I thought I might regret my 2024 Model 3 when this car finally released. I can happily say I absolutely do not regret it… this looks rough in my opinion.

It no longer looks like a bloated M3. Starting to have its own distinct identity even if the design is polarizing. Seems like the front light bar is part of the design language of Teslas now. I wonder if there is any function to this, or if it just cosmetic.

This is a heavily zoomed and distorted photo. The proportions in real life wont be the same. But yes, in these photos it gives off skinny tire / awkward body Pontiac Aztec vibes

Way too many car companies are using the thin front light bar as the lazy go-to “2020s modern” design. It’s become generic so quickly.

Yes, somehow. Just as I suspect this new refresh will be slightly less ugly than the original Y. But all these hunchback turtle shaped cars can never be sexy or sleek looking.

Side note, I like how bad the panel gaps are that you can already see them at this distance and that blurry lol

It's not "really" the same segment, but I'm theoretically the same buyer who would either buy a Macan or a Model Y. And when I got rid of the Model 3, I didn't go to a Model Y, I bought the Macan. And yes, the Macan Electric looks absolutely hideous, not just in photos, but in-person also. That said, I think they'll be able to fix it with a model refresh. The Model Y on the other hand just got uglier.

This was never going to be as good. The 3 JUST about pulled off only l changing the front and rear and leaving the cabin area the same, but it's still kind of a half measure thing to do. That's even harder on the Y where that cabin area is chubby as heck.

What else is in its classs most things look better that I compare it to imo. I remember a head turning moment the first time i saw a 2 tone rav4 prime.

I like the 5, the 6 is a big WTF.

Yeah, that’s a pass for me. I know people will say it’s covered in snow and the perspective is off, but if front and back is vaguely the way it looks in these pics I will end my Tesla ownership with the current generation. I find Chinese car design elements especially on non-Chinese cars (I’m looking at you Audi and BMW) repugnant. Rivian's R2 is a beauty.

I like the look, definitely an improvement over the current Y. Sales increase locked in. This is the performance with the air scoops as well. The back is covered in snow so I think it’ll look even better thawed out. Also I’m curious if we’ll see a new color, it’ll look very cool in black, white, blue, red. The shiny gray color isn’t my favorite, would prefer a bright silver

Well, that Cybertruck reference is surprisingly ugly.

That's just bizarre, they're so large I assume it's a design flair, but if so it's not a good one.

Which seems to be one of the most functionally problematic features of the cybertruck. Basically it can easily get filled with snow, killing visibility, or light up the falling snow directly in front of you, also killing visibility.

I can’t recall seeing any Tesla ever made and thinking its design language was inspired by Porsche. All I really see is “drag coefficient” or “triangle”. I love both companies, but I don’t see any design language crossover at all….

I just hope they aren't going down the route of styling everything more like the Cybertruck. Right now I feel like Tesla still has a semi unique and unoffensive look. They look sleek and modern, this to me looks like its trying too hard, and the front light bar is ugly on all cars IMO.

The light bar isn’t an issue. It’s that it’s not functional as actual road illumination. The real headlights are further down near the bumper which has a ridge and can indeed be covered by snow. This looks like the actual headlights are in line with the light bar this time and no ridge so shouldn’t have the same issue. Light bar still just cosmetic I would guess.

First gen 3 is very Porsche.

The OG Model 3’s front end looks *strikingly* similar to a Porsche and it’s pretty well known that Franz was influenced by them. The fascia, headlights, hood curve, it’s all quite close.

Yeah, I recall when I first started following Tesla. Their cars were pretty rare on the road where I live. I played a game where I tried to guess from a distance if if it was a Tesla car that's approaching or not a Tesla. I noticed that there was one type of car that to my eyes was telling me "that's a Tesla" only to find out it was not. Those were Porsches.

There are many reports that Project Highland was entirely done by Tesla China. Production started in Giga Shanghai hence why Model 3 Highland came out in RHD regions first.

Are the rims scratched yet? Every Model Y owner I’ve met from 2021 to 2024 who drives in the city has dealt with curb rash and found it necessary to invest in rim protection. This might sound petty but it is a problem for many owners of a Tesla Y and definitely reduces the resale cost on the Tesla Y. The only solution is buying aftermarket wheel covers to protect, the rims of a Tesla Y should not be a thing that most owners have to do….but it is.
