Loving FSD on HW4 in my 2026 M-Y Premium

YardieRebel | 2026-02-23 01:20 | 235 views

I got my 2026 M-Y last month and my FSD was xfr'd from my 2021 M3. This is now my 2nd post touting the sheer magnificence of this technology. The daggone thing drives the car BETTER than I do (lol) Its logical "thinking" skills is remarkable. I took a road trip today from my home in Miami and headed 109 miles north to Port St Lucie to a relative and I just sat back and let FSD take me from my door to my destination while I relaxed. On the way back (shown in the clip) it was raining heavily and the car maneuvered flawlessly! I am truly in awe of this technology. I am also getting spoiled, like I now want it to drive me, EVERYWHERE lol

You're going to be downvoted becuase it doesn't fit the "FSD Doesn't Work" narrative, but I TOO love the FSD on my M3 Highland! I can't wait for the day when "'Incredibly Smart' Summon" is unlocked so I can have my car pick me up from locations instead of an Uber or Waymo.

Ok-Equal-1885 2026-02-23 02:41

cmon, at least pretend to have a hand on the wheel while you’re recording the road in inclement weather going 75 🤣

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 02:42

Yassss re: "Incredibly Smart" Summom lol I can't wait either lol

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 02:43

Lol that would defeat the purpose of showing off FSD's prowess lol

AUCE05 2026-02-23 02:47

Dumb question. How is fsd an advantage over normal driving? Is it less stressful?

ForeverMinute7479 2026-02-23 02:47

It’s really pretty damn good right?

FLawless______ 2026-02-23 02:53

My first experience with FSD was on my '26 MY back in August. It's become significantly better only 7 months later. HW4 FSD is other-worldly. My wife always snipes it from me, so I picked up a '20 MS LR+ and it happen to have FSD packaged; it's indecisive with lane changes. I'd rather have my eyes monitored than have to jiggle the steering wheel every 30 seconds. It's still great though and for certain I'll use it when I feel like putting minimal effort into driving. cruise control < autosteer < autopilot < hw3 fsd < hw4 fsd I'd take Tesla's HW3 FSD for assisted driving over anything another car manufacturer could offer.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 02:53

Waaaay LESS stressful. Just sitting back with no hands on the steering wheel and no foot on any of the pedals while the vehicle effortlessly and skillfully maneuvers thru traffic is simply PRICELESS! U can eat and drink (non alco of course) with ease while on your journey, look out the window or tilt your seat back and look up at sky relaxingly etc etc etc It's like having someone else drive the car for you. I really love it.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 02:53

Worth every penny!

Dr-Goochy 2026-02-23 02:54

Can you be on your phone without it getting upset?

masked_kulprit 2026-02-23 02:55

No

East_Yellow8389 2026-02-23 03:01

Why not alcohol? I have a fully stocked mini bar in my car. The FSD makes it much easier to make my martini and even roll a joint.

CaptainRelevant 2026-02-23 03:03

You’re not showing off what you think you’re showing off.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:04

You can be on your phone for brief moments but if u are staring down at your phone for like 30 seconds or more it will alert u to pay attention. I actually had my phone on the charging pad in full screen mode and was watching something on Netflix while driving 🤭 It cannot see that I am watching something as it's my eyes looking downward and not my head tiltled downward lol

East_Yellow8389 2026-02-23 03:04

That's it I'm gonna make Elon upgrade my hw3 to hw4! Anybody got his mobile number handy? I lost it.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:04

😂😂😂 I am a responsible driver lol

Ok-Equal-1885 2026-02-23 03:05

no disagreements there, it’s some of the coolest tech i’ve ever experienced!

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:05

🤭

East_Yellow8389 2026-02-23 03:06

You can go to the bathroom without it getting upset. I tested it. But no phone use!!

East_Yellow8389 2026-02-23 03:12

Wearing sunglasses I also find makes it much easier to look at something without the camera seeing.

Solidarios 2026-02-23 03:17

I drive from the Bay Area to Palm Springs twice a year for work and that long straight on 5 just gets really boring and tiring. I bring 2-3 staff members with me every time in the X and I’m way less tired vs driving my old Audi. Plus everyone is either entertained by games, movies, or Starlink. It’s not perfect but it does 95%. And I’m on hw3.

MadGeographer 2026-02-23 03:20

I got rid of FSD a few months ago. Do you now have the option to manually select eyes or hands on the wheel?

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:31

True!!

Xbox_Live_User 2026-02-23 03:31

Ironic

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:31

😂😂😂

Argyrus777 2026-02-23 03:32

I see no use having heated steering wheel anymore

imacleopard 2026-02-23 03:32

The fact that you fully admit to being a worse driver than FSD is scary because I consider myself a fairly capable driver and FSD is good but has a very long way to go. That being said, more people should have access to this tech yesterday

TonedBioelectricity 2026-02-23 03:34

At this point it feels significantly safer than driving yourself as well. I used to be a driving enthusiast doing 50k+ miles per year but v14 has made me never want to touch the wheel again (maybe outside of canyon roads and the track lol), it just doesn't feel worth it from a safety standpoint

TonedBioelectricity 2026-02-23 03:36

You just don't know what you're talking about unfortunately, get some experience with FSD. I have 15k miles on v14.x and strongly feel that it is a better driver than 99% of people, including myself.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:36

Always a naysayer in the midst, carry on LOL

Shinebright444 2026-02-23 03:38

Did you not see the post of dude hydro planing in FSD? I’d at least go Chill versus hurry but do you

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 03:41

Made it home safe and sound 😊

ihateroomba 2026-02-23 03:48

You aren't using any part of your "driving muscles", it is really pleasant. I actually had a guy try to swerve at me and the car maneuvered flawlessly, then got behind the car so it could take our exit. Like OP says, it drives better than human.

ihateroomba 2026-02-23 03:50

Mine was set to mad max when I left the dealer. It took me a minute to realize. It was amazing.

NatKingSwole19 2026-02-23 03:55

Cool. Put your phone down, dumbass.

goba101 2026-02-23 03:56

I have HW3 and it has been good. Not sure if hw4 is worth the upgrade

Balancedone_1 2026-02-23 04:02

I was sold on it after the test drive. The brand has made a huge improvement over previous years tech.

FLawless______ 2026-02-23 04:04

I believe all Ys and 3s have the cabin camera, so it will utilize it whether HW3/4. the MS and MX didn't get a cabin camera til 2021 refresh, so their FSD relies of steering wheel nag

kadhtobi 2026-02-23 04:13

Lol I'm so glad your 2026 model y didn't come with hw3😂 😂

kadhtobi 2026-02-23 04:15

Bro, my hands were freezing the other day and I only use fsd, I think I'll buy a hand warmer

NurseDave8 2026-02-23 04:32

How long did you have to wait for the update. Got a M3 and still waiting for the software update.

Potential-Expert-386 2026-02-23 04:34

The advantage of fsd that humans will never be able to replicate is the ability to see and track traffic all around them at all times. You have two eyes and they're in the front of your head. You'll never be able to see what is behind you and to the side of you all at once. I'm an early adopter of fsd and have been using it for many years. The first versions were very bad but todays versions are quite amazing. I once had FSD stop in the middle of a road which I thought was a glitch until a driver ran a red light that I could not see. It actually protected me. Had I been driving, I would not have seen that driver run a red light because it was unexpected and I would have been Tboned.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 04:49

I have had FSD for years now. Have a Juniper with FSD, so I have plenty of experience. I am a better driver than FSD, which is why I don’t like it. It’s great for my parents, they really like it, and likewise agree it’s a better driver than them. The fact that the average driver is just about as bad as them OR WORSE, is the scary part.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 04:50

It’s objectively not amazing at driving. It doesn’t mean it’s not impressive. Two things can be true…

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 04:50

Lol

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 04:53

Ok grumpy 😂😂

MadGeographer 2026-02-23 04:54

I have a 2024 M3P with the cabin cam. Could be I was using an earlier iteration of FSD that didn’t offer the option. It constantly nagged fo a hand on the wheel.

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 04:57

Me too!

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 04:58

How long have you had the M3 now?

NurseDave8 2026-02-23 04:58

A week

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 04:59

Facts

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 05:01

I got my 1st update on my 2026 M-Y about 2weeks into having it. So yours should be coming any day now.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-23 05:14

People always say they’re better than fsd when in reality they can’t be far off. If you’re like a f1 driver, probably, but even then, those drivers are subject to fatigue. There is a very slim chance a single human is better than FSD currently.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-23 05:18

How long have you had your MY and what version of FSD are you on?

Big-Dingo-8625 2026-02-23 05:23

I have HW3 on my 2022 model s and it’s pretty much flawless I almost never have to intervene and it’s always for something small no serious issues so far! I truly believe it’s one of the most amazing pieces of technology I’ve gotten to experience in my lifetime. It’s like living in a jetsons or some futuristic cartoon and like having a private chauffeur available 24/7 for free

rwhe83 2026-02-23 05:33

They live in Florida (terrible drivers) and have minimum coverage insurance on their vehicle, they fine- nothing bad will happen. I’m surprised they had their hands **near** the steering wheel!

Groundbreaking_Box75 2026-02-23 05:47

You are not required to have your hands on the wheel with FSD. What YOU are showing is that you have no idea of what you are talking about.

Beautiful_Paint8860 2026-02-23 05:49

I’m VERY curious to know which juridiction in which you presumably live where being hands-off is not required.

Strange_Lab_283 2026-02-23 05:50

I was on vacation in Florida recently and dear lord even FSD 12 would drive better than literally any of my Uber rides

Groundbreaking_Box75 2026-02-23 06:11

Tell me that you don’t use the current version of FSD without telling me you don’t use the current version of FSD. btw - you may want to rework the syntax of your post so that it means what you want it to mean 🤣

Beautiful_Paint8860 2026-02-23 06:32

It’s not about knowing FSD or not, it’s about the social contract of road attention we all share as road users. Also, please educate me about syntax. Edit: grammar

rpkusuma 2026-02-23 07:01

FSD drives like a teenager with a new driver's permit..

Solid_Equivalent_417 2026-02-23 07:57

Does FSD overtake other cars by changing lanes like that automatically?

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 11:01

Yes it does overtake cars but not in a erratic/unsafe way. It assesses the situation using ALL the cameras, calculating the distance between the cars, the speed of the other cars etc etc. It's great technology.

rsxstock 2026-02-23 11:02

to be fair, most people probably think they are better drivers than they are

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 11:02

You sound ignorant asf 🙄

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 11:07

I got it in Jan 2026. It's on version v14.2.2.5 right now.

Big_Buy8203 2026-02-23 11:59

A responsible driver allowing AI to do 75 in inclement weather while recording on their phone is responsible driving 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You’re a comedian that’s what you are

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 12:00

It's 2026 not 1996! Get with the times grandpa lol

vulcan_on_earth 2026-02-23 12:02

Oh hush! Long time FSD user here who refuses to drink the allIsPerfect KoolAid. I was on a six lane interstate hwy (3x3) on a sunny afternoon during this past weekend, with FSD (HW4) doing 70 in the middle lane … ahead of us was a yellow sign to indicate vehicles merging from right onto Highway. Noticed a vehicle entering the highway from a curvy entry ramp. FSD (hurry mode) hit the brakes real hard and dropped down to 50 to avoid what it thought could be a potential collision with that vehicle. Was not unnerving to me since I knew why but rattled my fellow passengers. Does that mean, FSD behaves like this all the time? No!! Does that mean, I know when it will misbehave? No!! Having four+ sets of eyes means it can see a lot more and process a lot more … but its logical reasoning engine still cannot tackle everything the real world throws at it. And, that world keeps evolving!

Big_Buy8203 2026-02-23 12:04

And when FSD does something dumb and you have an oh shxt moment i bet you will think differently. But in your eyes you think this technology is perfect so who knows how you’ll respond

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 12:09

Lemme guess, u still avoid emails and send letters via the USPS? U prolly also warm your foods in the regular oven bypassing a microwave or an air-fryer😂😂😂 Oh and do u think the pilots on your flight are sitting there holding the throttles and looking straight ahead while you're on that plane? It's A.I. flying that iron bird u dinosaur! lol A.I. is here to stay, the A.I. train has left the station and it is moving full speed ahead (like FSD in "Hurry" mode lol) Get with it or get left behind 😂

Big_Buy8203 2026-02-23 12:19

AI isn’t the problem, you are. There’s no reason for you to be driving 75mph in inclement weather. Not to mention you’re not paying attention but you’re also recording a video like it’s a joke. You’re the reason FSD would get a bad rep because you’re abusing the technology by doing idiotic stuff like the above.

vulcan_on_earth 2026-02-23 12:26

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 12:31

I am NOT the issue nor is there an "issue". The technology in FSD is quite superior and its designers/creators are constantly updating it. Do you think they didn't take into consideration inclement weather? Of course they did and if they felt the tech couldn't maneuver the vehicle under those conditions they'd have programmed it to be suspended in those types of weather. Don't project your fear unto me or the rest of us who appreciate this tech. I paid lots of $$$ for FSD and it is finally working as it should've (but didn't) when I got it 5 years ago and I am gonna enjoy the hell out of it. What's the point of having FSD if one has to sit there in constant fear of it failing? It's a working technology and I am gonna let it do what it was designed to do i.e. FULL SELF DRIVE me to wherever da fck I wanna go!

CaptainRelevant 2026-02-23 13:00

I have used FSD. Listen, you can drive the car with your feet but that doesn’t make it a good idea. What I’m saying - albeit snarkly, I’ll give you that - is that I still wouldn’t trust FSD to film it at 75mph in the rain. Maybe you and OP have had an errorless experience, but I sure have had to intervene enough times to not fully trust it.

cameron5906 2026-02-23 14:08

That's always been a setting I thought

jnads 2026-02-23 14:53

Hands-only isn't an option anymore after the 2022 NHTSA recall

jnads 2026-02-23 15:11

More evidence that people who say HW4 is the greatest thing ever are bad drivers. OP letting it pass a car on the right at 75mph in a hard rain. And swerve across lanes like a drunk in the rain.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 15:28

Yes I know, and there’s different definitions of what makes a good driver. At the very least I drive mindfully and don’t have my phone in my hand while driving which is already more than can be said for a big portion of the population.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 16:24

You don’t need to jump to extremes (f1 driver)

Groundbreaking_Box75 2026-02-23 16:38

“I <have> used FSD” implies that you don’t currently use FSD and I’d be willing to bet you have not used the current version of FSD ever. Since the start of the new year there have been over one BILLION miles driven using FSD - about 14.7 million miles a day. Of those billion miles how many do you suppose are driven with people clutching their steering wheel? Since V14 (when we could see our FSD miles and percentage of use) I’ve logged approximately 5500 miles of FSD driving (87%) without a single critical disengagement. I’ve driven in virtually every traffic condition (city, highway, commute, etc.) and do not even think about putting my hands on the wheel. Do I trust it? Absolutely! I trust it so much that I require my teenage daughter to use my Tesla, and to use FSD if she is driving anywhere with her teen friends. You don’t understand and/or trust FSD? That’s a you problem. But having your hands on the wheel while your car is in FSD is like the cringe guy who wears a belt and suspenders with his suit. 🙄

Quin1617 2026-02-23 16:50

I bet it’s the same in Houston and Dallas. I’m actually scared to drive in those cities.

Quin1617 2026-02-23 16:58

> OP letting it pass a car on the right at 75mph in a hard rain. And swerve across lanes like a drunk in the rain. The person camping the left lane isn’t OP’s problem. If the right lane is clear I’m not jumping behind a slow car just to avoid passing on the right. 75 is too fast imo, but I’m sure I’m in the minority that wouldn’t go above 50-55 while it’s raining. And you should get your eyes checked, because in no way did FSD “swerve across lanes.”

Quin1617 2026-02-23 17:01

Yep. Also no human can see 360° around their car all at once. That in itself gives FSD a huge advantage that humans can’t ever hope to gain.

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-23 17:26

Did you get the version 14 immediately?

YardieRebel 2026-02-23 18:32

It was delivered to me with 14 already installed but I've since had like 3 over-air updates to the software

CaptainRelevant 2026-02-23 19:06

Let’s sum this whole thing up as “Your mileage may vary”. I didn’t say anything about keeping hands on the wheel, that was a parent comment further up. I have used the latest version and have a 2023 with HW4. For some reason, in my area, going under some overpasses immediately goes to the red screen telling me to take control of the vehicle. Other Tesla owners have told me the same thing and that’s why I don’t subscribe any more. So, in the meantime, I’d recommend anyone in my area pay attention.

TexFarmer 2026-02-23 19:16

Me too, I hardly do any of the driving now, I just let FSD do it!

Solid_Equivalent_417 2026-02-23 19:32

interesting. that sounds pretty nice

jnads 2026-02-23 21:47

Robotaxi has been involved in more accidents per mile than the average human driver https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/1r7pf59/tesla_robotaxis_involved_in_14_crashes_since/

WhitePantherXP 2026-02-23 22:54

I did not, can you link us?

WhitePantherXP 2026-02-23 22:56

You can only focus on things 45-90 degrees in front of you, it's quite limiting. People who are skeptical of FSD just haven't used it, can't blame them.

WhitePantherXP 2026-02-23 23:01

on MYP HW4 here, I worry that it's in a stage that it's gotten SO damn good, that I will eventually miss something critical because it's just so rare that it ever messes up the basics. I've learned to watch it in the areas that issues occur (complicated parking lots, etc), but outside of that small 1% of scenarios - I trust it more than I trust any driver, literally the most cautious and skilled driver I've ever seen on the highway and it's 100% of the time that way. If it ever messes up on the highway I hope I'm ready, but it's been over a year since v13.x and I've never intervened on the highway, I don't think. It's probably the best life upgrade I've ever made and I'm almost 40 - I hope other brands like Rivian reach parity with FSD so we are not forced into the Tesla brand like we are currently. I refuse to drive anything else until there is another vehicle that can at least drive 100% of the highway for me (BlueCruise/SuperCruise are closest) and have a similar software experience. I drive all over the east coast now because I just want to explore the world with it, never liked traveling so much but it might as well be a chaeffeur.

WhitePantherXP 2026-02-23 23:08

You on HW3?

Putrid-Box4866 2026-02-23 23:48

Just read the top comment on that thread dude.

vulcan_on_earth 2026-02-24 00:58

HW4

Meanee 2026-02-24 01:15

Mine tried to go into oncoming lane to go around a schoolbus with flashing red lights.

Alternative-World-33 2026-02-24 02:46

Try it on a road covered in snow.
