Fluid from the camera cleaner

anangrytaco 2026-03-03 19:46

The front bumper camera has a windshield wiper hose to clean it. You can manually trigger it by pressing the camera button on the steering wheel and then taping the bottom left icon of the front camera display window

Panic

Justman1020 2026-03-03 19:52

Well today I learned something new. Thank you.

Round_Employee5002 2026-03-03 19:52

I should call her

Faker108 2026-03-03 19:56

Looks to be the case but I have never activated that before.

Impressive_Jury_2211 2026-03-03 19:57

It’s a battery leaking copper 😂

Faker108 2026-03-03 19:57

I already am 😮‍💨

Faker108 2026-03-03 19:58

😆 lord save me

anangrytaco 2026-03-03 20:01

Try doing it. It might help clear the valve from w.e. debris or corrosion that's keeping it from having a full closed seal.

OkAd1498 2026-03-03 20:02

I wonder if the car automatically does this. Like how fsd activates windshield wiper or adjust hvac controls if windshield has a chance of fogging. Do you use fsd by chance?

More_Issue_3881 2026-03-03 20:04

Had the same thing happen. It’s the front bumper camera washer fluid. I had no idea how I turned it on either 😂

Signal-Signature7103 2026-03-03 20:07

FSD will do it automatically sometimes. If no FSD maybe it’s just leaking.

Faker108 2026-03-03 20:12

no fsd , im leaning toward a leak. We have never activated the spray before.

M1A1SteakSauce 2026-03-03 20:19

It will do it automatically as needed

LLuerker 2026-03-03 20:22

So the latest Teslas will squirt windshield washer fluid at the front camera.... Without wiping it? Why? Like what is that supposed to accomplish?

Stephancevallos905 2026-03-03 20:23

After an STI test lol

Round_Employee5002 2026-03-03 20:31

Never owned a Subaru

KarmaG12 2026-03-03 20:34

That’s weird. Don’t you think it’s weird? 🤣

randamm 2026-03-03 20:37

Do the new ones also clean the back camera? I might upgrade my 2020M3 if so

TheDarlizzle 2026-03-03 20:39

I was today years old when I learned this….

dwsdws 2026-03-03 20:41

in case its not obvious, its cleans the camera, and no it doesn't require any wiping

dwsdws 2026-03-03 20:42

it does it automatically from time to time

anangrytaco 2026-03-03 20:48

Nope, only front. Still gotta finger the back when dirty 👀

No_Divide_0080 2026-03-03 20:52

You hit a Predator. They bleed green.

JuanOfaKind79 2026-03-03 20:55

Is this feature on all models or just the Y?

Faker108 2026-03-03 20:58

not sure.. mine is the AWD juniper

Lama15 2026-03-03 21:06

Only vehicles with the bumper camera.

JuanOfaKind79 2026-03-03 21:07

Thank you

rbrumble 2026-03-03 21:13

And if it bleeds...

dastriderman 2026-03-03 21:37

Always loved the gold rims

dastriderman 2026-03-03 21:38

You seem dull

LLuerker 2026-03-03 21:39

Thanks bud.

LLuerker 2026-03-03 21:43

Why doesn't it require wiping? Usually when I get in my car in the garage I'll lick a finger and swipe over the back camera first. I'm imagining if I instead squirted some fluid at it, or spit at it, that it would give me less than desirable results without also wiping it

stuffedbipolarbear 2026-03-03 21:44

Is green discharge normal?

DieSackgasse 2026-03-03 21:52

its blue

NYKmasochist 2026-03-03 21:57

It’s design to be used when the car is moving forward.

69616D64616E21 2026-03-03 21:59

Have you never blasted food off a dirty pan in the sink?

LLuerker 2026-03-03 21:59

I'm curious how well it would work for those like me who live in the North country. I'm not entirely convinced moisture and wind is going to be enough for the salt buildup. Unless it has some serious pressure behind it, it seems like the results will be "meh" at best

LLuerker 2026-03-03 22:00

Well sure, but we're talking about transparent glass intended to see clearly through. If the fluid is sincerely "blasted" at the camera then maybe it does work. But doesn't it just squirt?

eatmorbacon 2026-03-03 22:08

...or a Vulcan.

The_cursed_yeet 2026-03-03 22:08

Damn I'm jealous. I wish all cameras had that.

TommyBoyFL 2026-03-03 22:09

stuffedbipolarbear 2026-03-03 22:33

You should get that checked

Aqueous Decontaminant for Optical Perception Sensors

MandeliciousXTC 2026-03-03 22:50

I am always having to do that.

FamousVQ 2026-03-03 23:04

I get tired of fingering the back of my X when it's dirty or wet.

Lund855 2026-03-03 23:43

Plug the leak ![gif](giphy|xstzYTN3334GCZgyj7|downsized)

FX2000 2026-03-04 00:12

Don’t finger your x, I thought this was common knowledge.

North_Tour7530 2026-03-04 00:16

This is the answer.

FamousVQ 2026-03-04 00:27

It is a lot easier to just finger it. I got tired of getting my sleeve on my hoodie dirty from rubbing the rear of my X.

fr3d0511 2026-03-04 00:36

I should call her.

AutomatedCabbage 2026-03-04 00:51

The key is to wait until it's hard and crusty

j3t3r5 2026-03-04 01:01

Had a loaner and i scared tf out of myself with the front camera cleaner 😂

_casshern_ 2026-03-04 01:35

Robotaxis have it. It may come to other models one day. https://www.carscoops.com/2026/01/tesla-robotaxi-camera-washer-upgrade/

_casshern_ 2026-03-04 01:37

It's just windshield wiper fluid.

_casshern_ 2026-03-04 01:39

Maybe dry it and let it be to see what happens? If there's a leak then you'd see it hopefully.

_casshern_ 2026-03-04 01:41

I don't think mine ever did. I know I wouldn't necessarily see it, but whenever it is very dirty when using FSD it just complains that the camera is dirty and won't even let me manual wash squirt.

the_real_DK_ATL 2026-03-04 02:04

No fingering necessary

The-Oracle88 2026-03-04 02:29

Blinker fluid

BikebutnotBeast 2026-03-04 04:06

Lenslizard, pretty solid kickstarter.

JamesGatz_x_TomJoad 2026-03-04 04:08

You just triggered my PTSD! My 2020 Model Y doesn’t have a camera on the front bumper. A few years ago while on camping trip 300 miles from home, I hit a small animal around 8 pm on a dark 2-lane country road. My car stared leaking a greenish blue fluid from somewhere around the front end. Turns out the critter I hit took out the entire EV battery cooling system and was a nightmare of an ordeal!

Aardvark_Long 2026-03-04 04:18

I mean theres only like 2 different fluids in that car lol, I don't think the coolant is blueish like that so its probably whats also all over your front bumper (windshield washer fluid)

EvilNickel 2026-03-04 04:28

I always wondered why people default to asking Reddit instead of just a google search. I feel like it would just be an embarrassing first step. If you search for "What is this blue-green fluid leaking underneath my front bumper on my 2025 Model Y" Google responds with "It is most likely windshield washer fluid used to clean the front camera on the redesigned 2025 Model Y. If it smells sweet and is slippery, it could be a coolant leak that could require attention from Tesla."

codemonkeyhopeful 2026-03-04 04:28

So it's like my ex... If other people cleaned the rear camera....

SirLlama123 2026-03-04 04:36

r/angryupvote

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-04 04:36

You would think having these rectangle super computers in your hand would be helpful! LOL but even before that basic common sense and deductive reasoning should help…..guess that’s why Reddit exists and I question why I bother here at all.

firefish45 2026-03-04 04:37

It's gotta be wiper fluid. Only other possibility is battery acid and that would be badddd

KeyAcanthocephala944 2026-03-04 04:57

That’s just an EV stomach ache… threw up a little bit…

vipeness 2026-03-04 05:58

Windshield wiper fluid.

SmarthomeRiggs 2026-03-04 06:00

There’s a new Kickstarter product I found to address the back camera cleaning from a license plate mounted washer you can control remotely. It’s called Lens Lizard, and I’ve ordered one for me and my wife. Can’t wait till they ship. Hope this helps others as well. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lenslizard/lens-lizard-a-remote-controlled-backup-camera-cleaner

TeslaCrna 2026-03-04 06:08

How many fingers does it usually take you? I have to use my whole hand to get really clean.

TheyThinkImAddicted 2026-03-04 07:11

So annoying thought Tesla would think of that. The model y gets so dirty

TheyThinkImAddicted 2026-03-04 07:12

Why didn’t they fix this for the back camera as well

Hot-Yak7742 2026-03-04 07:47

That’s clearly your engine coolant! I just had to change mine on my ‘25 model Y also 🫶🏻 Edit: check your hoses, maybe you have a leak!

AdSquare3489 2026-03-04 08:02

Careful here, the more you do it, the more it takes.

Serialtoon 2026-03-04 11:20

"...this is what's it like, when doves cry"

LLuerker 2026-03-04 12:39

☹️

sawdogg73 2026-03-04 13:47

This has to be the dirtiest non dirty conversation I have come across on reddit. Reading it out loud to my wife without telling her what its about, she said that’s nasty and asked me what kind of website am I on lol

chamillion03 2026-03-04 17:17

Instructions unclear. My finger now stinks and my friend is unhappy.

mik333_ 2026-03-04 17:40

Looks like your camera fluid is leaking. I’d get that checked out right away.

MasterBai8tor 2026-03-04 19:28

Im a leak specialist. Just apply some 100% silicon and that leak would be sealed.

Flashback_One 2026-03-04 20:19

Looks like its squirting a bit.

DRader150 2026-03-04 22:27

Yooo this is sweet thanks for sharing!

archocinco 2026-03-05 09:32

Always giggle when someone provides this intro summary/statement and the answer, doesn’t it take longer doing this? I would assume he has but then wants to certify his answers from the internet’s with fellow folk who may have the same issue.

Ok_Big_7238 2026-03-05 09:58

It's obviously new oil technology from your engine. Duuuhhh

Direct-Competition34 2026-03-05 15:42

Is it possible (like me) you accidentally activated it while viewing the cameras on the display? The button is in one of the corners of the screen if you’re looking at the front facing camera view.

Faker108 2026-03-05 15:45

No, it just did it again today morning. Tesla has agreed to see if it is malfunctioning on Monday.

Direct-Competition34 2026-03-05 15:46

Ah, that sucks. Glad you’re able to get it looked at so quickly tho!

Dildo_ExFlipper 2026-03-05 16:33

🤦

gtgwell12 2026-03-05 16:48

I always wondered why people questioned Reddit posts when it’s the whole point of having a common ground around a focused topic. Why else would you be here?

EvilNickel 2026-03-05 17:17

If everyone ran around asking "why does the windshield washer fluid get everywhere when I use it" this subreddit would get really annoying really fast. This place is a good resource for help, but it shouldn't be your first resource.

gtgwell12 2026-03-05 17:37

Of course, but that isn’t what was asked. You rephrased the answer as the question.

EvilNickel 2026-03-05 19:25

Doesn't really matter what was asked, when you can just copy their question and paste it into google and get the answer.

gtgwell12 2026-03-05 21:30

Yeah I understand and agree with your point to an extent, I just don’t think this post is that. I did learn about the camera washer because of this. Anyway, happy to disagree lol

daddys_plant_boy 2026-03-05 23:32

Washer fluid from the camera

Toaster_Pilot22 2026-03-07 01:59

Always my favorite time 😂

RickySpanishEOD 2026-03-07 02:22

Sometimes you gotta spit on it first. Buuuutttt... https://preview.redd.it/en5v823n9jng1.jpeg?width=1112&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4068c9874f2841cd2f70fc86504f163e9ed1944f
