Model Y Juniper: What Tint Matches the Rear?

SpaceXBeanz | 2026-03-05 11:29 | 9 views

I see the rear windows are factory tinted. I wanted ceramic tints on the front for UV protection. Anyone just tint the front or should I do all around? I’m trying to save some money this way. I was quoted around 500 for all windows (not including windshield and roof) but maybe front only would be much cheaper. Are the rear 20% possibly?

Do you think 500 is too much for ceramic tints all around? I was quoted 300 for carbon film but it’s not as good.

I paid about $200 for them match front two windows to the back last year.

moneyman729 2026-03-05 11:43

I only did the front 2 for 100

Ceramic? I heard the rear are not actually tinted so they won’t reject heat as well as if they were tinted.

SpaceXBeanz 2026-03-05 11:44

Ceramic?

moneyman729 2026-03-05 11:57

Yes but it’s been ice cold out so I don’t know about heat rejection.

I think they were ceramic. I did two cars at separate places. The most recent was certainly ceramic. Both around 200-300, somewhere in there.

If you’re taking it somewhere to be done they will know what tint is needed to match it. I just used the Tesla app to order mine. It sent me to a local installer that does Teslas. I then just told them to “make them match”. And that was all that was needed. I think I ultimately paid just under 300 for the two front windows to match the rest.

I paid $515 for ceramic all around including windshield. So to me $500 sounds about right in my experience.

StormTrpr66 2026-03-05 14:32

Not at all. Where I live a windshield alone will run about $300.

SubieSTI360 2026-03-05 15:37

I just paid $600 for 20% ceramic everywhere except the windshield. Got 3 different quotes and that was the low one. Figured it was Trump tariff BS. Tint should cost $250-300 max. I was going to do 70% on the winds but all 3 places said $250 just for that so I skipped it. As far as blending with the roof and top half of the rear window.. 20% is perfect.

I would triple check this; im pretty sure the factory tint is not true tint, the glass is dyed. It gives a tinted look but does not provide UV protection. You’ll notice there’s no film edging on your glass. This is my MY; rear glass was not tinted https://preview.redd.it/myheuktw39ng1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de2f881b4f42d3f74d37f3823b1faaeea446e99b

You say it should cost whatever you want but demand often sets the price. Was quoted $849 to tint my Model 3, all 4 windows and rear glass with an additional $150 to do all the sunroof including one sheet for rear roof/rear windshield. This is with FormulaOne Stratos ceramic tint.

My use of “should” is more because I’m old and that’s what it cost for many many years. 6 years ago I paid $450 for the whole car (ceramic on the windshield, carbon everywhere else).. I got several quotes so I’m aware that it just costs more now. Just had a bit of sticker shock this time. Looks great though! https://preview.redd.it/6t2m5epn89ng1.jpeg?width=2942&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=360b31fc4e78c45703d0a02a2fa2d0337dfadbed

Lol. I’m the same but name something that is the same price or cheaper that you bought 6+yrs ago. I wish too because damn, everything is so expensive! Nice color! That was my secondary color but Ultra Red just has more pop to it. I picked up my M3P on the 18th, still need to schedule to get tint done.

SubieSTI360 2026-03-05 16:59

Thanks!! Picked mine up last week. Funnily enough, red was the original color I was going to go with until I saw the blue in person. Both are the best colors!! I picked it up and drove directly to the tint shop! lol.. I went to get a quote but it matched the others I got on phone. Asked if they could do it that day and lucked out. I can’t fish bowl it in any of my cars. I had only put 15 miles on it before handing the “keys” over to the shop.. 😂

cxv321 2026-03-05 17:36

15% all around and they’re all matching

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-05 18:03

I hear you, it’s driving me nuts. But I ordered PPF first and it wouldn’t be life if you don’t have a 20yr+ old washing machine go out and deem time to replace both! LOL, again I wish things were cheaper and quality like the old days!

TsunamiBob 2026-03-05 18:06

Same here.

SubieSTI360 2026-03-05 19:17

Don't get me started.. lol.. I replaced my 1980's refrigerator my house came with with a $2000 Whirlpool that is a complete turd. If I could go back I would have paid money to fix the dinosaur. The decades old washer/dryer my house came with are running like champ. I don't think I'm gonna do PPF.. it's just too damn expensive unless you can do it yourself (I can't.. lol).. Luckily, mine has some kind of coating on it (not sure if ceramic or what) and water shed off it big time on my first wash! So, I may pay for Ceramic or Graphine down the line. I'm about to get my happy Birthday tag tax and I'm gonna do 2 years.. so my pockets are gonna be light for a while :)

Local detailer (ppfed my MY) quoted for my MS: Rear doors+liftgate = 350.00 Add front doors = 550.00 All around = 825.00

dreadstardread 2026-03-05 22:26

5 rear 35 front and windshield

mother_fkn_crackk 2026-03-06 01:06

Your tint place will match it.
