Loaner car when car in for service

Varna16 | 2026-03-08 04:13 | 9 views

Hi All! My car, model y, will be in the shop for 3 days. Tesla Service are telling me that they’ll give me a loaner car only if there’s one available. It seems cheap that they won’t figure out a loaner car for me even if it’s a rental. Has anyone had a problem getting a loaner car?

I was told this today too… best to get booked the earliest slot available even though it might still not guarantee the loaner - wishing both of us luck!

No, no one in my family has ever received one.

Loaners are first come first serve- they gave me Uber credits when they had my car for 4 days but this was back mid pandemic when no cars were available at a very busy service center. I went to a newer less busy center last month and was able to get a loaner model 3 by being one of the first appts that day.

At my last service, I was advised that they didn’t have any loaners. I told them I’d take a Cybertruck, and they seemed shocked and said “oh!, I can get you one of those.” So, maybe a possibility in your situation if you’re open to it.

At mine they would probably prioritize a loaner for you since it’s a long repair. I had my vehicle at the collision center and they were trying to get it done before they closed for Christmas. They told me it would be done that day so I showed up late in the afternoon before I got confirmation. Paint had not dried so they immediately put me in a loaner that someone had just brought back for the two days they were going to be closed for holidays. It wasn’t a huge deal to me since I could borrow a family vehicle if needed but it did give me a bit more independence. I’ve also had times at the service center where I’ve asked for a loaner, they refused, then I sat there for four hours because repairs took longer than expected and watched them hand out loaner after loaner, including someone there for a tire rotation. Last time I went in to get a window chip fixed (I have their windshield insurance) and was going to wait since I knew it wouldn’t be more than 30 minutes. But it turns out even if you have a glass appointment, they won’t necessarily have a glass person on schedule 🤦‍♀️ so I got a loaner and came back later.

Welcome to Tesla service. Figure out your own ride peasant! There's no guarantee they'll have a loaner so don't plan on getting one. They used to give out Uber credits, but they got rid of that several years ago. Here's a hint, see if the location is offering extended test drives on a new car.
