Model Y Juniper Window Tint Advice Needed

dastriderman | 2026-03-12 19:52 | 9 views

Hey guys - picking up a '26 Model Y Juniper this weekend and plan on tinting all around + windshield (no sunroof) - gathered a good number of quotes from installers nearby and have narrowed my choices to the below. Wanted to hear from you guys before making the decision in terms of best value for the money and which tint may be the best for this particular car. The pricing reflects the HCOL market (SF Bay Area). Main priority is privacy and heat reduction - likely to get 5-15% on windows and \~50% WS. Thanks in advance! https://preview.redd.it/509o41rm5oog1.png?width=776&format=png&auto=webp&s=a766111174ad369904c461bc6b89caaf6018a603 |Film|Windows|Windshield|Total|Cash Discount|OTD| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |3M CIR Windows + Crystalline Windshield|400|325|725|(25)|700| |Llumar IRX|600|250|850|(100)|750| |XPEL Prime XR|480|280|760|(40)|720|

Tesla, in-app, allows you to purchase 3M XPEL and XPEL+ film, at a fixed price that includes installation and any percentage tint. The pro of going through Tesla is that it includes free film replacement should your glass have to be replaced due to a manufacturer defect. Here is a screenshot of pricing for XPEL+ tint. I too live in a HCOL area and Tesla's prices were in line with what the local shops were charging. https://preview.redd.it/2moiclsp7oog1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d36e4777e8170f59db2bf2449bc3e362b8a003b0

I checked the tint offerings thru the app as well and the rates were ~100-200$ higher for Xpel XR/Plus vs local shops. Trying to gauge the community’s thoughts on the films I listed to see if theres any feedback/experience with them. Did you happen to go thru Tesla for Xpel, if so which one and how do you like it?

I just paid $600 for all windows except the windshield.. Xpel but I’m not sure which one. So that price is decent. Especially if they are gonna warranty the glass

I have a 24 Model S and got XPEL+ via Tesla. My main reason was to block the high heat transfer coming into my car. As in some days it was so hot, that I could feel the heat on my head coming from the roof (which comes tinted from the factory) I went with XPEL+ due to its high heat blocking properties, and tinted all of my windows woth the state maximums (50% in the front, 35% in the back), and went with 70% for the windshield and roof as I did not want to risk making it so dark that I have trouble driving at night or in garages, and also wanted to still be able to see the sky at night. The tint works really well for heat rejection and I no longer have issues feeling heat while driving on hot sunny days. The car still heats up when parked and unattended in the sun, but I noticed that cabin protection does not come on as frequently, especially in the winter. In terms of privacy, when outside the car looking in, the 35% tint in my back windows makes it so you can barely see anything in the back seat. The 50% tint still let's you see into the car, and the 70% tinted windshield looks just like an untinted windshield. I note that the Model S door windows do not come with any factory tint, whereas it is my understanding that Model Y has factory tint on the rear windows, so keep this in mind when deciding on tint. As far as my decision to purchase tint through Tesla, it was an easy process and I would do it again. After paying for the tint, you just call one of the providers listed by Tesla, and schedule you appointment. Then it was just a matter of dropping off my car, selecting my tint, and picking it up at the end of the day. No money exchanged hands as Tesla handled all of that.

I don't need a "duh" but I assume you know the law says your front side windows and windshield can't be that dark?

dastriderman 2026-03-12 21:09

Yes i assume the risks

I got mine LLumar CTX on all windows except front windshield (LLumar Air) for $600 in the Bay Area

dastriderman 2026-03-12 22:23

So CTX + Air (Windshield) altogether for $600? Thats pretty good i think?

LightxDarkness93 2026-03-12 22:25

Yeep.

XR+ is the gold standard, doing it through the tesla app means you'll have an easy time replacing it if something happens to your windows.

I wasn’t happy with 45 on the windshield. You can tell it’s there but does nothing as far as tint goes. Sun and headlights still suck, no more privacy than clear. I paid twice to go darker, 20% to match the front windows and I love It

I think you should get the sunroof tinted too. It does helps in the summer. The places you went to, I hope they show some Teslas that they were working on. I have XPEL.

Those are all good films. Always go with the better installer and forget about the price.
