Lexus 2026 NX 350H sports VS Tesla awd Y reliability
Has anyone changed from Lexus cars to Tesla and been as happy with reliability? Service etc.

Never owned a Lexus but never had any problems with reliability with Tesla. I’m not sure what comparison you’re looking for but Tesla has never tried to sell me on an under hood and gas tanking cleaning
My wife has a 2017 RX450h and I have a 2023 MY. Both are great vehicles and have been very reliable. But the Lexus still requires regular maintenance like oil changes and brakes. My MY has never seen a service center and I've done nothing besides put windshield washer fluid into it. I've got 53k miles on it and I ran a battery health test yesterday - still at 90%.
I didn’t own a Lexus but had Toyotas. Our last RAV4 Prime had issues with infotainment, USB port and the side mirror which were dealt with under warranty. The dealership also kept overfilling the oil during our 5k/10k/15k (two of those I paid since it’s not covered under Toyota’s complimentary oil changes) so I ended up doing it myself instead. Our Model Y had black screen issues when not used for a while, and auto park kept acting up on parallel parking. Also had to get 2 TPMS sensors go bad. All of them resolved under warranty. I think both brands have their kinks. Just depends if you’re lucky with the car you get.
That's true.
That's good to hear.
I know the upsell is kind of crazy
Tesla’s generally have proven to be pretty reliable when compared to the majority of other manufacturers. Very few major issues. More small things here and there. For example, in my Tesla I’ve had to replace a USB port and some panel alignment issues. Very small in the grand scheme. Something to consider is that all new Teslas come with a 4 year bumper-to-bumper warranty, which is pretty rare for the industry. Some peace of mind there. You can also extend it to 6 yrs for like $2k. Generally speaking there are a lot less things to go wrong with a Tesla compared to any ICE vehicle.
Lexus and Toyota are almost always at the top of reliability ratings. Teslas, not so much. Individuals will have different experiences but the odds favor Lexus and Toyota. That said, I had a Rav4 Prime and gave serious thought to trading it in for a Lexus RX450h+ but Tesla's self-driving won out in the end so here I am with a new Model Y and so far couldn't be happier. FSD is a life changer. I hope it doesn't have any problems and I'll be very pissed off if it does, but I knew what I was getting into and decided to take the chance. My Toyota did have constant infotainment issues that were never fixed and the struts that open and close the rear hatch failed but it never had any major breakdowns. The battery degradation was pretty disappointing though, although not too far off from most EVs and PHEVs. It's just that the range was so short that it was very easy to end up having to do two full charge cycles a day, which is not good for any kind of EV battery. The Lexus you're looking at is a standard hybrid so it's basically just like driving a regular gas car, just with slightly better mpg. It doesn't compare to a full EV with self driving.
I have a Toyota Avalon, and I bought a m3Lr last year. The difference is like driving from a couch to driving in a real cockpit that accelerates faster than most commercial sports cars. It just feels different.
My wife has a 19 Camry and I have a 24 MYP. I've had mine for about a year. In that span, she's had 2 oil changes (5-6k miles). Meanwhile I've had to do nothing and I had put more miles on than she did (mainly because of the roadtrips we've taken). Long term, you'll definitely spend less on maintenance. As far as reliability, havent own a lesus but toyota's, and they've been pretty much reliable but again, regular maintenance I think is the deal breaker for me.
I just sold my 2024 NX350H Luxury to buy the 2026 MY Premium. The 350H was great, but being a low-mileage, short-trip driver I had nothing but trouble keeping the 12v battery healthy. Pain in the ass being tied to a battery trickle charger. Otherwise, plenty of things I do miss about the Lexus, but FSD makes up for it.
We had a 2021 Lexus RX350, which was a great car. It had every bell & whistle that could be added, but when we drove a Model Y with FSD on May 11, 2025, the RX350 was gone within 8 weeks (sold it to a friend). If I could get FSD on a Lexus, I would in a heart beat, but I cannot, thus we drive a Model Y 1200 miles per month.
Well you've had it almost a year so I guess you have not had any issues with the model Y? I know, still love Lexus but the Tesla seems to be so much ahead of the times.
Yes, the lexus makes a great car. I'm sure they will one day catch up with the tech aspect.
I know it's like rolling the dice. And hopefully you win.
went from RX350 to Model Y in August of last year, Lexus felt like an antique in comparison.
No on the Lexus but our Y has 35k miles on it and the last time it was at the service center was the day we picked it up. No issues or maintenance in 3 years other than filling up the windshield washer fluid.
By the time my Tesla Model Y hit 80k miles it cost more in repairs than my gen 2 Prius in 150k+ miles and over 15 years.
Really what repairs did you need on the Tesla?
The most expensive one was the heat pump compressor sailing and destroying the supermanifold. It failed last winter 200 miles from home and there’s no defroster without it. (Over $3k) Less expensive, but also a weather safety issue, was when the wiper arm broke so I couldn’t use windshield wipers until I replaced that part. It’s also starting to rust where the liftgate contacts the taillights, but I haven’t had that looked at yet. They closed the nearby service center so it’s 100 miles of driving to get things looked at and they stopped providing loaners.
That doesn't sound too good. What year Tesla do you have? It's funny everyone says no repairs compared to a regular car.
