Cameras look like this when I use my turn signal

YT_Tyflow | 2026-03-09 21:38 | 65 views

Anything I can do/get to cover the lights? Ruining my vision every time I use the cameras at night

Not normal. What do your cameras look like, are they stock/the stock housing?

turns2stone 2026-03-09 22:04

Assuming your car is a 2018-2020 Model 3, this is a normal/known behavior.

M3tl 2026-03-09 22:07

normal for 2020 and older. mine does the same. the side signal has little holes that leak light that they moved/got rid of

shoqman 2026-03-09 22:08

Yes they do.

vypergts 2026-03-09 22:09

First gen cameras. Order replacements and have service install them. It was like $200 a few years ago.

YT_Tyflow 2026-03-09 22:10

2018

DeathBlade94 2026-03-09 22:10

This is normal for 2020 or older.

YT_Tyflow 2026-03-09 22:10

Ima just get electrical tape and cover the lights

izzeo 2026-03-09 22:11

This was a known problem from a few years back. You can get them replaced, I think. If not, there is a way to fix them at home - I don't trust the fix too much, but there isa fix: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF9mb-Di9CU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF9mb-Di9CU)

DeathBlade94 2026-03-09 22:11

I upgraded my 2020 with the newer cameras to get rid of that. Not bad cost wise using second hand parts. Plug and play as long as you get the proper cameras.

turns2stone 2026-03-09 22:14

That won't fix. The turn signals bleed from the inside of the enclosure to the camera sensor.

OneExhaustedFather_ 2026-03-09 22:17

You can install the latest version of the Repeaters and it fixes the issue. This is at customer expense.

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-03-09 22:19

There’s an updated camera. It’s a known problem with the indicator light pipe on early repeater cameras. Not a warrantable repair but you can buy the updated ones to fix the issue.

YT_Tyflow 2026-03-09 22:21

How much?

ippleing 2026-03-09 22:25

Just FYI OP... I've done this on 2 different cars. The part numbers are identical for 2018-2023, other than the last character. Anything 'D' and above will not cause this glare, you want D or above. Also you CAN mix and match between the 2 repeaters. IE, a G and D variant will work together. Beware buying used ones, as the tabs break easily upon removal and many used units will have broken tabs.

drahgon 2026-03-09 22:28

Does this affect self-driving I'm pretty sure my model y 2020 has this

WindowOk9882 2026-03-09 22:29

I got two cameras off a wrecked 2023 tesla and swapped them out myself, took 10 minutes.

YT_Tyflow 2026-03-09 22:36

Damn

OutrageousCandidate4 2026-03-09 22:39

You might be in the upside down. Have you been kidnapped recently? Perhaps by an extradimensional entity with a flower for a head?

variablenyne 2026-03-09 22:42

Yep, normal. You *could* buy a set of new ones from the service center, last I checked they were like $160 a pop. The new ones don't have this issue

Sceptz 2026-03-09 22:51

Has the Supercharger network expanded into the Upside Down yet? If you ask me, aside from the high risk of disembowlment, no Supercharger network is probably the biggest reason I don't take my EV there.

markbraggs 2026-03-09 22:57

100%. I did a retrofit years back and it fixed it. Pricey though.

Fidget808 2026-03-09 22:58

This is normal. The camera picks up the signal light.

variablenyne 2026-03-09 22:59

One of these went out on my car so I had to replace it. Bothers the hell out of me that one has the turn signal glare while the other doesn't. I'm gonna have to do the other one too atp

OutrageousCandidate4 2026-03-09 23:23

If you use bio defense mode I think you can get by with the breathing conditions

TaBioN777 2026-03-09 23:27

I have a 2021 and it does the same!

turns2stone 2026-03-09 23:48

It shouldn't unless you have a very early 2021 build.

Dj_Broke 2026-03-09 23:48

FYI I had these upgraded iny 2018 m3 and mobile service just pried them out in 60 seconds breaking the clips and then connected the new ones and popped them in. It took them like 3 min. I wish I'd have just ordered the parts and done it myself.

gxpls3 2026-03-10 00:02

Lens cleaner wipe will help reduce the glare.

crittermd 2026-03-10 00:40

There is a diy fix…. But it’s not for the faint of heart- have to drill into camera housing, add black glue- but it sure doesn’t look easy and while I do a lot of things- watching the video made me say… yeah- glare ain’t too bad. However if you wanted to give it a go https://youtu.be/_BUPsjguqdY?si=MAO7GLmrEx3idAuU

c0nstantGardener 2026-03-10 01:39

Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

Faile-Bashere 2026-03-10 03:43

I did the retrofit back in the day. Worth it.

PurNrG 2026-03-10 03:46

Same, and mine is an early (11/20) Fremont build

LordFly88 2026-03-10 04:18

Facebook marketplace, I picked up a pair for $200. So much nicer at night. Plus i like the black more than the chrome.

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-03-10 06:26

No idea. You’ll have to request it. Start an appointment and see what they say. Mobile service could come out and do it if you weren’t up for swapping yourself.

INDOORSMORE 2026-03-10 09:51

Its probably the chrome covers on the repeaters?

ManyPossession8767 2026-03-10 11:41

Is this retrofit available? I tried to do this a couple years ago and the local service center said that Tesla stopped doing them. It’s so hard to figure out what is available with Tesla because they have so many changes.

TaBioN777 2026-03-10 12:17

I think I have the early build because it’s not an LRP battery.

Rschmidt79 2026-03-10 12:29

My 2021 model did the same, paid for replacement for a newer model kamera without this problem.

lonestarbrownboi 2026-03-10 12:44

Are the replacement ones chrome or black? I have all the chrome accents on my 2019 so would prefer not to have the black ones that all the new ones have lol

Effective-Antelope47 2026-03-10 14:49

Can testify. And I remember one side was worse than the other, but can't remember which side was worse.

DickieLJO 2026-03-10 16:16

Is it possible to swap the chrome over from the gen. 1 to the updated black housing?

taylorlightfoot 2026-03-10 16:56

Faulty design. Tesla has redesigned the cameras since. I was able to get one replaced due to falling off chrome trim and the other replaced as a favor at Tesla body shop after complaining about their atrocious service and inability to listen to me about the issues and get everything fixed on one attempt.

variablenyne 2026-03-11 03:27

I don't know if they do the service themselves, but it's super easy to replace yourself with a YouTube tutorial. When I picked up my replacement from the service center I installed it myself right there in their parking lot in ~15 minutes

Demokrit_Atom 2026-03-11 09:35

Interesting my M3 2021 has the same problem so not only 2020 models can have this issue

Dildo_ExFlipper 2026-03-11 14:12

What can I search to find a replacement?

ManyPossession8767 2026-03-11 18:04

Really? They will just sell me the part and then I can put it into myself? I’ll have to check out that YouTube. Those old repeater cameras are awful with glare.

variablenyne 2026-03-11 21:10

That's how it worked for me. I did mine just before the EPC expansion so I just did a service ticket and asked for the specific part, showed up to the service center, hit "pay" on my phone and they handed me the part. I've had them ship things out to me before too.

variablenyne 2026-03-11 21:25

The left and right repeater cameras

rygel_fievel 2026-03-12 06:26

You can find them on eBay for about $60/ea.
