure I would have paid for the upgrade.

Maconi 2025-01-31 21:20

Most people don’t realize the Launch black interior is also upgraded (with microsuede). The regular black interior will have gray cloth instead. So they’re not losing any value, just pick the preferred color.

KieferSutherland 2025-01-31 21:42

wipe seat once a week? never.

RockboundPotato 2025-01-31 21:44

I think I’m jaded because I work in a machine shop. While not working on the floor there’s just kinda a veneer on everything I don’t think would translate over to a white interior very well.

aceinagameofjacks 2025-01-31 21:52

Same. My S has white seats, the plaid I’m ordering next will have white seats. Too bad cuber truck doesn’t offer it, yet.

superjacket64 2025-01-31 21:53

Copy paste robot, bee boop bee boop, lol

mizzikee 2025-01-31 21:53

Way back in 21 when we bought our model Y my wife opted for the white seats. The week we brought it home our youngest son spilled his chocolate frappe in the back all over the seats. They still look new today. They are surprisingly easy to clean and maintain.

cpatkyanks24 2025-01-31 21:54

Agree, I love my white interior. It is not difficult to clean at all.

Rey123x 2025-01-31 21:57

I was saying the same thing, that's why I got the black interior and put custom blue covers over them, looks way better

gregsapphire 2025-01-31 21:58

Probably because all upgrades are included in the price of the launch series they went this the all the “extras”. Guess people just want the extra stuff if they don’t have to pay for it or if it is “free/included”

andygchicago 2025-01-31 21:59

Most people don't get white interiors because they stain really easily, especially leather. But because this interior is synthetic, and with the rising popularity of ceramic interior coatings, white interiors can be very low maintenance

Issaction 2025-01-31 22:00

The white is really easy to keep looking white. I bought a used car with 2 years of jeans dye transfer and it came out easily, making it look like new. When I sold it 2 years later with 60k total miles it still looked new.

Lostbot218 2025-01-31 22:06

This!! I had the white seats and loved them. Then when Highland came out I went and looked at it and it didn’t pop the same way. Felt like all the perforated edges were going to retain dirt and be harder to clean. Only thing that makes me lean away from the white seats again. Otherwise I loved them

Fit_Entrepreneur6791 2025-01-31 22:13

As someone who is eyeing to buy this car, I’m genuinely disappointed. Do you guys think they’re going to restock the launch series with white interior or will I have to wait for the white interior to be available with the wide release? The pricing is just too good.

ElGuano 2025-01-31 22:16

Do we know they're not going to just replenish supply next week, or sometime in Feb?

DuneProphecy 2025-01-31 22:28

The new perforated seats are not faring as well as the solid pleather. My coworkers 2024 white seats already looking rough.

ScorchedCSGO 2025-01-31 22:32

I have kids and my white Model 3 seats are doing great. So just to be blunt, there are red wine spill videos on youtube where they test the Tesla white interior seats. It is amazing how this material doesn't stain easily.

PiLoTpEtE76 2025-01-31 22:48

works great for when you rent it out as a robotaxi

Maconi 2025-01-31 22:48

Sorry, I’ll use AI to reword each post next time. 🤖

unkilbeeg 2025-01-31 22:54

White would not be my first choice... But black would be my last choice. If black and white are the only options, I will always get a white interior. Black is just too hot if you live in a hot climate. Light grey or tan would be better.

BluSyn 2025-01-31 23:06

Not surprised. My Model 3 has black interior. Already reserved Model Y Launch with white interior. I regret not getting white on my Model 3, I’m sure others think the same.

cying247 2025-01-31 23:07

I’m going to go with a lack of a dash on 3 and y being more striking. Giant screens in general. Falcon wing doors on x. Cybertruck entire exterior. All more striking than white seats.

Bay_Burner 2025-01-31 23:09

Pay an extra $19k total get this $1k feature free amongst other things

matthew19 2025-01-31 23:26

There are some warnings of the white stitching being more prevalent Across the seat, which will stain and not clean as easily.

seeyousoon2 2025-01-31 23:27

Then I guess my clothes get the seat dirty, but your seat gets your clothes dirty. ; )

superjacket64 2025-01-31 23:29

Or just make original replies and reply naturally rather than copy paste. Maybe you do not need to make the same reply to every person with a similar comment….

johnnysweatband 2025-01-31 23:34

The white looks fucking awesome. And I had a 2020 3 that looked as pristine as the day I bought it after 5 years.

veritas3241 2025-01-31 23:42

We have black in Texas and just precool the car. ezpz

itzdivz 2025-01-31 23:42

Exactly lol

itzdivz 2025-01-31 23:44

Theres always gonna be a market where people want the newest and flashiest things. I got burned with a lemon highland when it came out. 2.5more yrs till i check out the juniper upgrade.

comoestasmiyamo 2025-01-31 23:59

Black interior Teslas are a cave with a mis matched headlining. White breaks it up and is more "Tesla"

soeffingsick 2025-02-01 00:20

I wonder why they don’t just take the orders and fulfill them as white configurations become available again 🤷

Dadarian 2025-02-01 00:28

I love the white. I get in a car and I forget the norm is black. It just feels so… cramped.

Knightlife71 2025-02-01 01:06

All you people claiming the white seats clean easily are crazy. Worst seats I have ever had to try to keep clean and I baby my cars.

shigydigy 2025-02-01 01:07

Are you saying that, for both white and black, there is an upgraded material that is ONLY available on this launch edition?? AFAIK that would be the only exclusive benefit that cannot be obtained later (other than the Launch branding cosmetic touches)

Relevant_Raccoon2937 2025-02-01 01:08

I'll wait for hw5 in 2026, by that time the kinks should be worked out

Maconi 2025-02-01 01:11

The white is the same for Launch and normal. The black is different for Launch and normal (adding microsuede to the doors and dash on Launch). Which actually makes the black Launch interior more rare, especially since most people don’t seem to realize it yet. I made a post with pictures here (the RWD is what the non-Launch black will look like, ignoring the speaker difference): https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/s/oWwmuYiMvj

blueridgeblah 2025-02-01 01:35

Regular Y production is rumored to start in Feb. I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before sales and delivery. Tesla needs a better year. If the ‘new’ Y doesn’t give them one, they’re going to finally not look like a new penny on Wall Street.

kash04 2025-02-01 02:45

I have a 2016 white interior model x, and am still amazed how easy they are to clean!

AnOoglyBoogly 2025-02-01 03:18

Can’t go back. Black just feels like a rental outside of the Cybertruck.

Dr_Pippin 2025-02-01 03:27

The black is really easy to keep looking black, too.

initial_launch 2025-02-01 03:36

I wish the Model 3 had a white interior with black alcantara side panels. The white pleather side panels don’t feel as nice as or luxurious imo.

siddhuncle 2025-02-01 04:06

These are Reddit comments, not a job lol. He is not obligated to spend even more time carefully curating a response to each person with the same comment.

Issaction 2025-02-01 04:12

So true. Tesla is really innovative.

PriorVariety 2025-02-01 05:12

I can’t imagine why they would mark them out of stock if they did not actually have limited quantity. If there was not a limited quantity they would make as many as it takes to satiate the demand and take people’s money for the markup.

CautiousRound 2025-02-01 05:12

I hate the old black seats but the new ones I like better than the white. This coming from an OG Model 3 owner ogling the new car.

Jcvancity 2025-02-01 06:48

Stain easily. Not worth even free.

eternaldarkness69 2025-02-01 07:07

I did not see that coming

_casshern_ 2025-02-01 11:33

I suspect that’s all for the launch series. They didn’t say “back ordered” or “delayed” to…”. “Sold out” seems to imply that it’s well, sold out. But were you really going to get all the same options anyways? For example, I’d rather have put FSD on a credit card or get the monthly subscription. I don’t need the tow hitch, etc. If you get a well appointed regular Model Y pricing shouldn’t be too different.

Nakatomi2010 2025-02-01 12:20

Fascinating

ruSRious 2025-02-01 13:17

in my opinion the white seats are unappealing and hard to look at and I’ll never understand the appeal. They’re just too paper white and bright. Obviously many people like them though. On a side note regarding the launch edition, I wouldn’t buy one. Its way too early in the production cycle and I wouldn’t want a car off the line in the first 3 months.

andrew2018022 2025-02-01 13:45

White on white was my ideal, I got blue on black. Not bad

barronlroth 2025-02-01 13:49

Aren’t both colors faux leather?

itzdivz 2025-02-01 16:07

White faux leather is softer according to everyone. Probably the chemicals makes it easier to breakdown. I only had the white leather once in the 3 tesla’s i had over the 8years. It was showing signs of jean stain like 2 month in, glad the car got lemon law’d for being an early verson highland. Dont want tesla to charge me for stained seats when i return the lease lol

SarcasticNotes 2025-02-01 16:10

Wish they had cream like the S and X

superjacket64 2025-02-01 16:26

But why do it to begin with, the last thing I would like to read while going through comments is the same reply ten times, and did they go back to copy paste their previous comment or did they already copy it preemptively, these are the important questions lol

bobby-joe 2025-02-01 17:29

Maybe you already know, but I’ve read that seat covers can hinder airbag performance. Just FYI, as there are airbags apparently embedded in the sides of the seats. https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_eu/GUID-0943510B-B8A7-4E0E-8998-62ACB9BD4D12.html “Warning Do not use seat covers on Model Y. Doing so could restrict deployment of the seat-mounted side airbags if a collision occurs. It can also reduce the accuracy of the Occupant Classification System (OCS), if equipped.”

Present-Ad-9598 2025-02-01 17:37

Yes but the white colored ones use different chemicals and they are WAY softer, I could’ve worded that better^. Part of the process for building the doors is hitting certain pieces with mallets and the white ones dent so fucking easily

jedi2155 2025-02-01 17:39

1st gen model 3 had microsuede (alcantera) headliners that went to the cheaper textured surface on the later model 3s. Same will happen in cybertruck and other models.

jedi2155 2025-02-01 17:41

I had white seats in my Model 3 in 2018, loved every bit of it and had very little issues. I ate in the car regularly too but just used baby wipes from costco to clean it up. Super easy to maintain. Only sold it in 2024

jedi2155 2025-02-01 17:41

Blue on white was gorgeous

Present-Ad-9598 2025-02-01 17:53

The old materials were different, to cut costs in told we switched to a different vegan leather mixture and now they kinda suck. I too have a 2018 model 3 but it’s all black, still kinda stains and “patinas” but it’s an easy cleanup

Fanboyofeverything1 2025-02-01 19:13

Exactly! I'll never get white again.

pdparticle 2025-02-01 21:04

Extremely misleading headline. No actual numbers shared, lol.

CrysisDeu 2025-02-02 01:47

can you still edit the exterior color? Would the interior be changed to black?

Silly-Temporary-5539 2025-02-02 02:24

Anyone think they’ll restock or this is it? I really wanted white interior. 😣

astroman1978 2025-02-02 04:30

Got passed by a $20k Hyundai tonight. Got all excited because I thought it was the new Y. 🥹

Competitive-Ice3432 2025-02-02 04:59

I think white and black are both boring, white on white has a grandparent look to it. The black gets so hot in the heat but white I can foresee getting a yellow tint over time. I wish they would offer red or a modern take on a brown interior.

OSUfan88 2025-02-02 06:52

White is a grandparents look!?? Red or yellow reminds me of “SUPER GAMER DORITIOS MOUNTAIN DEW EXXTREME!”. This comes from someone who has red seats in their Mazda rx8

Competitive-Ice3432 2025-02-02 07:10

White interior on red and white cars gives me senior citizen vibes. But I do like white interior when the exterior is black. All I’m asking is for more color options so we can match up our cars more to our liking.

Practical_Yam6371 2025-02-04 09:51

Me too

skyypirate 2025-02-05 02:56

The LR Model Y always have microsuede black materials. Only the SR has cloth.

ILoveInNOut76 2025-02-11 02:01

Do you know this for sure? That the black interior of the Launch edition is microsuede? I have not been able to find anything that says this is the case....Thanks!

Maconi 2025-02-11 04:36

It’s either that all RWD and AWD models (Launch and Non-Launch) have different black interiors or the Launch AWD specifically has a special interior. I was assuming the later based on the website calling the microsuede a “Launch” feature but that may just be FOMO marketing. It’s weird that the Launch RWD doesn’t have the microsuede in China so I’m honestly not sure.
