The window did not retract upon opening, which caused a crack and scratching of the rim. New model Y under warranty.

Is this a warranty case? It seems to me that this is a malfunction case, hence it should be covered by warranty. I already scheduled an appointment. Update: The fix qualified as a warranty fix. They did some checks and determined that it was a malfunction qualifying as a warranty fix.

It depends, and I'm not an expert on the Y. On my Jan 2025 MSP, there is a button to press to open the door. However, there is also an emergency manual release lever -- and since most people are expecting a lever of some sort, quite a few passengers end up pulling the emergency release rather than pressing the button. The physical emergency release does not cause the small lowering of the window. If you ask Tesla quickly after it happens to check the logs, I suspect they can determine if it was properly opened or not as long as you have a general idea of the date and time. If you wait too long, I suspect the logs will be gone.

I was opening from the outside. There’s no other button but the handle.

Similar issue in this thread. Was covered by warranty https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/comments/1r4beh1/2026_myp_front_passenger_window_cracked

The emergency release does indeed cause the window to drop as long as the car has power. Ps: Tesla saves vehicle logs to a database. They never delete anything.

Not on the Model S per Tesla warnings to use the button.

We’re talking about model y on this thread. But the S does it as well. The issue is if that if you’re pushing the door outward when you use the emergency release you might open the door before the window has dropped.

Then you didn't read my post.

Reread my comment.

Do you have an aftermarket puddle lamp?

Varna16 2026-02-24 03:33

No. I don’t even know what’s this.

I forgot to mention in my post that I was opening the drivers door from the outside. The window simply did not retract. It did not let me lower the window for like 10-15min and then it went back to normal alas the crack and rim scratches are still there.
