For clarification: it seems to have launched in Asia and Australia.
Is that a front bumper camera I see!? https://preview.redd.it/sqfuk6jol2ce1.png?width=843&format=png&auto=webp&s=746004d8ababef8d7a6cafcd87ecdac208c68238
Old Model Y Long Range (Canada) - 5.0 Seconds New Model Y Long Range (China) - 4.3 Seconds Is this due to a change in design, or the battery choice in China, or do Model Y's in China have the acceleration boost by default lol?
Thanks, I was toggling between Canada and the US and couldn't see the difference Anyone Australian know if the price changed? I suspect it's the same but the car is cooler now
Yes
I wish you didn’t link to the HK site then wait 15 minutes to clarify. Such weird behavior.
The Model 3 press pics had a front camera too that was eventually fixed because the vehicle doesn’t actually have one. We’ll see what happens here…
I see stalks!!!
Was it in the car configurator? Because that's where I'm seeing it now
In the launch series notes it says they're giving AWD boost by default \>All-Wheel Drive comes with Acceleration Boost.
Seriously I just zoomed in. I really don't want to speculate again but it looks like a shiny lense thing in the center of the bumper area to me! [https://imgur.com/WHdH3JT](https://imgur.com/WHdH3JT)
Should I wait for the next version?!
Thank you! That's the answer I was looking for!
Price in NZ is roughly $5k NZD higher
4.3 second in Chinese is 5.0 standard /s
533 km WLTP range to 551 WLPT range for LR AWD, about a 3% improvement.
haha! Another commenter pointed out it gets the acceleration boost by default! What is different is the range estimates vs EPA though!
>Limited release Interesting, what makes it a "limited release"?
Could be mandatory in that market, so wouldn't get your hopes up for US.
You didn't think that acceleration boost was free did you? /s
https://preview.redd.it/sf1jj589m2ce1.jpeg?width=994&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b80f5eb045763d6a8b44829a940765e6b6db28b0 Tesla website confirms a front-view camera
The light bars really look cheap...
I see them in the NZ configuration too, and highland is stalkless here
Isn't that referring to the camera that's behind the windscreen?
\> Exclusive Launch Series badging on the rear liftgate, puddle light, doorsill plate and more. All-Wheel Drive comes with Acceleration Boost.
I only see them in the RHD pictures. China pictures are missing stalks
When is the performance coming?
same price difference for RWD and no boost though 😅
Doesn’t look new
The “launch edition” is limited. Per Tesla: “Exclusive Launch Series badging on the rear liftgate, puddle light, doorsill plate and more. All-wheel drive comes with Acceleration Boost.“
That’s my thought
Everywhere but the US. Why does Elon hate America?
I think so. If you check the Australian launch page, it's just called "Front-Facing Cameras". https://www.tesla.com/en_au/modely
Probably at a later date like Highland. Why? Who knows. Was 8 months between Highland's announcement and the M3P.
I'm not sure about the light bar, but I love the glacier blue color.
Interesting the indicator stalk is definitely there, not sure if the gear select is though. Guessing Tesla didn't want to risk sales for their best seller over the stalks!
[deleted]
"Redesigned body castings reduce parts from 70 to 1 for fewer gaps. All to create a whisper-quiet ride." Single piece Giga Press-cast body?
I noticed that too. I thought they were removing them in future models.
Looks like it’s indicator stalk only. Which I’m perfectly fine with tbh.
[deleted]
Maybe they only include a stalk for the turn signal so you’d only see it on the left side of the steering wheel.
https://preview.redd.it/h1wrpohjp2ce1.jpeg?width=1070&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3aa2320f8584b4845b4517c2993d519eb0b827e

How long was it between the M3 refresh launching and it coming to the US?
New Glacier Blue color! https://preview.redd.it/wdnloa9zp2ce1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=730801548eff6d9d32050988eedc7d7c26e2871e
346 miles range …. Meh… I thought it would be more.
There’s a section on the Tesla China website describing it, so I don’t think it’ll be removed this time.
So technically same speed as old MYLR with boost lol
Right?! Nothing impressive
https://preview.redd.it/92ii1zw3q2ce1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d74fe929db5cffa647b2801ade9ec138ee6bfd8
lol it’s not everywhere but the US. And the Model 3 had a delay too.
I kind of like the look. Having just got a bill for 4K for having a single headlight out on a 21 Y, can only wonder what the price of that thing will be. The matrix are $1600 a piece.
No. Maybe two piece
[deleted]
I understand why people want a camera there but without a way of automatically cleaning it will be useless most of the time.
Like 6 months
about 4 months
Huh? The LR is advertised at 719km that’s 450 miles
I wonder if anyone kept track to what happened to used model 3 prices when they started delivering. I'll actually be looking at a used model y this year, so maybe this will bring prices down
It's interesting that this photo doesn't have the logo on the hood.
Looks like a ugly Polestar 4. Maybe it’ll look better in person.
Where is my beloved SQUIRCLE wheel... 😭😭 😭
Underwhelming & a "refresh" at best.
What?? 4k to replace a headlight?!
Does anyone know if i buy Enhanced Autopilot now can i upgrade to FSD later? or are they different computers / not just software? Looking at the Australian site, deliveries are in May! What does every think about AWD and Rear WD? https://preview.redd.it/0492d85tq2ce1.jpeg?width=2802&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eefb6cc4f2381bc1773d2eabe5c8a6d419c09e82
The website literally says 551 km for the LR … which is 346 miles
It looks like the light bar from the Chevy Equinox EV.
The Chinese one is saying 719km which is 450 miles but the other are 550km??? wtf???
I’d wager it has 100% has the bumper camera due to the Tesla wordering and official product page pictures
[deleted]
2018 Model 3 owner here. I'm not buying anything Tesla anymore unless Elon is gone.
I hope there’s at least a squircle/stalkless option. 2 of my 4 EVs are stalkless, and I definitely prefer it.
They claim they can only upgrade to matrix headlights which are 1600 a piece, plus labor, etc. total bill is $4997. My steering wheel pleather has completely disintegrated so $900 for that too. Car has 76k, 02/21 build. Yeah I’m pretty f’ing upset about it. I’m trying to figure out if I buy a used one if the software will update it. I’m assuming the ecu is dead so I can’t swap it on a new light.
I mean, the counter to that is the top of the page where there's no camera, compared to the China edition with the camera. So far it's a bit of a crapshoot as to whether or not it has one. Edit: Also the Tesla promotion video for China doesn't have a front camera?? Weird. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ytljnDJKCWs
the suspension in the 21 Y is painful. Have you driven a newer version? Night and day difference.
[deleted]
Hilarious this entire sub got fooled by the Highland 3 with an aftermarket wheel lmao.
Is cancel culture still not dead in the US?
Not having a front camera is crazy
The stalks are still there? The photo of the wheel doesn’t have the blinker buttons!
Cool story
[deleted]
No I haven’t. You’re right the suspension is really bad. I’m on 20’s too… thought about doing the coilovers, also had to have the control arms replaced at 52k… My wife hates the car and wants me to dump it, but I don’t really want to buy a new car, I like to drive them into the ground. It just usually takes a lot longer for these kind of costs.
Different range estimate scale
You can get both Enhanced and FSD $5000 AUD difference
That’s the Chinese rating which is always crazy high compared to everywhere else
https://preview.redd.it/nt9w6vgjt2ce1.png?width=758&format=png&auto=webp&s=158238b89a605ad1671f5bdf5fcfee1eb6bfad73
Amazing 😍 it was lookings so good!
Approx $7k more expensive in Aus for the base model 😭😭😭
I don't see why they would point it out or refer to it as a camera in the singular if it was referring to the cams behind the windshield, which are always there. This plus the new pictures confirms there is actually a camera at the nose of the car now.
CLTC is extremely liberal and inaccurate for real world driving. WLTP is more accurate
I had a 03' Lincoln Navigator I drove into the ground, engine blew up at 220k so I understand where you're coming from of taking care of a car forever until it dies. My family owns a 21', 22' and 23' MYLR and the 22 and 23 are acceptable suspension but the 21 is physically painful. They 24 introduced comfort suspension which is even better. You're also missing the lithium accessory battery that never has to be replaced. And Ryzen CPU. And HEPA filter for biohazard mode (works great driving through a smoke/dust filled road. Whenever you do upgrade there will be multiple improvements you will notice.
China uses a different way of testing. The rest of the world uses EPA or wltp where as China uses CLTC that has been proven unreliable.
I don't think anybody suggested it would be anything but that. This was not meant to be a ground up new vehicle.
For sure. I feel the ryzen thing. We don’t use the infotainment at all really. Tried the other day and it took most of the 15 min charge to get a show started. Looking at this new one, but the no stalks kind of annoys me.
[deleted]
I don’t think FSD will be released anyway fully except for America (properly) too many loopholes to go through in Australia
And no black (in Australia).
can someone edit the picture so that the front light bar is removed? i think it looks better without the horizontal bar
Oof that is a bummer, I love the black Y's they look super nice.
Milder update than I thought, given the time it’s taken to come out
Does it use the old battery or the new 4680 ?
Why isn’t the US first? Or at least the same time?
Not a stunner of a car, but neither was the old MY and why change too much about a car that was a smash hit?
When do the reviews come out?
Doesn’t sound like any new battery then, could yet be aero improvement.
Whoaaaaa this is an amazing turn of events. Thank you Tesla for listening to us roundabout-heavy countries. Now refresh the Model 3 again.
I guess you’ve never had a car that has one.
When the new ones launch, do stores place sales on the older inventory?
[Enhance!!](https://youtu.be/Vxq9yj2pVWk?si=Ab2uE2oEEMr7VCaS)
It’s also in Canada.
Range was not what I expected. Too bad it is lower.
Wow, seriously elon? Looks like come from Chinese car manufacturer
COOL LOOKS GREAT AND PRETTY DAMN CHEAP
Right now
No one cares
Are blind spot indicator lights in the mirrors coming to the US one?
It's definitely aero
I like how it has stalks. The range boost is also nice! That's kind of where it ends for me. Maybe I need to see it in person to appreciate it.
and they are selling 2025 inventory models for $8,400 cheaper.
americans hate elon, chinese love him
Another thing I noticed is there's no cost to change colours, at least for Australia
It would be nice if people cared more about the damage he's doing to the country instead of their stock price.
Because they demo manafacturing changes in China
Because Shanghai can retool quicker. This is the first time Australians get a one up on North America 😆 https://preview.redd.it/2ywkz7xk03ce1.jpeg?width=444&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2162d1a48a56d3f30acaee94a6f47aa2bb6d8faf
They have waaaaaaaaay more competition in China, they need to show the latest and greatest there first for sure.
They are going to need to add ultrasonic sensors if they want governments to approve fsd.
in white this thing looks killer.
The reason Tesla is launching in Asia/Australia is because those markets are much more competitive than the American market due to competing Chinese EVs.
This comment is weirder.
Give us non-muted colors you cowards
The rear tailgate panel lines coming straight down to the diffuser is sort of off putting to me right now. I think I would've liked to see them rounded like the outgoing model. Otherwise, I'm liking the way it's looking in these promo images.
Ugh
Not mandatory in Australia as the Model 3 without stalks is sold here
Why did it come out for the Kangaroo fighters and the math champions first?
The strange thing is that the Tesla badge is missing in some press shots but present in others
Looks pretty lame for a new color compared to the recent red
What is an “indirect reflective body panel taillight”?
Not having a camera in each headlight is what seems crazy to me — totally enable seeing around occluded turns Plus, protective housing and wiring is all already there.
Ngl hope there’s a stalk-less version option in the us. Ambient lights are a reason to go from a hw3 mxp to a potential hw5 myp juniper.
Wait for Juniper 2, gonna be way better
Those renderings with the bumper camera were on the [Tesla official site](https://reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/comments/166sznl/yes_it_has_a_front_bumper_camera/).
I was told in a FB group today that the regulations were changed after the Model 3 started to be delivered here, and as such new models require them, but the Model 3 was grandfathered in. But that was a random person in a FB group, so could be BS.
No because why would it say for "enhanced visibility" if there is already a front facing camera?
Also note - all paint colours are included. Plus this is the "Launch" edition, which has some extras (badges, puddle lights) and probably an "I must be first!" premium cost.
[deleted]
I don't mind the design at all, and I'm SO glad Tesla sticks with the basic simplistic interior, even without buttons. I don't know what it is, but I just prefer a simple plain interior then some luxurious decked out Mercedes... but maybe I just haven't ridden in a Mercedes long enough
Photo dump www.imgur.com/a/n4woOKA
The front looks meh
That’s probably why it seems to be in three distinct segments. I’d prefer a seamless look but then a single module would be more expensive to replace.
Range comparison (using the new Australia page and the old Qatar page - two regions that both use WLTP, both use km, both sell the RWD/LR, but one has the old model and one the new) * RWD - 455 to 466 km WLTP (+2.4%) * LR - 533 to 551 km WLTP (+3.4%) Since these are such small amounts, my guess is that they are due to efficiencies with the motors and aerodynamics (similar to the 2023 -> 2024 Model 3).
[deleted]
Didn't see that on the website (Singapore edition), where did you see this detail mentioned?
Aus pricing here for you mate: https://preview.redd.it/nfljpfn083ce1.png?width=2488&format=png&auto=webp&s=83fa2e00d3f6825ffda8a689090de4433a587178
China announcement: August 31, 2023 US announcement: Jan 10, 2024 Shipping was 2-3 weeks later I think. So around 4 months in between. It might go a bit faster this time since some parts are shared with the refresh Model 3 and they have two Model Y factories in the US so one could in theory already be shut down for updates while the other is still producing the previous gen Model Y.
Why? Because the entry level are the money makers over the performance. They're just getting these out to start churning over inventory and sales which then feed the performance / enthusiast cars. Makes sense.
Hopefully expensive only because it’s the ‘Launch Edition’.
Makes passing up the 0% apr push well worth it
Jesus this looks atrocious
Are you referring to the body design or internals?
Highland Model 3 is stalkless in Australia so that can’t be it.
They don’t change because the new 3 and y are 5k more expensive than the old version.
November 2022 and forward builds have the comfort suspension Ftr
Are you referring to the car as a whole or just the looks?
I am actually quite shocked that for once Tesla actually listened to customer feedback about this and actually added back the turn signals for their highest volume product. Would have probably been a disaster for sales if they didn't. I'm sure a lot of us could adapt to the buttons over time, but outside of saving $2 on a stalk there was just no sane reason to do this.
Kind of odd to have Model 3 run a totally different camera configuration than Model Y, I wonder if this means cameras will be added to the Model 3 soon.
Yeah I'd love to see some wilder colors available, or at the very least just more colors. A nice british racing green, a bright orange, a vivid blue, etc.
I’m hoping they add the bumper cam to all models that don’t have it yet. It’s super useful on the Cybertruck.
Interestingly in Australia they only offer the 20" Helix 2.0 wheels.
No, the Model 3 refresh was the same. Australia, Asia and Europe got it first and North America 6 months later.
My guess only because it’s ’Launch Series’.
Same as the Model 3 refresh did. Simply because they do the retooling of the Shanghai factory first, and those are the countries that the Shanghai-built Model Ys go to.
The computers included have always been standard “FSD capable”. EAP and FSD are just software upgrades. If you upgrade you just pay for the difference.
Can we all bee honest here? Looks like the same car with only a front and rear light change. Everything else is basic and the same. Not impressed in any way. And that’s great for me cause I have a 2023 Model Y.
https://preview.redd.it/1ypdrhr0c3ce1.png?width=3296&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ec3d5d64f0f30df93c842c45b7e21b85bd1bc56 On the Thailand site's English Model Y page under "Even Quieter"
In Malaysia it's roughly US$1000 more expensive. However, default "free" colour is now Stealth Grey instead of white now. Changing to White costs an extra US$1000. When I bought my MY last year, default free colour was "White" and I paid extra for Stealth Grey....
What does that even mean..?
It’s okay. I’ll probably get a new 3 this year though.
Also comes with 20” wheels. Presumably price post launch edition will be back around what it was with paint and wheel options.
Shouldn't the most expensive car have the highest margin though?
Completely honest. I liked the first model y model better on the exterior. Interior of the new model is nice though.
Both
I thought the same with my 2019 M3P, until I drove the new highland version. Placed an order immediately. It was a night and day difference in NVH, ride comfort, build quality and noise were FAR superior. Juniper might look similar, but I bet it's a way better vehicle.
Why does it seem a bit cheaper in HK?
Yeah that rear end is not a good look IMO. Think I’m happy I went with Highland Model 3 instead of waiting for this.
Thanks! Why would they put it buried there.
That seems to be correct! Nice catch
It should be quite a bit better in every way. Better suspension, quieter, update interior tech, etc. Everything you'd expect in a refresh. I suspect if you saw bigger exterior changes you'd associate that with different internals. But that's probably just human nature.
Or the new Kona.
Looks to be the case. Biggest complaints in reviews was using the buttons in roundabouts so this makes sense!
This is positive overall Base price of $ USD 39,300. Hope they keep same price in states.
Well I've enjoyed the car for almost a year now, so can't complain :)
[deleted]
How many km for long range
Tesla isn't competing with BYD in the US. The 2024 LR was AUD$66k so for the new model that's an almost $7000 price increase. Now $66k in Australia is $41k USD so it was already cheaper over there. The 2024 LR in the US was $47,999 so I'd not be surprised to see it at the lowest $49,900 in the States
[The rear seats are powered as well](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEodTGjxPpq/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)
that is one Rivian-looking rear lightbar
No steer by wire, no buy. (Mostly joking)
And you can see all the colors in [this video ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEoOaEnvRgW/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)
Yes, but Tesla’s ability to scale production has increased. They need different production lines, or at least different production line setups, for the standard and performance models. It will take time to get both up and running. Let’s say there is demand for 2,000 performance models and 10,000 standard models per month. If the first production line you set up can only make 1,000 cars per month then you should make 1,000 high margin cars. If you have the knowledge and experience that your first setup can make 5,000 cars per month, since you can only sell 2,000 performance cars a month you can begin recouping your investment faster by selling 2.5x as many low margin cars, assuming that performance models don’t make more than 2.5x the profit of standard models.
Looks awesome!
Make America Wait Again.
Is that a new blue?? Or exclusive to Asia/Australia
Disappointing. I had hoped that we would have more of a range improvement.
Looks like every generic Chinese EV now 👏
NVH?
Looks like a BYD, especially in glacier blue
I think only a smash hit because it wasn't a sedan. SUVs or mini-SUVs are game changers once you drive one. I don't think I can ever go back to a sedan, again unless it's a sports car.
Is there still a 7 seater option?
That probably just means they included more parts into their current casting.
If this gets the suspension and quality fixes the new Model 3 got, it will be a huge upgrade.
sweet thanks for the advice!
Mhh. Guess no surprise after the M3. A facelift with updated suspension.
Where?? Link? I can’t see this reduced my pricing anywhere?
Rwd has a 1s boost.
Range from 533km to 551km WLTP for Long Range. Disappointing. Personally I like the design tho. I hope they will introduce a Max Range version with a larger battery after the launch series.
It’s possible the RHD models built for Australia have them and they won’t have them in the US.
Ultra Red is beautiful. All colours are no cost options on this "launch edition". Those 20" Helix 2.0 wheels are included as well. I saw a Mazda with a similar colour yesterday, and it made the car look much more expensive and solid. https://preview.redd.it/sgkx4t6tv3ce1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=6f9368cdbda997b9807ca9fe95405a905f04a810
Maybe it's a China only thing lets see. Elon doesn't go back on that kinda thing
This sucks, one of my favourite parts about the highland, gonna be hard to have one of each now.
I kinda like it, very cyber-cab looking, and I'm glad it has the fog lights because the front bumper already looks empty on the LR 3 so it would look even emptier with the taller front of the Y. One thing I'm curious about is that it seems to be saying that all the seats are ventilated? This seems unlikely since very few cars have that as far as I know, but the learn more page has this line: **"Take any seat. Front and rear touchscreens put all your comfort settings within reach. Ventilated seats, power recline and soft-touch textiles will make you feel like you’re floating in space."** which seems to imply that every seat has ventilation and power recline.
Perth
Looks great. Definitely a design improvement over the old Model Y.
Asia/Australia market also gets their Model 3/Y from the Chinese factory which will switch to this refreshed model first.
When do they allow test drives for newer models? Wanted to test the ride quality before I think about trading...
not digging the cybertruck looking light bar in the front
Legacy auto has been selling you the same crap car for decades just wrapped in a new body every few years, don’t be fooled.
Holy shit that looks bad. The new front is really looking vile against that original swooping roofline. Woah.
Now will the interior led crack after a month
I see but it has details written about it on the Y page. I’d wager it has it
Screen shifting is better than stalk shifting. I find it even more fluid and natural. Turn signal stalk is necessary though. Roundabouts do suck
The front camera is mentioned on the website https://preview.redd.it/oad4ohkj94ce1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6b552af6414da6a99cbe9422051064b13e61b4c
Tesla is a Chinese EV car lol
New blue.
It says the seats fold flat. I wonder if you’ll lay completely flat with a mattress now?

The range increase is minimal. Really thought they would increase the battery size while they were doing Juniper.
Obligatory reminder to always be weary of being an early adopter of new or refreshed models. It’s generally better to wait and let them iron out the early issues.
This is excellent. Elon's awful UX decisions have been overruled once again. I'm assuming the drop in sales / terrible customer feedback piled up to the point Elon's yes men eventually relented. We've waved 'goodbye asshole' to the yoke and now to the lack of stalks. Hopefully we don't have to repeat this cycle again for some other paramount safety feature that Elon wants to remove & employees are too scared to push back on.
Seems like ground clearance reduced from 172mm to 167mm (6.8" to 6.6"). The range increase could already be in large part from this, which feels like a hack given the current Model Y's ground clearance seems too low. Since competing vehicles like the Rav4/CRV have 8 inches of ground clearance, it's bad that Juniper has reduced ground clearance.
Basically every other part of the world where roads aren't just straight grids will appreciate not performing mental gymnastics whenever they enter a roundabout
You know the inner workings of Tesla management decisions… how?
Tesla's obsession with only refreshing the very front / very rear is a huge annoyance. The front matches basically none of the design language. Wtf, Franz?
The Highland didn’t get new batteries, AFAIK. Unsurprising that Juniper doesn’t. Highland’s increased range comes from aero improvements, so likely the same with Juniper.
A *lot* of the Highland’s improvements are in the refinement and NVH. I’d be unsurprised if the same is true of Juniper. Speaking from experience (and opinion), all the small improvements in the Highland added up to a surprisingly significant change in how it felt to drive.
If we’re being honest… this seems like a bigger upgrade to the Model Y compared to the earlier update made to the Model 3. To an outsider, the new design alone makes it clear which is the newer model. For the driver, the improved suspension is an obvious giveaway (basing off the Model 3 Highland update). For passengers, the upgraded suspension, quieter cabin, and rear screen immediately set the new model apart from the old one. The only ones downplaying the changes are current Model Y owners, whose cars are widely acknowledged to have ride quality issues—and whose resale value is likely to take a noticeable hit.
I see a heck of a lot of hate elsewhere about Tesla’s interiors. Apparently, buttons are luxury, and clean simplicity isn’t. I dunno, I’ll take my clean simplicity. It’s far from perfect, and I think Tesla could have placated a lot of the “give me buttons” crowd if there was a row of configurable physical buttons and dials hanging off the bottom of the screen, without taking away from the simplicity.
Model Y never was a pretty car but this here is a new level of ugly.
Stalk- Good Front camera- great 400V battery - I'm disappointed.
taxes.
yea agreed, honestly it's not even about luxury in my mind, it's just about simplicity for me. Like watches, I'd rather have a cheapish Movado watch (left in picture) thats simple and sleek... compared to a gaudy gold encrusted watch with a ton of dials, etc. Same with architecture, I'd take plain modern over some big castle-likemansion with gold chandeliers, etc. And I do agree with you on Tesla adding a little bit to please the button crown, I think 1 simple rotating dial would be the best of both words. You can push once for 1 action, push twice for a 2nd action, hold for a 3rd action, turn the dial for scrolling through a menu, changing volume, etc. Shoot, make the cup holder ring a dial with a textured finish so you can easily turn it to do stuff I dunno lol https://preview.redd.it/vfl6qg95i4ce1.png?width=1598&format=png&auto=webp&s=c16a510f0289a6b16fb8957098f9bd69cc86ded2
We are the opposite then. I can never go back to an SUV after owning one previously. If I ever need space, I'd go for a wagon in the future.
I really wish they’d fix their headlights software on their cars, constantly blinded by teslas when driving in my (currently) dark country
Was honestly hoping for a 6 seater long wheel base oh well
I’m assuming the newly refreshed Model Y will not include premium audio on the standard RWD version, as it did pre-refresh on the Asian and Australian markets (including Malaysia). If anyone desires premium audio but doesn’t want or need the extra range or performance from the LR or Perf trims, purchase one from inventory now, that is of course if the refresh model does not matter to you.
> "Redesigned body castings reduce parts from 70 to 1 for fewer gaps. All to create a whisper-quiet ride." Translation: We could have just added a bit of sound dampening like everyone else - but that would have costed money. So instead now if you get even smallest damage to your body, instead of replacing a small part you hve to replace entire car, so we can make money!
There are no blinkers buttons on the steering wheel either.
I live in Norway and like them a lot, so fairly used to roundabouts and twisty roads.
Might actually get one.
I hope we get a hitch option. It's not on the Aussie Page right now.
Powered frunk and blinker stalk is great additions over the Highland. Definitely a contender if it releases with sane prices in Europe. Nevermind it is not a powered frunk :(
Tesla is losing tech lead. Not sure what they are doing but clearly most focuses on robot
Yeah, I was looking for the same thing. Kinda strange that it isn't mentioned in the specs, but I can't imagine they launch without it. Even the Model S has a hitch now.

Canada is on the American continent too, yes.
no what i meant is that they changed it to include stealth grey instead of pearl white and just now i have a look at model 3 they also change the included color to stealth grey too
> I think only a smash hit because it wasn't a sedan. There are a number of non-sedans available from the other manufacturers. Many of which, according to Reddit, are much better and much cheaper than MY.. When you ask for examples it's always crickets.

So count you as one (1) happy person in Norway bc of that, all the others I know complain
I know atleast 3😅
I wonder if the front light will collect snow like the cybertruck
Blinker stalk, ventilated seats, front camera - awesome! If they add bird view then I could not be happier!
He thinks about Musk and his management every night when he goes to sleep so he’s pretty much an expert.
Nah, the launch edition has 20 inch wheels
I just love how people make up whatever story they want about Elon’s role at Tesla and SpaceX to fit whatever narrative they like. One minute: “Elon doesn’t do anything at these companies but bank roll! All his employees do everything!” Next minute: “Elon’s terrible UX decisions are costing the company. All his yes men are now rebelling!”
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Musk so I kind of enjoy people making up ridiculous stories about him. Like they dedicate a big part of their lives just writing fan fiction in their heads about some dude running several successful companies.
They nailed it. All the complaints of the Y and new 3 were fixed. This has turn signal stalks, front bumper cam, improved suspension and interior noise, more efficient, ventilated seats, etc. Even powered rear seats now. It needed this update, but they crushed it. I can't see why anyone would choose any other EV on the market at this point other than personal preferences.
The bolted some new parts on, and they don’t really flow with the rest of the car. The did the cheapest possible thing.
The corners of the taillight are a joke. Filled in black plastic where the old taillight design went.
Here is what Grok said... The 2025 Tesla Model Y, known internally as "Juniper," has been launched in China with several updates and new features. Here's a detailed overview: * Design Updates: The Model Y Juniper features a redesigned front and rear with full-width LED light bars that mimic the style of the Tesla Cybertruck and the Cybercab robotaxi. The front fascia has a more angular light bar, and the rear has a design similar to the Model 3 Highland refresh, including a light bar on the hatch for a distinctive look. The overall side profile remains similar to the outgoing model but with updated bumpers and wheels. * Interior: The interior of the 2025 Model Y brings it in line with the Model 3 Highland update, featuring ambient lighting strips, a rear passenger screen, and a stalk-less steering wheel. The cabin is expected to be quieter with better quality materials, improved noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels, and new features for comfort and functionality. * Performance and Range: Two variants are initially available: a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model with a range of 593 km (CLTC) and a long-range all-wheel-drive (AWD) version with an extended range of 719 km (CLTC). The long-range variant achieves 0-100 km/h in up to 4.3 seconds, showcasing improved acceleration. The RWD model is priced starting at 263,500 yuan ($35,900), and the long-range AWD at 303,500 yuan ($41,400). These prices represent slight increases over the previous models. * Production and Delivery: The facelifted Model Y began production in Shanghai, with deliveries expected to start in March 2025, following regulatory approval. This model is the first for the Asia-Pacific market, with plans for a broader release later. * Market Context: This refresh comes at a time when Tesla is facing increased competition in China, particularly from local manufacturers like BYD, Xiaomi, and others offering vehicles with more competitive features and pricing. The Model Y has been one of the best-selling vehicles in China, and this update aims to maintain or recapture market share with its new design and enhanced capabilities. * Additional Features: The vehicle includes enhancements like a new tire and wheel package, improved suspension for a smoother ride, and possibly new colors and speakers. The long-range AWD model also comes with an "Acceleration Boost" as part of the "Launch Series" package. This update to the Model Y reflects Tesla's ongoing strategy to refine and evolve its offerings to meet market demands, particularly in one of its most significant markets, China.
Looks better than the old one
Yes new blue… I call it BYD blue 😂😂
Yeah, wow. The inside looks really sparse and cheap.
There goes the value of my MY22, again! Happy to see Tesla doing updates though.
When people say America they aren’t referring to North America or South America, they’re referring to the USA.
[deleted]
Correction: you see A stalk. That’s half the battle! Let’s see if Tesla can really innovate and bring back the shifter stalk in the next refresh!
https://preview.redd.it/9ujblg2ex5ce1.png?width=1090&format=png&auto=webp&s=3edb8a6019eed270974fe8e7da08dea363da1175 The rear diffuser sticks out a bit from the body of the car. Unlike the current MY, where the hatch and rear bumper are flush.
It’s still more expensive than last gen by a few grand. Keep in mind Australia has some of the best Tesla prices globally due to the pressures from BYD, MG and others. So it might not coincide with UK pricing.
Any range improvements?
You see stalks for Australia probably not for US market.
It's not just competition keeping prices down in China, it's also that the Chinese buyers have less capital than US buyers. That's why everyone wants to sell goods in the US. Bc a higher median income means you can charge higher prices. BYD would not be cheap in the US.
No 7 seat option. Booooo
Will the new model y not have a performance version? I don’t see it on the Aussie Website
It's a single casting car, monumental first in the auto industry. Super impressive
*Cries in Canadian*
Thanks. Any thoughts when the "Normal" new model Y would be available vs. the "Launch" model
If it was single piece I don't think castings would be plural
I hope I am not alone in disliking this trend of illuminating **anything** more than headlights and fog lights (and brake lights) on vehicles.
Much better than the dated looking navy blue they had.
You might look around for parts from wrecker yards, ebay motors, etc.
Wonder if the 0% financing offer remains with the new release. Anyone knows?
It's very significant inside and out. Just like the Model 3, this will result in fantastic improvements on pretty much every metric that matters.
Steer by wire possible in Europe?
Stalk\*
I don’t get this design language. It’s the curvy Model Y of old in the middle with more angular front and rear end stuck on. It seems mismatched to me. Also more generic looking. I’m not a fan. Seems neither here nor there
[deleted]

No. Really it should be the buyers choice.
I’d say the buyers have chosen, can’t think of much else of a reason for Tesla to change it back other than that they were losing sales over it.
Yeah that’s interesting. Some of the marketing photos have it, others don’t. Odd
That is what I am looking forward to. Exterior changes are just gravy. Interior is what I'm interested in. I do wish they added a brown option for the interior or a special L trim or something that was more plush/luxurious.
Noise, vibration, harshness. It is a common language when describing cars (I only know this because I just recently bought a car and did a lot of research).
What makes you think they were losing sales over it? On the CT I find the buttons are more convenient. Granted, that is steer-by-wire.
Are you in a roundabout-heavy country? Judging by the fact that you were able to drive a CT, I assume not. If Tesla was losing sales around the world except in America, then that is still a net loss of sales. And yeah, steer-by-wire does make a big difference here.
The range is shit
Man, clicking on that link and almost sharted when I saw the price tag before I realized it was HK dollars.
Not gonna happen, Elon hates bright colors…
Are we expecting 7 seats? That's a huge selling point for me.
Goddamn koala lovers
“Hey, Google. Convert 450 Chinese miles to US miles.”
this is just for the wheel and tire it seems
Man, that's wild regarding the suspension. My 2024 model's suspension is pretty bad, even though it's supposedly noticeably improved. Couldn't imagine how bad the previous years must be.
It’s a bit ugly.
I see how it could be interpreted either way, but the Tesla China website calls it the “Front View Camera” and the Cybertruck user manual calls the bumper camera the “Front Facing Camera,” so I think there’s a good chance it’s referring to the bumper cam. Why give it its own blurb otherwise? There’s a wide FOV stereo windshield cam setup on every other Tesla, and none of them have a place on the product page dedicated to it.
“Front-Facing Camera” is what they call the bumper cam in the Cybertruck manual FWIW.
The Cybertruck has a washer built in for the bumper cam. It’s super useful. I use it every day!
Dumb take
Because Tesla is very, very good at keeping costs down.
The Australian press release confirms front bumper camera and indicator stalk
No it's referencing the front bumper camera that is confirmed in the Australian press release.
It's confirmed in the Australian press release and it also mentions a spray nozzle
Confirmed in the Australian press release to have a indicator stalk
Thing looks like a Chevy equinox
I'd not about simplicity, it's usability. Physical buttons are a FAR better interface design. It means you get tactile feedback and can rely on muscle memory when you manipulate controls so you don't need to look away from the road to make sure your finger hits the virtual target. Yes, the simplicity of fewer buttons looks better (Apple design 101) but when operating a vehicle I want my damn buttons.
Looks dope 🔥 hope they keep the price down tho
Disappointed that it is mostly cosmetic changes. I really want to see some major improvements in range.
- I believe it’s the front bumper camera not the one on the windshield . That has always been there in all the cars -
38k usd for RWD!? That's pretty good
3%
The headlight looks like all other Chinese EV 😂. Can’t beat them… join them!
Ultra red is at least a very rich red with some depth. That blue is too muted for me and doesn’t look exciting
Yeah, it just looks bad. I’ve never been a fan of the Model Y’s looks in the first place (vertically stretched Model 3) but this just made it - not worse, but different - and still bad. I feel like all that would need to change is the front headlight area, but I’m not sure what it needs to become.
Want to know how the third row seating experience in the refresh model Y is.. Headroom being the main issue for older than 5Y olds and above.. was one of the most reported issue with the previous model Y's third row seating.. Checked both China and Aus site.. Both are yet to list them, i believe..
China Site: https://preview.redd.it/a6v69avmv7ce1.png?width=3413&format=png&auto=webp&s=4fc15979e944c90206a9269d809f8ee90cb1edfa

Same here.. I checked both Aus and China websites.. Both havent listed new model with third row seating..
But I did read about 6 seat models..
What about third row seats? Any update on that?
What about third row seats? Any update on that?
I think it looks great tbh
It has a 719km range???
It's entirely possible to design a shit physical interface, much as it's possible to design a good touchscreen interface. Physical buttons *alone* do not automatically make an interface good. As for tactile feedback and muscle memory: I *get* it, but I think this is hugely dependent on the function and on how well the interface is designed. For example, I don't personally perceive a downside to my temperature control being on my touchscreen. It's clear, it stays in the same place, I have the muscle memory, and whether it was a touchscreen or a physical control, I'd be glancing at it either way to make sure I've set the desired temperature. I do understand, and indeed expect, that others will have a different experience. I just *personally* think that there's **a lot** more to an interface than simply "physical button good, touch bad".
Thanks. You have a link to it?
It was also released during a time when everyone wanted a Tesla regardless of what was out there. The one's that picked ID.4s, Mustangs, or anything out there just didn't want a Tesla or wanted other functions not found in Teslas.
>It's entirely possible to design a shit physical interface, True >much as it's possible to design a good touchscreen interface. False. >For example, I don't personally perceive a downside to my temperature control being on my touchscreen. It's clear, it stays in the same place, I have the muscle memory, and whether it was a touchscreen or a physical control, I'd be glancing at it either way to make sure I've set the desired temperature. Muscle memory doesn't work like that, your fingers need to feel the control you're manipulating. Your touchscreen temperature control will always be inferior to a physical temperature control when operating a vehicle.
Huh? How so? Mercedes manged to quiet down their car so much they had to add noise back in because people ere getting sick from the silence. VW cars are much quieter than Teslas as well. None of them use giga casting. Seems those two things are simply unrelated.
As you are steadfast in your belief that physical controls are superior, let's try a different tack. Why do you think phones moved away from physical keyboards? It's obviously *not* because a touch keyboard is better to use than a physical, tactile one. But, there are advantages *besides* the physical operation of the control. Okay, fine, that's a consumer device. Very different from operating a vehicle. So what about aircraft? Modern aircraft have moved towards glass cockpits, with MFDs displaying information and instrumentation, and some controls, instead of dedicated dials, gauges, and switches for absolutely everything. Okay, fine, they're not *entirely* display-based, and MFDs typically use physical buttons instead of a touchscreen. ...Except for the F-35, one of the most advanced, complex aircraft designed and built to date, the cockpit of which is built around an enormous touchscreen. A system which is not without drawbacks, and has drawn criticism, not just from typically-clueless media but from pilots that have used it. So, why did they use a huge touchscreen? The lack of tactility is an obvious downside. So it's *inferior*, right? No. Because that lack of tactility has been traded off for substantial benefits in configurability, a larger surface to display information, and offering a level of control that is not practical through a physical interface with the number of inputs that would be required. So: temperature control. Is my touchscreen temperature control *inferior* to a physical temperature control? Well, yes. At least, solely from the perspective of interacting with it. But that's not the only consideration with an interface. How do I use the control? Usually, I don't: it stays set at a temperature at which I'm comfortable. Maybe on some day, I feel like I want a bit more heat, and knock it up two notches with two taps before I start driving. Maybe I need to knock it back half a degree when driving, which takes a single tap. So, does it matter that I lose tactility and the fine control afforded by a dial? No. Would having a dial be *better to interact with?* Yes. It would also take up more space. Because tactility offers little upside to that control for me, that's a net downside. Does that hold true of all controls? Obviously not. But I do assert that a good touchscreen interface is doable.
Cool for the auto industry, not meaningfully different to the consumer
[removed]
also faster, easier and therefore cheaper to manufacture.
Looks like US MYLR starts at 44.9 USD and Europe starts at 51.2 USD. Doesn't seem comparable at all.
>As you are steadfast in your belief that physical controls are superior, let's try a different tack. Superior **while operating a vehicle.** > Why do you think phones moved away from physical keyboards? Because you're not supposed to use a phone while driving. And because there's a huge variety of non-phone uses for smartphones so the adaptiveness of a touchscreen wins. >Modern aircraft have moved towards glass cockpits, with MFDs displaying information and instrumentation, and some controls, instead of dedicated dials, gauges, and switches for absolutely everything. Oh yeah, [no buttons at all](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_cockpit)... >...Except for the F-35, one of the most advanced, complex aircraft designed and built to date, the cockpit of which is built around an enormous touchscreen. [Still a lot of buttons](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/cbicqv/f35_cockpit/#lightbox). And I'm guessing most of the HUD is for display purposes. Critical stuff is probably buttons. The nice thing about a plane is there's usually fewer things you can hit. No. I tend to modify a bit more depending how I feel on the drive and how passengers respond. ps. I hope the heated seat is an actual button as you'll definitely want to change that while driving.
You've missed, or dodged, the point. Yes, there are controls that you want to be able to reach immediately, and interact with without looking at. And there are controls where a touchscreen interaction is acceptable, and a compromise that may be chosen for its upsides. The F-35 needs to be fully controllable while its pilot is pulling Gs. The pilot needs to do that while firing weapons and deploying countermeasures. *And yet*, *some* controls are deemed acceptable to place on a touchscreen, and it was deemed a worthwhile tradeoff for the benefits of having an enormous screen and high configurability. A pilot obviously isn't fucking around with their maps while they're in a dogfight, yet doing so on a touchscreen when they're in steady, level flight is fine. (Not that the F-35 will ever dogfight, but you get the point.) I don't need, or want, a dial for my temperature control, because I'm not fucking around with it if I'm in a situation where I need full focus tracking potential hazards or on controlling the car through a twisty road on a spirited drive. That's true whether it's a dial or a touch interface. Perhaps you have a problem with the tactility of a touch interface for changing the temperature by a few degrees. I, personally, do not. And yes, the heated seat controls are touch-based too! And that's also fine. Why? * It's a large, obvious, fixed icon that's close to the wheel. * For me, tapping it once, or twice, or a few times, is not significantly different to pressing a dedicated button. * No, I'm often *not* changing it while driving, because the auto mode often does a good job. Again: I'm *not* suggesting that the experience of interacting with these is better than a physical control. It isn't. But in these cases, I'm comfortable with the trade-off of having them on a touchscreen. Which enables space for huge, clear, detailed navigation and infotainment, while keeping a very open, spacious-feeling interior. I'm also *not* suggesting that Tesla's interface is perfect. It isn't. There are things I'd change. But I do **not** agree that there's no such thing as a good touchscreen interface, nor that a physical control is always superior to a touch-based one. And if you disagree, and hate interacting with touchscreens, that's fine. But stop expressing your opinions as if they are objective fact.
If there's room for a physical control then that's a superior solution. If there's no room or the buttons are too crowded to make it feasible, then the touchscreen is an acceptable alternative. There's stuff that should go in a touchscreen, but core controls being accessed while driving should be physical as much as possible. There's exceptions and nuance of course, but that's the general rule.
Did the range increase?
I kind of liked the Model 3 headlights more. This feels like a different brand’s car
[Tesla in Taiwan](https://www.tesla.com/zh_tw/modely/design#overview) also launched the new Model Y, but it is only available in two colors. Notably, these cars are manufactured in Berlin or at least outside of China, rather than at the Shanghai Gigafactory. Due to regulations, Taiwan does not allow finished vehicles imported from China. As a result, the vehicles cost over $30,000 more compared to other Asian countries.

Not people. China. BYD charges more in the EU than they do in China. Significantly more. Everyone in the US thinks we'd get a $40 model x competitor but it just won't happen with or without tariffs.
That rear is awful 😂
It was given out to Australian media and youtubers but I don't think it's been uploaded to the website for general viewing. This youtuber reads through it. https://youtu.be/LegePE9hb0Q?si=SkrNydtlsL6tmwIs
Saw a covered one driving around the bay area last month.
Wow! Like the new design, cybercab like. Wonder if giga texas will be producing them soon. Anyone guessing the timeline? Is refresh model 3 coming out of Texas yet?
That, that is a very good point. Perhaps two pieces, then.
It certainly looks familiar. Almost Seal like.
It's been reported as a spec by local car journalists. Who knows if it will be viable in the car.
https://preview.redd.it/nrfa9y5dqbce1.jpeg?width=1239&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6b85a96024c81b92b6699d38b73feea4ec2d5a1 Haven't seen that front light bar before Tesla... So unique
100%. Any car in that navy blue color looks like a toy car.
This is a key reason why I didn't end up buying one last year. I just have to have a bit of colour in my cars. Ended up with the EX30 in nice butter yellow
That's all true. But also as I mentioned - harder and costlier to repair. Unfortunately you can see it already in the insurance costs. Teslas with highest safety ratings in the world and all the support tech in form of FSD and autopilots are one of the most expensive cars to insure - even compared to other EVs. And one of the reasons for it is their giga-castings that make most cars a total write-off even for minor damage.
https://preview.redd.it/c2m45l915dce1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48137eabde3aa23207662b51c26bd561b71c3bbc Which one is it?
Completely honest. I disagree. The first MY looked like a pregnant M3. This one actually has a different, more modern look rather than just being a knocked up copy of original M3.
Does it really matter? The 7 seater was and always has been a joke in the MY.
Oh look a new piece of garbage!
Do these lights actually work in a snowstorm? Unlike the cubertruck light bar? Seems slim, are they heated?
like a knockoff hyundai
It looks really like a model of XiaoPeng…
China requires logos so the ones produced in china will have the logo. In the US they will probably launch without logos like the cybercab and cybertruck. The logo really adds no value to the product from a manufacturing and cost standpoint.
Is that a navel? The new Model Y is a placental mammal?
That's also going to be significantly cheaper to manufacture - once they recoup the cost of the press. It would not surprise me if the cost of that press doubled the production line cost. Still worth it in the long run.
That would be wild. But a little strange.
Ah, that “Mazda red”. Best colour of all.
Wonder if you can add front camera on older 2024 models if this improves fsd/summons
While noise might be another benefit of gigacasting, the biggest benefit is speed, and therefore cost. It gives Tesla the option to sell a cheaper car, or a better profit margin than competitors.
I'm not sure why you're explaining this to me. That's literally what I said before - it's to make production cheaper but replairs harder. Good for Tesla and investors (lower cost, higher margins), bad for anyone buying one (higher insurance cost, higher repairs cost, higher chance to total the car).
In the UK it's £14000 more expensive. Is it likely this is just due to it being the "launch" edition and the non launch edition will be in line with the previous model?
Legal issue. In some countries the badge is a must so in those market there is a badge, otherwise no.
