Same for me on an interstate exit next to a service center one mile away.
Tesla seems to be stretching the FSD team so thin/focusing on pure driving logic that they seem to have taken a “navigation is good enough” approach for the last few years while they focus on their robotaxi pilot areas. It is probably one of the biggest reasons for my disengaging autopilot these days.
Where exactly is this? Curious to see what OSM displays.
I get this kind of stuff all the time. I will keep Google maps running on my phone sometime to avoid out of the way, inefficient or just bizarre stuff like this
Been dealing with this shit for years. Apparently you can report it so it can be fixed but its never worked for me. So i have to disable fsd every single day to work at the same spot because of it. Google, waze, and even the shithole apple maps all have no issue with it.
Fairfax VA near DC. Google Maps has no issues. Also obviously no road would ever be made like this lol
☠️ that’s super annoying
Yeah I wish I could just run Google Maps on the display.
I’m curious what the lights and road markings look like in that section. Got to be something it’s seeing that makes it think it can’t go left.
OSM does have this exact intersection routed weirdly where to opposing routes converge into one even though this boulevard is two complete separated routes the entire way. That is most likely the cause of Tesla routing this way since it's already been known since the early Smart Summon days that Tesla does use OSM for their routing purposes. Tesla only uses Google for the base map layer and POI information.
Hmm interesting 🤔
Man i left NOVA 7 years ago and still miss Wegmans
Wegmans is the best
I had a similar thing on a right turn where it would direct you to make a left and then make a u-turn at the next light two hundred yards away. I would just ignore it's directions and make the needed right. Getting fsd free at the end of last year that issue is gone. I think it and most issues like it stem from construction not updating correctly or in a timely manner because If memory serves the T Intersection only used to be two lanes, where one was left turn and one was left and right turns , but it was expanded at some point last year to two left turns and now one right turn so 3 lanes total at the intersection. Which is something that Google maps and Tesla can only do so much when there's probably 100s of road format changes a month across each state. Just like paper maps I'm pretty sure we're out-of-date by the time they were hot off the printer to be shipped out to gas stations and rest areas. Ah, the good ole days.
That's what happens when they refuse to licence idk... Google? That already works
I wish Tesla would offer a navigation API for FSD. That way you could choose your preferred nav system. Waze/Google maps, Apple, whatever. Edit: yes, I know that having an API for safety critical systems is a huge risk
I bet if you check TomTom it will have some jacked up road data. My area has tons of these issues and it makes FSD useless for local driving.
I really wish they would use OSM in my southern region of the US as the map data is dead on. Every bad intersection and road segment data issue that screws with FSD/routing in my area is a direct copy of the issues in TomTom data.
I've seen and experienced similar examples of this but each time FSD figured it out and didn't blindly follow the bogus navigation data (e.g. turning right out of a left turn only lane). The worst thing that has happened (at least in the last 2 or so years) as a result of this for me is that FSD made no driving mistakes but chose a route that was needlessly ...... scenic.
Nav is fairly separate from FSD, but when FSD was terrible, they played with it to avoid left turns. Now that FSD is a left turn. Genius, they fixed it somewhat, but it still has a lot of whacky routing - useless u-turns and swinging around in cul de sacs.
Tesla Nav strikes again
😬
I have a strange theory that random editors are making map changes that are up to no good. In my area, many left turns now also have a u-turn option, which is illegal in my province. No u turns at controlled intersections.
Tesla navigation and not having apple/google maps is one of the top reasons I want to dump my Model 3
FSD doesn’t blindly follow the in-car navigation.
So submit a report that it is incorrect. It’s not difficult.
Google Maps doesn’t route to chargers if needed.
If any of those could route to chargers then sure…
We all get these weird navigation issues. There doesn't seem to be a way to report this sort of stuff. The only way I found to let Tesla know is to force a disengagement and report that the navigation was incorrect.
Don’t see where I said it did. I’m not going to let it add several minutes onto a trip because it refuses to go a normal route or acknowledge a certain road or exit exists. A disengagement is a disengagement.
Miss the prepared food so much, that pizza 🍕!!!
It’s not difficult to report, but what are the chances of it being fixed? I reported for years for errors that keep happening. If you’re outside US the navigation data is only updated twice a year, which is a loooong time in the age of dynamic updates with Google Maps.
FSD would have turned left and not followed this route.
Seen it myself, not really sure how to report it
Welcome to [Melbourne, Australia.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hook_turn)
I had an issue like this on my daily commute for a month, got frustrated and decided to voice report it, surprisingly never routed like that again
Was this a regular intersection? Or was there some modification. I.e road closure for traffic going straight, or permited vehicle only?
It’s a normal intersection. I turned left.
