Model 2!

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-30 21:39

I'm sure all of you are like me and praying for a minivan

ShitWhatsAGoodName 2025-01-30 21:42

Yea I’ll believe it when I see it

ercanhocalar 2025-01-30 21:42

Fool me once...

JellyBearBlue 2025-01-30 21:43

Introduce? And how long until it releases? Looking at the Cybertruck, Roadster, and Semi, we’d be lucky to get it this decade

moonisflat 2025-01-30 21:45

BYD has under $10K car. This will have zero impact globally and little in US.

Introduce 2026 Available 2028

ridukosennin 2025-01-30 21:47

As someone with several kids, a BEV minivan would be an instant purchase.

coolguy100 2025-01-30 21:48

Good they should start taking deposits any day now then

cadium 2025-01-30 21:48

Its probably just Model 2 and Robotaxi as 2 separate "models"

Fantastic_Train_7270 2025-01-30 21:48

They said production starts 1h 2025.

IWantToPlayGame 2025-01-30 21:48

Tesla can make the next generation Odyssey/Sienna/Carnival that are absolutely killing it in that market.

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-30 21:49

There is the ID Buzz which is cool, but I'd rather a Tesla.

BrokDaMout 2025-01-30 21:53

You’re too generous. Given their track record, release is 3-4 years after announcement lol

Slayr79 2025-01-30 21:54

Have you seen the guy on YouTube who merged a Honda Odyssey with a Model S Plaid battery and motors?

stopthatMexicanWave 2025-01-30 21:54

shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

IWantToPlayGame 2025-01-30 21:54

I have not.

KenKaniff_00_ 2025-01-30 21:58

I'll tell you the truth, I would gladly switch to a smaller model of my model 3 (also because I like the design of the robotaxi, although many have criticized it)

FoShizzleShindig 2025-01-30 21:58

BYD isn't coming to the US anytime, if at all.

IAmWeary 2025-01-30 21:59

Hey, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, cheap!

rigored 2025-01-30 22:00

I’d rather not a Tesla, but not sure anyone else can put together a decent product top to bottom

Radium 2025-01-30 22:00

The new model manufacturing line has been secretly being built inside giga Texas for over a year. There is no way they could begin production in Q1 or Q2 if that isn’t true.

ken830 2025-01-30 22:01

What track record? You seem to only remember stuff that are later than expected.

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-30 22:01

I am hoping in a couple years the ID Buzz will have some kinks worked out. The other VW EVs seem good, and once they're all on NACS that could be a good family vehicle. I just think you could take the Cybertruck and get rid of the bed to make it a 3 row van and that'd be something great

fooknprawn 2025-01-30 22:05

So, parts bin engineering like everyone else does. Smart.

Because it's 2030

ridukosennin 2025-01-30 22:20

Yes however it looks quite weird and VW quality isn’t something I’d trust for a new vehicle category

Coreldan 2025-01-30 22:24

Here in Finland where BYD is actively present and had 7 models for Sale, the cheapest starts at 32k€. Seal that is closest to Model 3 is almost 10k More expensive than Model 3 and is not exactly even close to Model 3s features. I assume we have tariff on BYDs but I believe Model 3 has some too as they are made in china. BYD has been here for several years and they arnt selling very meaningful amounts

UnSCo 2025-01-30 22:26

This is happening starting with a refreshed Model S, mark my words. Probably coming this year. I would’ve hoped for some of it on the new Model Y but I think they’ll do what’s traditionally done which is integrate new technologies into their lower-volume offerings. New Model S will get all the smaller features from the new 3/Y like RGB lighting, frunks with drain plugs, turn signal stalks, along with the Cybertruck’s 800v HV battery architecture, 48V LV architecture, power frunk, and steer-by-wire. I could also see it getting rear-wheel steering. Model X will follow suit, then by 2027-2030 we’ll see those brought over into the Model 3/Y through mid-cycle or even full refreshes of those models. Go ahead and downvote me too, just make sure you reply with how crazy I sound so I can come back when it happens just like when the Model X dropped to $79,990 and it happened less than a year later lol.

SpectroBR 2025-01-30 22:26

Plus EXPENSIVE

DuneProphecy 2025-01-30 22:27

Good, we need more innovation.

BaronSharktooth 2025-01-30 22:27

Does the Buzz have particular kinks? I really love the looks and utility of that vehicle.

Derpymcderrp 2025-01-30 22:27

I really can't argue with this

cmg0047 2025-01-30 22:30

How long did the Model Y refresh take to get to production once announced?

rental_car_fast 2025-01-30 22:33

They said a lot of things

paradoxofchoice 2025-01-30 22:35

unless they are just stripped down versions of the 3 and Y. Like the ones they currently sell in Mexico but with even less?

WrappedRocket 2025-01-30 22:36

They said built on existing lines during the earnings call

-CaptainFormula- 2025-01-30 22:37

I'm hoping for a pickup truck. I had this fever dream that they released something they called a truck once. But I must have been on a bender.

whalechasin 2025-01-30 22:38

instead of looking at three greatly differentiated products with new production lines and techniques different to all preceding vehicle, consider the timeline of production post reveal of the Y unveil, S/X Plaid refresh, 3/Y Highland/Juniper refresh. the fact that management state these will be built on existing product lines indicates they will come a lot sooner - and that they were working on these vehicles at least as far back at April 2024

paradoxofchoice 2025-01-30 22:38

I think the Kia van will come next. there's also one on rivians road map but probably not for a very long long time.

mwwood22 2025-01-30 22:39

Aka “cyber taxi” with a wheel

MSTK_Burns 2025-01-30 22:41

I literally don't care about anything other than what is taking up so much space that the robotaxi doesn't have back seats.

Joostey 2025-01-30 22:42

All you dorks that don’t like the light bar? This one’s for you

Radium 2025-01-30 22:44

Define line I guess I’m sure it’ll have lines that it spiders out into dedicated to the new car

BrokDaMout 2025-01-30 22:45

Good point. They are improving. 1st gen Model Y announcement and release was a year I think. But roadster, semi, and cybertruck was very aggressive

007meow 2025-01-30 22:46

Less time than the Roadster, that's for sure.

Wojtas_ 2025-01-30 22:57

>VW quality isn’t something I’d trust for a new vehicle category As opposed to the *fabulous* track record of Tesla's new releases lol

Tensoneu 2025-01-30 22:59

Model 3 took 1-2 years? Model Y 1 year but they're based on the same platform. Edit: pre-ordered in 2016 and took delivery in 2018. Vehicle first delivery was in 2017 for Model 3.

ridukosennin 2025-01-30 23:03

Yeah, realistically I’d likely wait at least a year after release for any Tesla product

feurie 2025-01-30 23:04

lol production within five months means the equipment is all there.

feurie 2025-01-30 23:05

Companies work in vehicles for more than a year. They’ve been alluding to them for a year because they don’t want people to wait.

B33f-Supreme 2025-01-30 23:09

Does that mean the Juniper Y is also built on this new platform?

[deleted] 2025-01-30 23:10

Gen 2 Roadster owners in shambles

cmg0047 2025-01-30 23:14

I think things have improved drastically.  I know it's an "excuse" but I think COVID ruined a lot of R&D/Manufacturing processes.  People don't seem to take that into account.  I think the CT would've come out in less than 4 years had they announced in 2021 instead of 2019.   Who knows about the roadster, but at least the Semi was on the streets before the CT.  Now they just need to reach volume production.

snark42 2025-01-30 23:16

I like, but I have some nostalgia for the Microbus. Everyone I know with an ID.4 seems to think it's decent. Same platform for ID.Buzz.

cmg0047 2025-01-30 23:16

I was being facetious, but they officially announced it what beginning of this month and its already in customer hands?  The roadster is another beast altogether.  I have no idea what the deal is with that, but I assume it's a special case since they will legit sell less than a few hundred of those per year if I even had to guess.

xxyer 2025-01-30 23:16

asianApostate 2025-01-30 23:44

Yeah, CT had pandemic and it was just crazy materials.  Very much a crazy concept and unfortunately not all they hoped it would be.  Or else they would have not announced this would be the last stainless steel  vehicle

Nope, Juniper is just a refresh. Model Q will be a smaller Y, built on the new 48v/800v platform.

AJHenderson 2025-01-31 00:04

In other words, cybercab is back to being the model 2 since it can't possibly happen in the promised time frame.

SchalaZeal01 2025-01-31 00:09

Probably isn't road legal due to norms like going above 60 mph and reinforcement. Stuff that shouldn't be absolutely required for intra-city commuting.

Schnort 2025-01-31 00:12

I've only seen one on the roads here in Austin. It seems like a really expensive nod to the aging hippies. $60k starting MSRP with 200-ish miles range is pretty uncompelling.

Pacifica PHEV starts at 52k, but I agree that range is probably limiting for the demographic it's targeting.

Ginsoda13 2025-01-31 00:59

Like the autopilot

cmg0047 2025-01-31 01:11

What other car companies announced a product then had it in production within the same month?  I'm genuinely asking.

Termsandconditionsch 2025-01-31 01:11

My problem with it is that our other car (ICE) is another VAG brand and we have had so many problems with it. Oil leaks, aircon leaking water into the interior.. I don’t trust VW to not stuff it up. The Buzz is a cool car though.

Termsandconditionsch 2025-01-31 01:13

I have had a much better experience with Tesla than with VW (Skoda in my case, but it’s pretty much a rebadged Passat).

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-31 01:19

Yeah I know they don't have a good reputation but anecdotal evidence is just that. My least reliable car so far has been a RAV4 that constantly had little issues and even a break down. We replaced it with a hybrid X5 that had literally nothing go wrong in 100k miles even though lots of people say BMW are fickle and the phev power train especially. I also have a 6 year old M2 that's been issue free (but only 20k miles.) I don't blame you for not wanting to buy based on a bad experience though. It definitely crossed my mind when we got our second Toyota (a Sienna) but I just hoped that RAV4 was an unlucky outlier

yhsong1116 2025-01-31 01:25

We will see

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-31 01:27

The range won't be as big an issue once it can get supercharger access. Without that though the range is an absolute deal breaker for me. I don't trust the other charging networks at all

Errand_Wolfe_ 2025-01-31 01:28

I like how people point to the Roadster as if a $250k sports car is what makes or breaks companies. it literally doesn't matter, thats why it hasn't come out yet

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-31 01:33

I feel like Tesla could easily take the Cybertruck platform and convert it into a van. If you took all the same drivetrain and battery stuff and put on regular wheels and tires instead of those huge off-road tires it'd probably get amazing range too

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-31 01:34

I think the Buzz looks awesome too

billerator 2025-01-31 01:44

I had a whole book of them

Acceptable-Peace-69 2025-01-31 01:45

For a refresh, it doesn’t usually take long. You can’t announce too soon because people will just wait and you’ll have to discount too much to move existing inventory. Most automakers go to great lengths to hide new updates until the last minute.

teriauntydeparonthay 2025-01-31 01:45

Does this include Model S and Model X to get the ambient lighting update?

OkLetterhead7047 2025-01-31 01:49

Introduced at $25,000 in 2025 Launched at $45,000 in 2027 Mark my words

prestodigitarium 2025-01-31 01:50

dhanson865 2025-01-31 01:57

> Introduce 2026 No, in the current quarters conference call and PDF they say introduced in the first half of 2025. In prior quarters and the current quarter they made it clear they intended to produce these in 2025.

icaranumbioxy 2025-01-31 02:02

Have fun when you get in a crash in your $10K car.

coldcoffee007 2025-01-31 02:09

There is no chance that this is happening

cmg0047 2025-01-31 02:14

I understand what you're saying, I think the main offenders that come to mind are say Nissan with the new Z I feel like that took at least a year or 2 to release after announcement.  I think the GR Corolla took even longer than that and the Civic Type R. Now those are definitely special use cases when comparing the Model Y, those are just the examples that came to mind first.

jasoncross00 2025-01-31 02:26

Remember, “Introduce” means Musk on stage giving us a look at them with some…aspirational… numbers, and probably opening reservations. It will be 12-36 months before deliveries to consumers, as with most car “introductions.”

leehwan 2025-01-31 02:28

it’s a joke

SchalaZeal01 2025-01-31 02:31

nope, you can't say bs in earning calls If later on, they find its not possible, they can give an excuse, but introduce in this case, means production starts.

jasoncross00 2025-01-31 02:35

That’s only true if they claimed they start volume production. If they claim they “introduce” it, it means exactly that—it is revealed at a marketing event.

marksocials97 2025-01-31 02:38

Model 3 is already pretty darn affordable, and very small. How much smaller will it be compared to the 3?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-01-31 03:03

We're within 6 months and they're still saying it's happening. It's very rare that 6 months would turn into multiple years, especially when it comes to start of production for a car.

sudrapp 2025-01-31 03:29

$15k car that will actually launch at $35K Reserve yours today!!

Fantastic_Train_7270 2025-01-31 03:32

I’ve read a lot of rumors on model S dropping a refreshed this year, so you don’t sound too crazy.

adoodas 2025-01-31 04:27

Crazy that they are saying models, in the plural. Anyone saying they'll announce it this year and then deliver it next year or after is simply not paying attention. Just look what they did with Model Y refresh. They know new models will cannabilize existing sales. They will have as little time as possible between announcement and first sales. If I had to guess, announcement from beginning of production will be 1 month or less, first deliveries in under 3 months from announcement. This isn't the CT

grizzly_teddy 2025-01-31 05:02

So a cheaper, smaller EV? They can sell millions of those in Europe.

Fire69 2025-01-31 05:21

Fire69 2025-01-31 05:23

AJHenderson 2025-01-31 06:25

The cybercab was originally work on a model 2 that was a cheaper car until it was "cancelled" and they announced cybercab instead. Now robotaxi is hedging and we have a "new cheaper car built on the new platform" aka, they went back to the model 2 that cyber cab originally was.

Termsandconditionsch 2025-01-31 06:35

This is true, it’s anecdotal. But VW has the diesel scandal too and software wise they are well behind Tesla still. Either way, I got another year on the lease and then we’ll see what’s available. Also I really liked that you just go on a website and order your car. Skoda tried to upsell with all sorts of crap.

Secure_Detective_602 2025-01-31 06:45

marksocials97 2025-01-31 13:40

Backseats are gonna be non existent lol

grizzly_teddy 2025-01-31 14:25

Small hatch, 4 seater would be great, especially for Europe. Not sure about a mini Y. mini Y is basically a model 3. Model Y isn't that big of an SUV. If they are looking to maximize their addressable market, I think the other model would actually be a bigger model Y, not smaller. However they said they are battery constrained, assuming they can get their batteries, I think a larger model Y makes sense. However this doesn't fit with Tesla saying they are making more affordable models, as a larger model Y would be more expensive. Just personally I don't see that much of a market for a car that is bigger than a model 3 and smaller than a model Y. Maybe that's just me but I don't really see it.

[deleted] 2025-01-31 14:35

Radium 2025-01-31 15:41

deten 2025-01-31 16:04

Yes, I know its a "small" market, but just make a platform that can be a SUV or a Minivan and just put different shells over it. Give me the sliding doors on the side. Boom.

greyscales 2025-01-31 16:31

The Semi production began in September 2022.

Ceramicrabbit 2025-01-31 16:35

I feel like it should be easy for them to take the Cybertruck platform and make it a van. If you put regular wheels and tires on that instead of the huge off-road ones and the also dropped the ride height I bet you could get like 375 miles of range with that battery and drivetrain That would be such a killer product

It's all bullshit. Anytime Tesla sales slip, to prevent flopping their market grasp they announce the same things 'on track,' you all lap up the bullshit, never hit the deliverable, always move the goalpost, rinse repeat. Shit company, shit vehicles, shit ceo. Impossible pill to swallow for owners: bring on the downvotes.

Disneymovies 2025-01-31 19:34

Have to keep it in the news for the stock price because investors want a cheaper model. Cannot provide too many details or a clear timeline because it will cannibalize current 3/Y sales.

1960vegan 2025-01-31 19:50

Thinking the affordable models will share a lot of parts with Cybercab platform, though with steering wheel and pedals, and will be produced in different lines in the same factory. (Coming from reading WI's Elon Musk biography.)

sokocanuck 2025-01-31 23:25

Considering the build quality of their $100k+ models, an affordable model will be downright scary!

Me?

F Teslas-mine just died with no warning, now have to get it towed and have no idea what’s wrong with it. Lames cars

Won't matter to me. I would never consider another Tesla.

Fantastic just in time for the impending recession 👍

bittabet 2025-02-04 03:16

That would be wild to start producing a car they announce the same year while the Roadster announced in 2017 is still nonexistent.

JackSpearow1521 2025-02-04 18:29

I think this model will not be announced (with prototype presentation, specs, and prices) before it actually goes on sale. Similar to M3 and MY refresh that existed as rumors only until you could already buy them. (And similarly there could be a big regional gap with one Giga factory taking the lead in producing it for only one part of the world first.) Comparing Tesla communication of this model with all the previous ones, I get a strong sense that they are fearing to cannibalize their existing sales because their new model will be very similar to existing ones and Model 3 seems to be selling much less already. At least here in Germany I see almost no refreshed Model 3s driving or parked any where.

2CommaNoob 2025-02-07 03:36

There is no point to release a cheaper model. A used model 3 is already a cheap bargain and the new model will be competing with a slightly used model 3.

khovland92 2025-02-07 12:09

$29k with state incentives and estimated electricity savings

astros1991 2025-02-14 06:34

You’re using rumours as actual company facts. I think that’s the issue there.

astros1991 2025-02-14 06:35

Like what? People said the same thing when they announced the Model 3 performance, and they delivered. It’s a great car. People said the Cybertruck is just vaporware, well, it became the top selling pickup EV in the US last year. The rest will come too.

astros1991 2025-02-14 06:38

Erm.. car production line can be used to produce different models of different platforms on the same line. Today’s production management system is very robust you can manage the variants on the line.

splinteredt 2025-02-23 20:17

You say the car ran it's life, but in 7 years? Sorry I'm not a car person but thinking of getting a Tesla and wound up in this thread while researching. Would you not recommend getting one?

soldieroscar 2025-02-23 20:22

It seems the maintenance is non existent at first, but when parts do break down later on, they are very costly. It would depend on your situation.

splinteredt 2025-02-23 20:30

Can I ask why? I came to this thread while researching on buying one, looking mostly at the 3. Would be curious to hear why you wouldn't get another, and maybe what you would recommend instead?

taipeileviathan 2025-03-23 17:24

🤣 thank you for this blast from the past. Oh nostalgia…
