I bought a cheapo one as a spare from amazon for 25 bucks, works just like the original so why not

Why not buy a Tesla one for the same price: [SAE J1772 Charging Adapter | Tesla Shop](https://shop.tesla.com/product/sae-j1772-charging-adapter)

Get an original adapter, even a used one is better

Yeah certain things don’t cheap out on. Just my 2 cents.

tigole 2026-02-25 04:30

Technically $1 cheaper.. also, I could have sworn these used to be $25. Also, the Schumacher website saids that adapter is rated for 60a. Tesla's is rated for 80a.

Conscious_Ad9982 2026-02-25 05:50

Yeah don’t go cheap on adapters. You either get a Tesla made one or go with a brand like A2Zev or lectron

cGAS_STING 2026-02-25 06:23

Just get a cheap one. It's not going on the space shuttle

The fact that Tesla owners in the comments are haggling over a $50 adapter only solidifies my belief that the majority of owners are reaching well beyond their means to buy these cars...

Huge_Exchange_9655 2026-02-25 10:16

Or that’s the first thing that popped up when I google “Tesla charger adapter “ thus why I asked the group if it is a good one 🤷🏾‍♂️

hwcminh 2026-02-25 10:33

Get the Tesla one and call it a day

Here winter tires are mandatory during winter. You'd be surprised how many car owners, not just Tesla, buy a 60-70k car and then first winter come, they look for the least expensive winter tires and then complain that the car can't handle any snow. Tires are probably the most important component in your safety, but they will go on marketplace buy a used cheap chinese tire with 5/32 thread left.

What, tangible difference is there?

Roccoajr11 2026-02-25 17:01

Like $20 on Amazon

hwcminh 2026-02-25 18:02

Couldn't I ask you the same thing...? I prefer to get the adapter designed by the company who made the car. Call it peace of mind I guess.

Ok-Mark-3446 2026-02-26 03:59

Get something similar to this: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQVJ5GY2?ref\_=ppx\_hzsearch\_conn\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title\_5](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQVJ5GY2?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_5) I know it's discontinued but the reason is you can do Level 1-3. The adapter you're looking at only supports Level 1-2.

FYI the 15$ amazon works normal

Zebraitis 2026-02-26 18:17

I know, right? Think about all the angst on reddit recently re: if people should pay $8k for lifetime FSD or not. Crazy.

Dildo_ExFlipper 2026-02-26 20:31

One dollar more for an official part. Obviously you need to go with the official part.

tigole 2026-02-26 20:33

It's one dollar less for the official part, which does 80a instead of the Schumacher's 60a.

You don’t buy a cheep adapter. This is an electrical connector pumping out 48 amps. Buy Tesla, A2Z, Teslatap Mini etc. These are quality electrical devices.
