Yes. The video shows self driving never disengaged
Wasn’t my car but yes it did that on its own. FSD saw the car on the wrong side of the road, singled and moved over on its own. Then got back over the once it passed. Amazing.
The headline should be Toyota Camry Avoids Head On Collision.
Damn that was a close one for the Toyota in front of you.
Tesla reacted faster than the car in front of you and turned away from the threat while the other car turned towards it lol
That toyota shit their pants
It’s a compelling reason to shit yourself
The Camry almost died dude
Is the head-on collision in the room with us?
I think camry saw it directly coming to itself and its right lane was blocked by the truck so it tried to swerve into the opposite lane to avoid the head on collision.
Toyota swirved left too....good on your tesla though.
Was my first thought too, however you can also see that it slowed down from 69 to 49 mph quite quickly and in the bottom left it shows the brake isn’t applied by the driver it seems. Self Driving didn’t disengage either. So there is a good chance it did actually react to the oncoming car.
FSD to the rescue. It’s things like this, with another car in front of you that you might never see till it’s too late!
The Y didn’t avoid a head on collision. It moved to the right, but the Toyota would have been hit head on, not your Tesla.
It dropped 20 and changed lanes automatically
Exactly! It’s more impressive that FSD saw the on coming car even though it was blocked by the Toyota.
Yeah the guy in the Toyota must have crapped his pants. He swerved left first then back right. He must have been a foot or two from a collision.
Show me where dropping 20 and changing lanes equals avoiding a head on collision in the video. The car swerved back onto their side to avoid hitting the Toyota.
FSD saw and reacted in time and appropriately to the threat. People can buy pick whether it "avoided" a head on collision or not; but had the other car crashed into the Toyota the Tesla would have already been in the right lane, out of the way.
People downplaying the accident avoidance here are bizarre. I mean maybe “head on collision” isn’t the right phrase but that was pretty solid accident avoidance. What a train wreck series of events by both cars there.
Avoids or almost causes?
Jesus christ. I shit my pants just watching.

Not sure why people are so bugged by the title of this post. FSD observed a potential head on collision whether the Toyota was hit first or the Tesla everyone involved probably would be dead. Not sure if a human would have saw the other vehicle crossing over the center divider and reacted in time.
"How can I make this about me"
Crazy impressive. I love FSD
Camry driver: I paid my road tax at the distributor and by God I intend to use all of it
Anyone with eyes could've avoided this from where you were. Y'all really be impressed by this?
I didn't think the Tesla saw that coming. I think it simply changed lanes behind a slower driver. Period. Why? Because I don't see it slowing down at all. Just preparing to go around.
Wt af was that SUV driver doing??
FSD move to the right and slow down like that, so not a chance FSD is letting the car behind pass. At least never happened to me.
But it automatically switched back into the left lane and sped back up.
I had to watch the video twice to even see the car coming. No way I would have noticed during regular driving especially if it was already a longer drive.
Because it noticed the trucks existence.
They’re all non-Tesla owners, or people who have never tried FSD. That was not only a solid reaction, but a smooth one. I find mine to be far, far smoother adjusting to pretty much anything. It’s like it’s gone from being a teenager in Driver’s Ed class a few years ago to a much more competent driver.
I can’t open your eyes more buddy, look at the instant change in speed the brakes were hit automatically
Sure. Maybe you watching this video ten times on repeat yeah. But if you are on the highway going straight for two hours long I doubt half the drivers would have anticipated it and gotten ahead of it and shifted to the right lane instantly (and checking their right mirror ensuring it's actually safe to do so)
I’m not a Tesla owner and have done one test drive in a Y with FSD. Technology like this is game changing for safety. You don’t have to drive very long on a highway to see the first person looking at TikTok videos with one hand on the wheel not paying attention. That person would likely have been in an accident here. It’s possible that’s what set this chain of events off. I want this technology to succeed if for not other reason than it’s safer for everyone. I mean I pretty much gave up cycling on any streets because of close calls and friends who have been hit because people are oblivious. It’s needed.
I don't think so, the behavior seen in the clip is not something FSD normally does at all. I've used it for over 5000 miles now and have never seen it react that way to the situation you describe
More like model y reacts to Camry reaction
It scrubs off 20mph when it switched lanes (70 mph to 50 mph). This looks like accident avoidance to me. The turn signal doesn’t come on until after the car started changing lanes, which is not typical FSD behavior.
Toyota Model Y?
Normal drivers would probably brake while FSD went to the other lane to get out of the trajectory of the potential crash
FSD avoided the head on collision (about to happen directly in front of it) The Y reacted 3 seconds faster than the human driver 3 car lengths ahead in immediate danger.
Exactly! Computers are not distracting or get fatigued.
He looked like he was playing chicken with the other car. Either that or he swerved the wrong way and changed his mind at the last second. I would love to see a dash cam from his car if her had one.
Either way it was in a good position if there was a crash. It would have been safe in the right lane.
Great point! If there was a crash and it braked it would have been hit. Predicting a crash it moved to the right lane and would have been safe if the cars crashed.
& have a constant awareness of their blind spots / all angels on the car.
If you don’t pay for FSD, would the car let the accident happen? Interesting flip on the trolly problem…
Thats a camry!
Even if you don’t have FSD on the car would let an accident happen. I have only had emergency breaking kick in 3 or 4 times in 6 years of driving Teslas.
Basic AutoPilot uses one of the older models, which probably doesn't have some of the more complex accident predictions... but the latest FSD models are still running on all the cars in shadow mode.. so FSD might detect it, but not able to act. Interesting one!
Camry drove the rest of the way with the music off
I would have 100% shit my pants or sweating buckets if I was driving the Camry😭
