How do you book this? How structured/involved is this inspection?
This is amazing idea, I'm definitely doing this at the end of my warranty
Which type of Tesla do you drive?
I wonder if I can still get this under the ESA, I just clocked 50k today.
That’s a pretty popular problem for the front end of teslas. The bushings almost always go out
I’ve asked my service center to do this and they keep doing these “complimentary” inspections but I’ve tried telling them I want you to look at the vehicle closer and from every angle possible, even if it’s an extra cost and I’ve never seen this.
hopefully they do this in europe also
Yup had the same problem on my vehicle. I paid $100 for the parts and swapped them out myself. Saved me 1k of overpriced labor.
Create a service visit using the “other” option and in the notes put “my warranty is about to expire. I’d like you to inspect the car including all bushings and links”. And they’ll take care of the rest. Price varies depending on your service center but should be around $150-$250 USD
I had the same issue on my MY at 42K miles and had it replaced for free under warranty
Nice! Just curious, did you have an issue like noise?
Was the $189 refunded after finding an issue or did you just eat that cost? I had my 3's upper control arms on both sides replaced for free, I just said there was a noise (there was). But I figure if your SC is nice, they're not really going to bother to replicate this issue - they'll just replace - given its a known issue on the Y and 3.
When exactly does a Tesla standard warranty expire?
No refund. The idea is they will check anything that can possibly covered by the warranty. So this is not the only problem they look into. There are many others they checked but were fine. If you point to one specific thing and they find it covered by warranty, you shall get refund for the diagnostic.
Wait so, I'm confused - did you get refunded? They found an issue; but you didn't specifically call out that issue?
No refund for this pre-warranty inspection. I don’t specify an issue. They will check anything that can be covered by the warranty before the warranty expires
Ah okay. Does it come with any inspection reports? Like a check list of what was ACTUALLY checked. Does this double as a pre warranty inspection for qualifying for extended tesla warranty?
Report—yes. Pre warranty inspection—no idea, I don’t know you need one anyway. Maybe a question for Tesla.
No noticeable noise but was pulling right. I thought it was an alignment issue
I tried doing an inspection before my warranty ended, The tesla rep told me “we can’t do that, there has to be a problem” Smh
4yr 48,000 mi
I have a drivetrain inspection booked for my 2018 MX. It’s €254 and scheduled for the very last day of my warranty.
>How structured/involved is this inspection? Unfortunately, it is not. I paid the same for the same kind of inspection as my model 3 was approaching end of warranty and they basically came back with only "tire wear is a little uneven, probably want to rotate your tires".
Just scheduled mine. Lumped it in with my steering column making a groaning noise whenever I turn the steering wheel all the way in either direction.
mine is 50k miles
That’s crazy. They actually emailed me when mine was expiring telling me I could.
Is this something you leave the car with them for? Or can you wait while it’s being done?
Mine had to be changed at 32k miles.
So what is stopping then from not really checking and just say all is ok? Do they fix the things they missed if the my break shortly after?
Woah this is amazing. So not only for basic warranty but also for the extended drivetrain warranty. I love it.
These should be free (aka included in the purchase price of the car).
I literally had the exact same findings with my pre warranty expiration inspection
Same here, have yet to have a great experience with my local service center
Are you still planning to get the extended warranty?
Not everyone is going to have issues
Of course. But they could have listed the things they checked and found to be in good shape. It came across as they didn’t even bother putting my car on the lift and checking it out because I didn’t have a specific issue.
Someone mention 475: wonder what that inspection have.
I have a 3 and a Y. The one referred in this inspection is a 3
Yep also had mine replaced a month before warranty expired. I specifically knew this issue and asked them to inspect along with some other minor items. They charged for the inspection I requested, but the warranty work was covered. I suspect if you specifically complain about "creaking" you can get it totally free. 4 years and 30k miles.
Same. Following
I do. However, do realize the extended service agreement comes with $100 copayment per visit
Damn. I just paid $2k for that service. 😭
Inspection can be a waiter. The warranty work, well, of course depends on what has to be done.
Right, makes sense thanks!
What year was the one you got inspected?
I just had this done before my extended warranty expired. Cost was $528 in Southern California. They replaced lateral control arms under the extended warranty less a $100 copayment. Well worth the cost and the service department was great getting it done.
Yes - I just did at 65k
Just replaced my tires at 78,818 miles on 2020 Model 3 SR+ - OEM Continental Procontact RX T0 235/40R19 replaced with ProContact RX T1 Contisilent.
Honesty, it's good to see there are still trustworthy mechanics.
JFC - At least list the make model year of your Tesla! Also, it would be nice to list what service center and city or town did this work out for you.
All my front suspension links were replaced under warranty on my 2019 Model 3, and then again out of warranty later. I drive normally, in a country with very good roads, and I even slow down below the limit for speed bumps. What confuses me is the inconsistency in how these cases are handled. I keep reading very different stories about when Tesla covers the repair, offers free alignment, or charges much less than in my area. It seems quite subjective depending on location or service center. I’m not sure why this isn’t treated as a defect, even outside warranty, especially since it’s not a cheap repair where I live.
what verbiage did you use when booking the inspection?
Did this for my M3 in the last 30 Days They provided me a report of all the things they checked (supposedly) and they found nothing wrong aside from tire wear which I knew was upcoming (48k miles on OEMs btw). In the words of Anakin Skywalker, “This is where the fun begins”.
It's a $190 fix normally + a wheel alignment that they should have done.
i had to pay 400 dollars for that inspection. the fault you are having is a known Tesla problem. Had it on all of my three Teslas - sometimes after not even a year. Now that guarantee is over, I am selling the cars.
Damn I paid 700€ was at out of basic warranty. I get issue around 86000km. They said tear and wear. So suspension not covered by warranty.
You can just buy the extended warranty for $50 a month.
NHTSA needs to issue a recall now! I've owned several cars in my lifetime and have never had to replace compliance links, lateral links, or control arms ever. I replaced them on my Model 3, and now my Y is going to need the same repair. These parts failing is so dangerous that eventually someone is going to die.
Just replaced mine out of warranty m3p 2019 54,500 miles— along with the left / right control arms — and it ran me $1700… and that was with some serious gratuity discounts they gave me.
Saved you $2500 plus they just tried to charge me for this yesterday. No joke congrats.
For your first question. No, nothing can stop them if they just want to say everything is okay. They could just check everything on a check list without looking at all. I guess you just don’t use the dealer if you don’t trust it. For your second question, I think it is the opposite. They now have the proof that the issue wasn’t there before the warranty expires.
You got a better deal than everyone else on this thread. You must have an incredible SC
I went to official inspection (Finland) just before warranty expired. My MYP failed inspection due to rear axle bushings which were then changed under warranty. Official inspection cost about 70 dollars. Mandatory inspection is due when car is 4 years old, 6 years and every year after that but you can go to inspection sooner if you want.
I would ALWAYS recommend owners do this.
Was there any cost?
The inspection was $528 plus a $100 copayment on the repairs. The $528 was higher than others have paid but that may have been due to it being in the extended warranty. In the end it was worth it to me.
Did they happen the check your low voltage circuit integrity?
I have mine scheduled for 2 weeks from now and this is what I’ve been quoted. I’m wondering if this is a SF Bay Area extra high price???
Bushings are wear items. They should be inspected regularly and replaced when necessary.
