I've seen too many videos of perps stealing idling cop cars. This will prevent that. Even if they manage to steal it, remote speed limiting will slow down the potential chase.

The comments after the linked Carscoops article are some of the dumbest EV ignorant comments I've read in a long while.

Do the cops know that there are a lot of cameras on those cars?

Mac-Tyson 2026-03-02 15:09

I’m surprised they are still using the premium Model Y’s would have thought with the new base AWD Trim that would be a better platform for the Model PD. Especially since one of the concerns with the premium as a police car is the grass roof but the liner in the base trim solves that.

shaggy99 2026-03-02 15:31

Getting through the glass roof is not easy or fast.

Mac-Tyson 2026-03-02 15:39

Yeah I don’t think so either but I imagine as long as they see it’s glass the temptation is there for the suspect. So I’m sure plenty of departments would prefer the standard trim interiors.

cypressaggie 2026-03-02 16:39

Consider Batterypack size

woody60707 2026-03-02 17:22

And their will be even more when the fitted for police use.

savic1984 2026-03-02 17:47

Cops gonna hate these cars lol

woody60707 2026-03-02 17:50

Cops hate anything new, like most people. It's the main reason people hate EVs.

-eccentric- 2026-03-02 18:09

Looks the same from the outside so literally doesn't matter

QQowns 2026-03-02 18:40

Murphy, its you.

sure hope they are getting performance trim to keep up with the crazies out there

PIN to drive has shown how impactful it is at preventing thefts. For some reason the car industry says nah we don't want this, and it's largely left to brands like Tesla that offer it OEM.

Random_person465 2026-03-02 22:21

Drop some examples so we can see their ignorance lmao

Quick_Possibility_99 2026-03-02 23:06

Tesla probably programmed a special software for them. ADAS is probably disabled completely.

Saurta17 2026-03-02 23:36

These are done by Unplugged Performance, Tesla plays no role at all

Quick_Possibility_99 2026-03-03 00:56

I think Anaheim PD in CA said that the ADAS is a problem with car chases. Other car companies have specially-made cars for police to buy. I'm sure they disable some of the software in the cars.

stanley_fatmax 2026-03-03 04:51

Pin to drive is a non starter for on duty cars though

stanley_fatmax 2026-03-03 04:58

Oil capital, but also #1 in renewable generation, #1 in wind, #2 in solar, etc. Model Y is made in Texas too. It makes sense imo

gummaumma 2026-03-03 05:59

I’ll give you one guess as to what state Tesla is headquartered in.

WeebBois 2026-03-03 06:53

They also have state EV incentives, don’t underestimate Texas!

Corogue 2026-03-03 17:19

I need that pushbar in the front. Parking in the city is horrible.

TheLanceCorona 2026-03-03 17:25

My hometown has had these since 2024 [https://www.edenprairiemn.gov/Home/Components/News/News/10271/28](https://www.edenprairiemn.gov/Home/Components/News/News/10271/28)

ihateroomba 2026-03-03 18:14

Wow, puts a new spin on dog mode

AgeMysterious123 2026-03-03 18:19

I’m down for a little less police brutality. 🤷🏻

ihateroomba 2026-03-03 18:22

I'd settle for equal rights/fair fight.

Just-Yogurt-568 2026-03-03 19:23

Yea that’d be insanely annoying. Preferable to just have cell phones which are mountable to their vest, to ensure they don’t leave them in the car.

stanley_fatmax 2026-03-03 22:39

I feel like even the UWB/BLE phone keys are a technical risk. There needs to be a near 0 percent chance of the car not being able to be thrown into drive and driven within like .25 seconds of getting into the car. That's why they're left running when on duty, any fraction of a second shaved off getting going is potentially the difference between life/death, or someone getting away
