It’s not attached by bolt . It’s glued with 3M Like material . You can run fish wire to get it out
I took mine off no problem
No bolts as already noted - I recommend using a heat gun/hair dryer to loosen the adhesive before you pull it off, it's on there pretty good.
Yes, double sided tape they had given me with the front plate frame
Partially an incorrect statement - the PICTURED bolts/screws are in fact real and hold the mount on... OP the size can be easily found by googling - been asked many many times ;)
I bought one of those tools people use to take emblems off of cars. It was like $20 on Amazon. Took it off super easily.
I used a pair of vice grip pliers to lock on and turn them.
It IS attached by two bolts. OP even showed you a picture of them. 🤦♂️
The bolts are fairly easy to remove with some small channel locks or pliers. They arent tight.
Yes bolts. There’s a literal picture of them. This is a legacy Model S/X. There are two pentalobe bolts on the bottom of the assembly.
Yeah I've definitely seen a lot of posts about removing these plates, but haven't seen anyone talk about the bolts. Maybe I'm just not handy enough or don't have the tools, so people haven't had issues.
It’s a 2 part license plate mount, which are connected by screws. However the mount is glued onto the bumper with doubled sided 3M mounting tape.
Meh was debating if i should take mine off n risk it all w no front tag here in NJ. Twinning btw; my plates on just erased it out of the pic https://preview.redd.it/hoj1wg3fhdmg1.jpeg?width=4230&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43d507c983730808359f5cf3c61902818cf3be16
The mount is NOT attached to the bumper with bolts. The mount is a 2 piece mount and the bolts hold the 2 pieces together. The mount is attached to the car with double side tap. A heat gun and fishing line removes it easily, just did it on my 26 Model S.
Oh hell yeah. I'm next to you in PA so I want that front plate off of there.
Nerp, sorry sport. Have you ever done this on a legacy Model S? It shows. Hard to understand how people can be so confidently wrong about something they have no first-hand experience with. There are indeed two pieces. The outer piece visible in the picture OP provided is secured to an inner piece with regular screws. It is also secured to the underside of the bumper with two pentalobe bolts. The inner piece is secured to the bumper with double-sided adhesive tape that is easy to remove as you describe. But OP isn’t asking about that because he hasn’t even gotten that far yet.
Bolts are pretty easy to remove but the glue was a pain in the ass. Get some fishing wires and heat gun to help.

Definitely not Torx. They’re pentalobe security screws.
Your right my bad
torx bolt not a security bolt
100% not Torx. 3 seconds looking at the picture should confirm this. Torx has six lobes, not five. Torx screws are “female”, for a “male” tool to be inserted in the hole to turn the screw. The pattern on this bolt is raised, requiring a socket to remove it.
My torx bit took these right off. try it.
Even better, a long shoe lace. That’s how I removed it from my 2021+ Model S Plaid.
It’s a pentalobe bolt.
Correctly sized flat blade screwdriver should fit in to two opposing lobes enough to unscrew.
Thats not a bolt into the bumper.
