That sticker is an NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) damping shim for the brake pads. What it does- * **Reduces brake squeal** by damping high-frequency vibrations between the brake pad and the caliper piston * **Absorbs micro-vibrations** that would otherwise turn into noise when braking lightly or at low speeds * **Improves brake feel and comfort**, especially in EVs where drivetrain noise is minimal and brake noise is more noticeable Why Tesla adds it: * EVs are *quiet*, so even small brake noises stand out * The adhesive-backed shim creates a constrained damping layer, breaking the vibration path that causes squeal Important details: * It goes on the **back of the brake pad**, not the rotor side * The adhesion promoter + wait time is critical — poor bonding = sticker can peel = noise returns * It’s not structural and doesn’t affect braking force, only comfort/noise
Is this a double sided tape? Also what thickness should it be? I assume the pistons need to be pushed back to accomodate the thickness of this tape
The knock sound when reversing is the play in the brake pads inside the caliper, not much you can do about that (you need it).
