You should be able to double tap the wiper button to turn them down.

You should have a wiper stalk

KyleWilson_ 2026-03-07 21:32

I actually JUST figured out that you can hit the wiper button on the steering wheel and then use the scroll to adjust the speed or turn off the wipers though.

ClumpOfCheese 2026-03-07 21:33

Does the scroll wheel not work to do that?

anothercynic2112 2026-03-07 21:36

I should be taller and better looking

kppolich 2026-03-07 21:36

Yeah program one of the scroll wheels so you can hold down, then adjust the speed.

TissueAndLube 2026-03-07 21:37

It took you how long?

cane_stanco 2026-03-07 21:37

It’s easy enough to use the scroll wheel after pressing the wiper button. If you really want one button functionality, you can use voice commands to adjust the wipers.

Anand999 2026-03-07 21:38

You should have functioning auto wipers that don't need to be constantly messed with like 95% of other cars.

ehaaams 2026-03-07 21:39

I hit the button and they go faster and then I need to look over at the screen and scroll down to get them to stop. It would literally just be so much more convenient to me to just tap to go up and double tap to go down lol

VeeYarr 2026-03-07 21:41

What would be really nice is if you could double press to set the timing interval to the time between your button presses

Difficult-Arm384 2026-03-07 21:43

Why do you mean? You hit the button to do a single wipe - you can use the scroll wheel to adjust from Off to Auto to Manual modes. Hitting the button does not make them “go faster”.

lotofry 2026-03-07 21:43

I don’t like that hitting the wiper button automatically increases wiper speed if you’re not in off or auto. If you hit it, it should then just enable scroll to adjust like it did before.

itshukokay 2026-03-07 21:45

You can press the wiper button and scroll wheel

sexaddic 2026-03-07 21:47

You can use voice in addition to scroll wheel

ehaaams 2026-03-07 21:48

If I have them set to 1 or 2 for example and I click the button again, they go up to the next level. So they literally do start going faster but I have to click the button to turn them down. So they essentially go up in speed before I can use the scroll wheel to turn it down. Does that make sense?

ehaaams 2026-03-07 21:49

Yes I’m aware lol. It’s not nearly as convenient

No-Pilot5559 2026-03-07 21:50

I never knew that either until reading this so

ehaaams 2026-03-07 21:50

Thank you!! Finally someone who seems to understand part of my frustration. I hate that the speed picks up if I want to turn it down

Difficult-Arm384 2026-03-07 21:55

No - the wipe button on the stalk/steering wheel does not move the speed to the next level. It literally only does a single wipe, and temporarily opens the wiper settings so you can adjust with the scroll wheel.

Jimi-K-101 2026-03-07 21:58

To be fair I've had 5 cars with auto wipers now, and I've never been able to leave them in auto all the time. I prefer standard wipers at this point.

someusername5873 2026-03-07 22:10

I think you can also use the voice button to just tell the car to decrease the speed of the wipers. I've done it before to turn off the wipers but I'm not completely sure if you can also do it to decrease the speed. Give it a try.

ehaaams 2026-03-07 22:13

Yes, if it is on off or auto, Not in you’re already set at a certain speed.

javawizard 2026-03-07 22:13

Yes it does. Have you tried it on a Tesla with any sort of recent firmware? If the wiper speed is set to any of the manual speeds (i.e. not "auto" or "off"), then tapping the wiper button does a single wipe *and* bumps the speed up by one, at least in my Model Y. They introduced that in a software update about a year ago. It drives me nuts; I would love to go back to having that button just do a single wipe.

PresentationSome2427 2026-03-07 22:17

It's by far the worst aspect of owning a tesla. Just give me a wiper control stalk.

Inevitable_Ad_711 2026-03-07 22:18

My Bolt EUV's auto wipers suck donkey balls. Assuming Tesla's is worse

flekinjos 2026-03-07 22:23

you can press it rapidly several times. it will toggle to the fastest speed with every press, and then continue going down to lowest speed if you continue pressing it.

Difficult-Arm384 2026-03-07 22:25

My S is only a few months old and doesn’t do this; neither did my 2025 Model X. My old Ys didn’t do this either, but that was pre Juniper. Strange.

mrandr01d 2026-03-07 22:27

The difference is you're hopeless, but op's gripe can be changed by a design decision.

mrandr01d 2026-03-07 22:29

You've gotta be trolling man. My '23 m3 increases the speed when you click the stalk button if you're not set to auto.

mrandr01d 2026-03-07 22:30

I do miss the twisty thing on the stalk of my old Buick for the wipers.

KyleWilson_ 2026-03-07 22:30

Yes! I picked up a new model 3 back in September and I’m in Southern California, so I haven’t had to use it a ton so far. Probably why it took me so long.

mrandr01d 2026-03-07 22:31

I've been saying this for so long lol. It'll never happen. Auto should learn from the users' inputs and copy that, like Android's automatic screen brightness model does.

dantodd 2026-03-07 22:33

What is the point in denigrating someone who is willing to learn?

AJHenderson 2026-03-07 22:40

Just tap it and then scroll the wheel up or down. This will control the speed for you.

AJHenderson 2026-03-07 22:41

Just use the scroll wheel after pushing the button.

cwhiterun 2026-03-07 22:41

It’s just weird because they use the opposite scroll wheel than the one that makes sense for it.

AJHenderson 2026-03-07 22:42

A surprising number of people do not know this. I taught my parents about it about 6 months after they got their MYLR.

pieterbos 2026-03-07 22:48

Highland model 3 does change speed of wipers when set to manual with that button. Up till you press it often enough to reach four, then down to one, up again etc.

Mr_Poink 2026-03-07 22:49

We just need wipers that work well. No stupid containments or work arounds

WEZANGO 2026-03-07 23:05

My previous A4 and C-Class both had great automatic wipers. I never even had to think about the existence of wiper stalks. Considering how often it starts and stops raining here in Ireland, I’d say that’s a pretty darn good indicator.

4kVHS 2026-03-07 23:46

Right hand to press wiper button and left hand to use the left scroll wheel to adjust it. It’s really stupid you can’t use the right school wheel so it’s at least controllable with one hand.

Khelics 2026-03-08 00:16

Technically plastic surgery does exist so they have a design decision too 😭

Away-Scar7754 2026-03-08 01:18

Great 💡

TheyCallMeSuperChunk 2026-03-08 01:38

After you're in manual mode, a tap will make the speed go up by one, but if you tap multiple times and you reach the max, it starts going down by one with each tap, until you get to the slowest, then it starts going back up.. and on and on.. I find it easiest to just use the scroll wheel

TheyCallMeSuperChunk 2026-03-08 01:39

I agreed with this until we got scroll wheel controls.

soggy_mattress 2026-03-08 02:12

Eh, precedent of right scroll wheel being autopilot things kinda ruined that. Think about it, you don't really want the button that drives the car to sometimes not drive the car lol

soggy_mattress 2026-03-08 02:14

Kinda but not really... the left scroll wheel is the multi-selection tool for everything in the car besides autopilot stuff. The right scroll wheel is \*only\* autopilot stuff. They should have just put the wiper button on the left side of the wheel instead of the right, but I'm sure then it'd be weird in some other way.

4kVHS 2026-03-08 03:25

But thats like saying I don't want to the left wheel controlling the wipers when that controls my music volume. In either case, the wiper speed is only controlled when the wiper "menu" is on the screen, and that only appears for a few seconds when the wiper button is pressed. So it doesn't matter which wheel controls it. Volume and AP/FSD controls are not impacted in any way.

w1lnx 2026-03-08 03:42

Not sure how it works on the no-stalk version, but when I trigger the wipers, I can scroll up/down with the left scroll wheel to increase/decrease, or just park the wipers.

toomuchoversteer 2026-03-08 06:43

If you keep tapping it it cycles 1 2 3 4 3 2 1

SnooHobbies7144 2026-03-08 07:16

I just wish it verbally told me which level wiper is at so I can use the scroll to adjust (and hear it say the level again) Having to look at the screen to adjust the speed doesn't feel safe, especially in rainy conditions

ehaaams 2026-03-08 08:40

Exactly! I hate having to look over at the screen, it doesn’t feel safe at all to have to take my eyes off the road

NorthSpecialist6064 2026-03-08 08:57

I can turn my wipers up and down with the same control on my Bolt.

ducmite 2026-03-08 11:44

This is one of the things I did with s3xy buttons. I have both step down and turn off actions in use. Buttons themselves I put behind steering wheel like paddles in some cars.

Admirable_Cry_3795 2026-03-08 13:27

I’m sure glad I got my M3 before the stupidity of removing stalks

Nundykbob 2026-03-08 14:18

I’m in the UK and have a 2026 M3 LR RWD and my wiper button is on the left… on the right is camera and voice

haight6716 2026-03-08 16:01

Picture me in my 2017S. The luxury. A prndl too; I have four stalks. And a sunroof that opens.

ike0069 2026-03-08 16:32

Damn, never knew this. Was just whining about this on my drive home last night.

jspreddy 2026-03-08 18:34

RTFM https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/models/en_us/GUID-A5C33F3D-E41D-4671-ADE5-C2FB73203323.html > Press the wiper button to wipe the windshield. If the wiper is already operating at a wiper setting and is not set to Auto, pressing the wiper button cycles through speeds. Wiper speeds cycle as follows: I > II > III > IIII > III > II > I.

soggy_mattress 2026-03-08 19:00

You're overthinking it. Nothing about the left scroll wheel ever makes you think that you can take your hands off the wheel. The right scroll wheel, though, has a precedent that when you press that button, you're not driving anymore. When you're designing new features, and you have 5 million people that have already learned that "right scroll wheel = I'm not driving", you don't just change that functionality years later such that "right scroll wheel = MAYBE I'm not driving". It's super dangerous and for what? So they can say "yeah the wiper button is on the same side as the wiper controls"? That's worth confusing 5 million people?

4kVHS 2026-03-09 05:24

No one associates the right scroll wheel as “I’m not driving anymore”

AgonizingFury 2026-03-09 06:30

I'm sitting here wondering what y'all are talking about complaining about it being the wrong wheel. The 2026 model Y Juniper moves the windshield wiper button to the left side, so it is the correct wheel now. Left is wipers and brights, right is camera and microphone

M4DHouse 2026-03-09 07:54

It’s a huge problem with cars nowadays that you need to learn how to use any particular vehicle. There’s a reason that functions were standardized, and it’s not a lack of imagination.

PresentationSome2427 2026-03-09 16:46

I do and I hate it

soggy_mattress 2026-03-09 19:27

Well that's just an asinine thing to say. There are like \~4 million Teslas on the roads today where pressing the right scroll wheel button enables Autopilot/FSD. It's literally the only thing that the button does... how can you say it's not associated with "I'm not driving anymore"?

Alive-Surprise8542 2026-03-11 14:04

There should also be slower settings. The slowest is still way too damn fast MOST of the time.
