48 amp charging is glorious.
I thought range anxiety really started when you head out of town? I have a home charger and I live in an area with at least 8 charging stations within 3 miles.
Welcome. It’s a game changer!
If I couldn’t have this at home I’d just assume go back to gas.
11 sweet kW
This is step 1 , 2 and 3 .. you’re already there !
Mine gets delivered Tuesday. Can’t wait!
I guess it's more of a convenience and peace of mind thing
Wall charger at home is a must!
I got convinced to buy a tesla while I was in Florida.. there were chargers all over. Bought my car in Michigan and there are 2 within relatively close distance (15-20 minutes).. I just assumed they would be there and I never saw them because why would I notice.. lol. Home charger comes Tuesday. Can’t wait to never worry about range or gas stations again!
Savings of cost and time alone vs Super Charging make it a great investment and will eventually pay itself off
Yea range anxiety it being at 20 % when you get to the charger but 10 miles away is a charger all 20 cents a kWh cheaper so you go for it thinking yea piece of cake but you get there with 1%. Never again lol
Depends. Some locations have 5 within a mile and a half radius. Then it becomes a choice.
Yeah but they all might cost twice as much per kWh as a home charger. Definitely the case where I am. Home charger can pay for itself eventually, convenience aside.
7kw with a mobile charger has done me fine for 8 yrs.
I was able to scrape by with 1kw charging for 2 years. Moved to my own place and went straight for that Level2 48amps.
If it works for you, great. If you have the ability to have a wall connector with a 60A breaker…it’s amazing. The only time we ever go to a supercharger is on roadtrips. One wall connector serves both our teslas.
Once you get this, your ownership experience changes completely. We got a second Tesla because of how much we loved the first one’s experience. It feels strange pumping gas now!
Same here! Well, 7 years for me.
Usually public chargers are very expensive. I have paid for my charger already probably many times over since my rates at home are 5c or 8c per kWh depending on the month.

It really is incredible. The mobile charger can get it done too it just requires more planning.
We’ve owned the Tesla for six months and have used a super charger exactly once. The rest has been home charging at 12A, 120V. We simply do not drive it far enough to need anything more.
I end up just using many, many USB battery banks one after another
With 48 amps and about 4 hours, anything is possible 😂
I never really thought about how much money I saved on installation costs (im an electrician) i was just happy that I no longer needed to go charge at night before going to work. Its awesome having your own charging station at home.
I'VE been doing the wall connector for 7 years averaging $14 for 300 miles and happy!
How much for the install? I’m getting multiple quotes to run a 20ft of cable and a 60amp breaker and it seems like they are trying to rip me off big time.
I am in one of those areas Home charger is a MUST unless you hate money and have so much free time you can hang out for hours every week while you fill up vs waking up to a full tank 0.09/kWh vs 0.33/kWh
Overpaid 700 here
I mean the charger was 486 alone so I only paid 384 for the install.
210 for the permit 1384 for the install although ComED gave me 1k for the install and the permit fee was waived as well so only paid 384.
Yep this feels like the sweet spot. I can easily fully charge at night and I was able to use an existing circuit.
I’ve been relying on superchargers for the last five years and there have definitely been times where a home charger would have been beneficial. This post reminded me of those times and I might just go for it and get it installed.
Let’s be honest nobody wants to sit and charge at a SC. It gets annoying quick.
I use the 3kw medium size wall plug. Does fine for me but definitely jealous of that speed
I use a NeoCharger. I have a 2023 MYP and a 2018 X100D. Two mobile chargers plug into it. Primary will charge to 80% and then switch to secondary until 6am.
$900 is pretty cheap!
Which is really affordable btw
Game changer. I leave every day at 80%.
ramge-xiety
I heard it works the best when you tie into your neighbors panel.
Why? That would be best for max recharging speed. My first road trip and I reached the charger at 3%…..was out of there in no time!
I am not sure I’ll ever need the full 48A experience, and so I will keep with my 24A connection using the mobile charger semi-permanently.
There is a huge value to the charger being located at the same place I sleep.
On the outside?? Are you not able to park in your garage? What about inclement weather?
*kW
They have atleast an IP55 rating so its fine having it outside. I have my charger outside here in Finland where its over 30°C (86°F) in the summer and under -30°C (-22°F) in the winter. No problems.
Give that cable a little slack my boy
THHN or similar wire isn't cheap either, not sure how far away you are from the panel, but I spent over $300 on wiring and other supplies. Sounds like a great deal to me!
That’s how the electrician left it 🤷🏽♂️
I feel like every Tesla owner needs this. You will literally never have to worry about charging anywhere unless you’re on a road trip
I don’t have a garage or covered parking so my mobile charger is outside 100% of the time.
It's the only way to fly.
Which state are you in?
Now just the occasional mild anxiety when I discover I forgot to plug it in.
Does a Supercharger put more stress on the battery too?
Yes. But that is controlled. The charging capacity decreases as the battery gets full. Which is why it might take 30 mins to charge from 20 to 80%. Yet another 30 just from 80 to 100. This safeguard is built in to protect the battery.
Same here, fellow Finnish redditor 😁 First winter with EV (Tesla MYP) and charger is outside, coldest weather was -35 and no problem
I just ordered a used m3 yesterday but didn't order a charger. I have super chargers very close to me everywhere but i only drive like 40 miles or less a day so im not sure My panel is in the back of my house so it would have to be a long cable going to the driveway -- a single driveway. Have concrete going to the direction of the driveway from the label but the opposite side of the panel i have dirt and grass but would have to be trenched all around i assume.. my house isn't that big but I'm wondering how they'll do it. I remember my Christmas lights being like around 50-100ft going from that end to the other. So maybe this would be longer but minus the shape of the roof No way to use the garage since it is even further back separated from my house and lots of stuff inside
Yeahhh on the outside. It’s very common here in NJ. We use our garage as storage so not possible to park in there. It’s been almost 4 years with Tesla & no issues :)
Might be how electrican left it however, the cord will thank you if you stick to 3-4 loops.
Been using my mobile charger on 110V for 5 years and never had an issue. Crazy thing is I’ve had the wall charger for 3 years that’s just been sitting in the closet lol.
Read that as “game charger” 😆
Same! Switchvolt splitter in the plug for the dryer which is on a shared wall with our garage. Such a slick option IMHO
Supercharged for the first time 2 days ago. Rolled in to Ames, IA at 4% and it was a fun little show for me watching the percentage fly 🤓
For me, less about range and more about paying $.09 kWh while charging up between 1 am and 5 am.
That sounds nice. I take it you are on a NEMA 14-50 or similar? Drop your setup so others can learn if they have a similar setup as you.
Yep. Same here and saw the max of 254kW which was cool.
Also, given that home charger are slower than public superchargers, this is better for the health of your EV battery.
I paid the same even though the electric panel is literally right next to the charger. It's insane how much electricians are quoting for this stuff now. I don't think they would have quoted the same for just a 240v outlet a couple of years ago.
I was reflecting the other day and realized there's never actually been a time where I needed one of these (which I do have one) and the wall outlet charger would have sufficed. There's never been a time where I got home for the day and the wall outlet charger wouldn't have charged enough for the next day overnight. Still nice to have, but there's that side of the coin if somebody is trying to justify the cost.
PSE@G paid for my installation $1500 credit. We didn’t pay electricity for about 8 months
I have a supercharger that I can literally walk to. Plus I work from home so daily driving would be covered by trickle charging just to run errands and pick up my kid from school. So my question would be, is this still a “need” for me at this point or a “want”? I plan on buying a juniper when my current lease runs out in november.
Yes. Working from home I can always use the slow slow charger as well if I’m not going anywhere.
Money well spent.
I charge at work for free - but that’s 40 miles away (and the closest public charger is 20 miles away). My backup at home was to plug the mobile charger into my dryer outlet and run the cord out the back door… and drive my car into the back yard to get to it. Doable, but a hassle. https://preview.redd.it/t8udj9cli9mg1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fbfe72979c70bfb3be5a6ce1f3e742fd66fb1bf Since I work from home every other week, I found myself having to do that more often than planned (after owning the car for almost two years). So… I also finally bit the bullet last week and had a wall connector installed. It’s really nice not to have to worry about charging anymore. It’s just right there if/when you need it.
Wall chargers a waste of money, and a way to rip off gullible people. All you need is an inexpensive charging cable like the on you get free with the car and a wall outlet.
kW is power. kWh is energy (time integral of power).
Thats what i got. 60A breaker with the tesla wall connector. I love it. The car charges so fast.
yep, same here for 4 yrs
I would rather call it necessity, especially if you run a full charge daily. Got mine installed and setup before I got MYP.
Drop it to 42a. It’s only a little bit slower, but you’ll notice the cable doesn’t get as hot.
Try and see if you get discount rates when charge off-peak hours
Damn that’s clean asf. Is that a custom plate for the wall charger?
We have free supercharging. Have had it for 3 years now. My wife doesn’t know the concept of gas anymore lol
It’s the only way to own an EV.
Such a great investment. Side-note: I’ve noticed more and more people coming to market looking for these to be installed in the house before the they will buy the house
How much for installation
Range anxiety? I had it one time, on the 4 hour ride home from picking up the car. Then I hit my first supercharger and was impressed how easy it was.
L2 wall charger is a game changer, unless I go on trips I never have to go to a super charger again. I paid around $1300 total for everything. I went through one of Tesla’s recommended installers off their website and that was the cheapest install I could get.
We have solar panels and use so few electricity and generate so much excess in comparison even doing this is going to keep the bill at 0.
1384 for 60/48 amps 23 feet run from panel in basement to garage. 384 after rebates
Thank u
Congratulations! Now install Wattapp and start collecting points. [https://www.wattsapp.ca/invite/EX49-MJAJ](https://www.wattsapp.ca/invite/EX49-MJAJ) https://preview.redd.it/cvrsjl6onbmg1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a815cadca1173310d07b8daf9dd2cb4187419909
I recently moved and asked the previous owner to leave the wall charger and he did. But now the wifi is locked, I need to reset it. Can I open this with an Allen key?
The cable getting hot doesn’t hurt anything
You can just lower the amperage in the app for the wall connector if you want a slow charge. No need to use different chargers
Great to know!! Thanks!! If I charge daily and they recommend only going to 80% daily.. I’ll basically be going from 60 to 80% each night max. I’ll just have to figure out a sweet spot for 3% an hour or so..
Try contacting him to release ownership
It’s really nice being able to take a day trip on the weekend and it not take 60+ hours of charging (plus your daily charge) to get back from 20% to 80%. Instead it just takes a few hours. Yes you could always top off at a supercharger, but that’s definitely not as convenient.
The screws use a 4mm ball-tip hex driver. You don’t need to open the unit to do a factory reset BTW. > To factory reset a Tesla Wall Connector, turn off the power at the circuit breaker for 30–60 seconds, turn it back on, and immediately hold down the charging handle button for at least 5 seconds while it boots up
Not the guy you were responding to, but I'm in the Kansas City area and my time-of-use plan gets around $0.07/kwh between midnight and 6 AM. By switching to the time-of-use plan and tuning a few things around the house to take advantage of it, my electric bill didn't even notice the addition of an EV. My bill for January 2026 was lower than January 2025 despite getting a Tesla in July.
I just tested it on mine. It will let you go all the way down to 5 amps. That translates to 1.2 kW which is even slower than the mobile connector on a regular 120V outlet (1.44 kW). I didn’t know it would go that low.
Teslas are heavily depreciating vehicles and could be considered a waste of money all in themselves 🤷🏽♂️. I had 900 bucks to spare and paid for the convenience. I’ll break even on that a couple months down the line anyways.
I could probably just double that and be fine. Quality fun fact. Thanks again!
Absolute garbage opinion. The wall connector is only $150 more than the mobile connector. It's hardwired (much safer), and has a longer cable. The ability to charge at 11.5 kW vs 7.7/1.4 kW is just a bonus. Not all Tesla's even came with a mobile connector in the fist place.
Congratulations!!
Yeah, before we liked our Tesla and then after that wall connector, we loved it! We ended up getting another. I just did motor and trans mounts on a friends Mercedes today and it just reaffirms I love my teslas for daily driving. I don’t want to have to do this kind of maintenance on my daily’s. For my “fun cars” sure.
You don’t get extra miles by having a connector at home
Ok
My electric company quoted me for $21,000 because I need an entire electric panel and new mainline installation on top of that my electric panel sitting on the exact opposite side of my garage so I’m not lucky I guess
What kind of stuff are you storing in your garage if not your car?
I’m not too sure how all that works but have you tried a quote for a regular 240v outlet? Could be miles cheaper
Yeah, in fact, that is what I am quoted for. about 9k for panel upgrade, 2k for new natural line, 5k for main line upgrade (from electric box outside to my panel, they said electric from provider must be cut to be installed ) and another 5k to from my panel to garage 🤦♂️
Can someone please tell me the difference between this and using the mobile charger on a 50A outlet. I know the difference but I mean charging wise. I have an outlet but I have thought about buying one of these.
After sitting on it for 3 years, I finally hooked mine up today!
How many miles of charge do you get per hour?
40-44 miles a hour so it takes 4 to 4 and a half hours to go from 20-80 at 48 amps
As someone who has a 2018 E-Golf before getting a 2020 M3P….range anxiety on teslas doesn’t exist
how many folks would be interested in 22KW?
i dont know anyone who actually parks in the 2 car storage room. mine has a bunch of ebikes, motorcycles, toolboxes, checmicals, and other misc toys.
Definitely did for me. Handicapping where I wanted to go cause I didn’t want to constantly pay for supercharging got irritating as well.
Nice. I got quoted 2500 bucks to install mine, so not in a rush. So far having no issues living on 110. Enjoy.
Oh you guys don’t have good changing networks where you live? I charge every 3-4 day which and cost me around 20 dollars 10-90%
Exactly lol especially with kids… there’s a lot of stuff, strollers, unopened toys, summer things, stuff from Costco, gallons of water . Etc . No one I know used their garage to park their car 🤷♀️
Here’s my setup. NeoCharge splitter is plugged into a Nema-1450. 40 amp circuit, pushing 32amps, 7kw. https://preview.redd.it/tvyka0wv9gmg1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4be7e2970cd38bfdafa00c36cb9f7a779446622c
Y'all some messy mfers
Nice! This looks great it will surely benefit someone searching in the future. The wall connector works fire me because of my parking situation but if I had the ability to run your setup, it looks ideal!
Tesla actually sells it ! I got it 2 years ago to match my M3
Haven’t bought a gallon of gas since 2022!
It’s wild. I still have some “fun ice cars” but I drive them so rarely the gas stations see me maybe once every couple months at most. The funny thing, they stay plugged up more than the Teslas! Haha
True words, but everything I read said it’s safer to drop it from 48 to 42 amps. I’m not in any hurry when I get home from work so 42a is acceptable for me. To each their own. If you’d rather use 48a and have a hot cable to charge a bit faster, you do you. On the newer Tesla Wall Chargers, after you pair the charger WiFi, most have said it recommends using 42a.
The wall charger on a 60A breaker adds about 40 miles per hour of charge. The 50A mobile connector adds about 30 miles per hour of charge.
It’s worth every penny. Congratulations
Granny Charger to the end
I have one too. A must have imo
just as soon
I have a clothes dryer outlet that I have to unplug every time i need to charge. How can I add an outlet on the dryer electrical line but use some type of switch so the dryer does not draw voltage when my Tesla is charging? Is there an electrical switch that will accomplish this ?
I’m sure they have some on Amazon.
I need to invest in home charging the day before a road trip this would come in so handy.
Range anxiety for tesla lol
Thank you. Now I don't think I can justify paying hundreds more for 10 more miles per hour.
i type-1 charge and never get range anxiety but i digress
Same, luckily my uncle is an electrician and did mine for free. still a little pricey from Tesla but at least it looks cool.
Since having my charger installed at home I’ve literally used a supercharger twice, on each leg of a 500 mile round trip for a brief top up. Each time using free supercharger miles from referrals. Would be mad not to get one installed
We all have range anxiety for the first year and then it just goes away.
Amazin. I love charging at home
I'm taking delivery of a MY next week. I plan on using the Mobile Connector (level 2) which comes with the car. Does the Wall Connector offer much of an advantage?
I’ve had mine for five or six years already. I’ve got an X and all it takes is a little preplanning and you won’t ever have range anxiety.
I’m paying $1000 for install of two chargers on Friday.
