From the article: Tesla appears to have officially ended its in-house Cybertruck wrap service. This move comes just two months after the automaker cut down the number of colour options for Cybertruck wraps, reducing choices from 11 colours to just 3. Although the end of this service limits personalization options for Cybertruck owners, Tesla continues to offer its wrap service for the Model 3 and Model Y. The Cybertruck, with its unique stainless steel exoskeleton, and angular, flat, and hard-edged surfaces made it the perfect candidate for a colour wrap. Since the launch of Tesla’s in-house wrap service in October 2023, it was limited to select Service Centers, and initially available only for the Model 3 and Model Y before expanding to include the Cybertruck upon its debut last year. However, despite the initial interest, the wrap service for the Cybertruck has slowly been winding down. In September, Tesla reduced the Cybertruck wrap color options from 11 to 3, retaining only Satin Rose Gold, Satin Stealth Black, and Satin Ceramic White, and priced at as much US$6,500. Now, the product has been removed from the Tesla Shop, and we were able to check with a Cybertruck owner in the US who confirmed with us the option to purchase it has also been removed from the mobile app. Tesla has not officially announced the end of their in-house Cybertruck wrap service, so we don’t know why the company decided to axe it. One contributing factor could be the limited market for it. There is still a relatively low number of Cybertrucks on the road, and the market is made even smaller when Tesla was only able to install the wraps at three Service Centers in California.
I think it's not just Cybertruck wraps that were limited to California, it's all models right?
Is it because it is so much easier to wrap flat surfaces and people started buying $500 self wrap kits?
Yeah this is what I'd wager. Most of the cost is from labor, so with flat panels, the level of knowledge and expertise required is far less. Enough that most beginners could probably tackle this with success.
Tesla was farming out the wrapping to independent shops anyways.
Most people are lazy. The wraps must not be selling well.
Lazy to save $4000? I think you can hire a handyman to do it for $500 if you are that lazy.
Probably more for something that expensive you want it done by someone who cares. Not a dude who had to crank out a bunch every day and can kick the can on defects to the service centre. …or just the color options aren’t selling vs custom
They were always sold out when I checked.
Trust me, the people spending $100k on cars don’t want the chore.
Does Tesla even do it in-house or is it like getting tint at a dealership....lowest bid dude comes in and does a bunch for them?
I’ve spent $100k on a vehicle twice, and I never let the dealer do any coatings or PPF. I always go to a professional shop. It’s cheaper and the results are better
Current participating Tesla Service Centers include West Covina, Oceanside, Costa Mesa and Santa Clara, CA. Huh, TIL that Tesla doesn’t respect Oxford Commas.
Iirc it was like $8k for the wrap Absolutely insane for a wrap on a CT. I didn’t think anyone would pay for the service, I’m surprised it lasted this long.
And, Tesla only had 3 wraps to choose from.
i see wayyy more wrapped cyber trucks than others Tesla's. Like one out of every 3 seems to be wrapped
Too many 3rd party options that do a really good job.
Because the stainless is not exactly easy to keep looking good
1 out of 3 is an underestimate in my area. At this point, I see more wrapped trucks over unwrapped. Guess no one likes the fridge look.
While I do agree with your observations, doesn't Tesla only offer like 3 color choices? Most of the wraps i senolook like custom colors or business logos anyways. Not sure how many people wanted white, black, or clear?
Or because it has come up that cybesucks get damaged underneath the wrap and they don't want the liability of installing something that then damages the car
True most I see are bespoke
True should have been like4-5K max since it's just flat panels
Barkeepers friend and windex seems to be the consensus. Feels easy, but I could be wrong.
I've seen a ton of wrapped Cybertrucks and not a single one of them was one of the in house colors. I don't think all these owners are DIYers either, so I think it's just that the local shops were charging a lot less.
I'm imagining that if enough places do it, ALL cars can get rid of their paint shop, expecting that the customer will get a 3rd party wrap. It just needs to scale up with competition keeping the prices low enough. And I'm wondering how easy it will be to wrap the cybertaxi.
You can wrap a box in minutes, the curves of a car, not so simple.
in Canada can get wrapped for 1200.00 with company logo as well can do it by self for 600.00 tops
Thats true, my point is tesla could have competed with local shops by slightly lowering costs but I see kits coming out now in high quality wrap at $500. It used to cost $2000 to wrap a car and now prices doubled so this will drive people away from pro shops when they can do same quality work for half the price of less. You could get a decent paint job for what they charge to wrap. Thats just silly thinking people will keep paying.
That has to be the reason
Wait you have a wrap service?? (Whines in British)
