aschulz90 2025-01-24 01:16

Literally randomly just saw this. $60k is a hefty price tag at first glance however if you want wheels, paint, FSD, tow hitch, it is only a 1k premium?

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:16

[deleted]

nhlducks35 2025-01-24 01:22

Full self driving and all other options that cost money are included for free (or included within the price depending you see it).

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 01:22

The info page confirms a 8 camera setup implying a bumper camera.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:24

[deleted]

leeharris100 2025-01-24 01:25

It's 20k more, no FSD

marksocials97 2025-01-24 01:25

Tesla needs to stop including “gas savings” into the price, very misleading

SweepTheLeg_ 2025-01-24 01:25

It is 35% more for the base.

McD-Szechuan 2025-01-24 01:26

Gotta find a way to push FSD. Making folks think it’s free is a better play than showing line item prices

still qualifys for EV tax credit of 7.5k, but not for my state rebates of 3.5k, and 6.5k for uber/lyft drivers. I'm missing out on 10k discount, so gonna wait for the normal release.

exjr_ 2025-01-24 01:32

It comes with the turn signals, it's just not shown. The buttons you see are for the windshield wipers and high beams (which is stupid, IMO. The stalk is there already).

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:32

[deleted]

bustex1 2025-01-24 01:34

If you want to be one of the first ones to have it yes.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:34

Not from my perspective. They could word it better, but here in Canada it's common to spend $100/week on gas. Over 8 years it could be 30k cheaper to have an EV Maybe we should require gas cars to include maintenance and fuel costs in their ads!

mikemacman 2025-01-24 01:34

Yeah. Those savings evaporate if you supercharge frequently.

shibiwan 2025-01-24 01:35

They are doing it for their used cars too. Mildly infuriating when you're trying to compare prices.

RealKent 2025-01-24 01:35

Dang. I was thinking of trading up for the front bumper camera and ventilated seats, but after getting my AI4 2023 MYLR for $38k after EOQ discounts with federal and state tax credits, I think I’ll hang onto it.

humanwire 2025-01-24 01:35

Anyone see a front bumper camera? And if I'm reading the Tesla website correctly, the back seats are ventilated as well now?

feurie 2025-01-24 01:36

If you want all those things it’s cheaper. A fully loaded or AWD with quicksilver, 20s, and white interior is $62k.

feurie 2025-01-24 01:36

It’s the first editions. Same as Cybertruck. People knew it wasn’t “free”.

McD-Szechuan 2025-01-24 01:37

The top level I replied to literally called it *free* lol. It works.

texasproof 2025-01-24 01:38

Don’t ask what I paid for that exact configuration in January 2023…

aschulz90 2025-01-24 01:39

Good call I compared it to the RWD

Fantastic_Train_7270 2025-01-24 01:39

no one is forcing you to buy anything lol, you can just wait for the regular release.

Helpdesk512 2025-01-24 01:39

'Compare Models' DOES LIST the new front facing 8th camera

frodogrotto 2025-01-24 01:41

Interesting that this doesn’t have the new Glacier Blue or Black option for colors

Short-Service1248 2025-01-24 01:41

Which to tbf, you shouldn’t be

imacleopard 2025-01-24 01:41

> require gas cars to include maintenance and fuel costs in their ads! No. I just want to see what the out-the-door price is. Tesla needs to get rid of the bs tactic because it's misleading when trying to compare across different makes.

charliegumptu 2025-01-24 01:42

those savings also wiped out by insurance cost

insujang 2025-01-24 01:42

Not sure if I have to buy launch edition given the future of EV tax credit is very unpromising. It includes every options so for me it is quite a good deal.

Capital_54 2025-01-24 01:43

Jealous of state rebates. In my state our only rebate is getting to pay $200/year extra for registration.

PlaneCandy 2025-01-24 01:43

Quite interesting the top speed is only 125 mph. Not that it matters for anyone in the US, but its a 10mph reduction over the existing models.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:43

[deleted]

apatheticwizardsfan 2025-01-24 01:43

I don’t really understand the pricing. Is including FSD just an introductory thing they’re including on the first edition? Because I want nothing to do with FSD nor a $60K price tag.

marksocials97 2025-01-24 01:44

They do… most if not all cars sold in America show the annual gas cost on the window sticker

Capital_54 2025-01-24 01:44

Front bumper camera confirmed, rear seats are not ventilated, but are heated and have 2 way power folding

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 01:44

Supercharging is completely fine. Edit : [Source](https://www.batterytechonline.com/charging/report-supercharging-doesn-t-degrade-tesla-battery-life) data for the unaware.

hotinmyigloo 2025-01-24 01:45

Bingo

yessir-nosir6 2025-01-24 01:45

If I already have an EV then i’m saving nothing, hence misleading. hybrid vehicles save gas but they don’t don’t advertise it the same way.

Lovevas 2025-01-24 01:46

Because you need to pay 80k + 8K FSD to get X, not to mention colors

Lovevas 2025-01-24 01:46

Not forcing, you can wait until non-launch version

no-tenemos-triko-tri 2025-01-24 01:46

Interesting - the glacier blue is not available for the US market.

Assanater601 2025-01-24 01:46

No shot I’d own a tessy without home charging. Nor would I advise anyone to (unless you have free charging at work).

abaybay99 2025-01-24 01:47

Weirdly they mentioned this with the Model 3 refresh. It’s the new tire, it has a different max speed rating but is significantly more efficient. Easy tradeoff.

Tipakee 2025-01-24 01:47

The $60k is the base price. Edit: I didn't realize the add-on prices are waived.

abaybay99 2025-01-24 01:47

Yeah it’s a way to tamp down demand for early adopters I suppose. These things will sell like hotcakes

PlaneCandy 2025-01-24 01:47

Maybe because the Model X costs 33% more.. and thats without any options. Specing it like the Launch edition brings it to 90k

joeybab3 2025-01-24 01:48

I only supercharge mine and so far it doesn't seem to like it too much lol, degradation had increased over the last two years I've owned it

kylansb 2025-01-24 01:49

64k after tax

PlaneCandy 2025-01-24 01:49

Ah didn't follow that. Did they explain why the max range is down then? I would've expected they included some efficiency improvements.

Emotional-Buddy-2219 2025-01-24 01:50

You can click a button on the website to exclude this it is quite easy to do

frodogrotto 2025-01-24 01:50

For this launch series, yes. But the base launch series Model Y comes with FSD and paint option and all that included

Radium 2025-01-24 01:50

To be fair, hardly anyone drives an EV still. It's smart of them to convert ICE drivers. It's just a checkbox to look at the price without it, and they have another checkbox to see the tax/fees included. As an existing EV driver it is annoying to turn the checkbox off every time though.

marksocials97 2025-01-24 01:51

Yup I know that, but many people don’t

less_is_less 2025-01-24 01:51

That includes FSD, acceleration boost, the mobile charger, the tow hitch, any paint color, either wheel, and either interior color. All options are at no additional costs.

ngbn 2025-01-24 01:51

Look nice but I was expecting 400mi for long range. Honestly I’d just to change an old Y for new Y

[deleted] 2025-01-24 01:54

forget the new car, are you guys seeing $299/mo for 36 months for the old model? seems like a spanking deal for a Model Y

Emotional-Buddy-2219 2025-01-24 01:55

I bet that they’ll figure it out when they go to the website (which is also the only way to buy a new Tesla as you know); I can’t imagine anyone not thoroughly researching and looking over the website before purchasing a 40k+ car.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 01:57

Should have added a powered frunk.

matthew19 2025-01-24 01:57

in this case it may be almost free if it's the only chance you get to order with the $7,500 EV credit before it's gone.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 01:58

Degradation should be about 8 to 9% after 2 years.

brohammer5 2025-01-24 01:58

I can't see the stalk in any images, but the steering wheel doesn't seem to have turn signal buttons like the Model 3 wheel. [Steering Wheel](https://i.imgur.com/mt3XYVZ.png)

TESLAMIZE 2025-01-24 01:59

They doing the whole video game thing - hey the game is fully made but you can pay extra to get it early….

venk 2025-01-24 01:59

A forced option package on a car that depreciates as quickly as an EV seems like a terrible idea for the buyer. You’ll fine launch editions in the 30s in 18months.

matthew19 2025-01-24 01:59

seriously that sucks! It's probably the least ordered color, so they'll spit out a bunch of the most popular configs first. No 7 seat option either. but glad to see tow hitch.

mflboys 2025-01-24 02:01

My guess is a different testing cycle, so the numbers may not be comparable. Under the Compare Models menu, the old Y range is cited as "EPA est.", while the new one is cited as "est.".

GoSh4rks 2025-01-24 02:01

Where? I don't see any mention of a bumper camera or the number of cameras. And the current Y already has 8 cameras.

fixmefixmyhead 2025-01-24 02:01

Waiting for a performance model

GoSh4rks 2025-01-24 02:02

"encouraging early adopters"

texasproof 2025-01-24 02:04

Lmao if only. I bought five days before the huge price drop.

HollywoodSX 2025-01-24 02:04

You can just clear the check mark and that gas savings goes away.

abaybay99 2025-01-24 02:05

The EPA testing has gotten a little stricter.

goodvibezone 2025-01-24 02:05

"Mobile Charger is included with New Model Y Launch Series" Lol wtf.

financiallyanal 2025-01-24 02:06

And tires, obviously much less impactful than insurance though.

feurie 2025-01-24 02:06

The range is up vs AWD LR.

Capital_54 2025-01-24 02:06

If you go to the order page, and click the button under the model selection to compare models, then select the features new to the New Model Y, that’s where it mentions the new bumper camera

feurie 2025-01-24 02:06

It’s not about efficiency in the tire. It’s about comfort.

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 02:06

"Legacy" Model Y's with HW 4 had 7 cameras. The 8th is the bumper camera.

Nice_Visit4454 2025-01-24 02:07

If there's a bumper camera, but still 8 total, they likely removed on of the windshield cameras and are using the connector on the board for the bumper camera. I do recall there being rumors of a 2-camera system in the windshield, but it may be incorrect or out of date by now.

feurie 2025-01-24 02:07

Expensive first edition trims have been a thing forever.

sunny_tomato_farm 2025-01-24 02:07

I mean. I paid more than this for my model y in December 2023. lol.

notsooriginal 2025-01-24 02:08

The front windshield array has been dropped to 2 cameras for a while. On the 3 as well.

feurie 2025-01-24 02:08

Cool. Thats how buying new things works.

007meow 2025-01-24 02:08

It's a deceptive dark pattern to have it enabled by default.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 02:10

Not to your wallet.

bobloadmire 2025-01-24 02:10

No it's not, it's way too expensive

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 02:12

It's misleading because we all don't pay the same for electricity and gas. It's a very subjective number, so it's dumb Tesla has it on there. At the least it shouldn't be on by default.

007meow 2025-01-24 02:12

It's a way to charge early adopters more. It costs them nothing to include FSD, but it boosts their revenue by a significant margin.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 02:13

I have FSD on my highland 3. It's so fucking amazing right now. I rarely ever have to take over.

meepstone 2025-01-24 02:14

You know what's worse? Every other dealership to show a price for a car on their website and when you go in person it's $8,000+ more than their website says.

GoSh4rks 2025-01-24 02:15

venk 2025-01-24 02:15

Let me know when you want to sell yours

amitkania 2025-01-24 02:16

Only 1 subwoofer on the new MY

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 02:16

I am talking about exterior cameras

StartledPelican 2025-01-24 02:16

- 1x rear camera - 2x blind spot - 2x B pillar - 2x windshield  My count it 7 in the current HW4 Model Ys. My older 22 has 8 because there are 3 in the windshield. (All of this is from memory and may be incorrect)

McD-Szechuan 2025-01-24 02:17

I’ve had it since I cleared a safety score of 99 about 1 month after first release. It’s definitely better than ever. Up until I transferred FSD from my Model 3 to CT, I was pretty bent about what I had paid $7k for lol. However, with HW4 I feel compensated. And it *is* pretty amazing haha

MoDa65 2025-01-24 02:19

Many paid more than that in 2023 for base models. And they did it proudly

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 02:19

This is correct

Drownduck1 2025-01-24 02:19

This is a pretty sweet deal IMO. If tesla add 0% later down the road then it would be instant buy with zero regret

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 02:20

HW4 always had an extra camera connector. I presume its the same one being used for the bumper cam on CT.

No-Image-7539 2025-01-24 02:20

Very ugly and expensive

TigglyWiggly95 2025-01-24 02:21

60k is an earlier adopter tax. I wonder what it will be in December.

007meow 2025-01-24 02:22

One bad thing doesn't excuse another.

LiuPingVsJungSoo 2025-01-24 02:23

No blue either. Hopefully after the launch edition is done they add more colors.

lmauuur 2025-01-24 02:24

Gonna wait for year end deals! I just want the rear long range option.

AddressSpiritual9574 2025-01-24 02:24

I’m in MA too and got approved for that Uber credit so I’ll be waiting

Nice_Visit4454 2025-01-24 02:24

Thanks! This makes a lot of sense now.

dhanson865 2025-01-24 02:30

I'm slightly disappointed Blue isn't an available color choice on this trim. The only choices are * Stealth Gray * Pearl White Multi-Coat * Ultra Red * Quicksilver Quicksilver and Ultra Red will be popular. Launch Series comes with Full Self-Driving (Supervised) plus Acceleration Boost. Exclusive Launch Series badging on the rear liftgate, puddle light, doorsill plate and more. So it's an expensive trim for the early adopters, Just like the foundation cybertruck it forces all the expensive options.

GoSh4rks 2025-01-24 02:31

Forgive me for not putting full confidence in Tesla's claim of 8 cameras. Not your claim.

CTrandomdude 2025-01-24 02:31

Huge disappointment that they have not increased the range in any meaningful way. Was hoping for at least 350 miles. No way I would upgrade to that. I do like the other improvements but if you are going to update a model and try to attract new EV buyers they seriously missed the mark.

PeterLegend626 2025-01-24 02:31

Tesla knows the hungry buyers will pay a premium at launch.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 02:32

A 400 mile range would be insane. Not sure why some YouTubers were expecting a nearly 30% increase in range because a bigger battery would be much more expensive.

ur2fat4u 2025-01-24 02:33

I wouldn't say it's 100% profit margin when you factor in the R&D but I can agree that they profit margin is growing and this is a great way for them to accelerate that.

ParaIIax_ 2025-01-24 02:34

I was clarifying that Tesla specified 8 exterior cameras on the new Model Y compared to 7 exterior cameras on the previous generation with HW4. Those are Tesla's claims.

geckolord8 2025-01-24 02:35

I have to say 320 miles for range is severely disappointing. I was expecting it to be closer to 400. I am very glad that I didn't wait for it to release before buying one.

SexyCheeseburger0911 2025-01-24 02:37

Couple questions: What's the miles/charge, and can Elon explain with his own words his behavior at the inauguration instead of others doing it for him?

jadequarter 2025-01-24 02:44

the rear headlights ugly sorry https://i.imgur.com/NuhTWtq.jpeg

Manyconnections 2025-01-24 02:45

Nice. Ill wait for the poverty edition. The launch one has more than I need.

AddressSpiritual9574 2025-01-24 02:46

Supercharging is cheaper than home electricity where I’m at in Boston. $0.22/kWh supercharging off-peak vs $0.27/kWh home costs with delivery fees on top.

trustme_imadoct0r 2025-01-24 02:48

Can’t speak to current comparison but the insurance premium was in the same ballpark back in 2019 when we bought our first tesla, if you are comparing a loaded Camry to a dual motor model 3. Today, we’re paying about 80% more than that for our 3 year old model Y.

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2025-01-24 02:52

I have a 2025 M3 LR AWD and I pay $78/mo for full coverage. I’m 55 though.

ngbn 2025-01-24 02:53

I agree with you, just thought it would be more of a change like the refreshed M3.

Resolution_Powerful 2025-01-24 02:54

I think the price is good with the tax credit and fsd. The price is pretty fair.

dhp1161 2025-01-24 02:55

55k lol

0Papi420 2025-01-24 02:57

I don’t want the full FSD 😭 No Launch edition for me then

IWaveAtTeslas 2025-01-24 02:57

[deleted] 2025-01-24 02:58

I do agree with you, it gets confusing, but it does beat traditional shady car dealerships with their carbon copy paper and unnecessary paperwork that’ll confuse you. And their snake like finance guys.

Burrito2525 2025-01-24 02:58

Because it’s over $80k to drive the oldest most forgotten about model. Shoulda refreshed the X but the Y is the money maker

ronsta 2025-01-24 02:59

Man it’s ugly. Just gotta put it out there.

TheMartian2k14 2025-01-24 03:02

What about 5?

Exciting_Kangaroo800 2025-01-24 03:02

Do the 20” helix wheels come with all weather tires?

The_Airwolf_Theme 2025-01-24 03:02

Whatever the mileage limit is I would go over it

MagreviZoldnar 2025-01-24 03:06

That’s been the price for a while now for the older models since they were trying to clear the inventory before the launch.

texasproof 2025-01-24 03:06

Yeah I think that was the peak. My base was $62,999 plus all the extras plus FSD. So I was like $78k before tax and I had to wait almost 8 months for the car. I did get the tax credit though so there’s at least that. Follow me for more wealth building tips.

imacleopard 2025-01-24 03:08

Should be off by default

Generalmilk 2025-01-24 03:10

If you order at peak and waited 8mo to get the car, the price should have dropped at the time you got the car. Something doesn’t add up.

Twofu_ 2025-01-24 03:11

If i wasn't still paying my 2022 Y, I'd be all over this..

Solvang84 2025-01-24 03:11

And acceleration boost ($2K value). It’s a great deal if you want most/all of that.

PrudeHawkeye 2025-01-24 03:11

Stalks confirmed. No steering wheel buttons.

Mysterious_Sea1489 2025-01-24 03:12

It’s in a photo Sawyer Merrit posted on X.

Scoobydiesel87 2025-01-24 03:13

I wonder how long til the RWD model is shipping. But March is earlier than I was kinda thinking for the launch edition so that’s a plus.

I think a lot of people compare a cheaper car they had before with their newest Tesla to cover. It’s still a 50-65k car which is not cheap to insure.

LiuPingVsJungSoo 2025-01-24 03:16

It’s a way to still sell the older model while they ramp up production. These don’t ship until March, so they don’t want zero delivered Model Ys for almost the whole first quarter.

ParksNet30 2025-01-24 03:17

You could wait for the RWD with more range

Zealousideal_Aside96 2025-01-24 03:18

You can see the stalk peeking out in one of the photos their Instagram posted https://i.imgur.com/jp2s6vo.jpeg

shellimedz 2025-01-24 03:21

I wanted more range, my 330 is down to 250 and I drive 200 Hwy miles a day. Now that it's cold I'm supercharging daily. Might as well buy gas at this point. Super disappointed.

I just got my model 3 in December. First Tesla. I drive maybe 5% of the time now hahha. FSD ftw.

texasproof 2025-01-24 03:25

I don’t know if it was at the absolute peak when I ordered, but when I received the car on 1/7/23, the price was still certainly near the peak. The price drop hit on 1/12/23. Just checked and it was actually 7mo not 8. [Order agreement here](https://i.imgur.com/wMMSKS8.jpeg) (note that FSD is not listed as part of the order agreement but it was at $10k when I picked the car up so that’s what I paid. $78,440 in total).

I really liked the glacial blue that china has I was really disappointed about that. Ordered a red one instead coming from a 2018 blue model 3.

Dr_Procrastinator 2025-01-24 03:42

The website explicitly says “8 exterior cameras (includes a new front-facing camera)” for those unaware.

moldy912 2025-01-24 03:43

My newer more expensive BMW costs less than my model 3 to insure. Same drivers and I work from home and the model 3 is my primary.

Plopdopdoop 2025-01-24 03:45

What year? That’s seems like quite a big range loss.

tsuehpsyde 2025-01-24 03:50

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 03:51

After 24 months the degradation tapers off and loses less over time. Somewhere between 12-14% depending on mileage.

kylansb 2025-01-24 03:52

i'm confused, cause i got it on dec 29 22 for 64k after tax, how did yours cost more?

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-01-24 03:52

No. Insurance for teslas is significantly higher than equivalent class vehicles.

E90alex 2025-01-24 03:59

Our 2022 Model 3 LR is more expensive to insure than our 2024 F150 Lightning with $80k MSRP.

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:01

So don't accelerate so quickly. There's nothing different about physics of tire wear of an ICE vehicle and an EV. EDIT: I forgot the Reddit masses don't understand physics. My bad.

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:02

So your insurance company knows your Tesla is your primary vehicle? Of course it will be more expensive than if it was a "pleasure use" vehicle.

FlyingDumplingTrader 2025-01-24 04:03

210 a month

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 04:04

It's crazy how good it is with just cameras. A year ago, I would've been my life savings against just cameras only being viable.

SubprimeOptimus 2025-01-24 04:04

DOA

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 04:05

hooplahblehblah 2025-01-24 04:05

Weight plays a factor. Not specifically EV vs ICE, but having more weight will increase rolling resistance and wear your tires faster.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 04:06

Hell yeah.

AddressSpiritual9574 2025-01-24 04:06

We don’t have off peak. It’s a flat rate all day.

Pap-aboner 2025-01-24 04:06

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 04:06

Your provider doesn't have plans that have off peak and peak pricing? Strange.

nastasimp 2025-01-24 04:07

$60k?! Wtf?

Guygenist 2025-01-24 04:07

No, insurance for Teslas are just higher period.

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-01-24 04:07

Of course they do. You have to report mileage.

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:08

Don't make blanket statements like that. They rarely are as accurate as you would like to believe. Different markets, different insurance companies, and different drivers will all play a big difference there. I pay $100/month for my Performance Model 3. A BMW M3 would not cost significantly less than that. Nor would any other equivalent class vehicle.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 04:08

I originally paid for enhanced AP on my 2018 3. Tesla sent me a deal that allowed me to upgrade to FSD for another 1k, and then transfer it to a new 3. So that's why I "bought" it.

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-01-24 04:08

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:14

krispykittydvp 2025-01-24 04:14

Iam the perfect person to answer. I have a lexus 2025 nx350H and 2021 Model 3 Longe range. Tesla is $265 and Lexus is $220. So a new Lexus is cheaper to insure than an old M3

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:16

Thanks for the revelation that newly purchased vehicles depreciate. Do you post on Rolls Royce subreddits about their terrible resale values?

wighty 2025-01-24 04:18

Model Y ~4100-4400 lbs. Volvo XC40 3300-3821 lbs. Audi Q3 ~3900 lbs. BMW X3 ~4100-4200 lbs. In general the weight differences are probably not enough to cause drastically different tire wear. Far more likely when people report burning through tires is lead feet. (we have a GV60 that is ~4800 lbs and we are wearing down our Michelin cross climate 2 tires under their rated 60k mile warranty, more than half their tread life left at 38k miles on them)

modeless 2025-01-24 04:19

Oh I thought that was confirmed? It's not there? Edit: he's right

wighty 2025-01-24 04:19

> It’s still a 50-65k car which is not cheap to insure. Eh, both of our $55-60k cars are under $500 a year to insure. I see a lot higher rates for Teslas.

Nope, they’ve been saying for a while now that they’re planning on doing it in the future.

ken830 2025-01-24 04:30

Tesla vehicles really aren't much (if any) heavier than comparable ICE/hybrid vehicles, but they certainly include much more passenger/cargo space and performance.

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:31

The weight difference isn't that drastic.

rontombot 2025-01-24 04:34

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 04:35

I mean, why not tell people that something is included? It's useful information for a buyer.

mikemacman 2025-01-24 04:38

I agree. But Tesla doesn’t point this out to people. People buy EVs expecting them to be cheap to charge.

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-01-24 04:39

travielee 2025-01-24 05:41

Tookmyprawns 2025-01-24 06:45

I am gonna wait for the initial craze to die down before ordering the new Y. It'll come back down in price just like the cyber truck.

$265 a month?! I pay $1000 a year

aaayyyuuussshhh 2025-01-24 07:56

it's not an expensive trim at all. Adding all those options can be up to 4K more on the OLD model Y currently. granted the older model Y have discounts but I actually don't think it's unreasonable at all. Still a lot less than a X3 m50i (which now feels WAY cheaper inside than even a Tesla). Eventually the normal base models will be available for under 50K

ShaDeakz 2025-01-24 07:56

In Germany it's 70k fully stacked ⚰️

Godvater 2025-01-24 08:06

IAmAnAnonymousCoward 2025-01-24 08:30

crapoo16 2025-01-24 08:32

At this rate super charging is cheaper than home charging in the bay area. I think 6 price hikes approved in a year or something. Ridiculous.

RealKillering 2025-01-24 08:38

That just depends on how you drive. I have over 20.000 km on the summer tires and from the wear you can see that they will be fine for 60.000 km.

BloodyJeff 2025-01-24 08:46

I did the same thing, total was 80k

MoDa65 2025-01-24 09:03

Its the same car as always. In the ICE industry, this is basically just a refresh (updated front/rear and some new amenities) but the core is the same (frame, suspension--with maybe some tweaks, etc) Tesla following the Apple receipe, call it a new version but with little things

Martbern 2025-01-24 09:04

How much more? Well, my Porsche is 1150 a year, while my Model Y was 1800.

MoDa65 2025-01-24 09:06

FSD has been very good lately. It's come to the point where its actually enticing to purchase. Well for people who drive a lot and do a lot of highway driving. They basically forced launch owners to get it. They shouldve maybe priced it cheaper so when someone disects the forced features FSD comes out to maybe $6K instead of the same $8K.

dankbeerdude 2025-01-24 09:09

Old inventory is gonna get super cheap

dankbeerdude 2025-01-24 09:09

Just wait for non-Launch edition, soon come

Dave_Marsh 2025-01-24 09:29

Actual price for the US Launch version of the new Model Y is $61,630 cash. An expiring $7,500 credit and calculated gas savings should not be included in the price comparison. Also, the Launch series has a black interior. I’ll wait for the Glacier Blue exterior with white interior, with an FSD transfer from my current Tesla before upgrading, so it may be awhile for me.

BufloSolja 2025-01-24 09:29

I don't have that here in PA either. Not sure if it is state or regional or provider based. Edit: So I was curious after this and checked, apparently my utility may offer it. But need to check into the details.

dankbeerdude 2025-01-24 09:31

dankbeerdude 2025-01-24 09:34

Yeah I would just wait, but when you think non-Launch comes out

Big-Philosophy9319 2025-01-24 09:53

do you have any hint on when will the normal base new model Y be available in USA?

DragonfruitNeat8979 2025-01-24 10:11

It will probably still sell well, but I agree that it's not great that Tesla battery capacity has stagnated since 2018. The new Model Y is actually the size of an Audi Q6 e-tron and you can get that with a 100 kWh (94.9 kWh usable) battery that charges 10-80% in 22 minutes. Then again, the Model Y will probably still sell much better, as the Audi is +25% more expensive even after discounts than the launch version of the new Model Y. I still think that Tesla should at least offer something like a Max Range version with a larger battery.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 12:26

Are you saying gasoline cars don’t pay for insurance? Cause I just got my new policy on my Model Y and it’s 128 a month with full coverage. You should be shopping for insurance every time your policy is up. And gas saving do add up. So far this year I’ve already saved 870 dollars over gasoline according to my App. And never mind oil changes. And new tires are no more expensive than ICE cars nowadays and if you aren’t in launch mode at every light you won’t wear them down so quickly. And these are all facts as of today on my 2021 Model Y with 83k miles on it and almost no battery degradation. There are a lot of lies out there.

ugahairydawgs 2025-01-24 14:08

TheMuffStufff 2025-01-24 14:16

Nobody buys a Tesla to leave it in chill mode

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 14:24

Actually, couldn't be more accurate. Physics are physics. If you're wanting to change the input data, then sure, you'll get a different results. Instant torque? Addressed by my statement of "don't accelerate so quickly", which I also assumed anyone reading would be able to infer to also mean not have such a high jerk, but maybe that's beyond the scope of the average Reddit user. But hey, in case you didn't know, jerk is the derivative of acceleration, which means it's the rate of change of acceleration. Simplistically, not only don't push so far down on the accelerator, also don't push down on the accelerator so quickly. Regen braking? Tires don't car why they are decelerating. If you're rotating tires properly like you should, the wear is averaged out amongst all the tires. A tire undergoing regen braking experiences identical wear as a tire undergoing disc brake braking, assuming the deceleration rate is the same. And if you want to say a RWD regen vehicle is going to have a bit higher rear tire wear because of the regen - DUH! But like I just stated, rotating tires regularly will average out the wear and it will be no different than a non-EV. Aggressive camber? I think you should investigate what the factory camber settings are for a Model Y and then compare to any other modern SUV/crossover/whatever. You're going to be in for an eye-opener when you discover that they're all pretty much the same. The physics of tire wear is the same (more force = more wear). Drive an ICE and hammer on the throttle the same way some people do with their EVs and you'll see darn near identical tire wear. Let me tell you about the lifespan I get on my Porsche's rear tires...

Ayn_Diarrhea_Rand 2025-01-24 14:26

I do. It’s too zippy without chill mode. And you’re still faster than 95% of everything else on the road.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 14:37

How often do you shop your insurance? I get a quote every 6 months and switch at least once every two years. It doesn’t hurt anything to shop insurance and you can save money if budget is tight and you don’t mind doing a little legwork.

Shindiglehleh 2025-01-24 14:49

Now can I get a Model 3 Highland front bumper camera retrofit?

Fidget808 2025-01-24 14:50

Depends on your insurance. I went from a Grand Cherokee to a M3 and my insurance went up $7 a month. That’s negligible compared to the gas savings and the fact my car payment is lower.

Insurance varies wildly by state. In states like Florida, insurance is very expensive because there’s a good chance someone hitting you (and it being anything more than a fender bender) won’t have insurance to cover the repairs to your Tesla, because the property damage liability minimum is $10k, and a good chunk of people don’t have insurance at all. But it also depends on the profile of these drivers. Even with a spotless record, including no citations, I’m paying $3k a year with $1k deductibles (Geico) and used to be paying $4k a year (USAA). This is because I have an expensive, high horsepower car and am 23/male, a high risk cohort (statistically. I drive safe. )

victorantos2 2025-01-24 15:00

I should correct myself, I am in Switzerland paying 1000 CHF which is about 1100 USD

Arucious 2025-01-24 15:10

People are getting like 20 to 30,000 out of their tires which is no different than tires on a performance ICE car Anyone that has had a car with Michelin pilot sports for example knows that they are not lasting a lot longer than 30k

bongo1210 2025-01-24 15:14

Yeah that’s bull lol. I have a 2021 Tesla Model S and I’m paying $95 a month with Esurance. It hasn’t been any more expensive than any of my other cars..

Arucious 2025-01-24 15:24

You guys are this far into your adult life and still arguing about insurance rates when everyone under the sun knows that it has entirely to do with where you live and not just your driving record..

Yiggah 2025-01-24 15:24

I do, my Tesla is the daily beater. No one is impressed with a Tesla. That’s like showing off your new iPhone. Everyone has one lol.

So now having a fast off the line speed is just to impress? So you drive in chill mode because you don’t want to “impress” anyone. What??

kbbqbukkake 2025-01-24 15:27

Dude my dad did that. Boggles my mind. Got him to take them performance over the long range and he just keeps it in chill mode.

pauerplay 2025-01-24 15:27

I got 50k and counting on a set of Michelins and I’m not easy on it ever. Proper rotations help (and a lot of spirited highway driving)

ShekMonstar 2025-01-24 15:27

Add bidirectional charging!

Yiggah 2025-01-24 15:28

I leave it in chill mode because I don’t care to punch it off the line every where I go. Chill mode is plenty of fast to get off the line and merge. My point was most people that I know own Teslas don’t actually leave it in normal mode.

[deleted] 2025-01-24 15:29

I bought mine 2 days before the price drop. I feel your pain. Thought I set a record for most ever paid for a MYLR. Maybe you and me tied? My wife bought a MYLR in October 2024. She paid a little over half what I did for the same car.

mundaneDetail 2025-01-24 15:35

Yeah, no. Everybody is in a different gas situation. Just because you spend a lot on gas doesn’t mean it applies to everybody.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 15:37

Yeah you're probably at or near end of battery warranty. Best to read the "Battery Limited Warranty" for your car if you're not familiar.

mundaneDetail 2025-01-24 15:41

FSD quality is more a function on the type of roads you drive on. Highways and suburbia vs city core/mountain roads. Also you have to compare it to the base Autopilot, which performs nearly as well on highways. So really, if you’re doing a lot of suburban driving on non highways then FSD will be helpful. If you’re mostly on highways, you’re paying $8k for lane changes.

BikebutnotBeast 2025-01-24 15:44

I still want to see the solution for the 6-seater going out to China. I keep imagining two rows of bench seats but would love to be wrong.

pioneer76 2025-01-24 15:55

The US has basically the highest insurance rates for all types. Vehicles, house and medical. At this point I'm convinced it's all a price fixing scam.

pioneer76 2025-01-24 15:57

What carrier? Seems odd to have $0 deductibles.

pioneer76 2025-01-24 15:57

What's the value on the Porsche? I feel like that would make a difference.

Martbern 2025-01-24 15:59

Twice the price of the Tesla. It's not a clapped out 987. It's just funny how my Porsche is so much more expensive than a Tesla

Plopdopdoop 2025-01-24 15:59

Ok I change my comment - that’s not much of a range loss!

TheMuffStufff 2025-01-24 16:04

And most people I know leave theirs in normal mode? I would imagine 90% of Tesla owners leave it in normal mode. I think you’re definitely in the minority on this one.

Yiggah 2025-01-24 16:06

I don’t know about other people but friends and families around me so a source of about 11 Tesla owners. Everyone has it on chill mode to reduce nausea and to save on tire tread. But the whole point of this convo was you stating literally no one uses chill mode and that’s just false. :))

pioneer76 2025-01-24 16:06

I feel like it would be cool to have Tesla insurance if it's any cheaper. Whether right or wrong, I kind of trust Tesla more than a typical insurance company.

shigydigy 2025-01-24 16:07

Has there been anything definitive suggesting the EV credit will be gone anytime soon?

Martbern 2025-01-24 16:07

We don't have Tesla insurance in Norway, but I don't think that's any cheaper

DbG925 2025-01-24 16:08

Spotless driving record, but 2 teenaged kids at the same address :)

whitemiketyson 2025-01-24 16:09

pioneer76 2025-01-24 16:15

How does a lease buyout work at the end of that time. Does it end up being a good deal compared to just buying new?

rainer_d 2025-01-24 16:31

I pay 591 in Switzerland (Model 3). Although with very few km… Model Y is very expensive to insure and I fully expect the new model to be no different. 3k per year is insane.

dellfanboy 2025-01-24 16:35

Seriously. I use FSD daily. It’s so odd people have a problem with it.

frodogrotto 2025-01-24 16:41

I’d be very surprised if they didn’t add the black and Glacier Blue at some point. My best guess is that they’ll do that when the car is no longer Launch Series. But only time will tell. Black and the glacier blue were my two favorite colors, so I won’t be getting the new Model Y either until at least one of those becomes available

Toastybunzz 2025-01-24 16:49

State Farm. I'm on my second windshield and need to file a claim for the third, IMO it's pretty necessary. Plus from experience with my cars in the past, if I had a larger deductible I would put off getting things repaired. If someone hits my car in the parking lot I just wanna call them and have them take care of it and not have to plunk down $500 to $1,000 along with it.

goodgreenganja 2025-01-24 16:53

Agreed. Always hated that.

AmbitiousFunction911 2025-01-24 16:53

definitely not true. performance has far less to do with it than the weight of the vehicle. and very few ICE cars have the instant torque of any Tesla. Additionally, the Model X burns through rear tires far faster than any car I've seen due to the camber issue of the suspension (and not being able to rotate the tires due to the staggered configuration)

Dr_Pippin 2025-01-24 17:08

> While trivially true, real world application matters. The characteristics of EVs change the input conditions enough that the tires (on average) will still wear faster compared to ICE's. Not if you drive more sedately. EVs just make accessing the available performance much easier with less aural feedback, so drivers don't limit themselves as much. But an ICE vehicle and an EV jerking and accelerating at the same rate will have the same tire wear. So yes, if you simply drive an EV with less acceleration you'll get equivalent tire wear. Plenty of tire wear posts where some people say they get 40,000 out of their OEM tires while others are replacing theirs before 20K. > You’re right that smooth driving can mitigate wear but EVs still inherently deliver power differently... the instantenous delivery of torque (even under moderate acceleration) results in more frequent micro-slips at the contact patch, increasing wear over time. The power delivery in ICE's is smoother due to transmission gearing and ramp-up of torque. Saying “just drive smoother” doesn’t change the fact that the drivetrain behaviour itself contributes to greater wear in EVs. And Tesla also has a chill mode for those drivers that cannot understand how to limit the jerk by simply not pushing down as fast on the throttle. If the vehicles are being driven differently, it's not an apt comparison. > “Tires don’t care why they’re decelerating” is over simplified. The key difference is that regen braking concentrates more of the deceleration load on specific wheels (the rear in Model Y) rather than distributing it across all four wheels like traditional braking systems do. This changes the wear pattern compared to an ICE vehicle, where the front tires bear most of the braking force. Sure, rotating tires helps even things out, but it doesn’t eliminate the fact that the initial wear pattern is different in a way that isn’t present in ICE vehicles. The total wear from braking is identical. It doesn't matter if you want to talk about a small subset of Model Ys that are RWD and state that they are going to have more rear wear due to rear braking, the total wear across all tires is identical from braking. And if you rotate tires as you're supposed to, that is a moot point. Oh, ignore vehicle maintenance and then be surprised when something bad happens? I suppose that's one way of approaching things. Should we talk about a high hp ICE destroying its rod bearings faster (if you don't change the oil)? > For the LR front camber is -0.8° to -1.3° (RAV4, BMW X3 -0.5° to 1.0°), rear camber is 1.3° to -2.2° (-0.5° to -1.5°). The Performance is even more aggressive. Tesla's aggressive factory camber is actually a well documented issue, you can see this in real-world reports of premature inside-edge tire wear on Model 3 and Y. From the Model Y service manual, the long range's unladen front camber is +0.15 to -0.75. No idea how you've come up with -0.8 to -1.3. The performance is -0.19 to -1.09. A RAV4 absolutely does not have an acceptable 1 degree of positive front camber, and especially a BMW X3 wouldn't either. Where are you coming up with these numbers? A small amount of negative camber gives a much better driving feel, and almost all vehicles have that from the factory. And of course a performance variant is going to have a more aggressive camber setting - want to compare to an X3M Competition? > Again, while true, you're over simplifying things. The real world conditions under which those physics apply are different in ways that make EVs wear tires faster. Saying “just drive like an ICE car” ignores the actual mechanical and structural differences between EVs and ICE vehicles that make an apples-to-apples comparison impossible. Put on chill mode, accelerate more smoothly, and you'll have just fine tire wear. It's really not challenging. The issue is drivers are so unaware of their own driving to have any idea what they're doing.

It’s the exact same car , but a little prettier. No new range or charging benefits. If I had to choose between a heavily depreciated 23-24 Y or this I choose the depreciated guy all the time.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-24 21:02

I've used FSD in downtown before. It works pretty great still. And it's only going to get better and better. Whether you want to do month to month or pay the 8k up front is a matter of how long you plan on owning the car. Then there's also the fact Tesla does have events where they let you transfer FSD to a new car, which is what happened with me.

bebopblues 2025-01-24 21:24

I got to 50K on the original stock tires on my M3, and I rotated them just twice.

MooselookManiac 2025-01-24 21:39

Doesn't make sense to turn off the tax credit savings. That's a legit savings for most people who have an income that would support buying a new Tesla.

MooselookManiac 2025-01-24 21:40

Welcome to New England energy prices. It's even worse in Maine. Solar panels are getting very popular.

rontombot 2025-01-24 21:42

Probably not, a suburb of KCMO

IXPhantomXI 2025-01-24 21:47

You’d be surprised. I had people ranging from high net worth to middle class asking me to turn it off. The only time I kept it on was when a business owner was purchasing a Model X because they could leverage the weight of the vehicle and get more write offs that way.

Economy-Emergency732 2025-01-24 21:49

I personally have experienced the price gouging performed by "Tesla certified" shops which ultimately leads to higher premiums for all of us.

mom_4_bigdog 2025-01-24 23:07

I wouldn't say it costs them nothing. That software has to run on servers and there are operating cost and support costs as well as R&D. It's like any other software. You wouldn't say Salesforce should be free because it costs them nothing. And if you want to add another service to your software, you have to pay.

This brand is now tainted....no thanx

mundaneDetail 2025-01-25 06:37

Yeah, I saw your other comments, it sounds like you got a great deal and I’d jump on that. But after trying FSD for a couple months and babysitting the lane changes in rush hour traffic, it would be crazy to pay 99/mo for it when the car already drives itself for the highway with normal autopilot.

_Smashbrother_ 2025-01-25 07:08

I guess if you're mostly driving highway than FSD might not be worth it.

MrNerd82 2025-01-25 08:54

I have 40k on a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2's on my Bolt EUV, solid tire for sure and still going strong. The "new" model Y has me interested in ditching this Bolt (purchased 2022) but I'm definitely going to let the hype (and price) die down for a year or so. Want more range and a reliable charging network :)

Uatatoka 2025-01-25 15:10

I have no problem beating most cars off the line even in chill mode. It's not crippling the power. My family gets nauseous in normal mode so I switched to chill mode and never really think about going back. More efficient, smoother / less jerky acceleration, and less wear and tear on tires.

TheMuffStufff 2025-01-25 15:32

To each their own. I mean if your family is getting nauseous than I get it.
