Can’t believe I bought one

cdasarasota | 2026-02-24 15:05 | 25 views

I’ve been a Honda sedan driver my entire life, but I placed an order last night for a model y premium. I am terrified that I messed up here haha. I’ve got some questions if you’ve got some answers. I bought the dark grey premium With white seats. Is that ok? Am I going to regret that? They already scheduled me for next Thursday. Is that gonna move or definitely not? Should I do that FPL charger instead of having my own installed? Why’s that tiny so damn expensive? Should I get a local shop to do it? Like a thousand bucks or something do tint? Holy crap.

I felt the same way. Had a 2018 civic and then a 2022 civic and loved both of those cars. But always wanted a Tesla since I got to ride in one in 2015. Got super lucky with the .99% rate and was able to sell my civic and get a premium AWD M3 for even a lower payment. I couldn’t believe it. And I haven’t regretted it once. The only thing extra I had to do was get a 240v outlet installed in my driveway to get faster charging. And I think if you own a house it’s more than worth it. I just rent my house but got my landlord to work with me. But I’ve heard great things about the white seats. Easy to clean. And it’s a lot of glass to tint. Just make sure whoever tints it has tinted teslas before and make sure it’s ceramic tint. If you want it a little cheaper you can do half the back glass. It looks fine from the outside. But I couldn’t stand seeing a distinct line every time I looked in the rear view.

I have the white seats and you will love them !

tesla charger is the way to go. i've had a couple of off brand chargers and they are quirky at best. there are a lot of new in box chargers cheap on ebay/FB, i would not pay full price i put on a sunshade instead of tint and it made a big difference in interior temperature for $50.

I have mine waiting for pick up but I'm debating picking it up. I have a 2016 paid off Nissan Rogue with 58K miles on it. My insurance is 70 dollars a month. I've wanted a tesla for a while but I would go from paying 70 dollars a month for a car to paying about 800 dollars a month for a tesla model Y premium. Not sure what to do.

ConnectionSoft2164 2026-02-24 20:51

I installed a 240 outlet in my garage, but at my girlfriend's house she has 240 outlet in the garage for the dryer so I purchased one of the auto switching boxes and it works great.

CarbonKLR 2026-02-24 21:00

You didn't want to get that cyber truck at that same price point?

Tight_Squirrel4090 2026-02-24 21:17

You just gotta be careful with the dryer ones cause some of them aren’t rated for EV charging and can melt the outlet

SojuBomb32 2026-02-24 21:53

$800 a month?! Really?

BubblePWR 2026-02-24 22:11

And that's putting 15k down. I bought it with FSD which is an additional 8K. It just sounds like a waste of money for a luxury for me. I am so torn

SojuBomb32 2026-02-24 22:12

To be clear - $800 a month on insurance alone?

BubblePWR 2026-02-24 22:13

With insurance

SojuBomb32 2026-02-24 22:18

Gotcha. That’s definitely a big jump from your current situation.

ConnectionSoft2164 2026-02-24 22:26

The one I bought was rated for ev it was $120. I used my mobile charger.

My husband and I have been diehard Honda owners (and still are for the most part). When my odyssey died, we test drove a newer odyssey, a crv and a Tesla model y. I went with the 2026 premium model y - white exterior and interior. The seats are surprisingly easy to clean and keep clean. I was hesitant like you, but I’m a few months in and while I miss my odyssey, I have zero buyers remorse. As for the charger, I drive no more than 20mi a day, so the mobile charger has worked perfectly for me. I’d say if you drive 80mi or more a day, seriously think about installing the home charger. Congratulations on your new car!

Sure-Cloud-940 2026-02-25 01:03

Just subscribe to FSD the months when you driving heavily and have road trips planned.

Whole-Beginning1362 2026-02-25 01:18

No regrets on white seats. Two years and mine still look factory new. Keep a pack of baby wipes in the car to touch them up once a month or for any spills. That’s all I ever use to clean my white seats.

BubblePWR 2026-02-25 01:27

The rumors are that FSD pricing may go up since now it will only be subscription based. I'm aware that there's a quota for tesla. But that's what is suspected for the future of FSD.

Sure-Cloud-940 2026-02-25 01:39

I could see it but still what if it’s only heavily used a couple months out of the year. Also for clarity I pay the monthly

Old_Telephone_6076 2026-02-25 01:57

I daily driver the model y launch and Its by far the best car ive ever owned.

PhoteksTTV 2026-02-25 02:10

As a fairly new Tesla owner with FPL I'll tell you my experience. I was worried about the white seats as well. Avoid seat covers as they can potentially interfere with the seats built in air bags. Go for some sort of leather protection like ceramic coating and regular cleaning. Enjoy your seats. You paid for them. Don't cover them up for the next person to enjoy. As far as the Tesla charger, I can't be for certain, but every "Tesla certified" installer I called all gave me the same price 800-1200$ no matter what option I wanted. (14-50 NEMA dedicated outlet or Tesla wall charger installation). I decided to call a normal electrician and got a dedicated 14-50 NEMA outlet installed for under 300$ to use with my mobile charger. Congrats on the purchase you won't regret it but the first few months will feel weird as you get used to switching to EV. Cheers!

Still funny to me that Americans think 240v is fast,

ZealousidealDraw4075 2026-02-25 11:52

Can you pay it in cash I. Full right now? If the answer is no then don't do it

Tight_Squirrel4090 2026-02-25 15:56

Fast enough for 90% of situations. Obviously not super fast. But way quicker than the default 110

ZealousidealDraw4075 2026-02-25 16:00

I agree that 240v is probably good enough for many, I use it and its been fine. But in Europe that is the slowest option

cac2573 2026-02-25 16:40

Brand loyalty is so weird

cdasarasota 2026-02-25 16:41

The devil you know.

Slocko 2026-02-25 16:43

What do people install over there?

ZealousidealDraw4075 2026-02-25 17:41

400v for installs or 240v for the Mobile charger (what i use)

Slocko 2026-02-25 19:55

Yeah our residential infrastructure doesn't support it. But to be honest 240v is probably enough for most situations.

Detective_Far 2026-02-26 12:54

Ordered it, than asked questions. What could go wrong.

cdasarasota 2026-02-26 12:56

Thanks for your valuable input.

Particular_Living584 2026-02-26 18:50

Way prefer to drive my model s over my wife’s Honda HRV. All the engine flush stuff they keep recommending and now transmission fluid change every 25k. Gone are the reliable Hondas that just need plugs and fluid changed at 100k. I. Use a wall charger for mine but don’t drive more than 40 miles every other day so I never run out juice more than I charge.

Famous_Ad7312 2026-02-26 21:29

If you can afford it, do it, if you can't, don't. If you are going to second guess yourself every time you make that payment, don't again. Is it worth it? Depends on who you are. Is my Model Y Juniper Performance an absolute blast to drive EVERY time I get behind the wheel, yep!

BubblePWR 2026-02-26 21:35

I can afford it but then I'm on a tighter budget… I have savings and investments… I just don't like feeling on a budget…. I guess… especially when it's self-inflicted and unnecessary… I'm also hoping the housing market calms down. So idk.

Famous_Ad7312 2026-02-26 21:38

Then don't force yourself into anything, maybe there will be a time the decision is a no brainer, do it then.

Outside-Comparison12 2026-02-27 02:05

$1000 to do tint is extremely overpriced. Find a better shop.

NoMagician9361 2026-03-02 18:54

My wife was hesitant to buy the white interior on her 2019 Model 3, but loves it now. She is careful that the grandkids don't have pens in their pockets and such, but after all these years they still look great! We also know to beware of wet blue jeans, from stories we heard.

BubblePWR 2026-03-08 04:48

I need you to convince me again that I don't need it lol. I'm picking one up tomorrow for an overnight test drive — I still have until March 15 to pick up the car or lose it. Sigh.

Famous_Ad7312 2026-03-08 04:55

Don't pick up the test drive one if you're not already fully convinced you're going to do it.

BubblePWR 2026-03-08 04:57

Why?

Famous_Ad7312 2026-03-08 05:27

It'll hook you, you'll be done
