Model Y - FSD from Pleasant Hill to Oakland CA

Electrical-Scale4627 | 2026-03-10 12:24 | 10 views

Hi, planning to buy a model Y for my wife. She drives a Lexus gas NX300 now. Her go-to workplace (hospitals) would be around Oakland. Usually do you guys switch on FSD from home or once you are on the freeway so there are no merging issues in FSD? Please guide.

HW4 FSD literally lets you select the destination in the navigation system, and start the drive from there.

Merging is great these days. It'll drive off your driveway into a space at her work. She can, if preferred, turn it on once on the freeway.

I tend to switch it on as soon as I pull out of my townhouse complex, which is a very tricky exit, then I'll switch it off one more time to get on the freeway, which is also a very tricky on-ramp and has a horrible traffic pattern, but once I get past that it's on 100% of the rest of the drive, which is 35 miles. It will change lanes as needed and will get off the freeway no problems, then drive into my work parking lot where I let it autopark in the space I pick.

I almost never drive. Set a destination the moment I get in and just watch the rest. These days it even parks itself.
