Thankfully that puts it out of the price range of most bolt owners /s

pursual 2024-09-18 13:37

Bolt owner here... Yeah that's steep! 😔

thewittman 2024-09-18 13:44

So unlike Ford you have to buy it?

[deleted] 2024-09-18 13:55

Ford also makes you buy it now too. It was only free for buyers for a short time. New buyers have to buy it. But third party ones can be found for $160. That’s cheap anyway.

r1ngr 2024-09-18 13:57

Is the expectation that the adapters won't be needed when the other companies begin using NACS?

Educational_Skill736 2024-09-18 13:57

do non-Tesla owners have to pay some sort of subscription service to use a supercharger?

THIESN123 2024-09-18 13:59

Warranty voided if damaged while using aftermarket

yhsong1116 2024-09-18 14:00

Up to them. Dont subscribe and pay higher fee or subscribe and pay the same price tesla owners pay

CelsiusOne 2024-09-18 14:00

I drive a bolt and didn't see any requirement for a subscription when setting up the app. The price at most of the chargers near me is 0.55/kWh though which is pricey. Not sure if that's how much Tesla owners pay with/without subscriptions.

MSTK_Burns 2024-09-18 14:00

No just the electric cost, which for tesla owners at the super charger is a reduced rate compared to other automakers at superchargers.

[deleted] 2024-09-18 14:00

Yes that's the point of NACS adoption.

4thAndLong 2024-09-18 14:04

Yeah. All 8 people who bought a Silverado EV must be annoyed.

ogdobber 2024-09-18 14:04

No but there is a subscription service thats like $12 a month that pays for itself if you deep charge 1.5 times.

timelessblur 2024-09-18 14:04

False. Stop spreading that lie. It is only void on the small sub system of the charging port if and only if they can prove that the “non-authorized” caused it directly and then the repair cost is shoved to the device manufacturer. In fords case on the one ford supply they happen to be both parts of who pays and ford would take the cost and effort to make Tesla refund them if it failed as Tesla is the manufacturer.

moonisflat 2024-09-18 14:08

The price depends on the location and time of the day.

THIESN123 2024-09-18 14:08

I’m just going off of [this](https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1836385362148463078)

[deleted] 2024-09-18 14:13

It's more than my home electricity where I live. Ergo not just the electricity cost

blainestang 2024-09-18 14:15

It’s still free to new Ford EV buyers. The deadline to request a free adapter has moved multiple times and is currently Sept 30.

[deleted] 2024-09-18 14:15

I remember when I used to be able to use Superchargers for $0.11/kwh. Those were the days

chrisblizzard 2024-09-18 14:20

The subscription option is in the app. There's pricing for tesla owners / subscribers and pricing for non-subscribers.

pinegap96 2024-09-18 14:25

Yeah that’s like their car payment

pinegap96 2024-09-18 14:27

Tesla owners don’t need a subscription. Your subscription is owning a Tesla. We do not pay that much either, it’s discounted

vita10gy 2024-09-18 14:28

_dogzilla 2024-09-18 14:31

Yes daddy

PraiseTalos66012 2024-09-18 14:31

Did you really just link a random dude on Twitter as a source? What he said isn't true, the news article he posted says nothing about voiding warranty, the gm page the article links also says nothing about voiding warranty. Also in the US the burden of proof is on the manufacturer to PROVE that the use of something aftermarket was DIRECTLY responsible for the damage.

CelsiusOne 2024-09-18 14:34

Yeah seems fair to me as a Bolt owner. In any case, my plan with this is to only use the Superchargers if I don't have other options (which unfortunately is the case in parts of northern New England where I do drive sometimes). Though I will say most of the superchargers near me are almost always practically empty when I drive by so I don't think I'll be blocking many people if I have to use one here and there.

reefine 2024-09-18 14:37

Just got my adapter from Rivian (for free) yesterday.. it was like Christmas morning opening it up. That thing is heavy and sturdy! Love that it has a locking mechanism into the car.

JC_SB 2024-09-18 14:42

GMs implementation is so clunky! Their app is straight out of the 2010s! No plug and charge? Too many buttons to press to initiate a charge.

blue10speed 2024-09-18 14:48

The app for my Cadillac Lyriq is hot freaking garbage. GM really needs to step it up.

Suitable_Switch5242 2024-09-18 14:49

Correct. Like the 2025 Ioniq 5 which has already been announced with an NACS port. That will actually come with a CCS adapter for using Electrify America etc. stations until those add NACS cables as well.

SippieCup 2024-09-18 14:53

Free supercharging for life on my cars is so underrated.

I_am_darkness 2024-09-18 14:54

Stoked that we're phasing out non-nacs. This is going to be great long term.

I_am_darkness 2024-09-18 14:55

and the wattage

Liam_M 2024-09-18 14:57

the FTC says no https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/blog/2022/07/ftc-announces-three-right-repair-cases-do-your-warranties-comply-law

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-18 15:02

But what about that one Hummer owner? Someone please think about him.

aBetterAlmore 2024-09-18 15:04

> Did you really just link a random dude on Twitter as a source? If anyone provided X/social media link as a source for a school paper, I hope that is an automatic fail.

THIESN123 2024-09-18 15:14

Great to hear

MSTK_Burns 2024-09-18 15:22

...I .. I don't even know how to respond to that. Of course it's more than your house?? If you're 60 mi away from your house and you buy a bottle of water it's going to cost significantly more than the water costs at your house. You're paying for the convenience and availablity. The situation I described is this exact situation, you're paying for the cost of the electricity plus the service fee of them distributing it to you, if you drive a GM or a Ford or anything else you're actually getting charged more for the electricity because you don't drive a Tesla. I never once said anything about your electricity cost at home, everybody has different electricity costs at home. You asked about a subscription fee. There is none for Tesla owners, as I said. Other can manufacturer owners CAN join a subscription monthly, and get the same electricity costs per kWh as Tesla owners.

timelessblur 2024-09-18 15:25

It is sometimes a valid sore. Like some dumbass statement someone made by them directly. Or a statement that the Ford CEO made like all the adapters would be free to current owners as he made the statement directly on there and as a ford rep. But on this case not so much. Hell even on the ford one it still needed the official ford release.

hutacars 2024-09-18 15:34

Basic question I can’t seem to find an answer to: can you just pay for a month and then stop, or are you required to subscribe for some longer period of time? If you can start/stop it at will, seems like a no brainer to subscribe only when you’re road tripping.

junktrunk909 2024-09-18 15:47

What's the typical premium for non Tesla owners?

TechSupportTime 2024-09-18 15:48

There's no commitment. You can subscribe and cancel at will.

Acceptable_Skill_142 2024-09-18 15:49

Next quarter GM EVs truck sales will be more than CT!?

chrisblizzard 2024-09-18 15:55

I'm not sure what the spread is, but at least at one local charger has $0.46/kWh for a member/owner and $0.60/kWh for a non-member.

junktrunk909 2024-09-18 15:57

Gotcha, thank you. That makes sense to me as fair to Tesla owners and still in line with other commercial chargers for non owners.

justvims 2024-09-18 15:59

Definitely do not use an aftermarket adapter

[deleted] 2024-09-18 16:07

I already did and it works perfectly. A2Z is the company name. Lots of people have been using them and no reported issues.

Strong_Foundation227 2024-09-18 16:10

The Mary Barra surcharge.

[deleted] 2024-09-18 16:16

Arnold will be fine

[deleted] 2024-09-18 16:17

My only concern is that there will be bigger lineups at superchargers

dubie4x8 2024-09-18 16:35

💀

JFreader 2024-09-18 16:40

That's how you do it. Usually one charge up is break even on the 30% discount for $12.99 per month,

yhsong1116 2024-09-18 17:06

0 commitments!

KyleCAV 2024-09-18 17:19

GET TO THA CHARGA!

I_am_darkness 2024-09-18 17:25

But theoretically this will cause there to be more superchargers over time.

TheKobayashiMoron 2024-09-18 17:30

They don’t need adapters at Magic Dock locations though, right? Most of the V3 I see have been switched over to Magic Dock.

Tickle_Me_Fast 2024-09-18 18:13

Sincere question, do non-Tesla vehicles pay the same rate to charge?

[deleted] 2024-09-18 18:15

It should but they've slowed down creation of superchargers over the years

ModeI3 2024-09-18 18:35

Why is it 17,000 and not all of them?

ModeI3 2024-09-18 18:36

Yes, obviously lol

KeyboardGunner 2024-09-18 18:50

GMs app is the worst. Totally useless without an OnStar subscription 😡

RegularRandomZ 2024-09-18 18:58

Looking at [supercharge.info](https://supercharge.info) \[[charts](https://supercharge.info/charts)\] in general it's only slowed down a bit since April, unsurprisingly, but they are still adding them.

RegularRandomZ 2024-09-18 19:02

Correct

RegularRandomZ 2024-09-18 19:09

Requires V3 or newer \[they can't use V2\]. Presumably Tesla also didn't open the busiest locations with no capacity to spare

savageotter 2024-09-18 19:19

Those were all in progress. The better question will be after the effects of the layoffs start to show. Maybe a year or so from now.

orTodd 2024-09-18 19:33

I’ve found third party ones stuck on the Tesla charger cord three times. The Ford one has a manual unlock latch but these (unsure of the brand) don’t for some reason.

RegularRandomZ 2024-09-18 19:48

For sure, I responding to the "slowed over the years" point. As to what Elon's plans are and the impact of the re-org, yes we'll have to wait and see. Regardless, Tesla's own vehicle production has always been more of the issue for charger demand than non-Tesla usage.

BikebutnotBeast 2024-09-18 19:49

[AUGHUJHHAUGHHHAUGH!](https://youtu.be/AZTFdO4a_ew?si=XWEKsXNXPePEyjYR)

[deleted] 2024-09-18 19:53

Well he fired the entire supercharger team back then (500 people) so who knows what the future will look like

[deleted] 2024-09-18 20:08

I almost never charge at a super charger and charge at home 99.9% of the time. Only time I used the super chargers were during a road trip. Didn’t have a single issue with the third party charger. I would have preferred to use Fords but it hasn’t been shipped to me yet. That delay is due to Elon firing the entire supercharging team as they had contracts to manufacture the adapters which were put on hold for a few months.

Ok-Attention2882 2024-09-18 20:47

FYI ElectrifyAmerica is the same way. Very reasonable and low break-even point

lawlietskyy 2024-09-18 20:53

💀💀

sudrapp 2024-09-18 20:58

It's on average 30% higher rate but free to use the charger Or you can pay a monthly fee of $13 and pay the same rate as Tesla owners

R-EDDIT 2024-09-18 21:15

Linking an X post is fine if the person has a blue checkbox. /S

R-EDDIT 2024-09-18 21:24

It really could stagnate for years. The Berkeley Heights supercharger was installed July 2023, "just" waiting for a transformer. No sign of activity in over 18 months is crazy.

R-EDDIT 2024-09-18 21:27

If I had free supercharging, I'd still charge at home over night. Can't beat home charging for convenience.

SippieCup 2024-09-18 21:59

oh i do. but its also nice for when I want to just go for a walk on my way home.

SAAA2011 2024-09-18 22:05

I won't lie, I bought it without really giving it much thought.

Tickle_Me_Fast 2024-09-18 22:10

Thank you!

a6c6 2024-09-18 22:27

I work in project management and an 18 month lead time on a transformer is absolutely not unusual. There is a shortage

Dstrongest 2024-09-18 23:28

I buy Tesla , from what I’ve heard , just jacked up the rates on super charges . Now I know why

Dstrongest 2024-09-18 23:30

I think you do now . Not sure if the rates went up for everyone or just non Tesla cars

unkilbeeg 2024-09-18 23:35

Crying in California. I have never been to a supercharger that was as expensive as my home electricity cost. Not even in California. I would supercharge instead of charging at home, except the cost to drive to the supercharger would eat up my savings, and the nearest supercharger is always impacted. "You should consider trying a supercharger that is less busy."

pinegap96 2024-09-19 00:08

I have never paid anything remotely close to $0.55 per kWh. My closest charger is still at $0.44 and that’s astronomically high. I’m used to paying $0.26-$0.35 in Colorado. I’m located in CA temporarily where energy costs are absurd

TapeDeck_ 2024-09-19 00:46

Well, also all of us Bolt owners that will take up two spots charging at 50kW...

[deleted] 2024-09-19 00:51

Then demand Tesla install more superchargers.

MSTK_Burns 2024-09-19 00:55

Oh my God that is sad... Home for me is .08$/kWh, superchargers are like .42

unkilbeeg 2024-09-19 01:11

Superchargers are similar. Off-peak at home is around $0.46, peak is closer to $0.60.

pickerin 2024-09-19 01:25

Is there anything in this article that’s true? There are no adapters for sale in the myGMC app nor online. There is no where in the myGMC app to sign up or into a SuperCharger network. Yet all of this is supposed to be available “today”.

Glad_Departure_4598 2024-09-19 02:11

There are some instructions on other GM forums on how to get the adapter via the app. Seems to be a special path…

JFreader 2024-09-19 03:54

Except small and few locations compared to Tesla.

kobachi 2024-09-19 10:25

Yeah this goes all the way back to Covid supply chain challenges

Anonymustafar 2024-09-19 13:01

Happy for the non-Tesla owners, but damn in my city the superchargers are already at capacity. This does not bode well.

TheRealWhoMe 2024-09-19 13:21

Some people will still wait in lines at EA if they got free charging when they bought their car.

LouBrown 2024-09-19 14:37

Anyone is free to make their own NACS compatible charger now, though. At some point companies other than Tesla will have to enter the fray.

timelessblur 2024-09-19 15:37

Even the Ford one which is made by Tesla gets stuck and it is a pretty tight fit.

[deleted] 2024-09-19 16:56

Sure but their motivation is far less than tesla’s to build them

thewittman 2024-09-19 20:10

Ow man, trucks are so expensive these days.

thewittman 2024-09-19 20:11

Ah, many people are talking about the wait times. If it's not free why wait just buy it 3rd party.

VideoGameJumanji 2024-09-20 15:53

Theoretically yes.  Non-theoretically he just fired the entire supercharger team and we have no idea what that team looks like now.

VideoGameJumanji 2024-09-20 15:57

They can fully utilize the power of the supercharger and charge at a blistering 5kW, that's like L4 for a bolt.  Marginally better than sticking two double As into their charge port

VideoGameJumanji 2024-09-20 16:02

That's great, but I still can't imagine how uncomfortable and confrontational people at Superchargers are going to be when you have to occupy two stalls, or when you have to block and empty stall because you need the adjacent one to be free.  There's a 40 car SC near me and non of the stalls are towing stalls. It's crazy to me that they are still putting the port on the wrong side for the R2

reefine 2024-09-20 16:04

I really don't care what people think. I am going to do what I need to charge.

VideoGameJumanji 2024-09-20 16:56

Im not judging you, I'm just saying even in a tesla I've had numerous bad experiences with other Tesla drivers speeding past me, being aggressive over charging.  Factoring in using two stalls is rough.   Definitely if you have a supercharger with a towing stall that solves your problem because you can position your car with lots of freedom without issue for space

Aranfiy 2024-09-21 07:27

Hello!

Aranfiy 2024-09-21 07:33

Literally can’t find the link to buy the adapter

[deleted] 2024-09-21 17:02

Yes, obviously. I'm arguing that it's more than just the electricity cost and I agree that it should be. Look at the content I replied to before you put your foot in your mouth

MrNerd82 2024-09-25 08:33

app update/reinstall might help. I only say might because GM's app is hot garbage (been that way 10+ years)
