Interested in this also, although moreso from an FSD perspective. I have octogenarian parents in a similar situation (new Model 3 w/ FSD). Also a 2-car garage. The door opening and available parking space is wide, but dad's trying to "coax" the car into a specific position. He's even placed white tape on the garage floor in an effort to guide car into a parking space. So far it seems to be ignoring it.

I’ve never managed to get dumb summon to pull into a garage correctly, it pulls in about halfway then gives up. Pulls out just fine though.

I wish we could also designate which side of the driveway to pull into. Mine likes to pull into side I need to leave empty for my wife to get into the garage.

My parents had a much bigger vehicle, a Genesis GV80 which they traded in for the MY. The GV80 had no problem pulling in/out of the garage with the key fob.

My trick is I have a MyQ Garage Door Opener that the car opens automatically on approach and I set the Arrival Option to Driveway and it just parks itself all the way into the garage.

This, with my narrow one-car garage (need to fold mirrors to enter). From my 2018 Model 3 to the 2021 Model Y, through every update that I tested it on.

I only use dumb summon to move the car directly forward and backward after I’ve first parked the car in the garage myself. Or, rather, when I want to use the garage as a garage.
I’ve used FSD’s auto park into the garage with marginal success*, but it’s not as straight and careful as I’d prefer. So, more speed and careful maneuvering, I’ll do myself.

*requires white out yellow lines like a common parking space and have to pause long enough for it to recognize the lines. Oh, also, it’s sometimes blinded by the sun and can’t see the markings. Marginal at best. But, seriously, it has cameras all the way around. If you can’t park it in a tight space with so much more visibility than your own head has, then you probably shouldn’t be parking in a tight spot.

Don't use summon to drive in/out of garage. Summon uses old FSD model and is pretty dumb as you noticed, so the moment it sees any obstacles, it goes into panic mode and stops. Just drive manually into the garage. I have a tight garage and if I need to park and have passengers in my car, I ask them to get out while still in the driveway and then proceed to park, so there's more space on the left for me to open door and exit without any issue.
Also, when car learns where the charging spot is located, your parents can select 'charging' at the parking option for home and the car would even drive into the garage by itself.

Summon is definitely beta, would not recommend to non advanced users. The risk/reward is not worth it yet

FSD 14 (which should shold have with a new vehicle) can fully park in your garage for you. Set your "home" as the GPS location while currently parked in the garage. There's a choice for the navigation how for "driveway" that you need to set. And I setup MyQ to open my garage when it detects me getting close. My car navigates up the driveway, waits for the garage door to finish open and very closely but successfully fully pulls into the attached garage.

Dumb summon is very hit or miss. Sometimes it just doesn't want to pull in. Used it every week for years on a hw3 car for the same use.

Based on the responses it looks like the basic function of pulling in/out of the garage is still work in progress.
Odd.... this is like the smartest kid in the class who has trouble tying his shoelaces.

Thank you for this post. My octogenarian parents also bought Model Y last week. Moving up here this week. We have MY to get acquainted before they arrive. Turning an old barn into a garage for them to park in there and charge. So lots of things going on.

When the fsd updates it will pull in and out the garage without problem. I use my own garage door opener, and the car will creep up to the door until it is fully open and then pull in. No lines, no tape. To be honest wasn’t expecting it the first time.

14.2.2.5. My garage does not have a lot space, the floor is dirty still from the winter, and my wife parks on an angle to give herself more room to open her door. Tesla just pulls itself in. I’ve only tried the “dumb summons” once in a parking lot, and it was more frustrating than helpful.

Ah. Could take up to a week or two to do its first update. The new ones are all delivered with V13. Make sure you leave it connected to WiFi when it’s at home.

Does it pull itself in after you get out of the car (driverless)?
The procedure here would be is to stop short of the door and let the passenger side occupants out because that side is tight against the garage wall, then have the MY drive itself to the garage.
