In China...

sparx_fast 2024-12-19 14:19

It puts Tesla on the clock in the US market though as people delay their purchases because they know something new is coming soon. I think within 6 months, Tesla will have to have launched it in the US market to avoid crazy discounting.

asianApostate 2024-12-19 14:52

How long did it take model 3 highland to come out in the u.s. after the China release?  Not long right?

TigglyWiggly95 2024-12-19 15:17

I hope they make a six seat version

DoggyAfuera0 2024-12-19 15:21

I really hope they don’t do the center console rear screen. It hurts necks to be looking down that much. A screen on the back of each seat for each kid would work. So many cars already do this

[deleted] 2024-12-19 15:46

-SetsunaFSeiei- 2024-12-19 15:53

I think 3-4 months

Joatboy 2024-12-19 16:24

They should change the standard rims to 18" then

General_Put_8388 2024-12-19 16:25

They learned from Highland - Fremont is going to be printing these things simultaneously as Shanghai

MooselookManiac 2024-12-19 18:10

I wonder what pricing will be for the performance trim... I should have bought a Y when I got my 3 last year, but at least now I have an excuse to upgrade. Gotta have those ventilated seats and the rear screen!

22marks 2024-12-19 18:29

I haven't had a single complaint on mine and no reports of neck issues. Looking slightly down is more comfortable. Think about your eye and head position while reading a book.

22marks 2024-12-19 18:30

That would be amazing, with a little center aisle. The article says "Giga Shanghai will deliver a three-row 6-seater Model Y in the fourth quarter of 2025."

ElectricGlider 2024-12-19 18:53

I guess it might hurt your neck especially if you're on the taller side, but for the majority of people especially kids this is not an issue at all. After all the "normal" way to read a book has always been looking downwards.

7Sans 2024-12-19 18:59

O man looks like 2027 i will upgrade to the new junioer model y. Im goig to assume it will take few months for it to be produced in the US and im going to wait atleast a year to make sure factory has settled down on production like and workers are not in rush. Gotta make sure it is built with quality control

bittabet 2024-12-19 19:17

Q1 EOQ sales will probably be quite aggressive to clear out the existing cars then.

Bangaladore 2024-12-19 20:02

Just a reminder to everyone. This is going to almost certainly be a larger highland and nothing more.

whykae 2024-12-19 20:27

Hence the 0% APR push for delivery by 12/31.

EljayDude 2024-12-19 20:32

Or as close as they can manage anyway.

EljayDude 2024-12-19 20:33

Well yes but there's always a big Q4 push anyway.

RemoveImmediate8023 2024-12-19 20:50

I would love 18’ rims. More comfort, more range, less curb rash on the rims.

TimTom8321 2024-12-19 21:23

I actually think it's a point for Tesla where they could differentiate between the 3 and the Y. The original reason why the Y looks so identical to the 3, was that it was launched just after 2018 and the production hell with the model 3. It was developed during it too. Tesla needed a vehicle that would easily scale with what they already have, and won't go through the same difficulties - they couldn't get out of one bad year just to potentially enter another one a year later. It would also help Tesla which was burning money back then, since more production of the same products means cheaper production per unit. If I remember correctly, the model Y had 75% of it the same parts as the 3. Now that's a long time now not a reason for Tesla, since they know much more on production, and they turn profit. Now's the potential time to continue with what they actually already did a year ago - divide between the 3 and Y and make them 2 different products, rather than a model 3 and XL model 3 with a hatchback.

wrongshirt 2024-12-19 21:26

What have they been in previous years?

Bangaladore 2024-12-19 21:41

I would disagree simply because they would have released a Y refresh prior to the 3 refresh. Y sells better, it makes way more sense to do that and then refresh the 3. Instead they use the 3 as the testing vehicle for the Y refresh so the Y refresh is smoother.

Solarsurferoaktown 2024-12-19 21:52

I test drove the highland and was amazed by the suspension, I’ll take a Y highland version NP

ChunkyThePotato 2024-12-19 21:54

Not sure why you're assuming that. Model Y is also a lot more complicated to transition, as it's produced in 4 factories rather than 2. And the US Model Y is supplied by 2 separate factories. They may intentionally choose to stagger the rollout by region in order to not have production of their most popular model completely stalled.

ChunkyThePotato 2024-12-19 21:56

Putting a screen in the back at all raises cost. They're clearly willing to add cost if the benefit is worth the cost. Not sure two separate screens is worth the cost though. It's also kind of awkward from a design standpoint.

ChunkyThePotato 2024-12-19 21:57

The front and rear design will be different from Highland. We've already seen enough of it to know that. The interior will also be at least slightly different, based on pictures we've seen.

moonisflat 2024-12-19 22:28

Free super charging for life is the only thing that can make me purchase a current model Y.

Tetris_Prime 2024-12-19 22:52

They have run incentives on rebates almost every Q4 in Europe. Often to push more cars on specific government incentives. We have tonnes of Model 3s flooding the market in Northern Europe due to crazy incentives from Teala and governments.

TimTom8321 2024-12-19 23:16

But that's not the only factor. The Y was still a relatively new design, it was half the age of the 3, which before highlander was the oldest current design of a vehicle in the lineup

cadium 2024-12-19 23:53

With everything else the same, its not much of a change.

ChunkyThePotato 2024-12-19 23:59

Well of course it's not gonna be massively different. It's one company's sedan and SUV. It's normal that they'd share a lot of things.

Stealthtt385 2024-12-20 00:59

So we can pretty much count on it being ready in 2026. What

trucker_dan 2024-12-20 01:23

Any rumors of it having steer by wire? After buying a cybertruck, we’re not upgrading my wife’s model 3 until they have a steer by wire option. It’s amazing.

Grandpas_Spells 2024-12-20 02:17

That’s going to be an improvement on an incredibly popular car. The main problems are suspension/ride quality and road noise. Fixing that is huge.

DuneProphecy 2024-12-20 02:48

Finally

moondizzlepie 2024-12-20 02:52

I just bought one and couldn’t disagree more. I looked at a used 2023 model with 15k miles and they still wanted 35k.

JasonQG 2024-12-20 04:06

Doubtful. I’m guessing that would come in the next upgrade cycle. So first to S/X and later to 3/Y. Probably Roadster will have it from the beginning, whenever that finally comes

volcanic_clay 2024-12-20 04:35

Wondering though if the new administration threatening to remove EV credits will make someone buy ASAP.

wdean13 2024-12-20 06:45

seems like everytime the stock dips a little a new story comes out ---

djentbat 2024-12-20 09:33

This is making me debating getting the refreshed model 3 vs the y. I’m torn because I’d rather wait for the Junyper but I think that EV credit is gonna go away day 1.

Present-Ad-9598 2024-12-20 12:07

Can’t say how I know but I’m gonna say production starts January 13th in the US

[deleted] 2024-12-20 14:09

No rumors at all, so not until the next generation at the earliest

[deleted] 2024-12-20 14:10

Make sure you buy one made in Texas

Impressive-Revenue94 2024-12-20 15:12

Yup that’s why I’m not buying any Tesla until i see some inventory clearing discounts

Super-Kirby 2024-12-20 15:20

So probably dumb question but this won’t have air suspension, right?

iqisoverrated 2024-12-20 15:54

Given that the Highland is a huge leap compared to the earlier Model 3 that's a pretty big 'nothing more'.

Idunnoagoodusername2 2024-12-20 16:24

I think the rear screen just needs improvement, like if it had a telescopic lifting mechanism, even as a third party accessory, it would be much better. Wouldn't even need to lift too much

jgmz- 2024-12-20 17:34

Looks like a Hyundai sonata lmao

Freewheeler631 2024-12-20 19:54

Cimexus 2024-12-20 19:56

Which is perfect. The Highland refresh is fantastic, but some people just want that in a Y (ie. with a bit more interior room and ground clearance). I have the Highland and debating trading it in for a Juniper. Love the Model 3 but getting in and out is a bit annoying as I’m getting older, and it’s a very low car even for a sedan. I’m kind of secretly hoping they put something a little extra in the Y though to distinguish it. Maybe a power outlet/V2L or something.

Cimexus 2024-12-20 20:00

Kids don’t care though. And it’s mainly for kids. And Uber passengers.

medicallyspecial 2024-12-20 20:05

Cannot wait

buzzoptimus 2024-12-20 22:41

That front grille is cosmetic surgery gone wrong

SaCTaCo 2024-12-21 02:11

I am one of those waiting for the updated model. But I will also wait another 6 months so I can avoid those silly manufacturing issues.

Ivor-Ashe 2024-12-21 02:42

No thanks. Won’t be giving money to a despot.

Resolution_Powerful 2024-12-21 04:55

Or free FSD would be nice too

wolfpwner9 2024-12-21 07:47

Welp, already got current gen for 0 APR

zer0moto 2024-12-21 07:59

They got rid of the 0 apr? I checked the site the other day and don’t see it

whykae 2024-12-21 08:04

It was order by 12/15 and take delivery by 12/31.

zer0moto 2024-12-21 08:04

Bummer!

EddiewithHeartofGold 2024-12-21 12:33

> a larger highland and nothing more You are saying that as if it's a bad thing or just a plain nothing-burger, when the highland refresh on the Model 3 was substantial...

Bangaladore 2024-12-21 13:08

No, i think the highland is a great refresh. But it’s not uncommon here for people to think the new MY will have everything under the sun. We know what it will have, just look at highland.

socalccna 2024-12-21 14:35

I have a 23 MYP, and I really hate the suspension and battery range, but everything else is on point. Wondering how this one will compare and improve in this areas

Jumpy_Implement_1902 2024-12-21 15:03

Did photos of the refresh finally leak?

mightyopik 2024-12-21 16:45

Not without heavy camo

DuneProphecy 2024-12-21 17:53

Cant believe people are still buying new model Ys when we knew this was coming

PeterLegend626 2024-12-21 23:43

Purchased my MYP in October 2023, originally i was gonna wait but my Accord was experiencing issues. The suspension is fine for me, could be softer but handles good. If the tax credit is gone, i still expect this to sell well.

DuneProphecy 2024-12-21 23:46

And every time someone said this previously they were down voted to hell lol

Present-Discount4483 2024-12-22 03:46

Looks like a crossover w/ lucid

alwaysforward31 2024-12-22 04:31

It's different this quarter. Tesla sales were down year over year at the end of the 3rd quarter for the first time in its history. Now they had to do all kinds of incentives like 3 months free FSD and supercharging in addition to the 7500 tax credit and 0% apr to sell 515k units in Q4 just to get 1.8M sales and match last year's numbers. It's troublesome when overall EVs sales are growing but Tesla is fighting to just match last year sales.

Blueliner95 2024-12-22 06:47

Gee I wonder why

CarCooler 2024-12-22 08:23

Timing is everything.

gburgwardt 2024-12-22 14:58

I'd bet that prices will drop, since presumably they'll lose sales to some degree. They're charging the price that sells every car they can make and not one less, and they'll change price to maintain that

OaktownCatwoman 2024-12-22 17:15

Besides the things that are different, everything else will be the same.

No_Alfalfa_649 2024-12-22 21:09

I didn’t buy a brand new y last month to have the coolest latest shiniest thing. I bought it because with 0% Apr and plenty of discounts made it fairly cheap for what was being offered. I bought it for the price, and cost savings. Other than tinting my front windows to match the rear I will never add any upgrades to it or accessorize it. It’s my car to get me to and from work mostly and take the kids to school and activities. In our family this is our “cheap” every day car. So I think it depends on what they are looking for. I literally bought this Y for the incentives BECAUSE I knew the juniper was coming out.

[deleted] 2024-12-22 23:36

Let's see how 1/4 turns out first

[deleted] 2024-12-23 18:12

I used to drive corvettes as my car of choice. MYP is smooooth. 😂

[deleted] 2024-12-23 18:13

You can add the rear screen, but agree with the ventilated seats

MooselookManiac 2024-12-23 18:29

True I really am just excited for an excuse to swap out a standard range 3 for a performance Y. Gotta have that completely unnecessary torque.

[deleted] 2024-12-23 19:12

I have a MYP but already acclimated and want a plaid now lol

MooselookManiac 2024-12-23 19:24

Hedonic treadmill lolol

Secure_Detective_602 2024-12-23 23:36

Have you considered an aftermarket suspension upgrade?

paradoxofchoice 2024-12-24 01:07

by then we should have confirmed features of the new model and decide if they are worth waiting for.

yellowfddriver 2024-12-24 06:21

I would trade my ‘23 hw3 MXP for a Juniper Y performance most likely. Hope they release it with AI5 to future proof for fsd. Being in the abandonware category sucks.

apatheticwizardsfan 2024-12-24 13:10

Yup, same reason I bought a M3 in December of 2023. Got an inventory M3 that was discounted about $6,000, plus the $7,500 tax credit. Never been happier with a car purchase.

[deleted] 2024-12-24 18:18

[removed]

caholder 2024-12-24 22:58

A car that hasn't been refreshed just isn't exciting when there's new ones out there with better features

Blueliner95 2024-12-24 23:43

Any other possible reasons affecting demand?

cherrytoffee 2024-12-25 06:25

You can already do that right now. The highland shocks fit on the current model y. And you get 90% of the comfort of the highland.

SupaZT 2024-12-25 16:00

Many more upgrades than just shocks

joshkitty 2024-12-26 01:37

better FSD though ? I got locked out for a week so I'm scared to live without it tbh

soeffingsick 2024-12-26 05:12

Trying to manage my expectations with all the rumours but after seeing the leak from earlier this year with the indirect light bar on the back to then seeing the cybercab reveal which also had an indirect light bar, my gut tells me Tesla might be diverging from the model 3 design language with this Y refresh and bringing it more in line with the ‘cyber’ design language of the truck and the cab with front and rear light bars. I would personally love this but who knows - we’ll soon find out :)

Excellent-Park-6186 2024-12-26 12:30

Competition, not everyone cares about owners of the company.

Longjumping_Clue5839 2024-12-27 02:21

Most likely will have similar upgrades to M3 Highland

Longjumping_Clue5839 2024-12-27 02:23

Despot? You don’t know any specs or how it’ll look like.

Longjumping_Clue5839 2024-12-27 02:24

What? It’ll definitely be ready in 2025.

Tower-Union 2024-12-27 04:56

I’d even buy one if they let me TRANSFER my FUSC.

neevar79 2024-12-27 14:21

I bit the bullet and collected my Model Y yesterday. While I was looking for the basic Long Range RWD there were none in any of the tesla's including San Diego that I could take a hand over before 31st. They showed me deliveries scheduled for Jan 4th, Jan 9th, Feb 15th etc. I walked out with a Performance model ( demo with 1000 miles) at a discounted price of $45270 including title, registration and destination fees. My friend who got the exact same model 2 years ago paid $72K and was raving about the deal I got. I myself paid $62K in 2018 for my M3. Guess time will tell if I made a good choice !

DuneProphecy 2024-12-27 18:25

Thanks to Elon man child

DuneProphecy 2024-12-27 18:26

Model Y is the most popular model, of course its going to have more.

DuneProphecy 2024-12-27 18:26

No it's not. There are people that have already replaced the shocks and it gives similar ride.

Bangaladore 2024-12-27 18:27

I could quite easily say: Model Y is the most popular model, of course they will keep costs down by feature cutting

Blueliner95 2024-12-27 18:29

Ding ding There is probably a way he could deploy his talents in the governance realm without being incredibly annoying He didn’t

DuneProphecy 2024-12-27 18:44

We already know it has a rear LED bar which is something new. And there is a bumper camera on the manufacturer cars but might just be for testing. Hopefully we get all the details soon - I'm curious to see what they do.

Bangaladore 2024-12-27 18:44

I think that's likely, but the highland M3 refresh was supposed to have a bumper camera that never shipped.

Manitogamba 2024-12-30 19:20

I hate the front of the current model Y so this is a huge upgrade to me looks wise

Bourboniser 2025-01-01 04:19

I came from 16 years of driving 2 door Jeeps. The ride is awesome.

Bourboniser 2025-01-01 04:34

It may completely unnecessary, but I never get tired of that acceleration.

burningskyfire 2025-01-05 11:36

Nobody cares about your hate for Elon tbh

Blueliner95 2025-01-05 19:09

I don't hate him, I invested in Tesla in 2013 and I support the mission. What I don't support is his constant shit talk that, paired with his overt political activity, fuels the anti-Elon sentiment that is everywhere. It's not hate, it's exasperation. Similarly I don't hate you, but you are presumptuous and so far not at all interesting

Independent-Chip-236 2025-01-05 19:23
