This happened last year too with the Performance 3. Seems like they would be better at getting the rating so the assembly line isn’t stopped.

elysiansaurus 2024-10-29 01:17

I thought tesla didn't do model years, when did they start that again? Aka a car made December 31st is a 2024, a car made January 1st is a 2025.

Lexsteel11 2024-10-29 01:22

Man hindsight 20/20 no part of me thought “maybe I should sell some Tesla stock before this news breaks and buy it back after the panic” haha now I have to sit and watch my delivery date move back and my portfolio go down haha

DaRighDehr 2024-10-29 01:22

I believe it has to do with registered VINs

This is me right now. Ordered 16OCT, VIN 23OCT, delivery estimate has been pushed one day right for three days now. Guarantee the vehicle is on the lot right now.

Suitable_Switch5242 2024-10-29 01:41

They’ve been doing it since at least 2020. The model year generally switches over in October/November more like other manufacturers.

thebiglebowskiisfine 2024-10-29 01:51

What's with all the governmental delays with Tesla and now SpaceX recently?

Weaponizing bureaucracy against political opposition.

SarcasticNotes 2024-10-29 02:21

They’ve done it since forever.

Jbikecommuter 2024-10-29 02:24

What a joke!

EddardStank_69 2024-10-29 02:27

Nope. They’ve done it since 2020. Before that Tesla only made the “next year” model after Jan 1st of that year. The only time they reverted to making the current model in the current year was 2023; during the transition from the old model 3 to the new one. Source: Used to be in Tesla Delivery before and after 2020

SarcasticNotes 2024-10-29 02:27

They always have done model years.

EddardStank_69 2024-10-29 02:32

Obviously they have. That wasn’t what the original comment was talking about. What they were saying is they thought Tesla kept the model year the same as the manufacture year. Example a car built on Dec 31 2024 is still a 2024 model year. Tesla *used to* do that. Now a Tesla built in Oct-Dec 2024 will likely be a 2025 model year instead of a 2024

liam1902 2024-10-29 02:48

Prob is. The same thing happened with the new Model 3 (Performance, I think?) earlier this year. Customer cars were available on Tesla's lot but Tesla wasn't able to deliver them to customers until EPA officially got back to them.

Lanky-Slice-9122 2024-10-29 02:50

2025 model y is the updated model. Of course they have to pause for the EPA rating.

liam1902 2024-10-29 02:50

Was it a 1 month wait or some weeks? Wondering the same thing for other Tesla models when this happened to them as well.

liam1902 2024-10-29 02:53

If Tesla has been doing it for a long time, then they are inconsistent at it. I have a Nov 2023 Model Y and it's considered a 2023 (not 2024). It was manufactured last week of Nov I think. I've also talked to a few others that have Dec 2023 Model Y's and theirs are also 2023 (not 2024).

This has been news for a few weeks now. This isn’t something new.

YellowUnited8741 2024-10-29 03:18

I have a 12/15/2023 built MYP. It is a 2023 by VIN.

kwright88 2024-10-29 03:38

The assembly line isn't stopped.

The faa woes of starship in a different skin

lowspeed 2024-10-29 03:52

the refresh wont be later in the year?

Lanky-Slice-9122 2024-10-29 03:58

Wasn’t with highland. They released them in China around this time then in the USA on 1/1

liam1902 2024-10-29 05:08

That's incorrect. Model 3 Highland was released in the US in the middle of January or so. Also, 2025 Model Y is NOT Juniper; it is literally just the same thing as the 2024 Model Y but Tesla is updating the model year to be 2025. People have taken delivery of "2025" Model 3's and they are the exact same as the 2024 ones - literally 0 differences aside from model year updating to 2025. Until China releases Model Y Juniper, the release in the US is looking further down the line. If China releases it Dec 2024 and they start deliveries Jan 2025, then the US may get it a few months after Dec 2024 so would be sometime in Q1 2025 but maybe not right when January starts.

Lanky-Slice-9122 2024-10-29 05:24

So people have taken delivery of 2025 Model Y’s? Also what model year were the highlands when they released? Tesla doesn’t do end of year model changes I.e you’re not getting a 2025 updated model before 2025

Lafayette_Coney 2024-10-29 10:34

It’s literally not. This same thing happened with a prior Tesla. When they rush it before certification this happens. Nothing new.

Darmiejr 2024-10-29 11:18

This will all change this January.

Lexsteel11 2024-10-29 12:11

No one outside of people actively waiting for delivery were aware as no statements were made and it’s just people posting it on reddit

New-Connection-9088 2024-10-29 12:18

> So people have taken delivery of 2025 Model Y’s? I have seen some posts from users on here who have taken 2025 deliveries.

Fire69 2024-10-29 13:11

Literally not this...

OCR10 2024-10-29 13:27

No, this is not correct. They are building 2025 VINs currently.

whiteknives 2024-10-29 13:43

Can't stop the work.

Zealousideal-Sea-617 2024-10-29 14:37

I will be picking up my MYP 2025 today, so I hope this isn't true.

thales1983 2024-10-29 14:38

AWD?

Specific_Way1654 2024-10-29 17:56

why they get new tesla first make no sense

hirokimiya 2024-10-29 19:05

Just received notification from Tesla that I can schedule my delivery from Oct 31 to Nov 3. I ordered MYLR Awd on Oct 26

HolyHailss 2024-10-29 19:23

Update 29OCT, delivery scheduled for 04NOV! (had earlier options but this one worked for my schedule)

specialk45 2024-10-29 23:51

Can't stop. Won't stop.

Zealousideal-Sea-617 2024-10-30 02:28

Yes

Abject-Hunter-5220 2024-10-30 03:18

Were you able to pick it up?

jedi2155 2024-10-30 08:11

2025 Model Year is the VIN number, nothing more.

New-Connection-9088 2024-10-30 11:27

Correct.

chriscoletti 2024-10-30 12:05

Mine has been on hold for weeks—I just got a text this morning from Tesla stating the hold was lifted on my vehicle (model y built in early Oct 2024, has a 2025 vin). We’ll see!

[deleted] 2024-10-30 23:39

Yes this. We're even starting to attack Reddit. No leftist is safe anywhere anymore :)

Temporary_Animator90 2024-10-31 04:26

.

Simple-Special-1094 2024-10-31 07:31

Do they tell you the vin when you order? Seems you'd want the later VIN even if it's identical just because it's considered a newer car.  Like buying the milk with the latest date stamped on it- 😉

chriscoletti 2024-10-31 11:30

Haha totally. Yes I got the vin very soon after ordering, the wait was mostly due to the epa hold.

AlexLeKrow 2024-10-31 20:35

This will only affect ‘deliveries’ and not production. Tesla almost always has a delivery push end of quarter so this is unfortunately pretty in line with historical evidence.

[deleted] 2024-11-01 08:56

So not model Y coming soon?

Ouchthathz 2024-11-01 22:04

The hold is on Model Y AWD long range only. (Mine has been held for 3 weeks on the lot. )

Daddy-Green-Gas 2024-11-02 01:52

After today I guess because I got mine today.

Ouchthathz 2024-11-02 23:04

Did they let you get it?

Minute-Geologist-339 2025-04-05 00:07

I was supposed to pick up my 2025 model Y tomorrow but they told me they paused my delivery because it was missing a part. After a few questions they admitted that the part was a buckle on the seat belt. They said this was a problem on some model Y’s. My new delivery date is April 11th, but he could not confirm that the part will be delivered to the dealership by then. Gives me another week to reconsider my purchase.
