Sell or keep my 17 X? Anyone in same boat?

DreamUnited9828 | 2026-02-22 16:03 | 24 views

In on the fence on this. Is anyone on the same boat and what is your thought process on the issue? Wish to keep since it’s a great car, smooth ride and no issues thus far. I’d lose money 6k off what I bought it for 6 months ago selling. Thinking of selling due to future scarcity and rising expense of parts, Elons management of the company feels ready unstable- it’s like he is entertaining any passing idea and though the product is solid the company feels haphazard and risky, planning getting a cheaper hybrid to save on gas/liability only insur (now I have full cov). I’d make the loss up in 2 years or so of holding a cheaper car. Just curious if anyone is in the same situation and is selling due to recent announcement?

Why would you sell it if youre not seeing any issues currently? Maybe wait til they become ACTUAL problems since you just bought the car.

eliasmicah 2026-02-22 16:08

Many of the parts are interchangeable, I doubt they get more expensive. I’m keeping my X until the wheels fall off

Generally a discontinued vehicle doesn’t mean discontinued parts. Remember these cars sold today are still under warranty for xx years.

Don’t let politics dictate your purchases. Enjoy the car. Parts will likely be available for a long time.

Thank you! Okay. That’s helpful!

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 16:25

Thank you

I’m an anxious persona and I often go to worst case scenario. It’s been helpful at times and harmful at others- that’s why I lean on crowdsourced ideas often to help ground me. It will be further deprecated if I sell when there are actual problems

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 16:26

Thank you!! 😊

jgilbs 2026-02-22 16:31

LOL. You bought a 9 year old car, how much more can it realistically depreciate?

Glum_Perception_1077 2026-02-22 17:04

You'll still be able to find parts and ppl to fix the car, how do you think antique cars are still running

PilotPirx73 2026-02-22 17:13

Is FSD purchased for this vehicle? If so, I would personally order a new Tesla before end of March and transfer FSD to new vehicle. That's just me, though. I would not pay attention to politics.

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 18:12

Thank you. You’re right but it would be a daily use vehicle unlike an antique. But you are right. And I’m leaning more to keeping it after reading these replies

webignition 2026-02-22 18:12

At which point you should still be able to buy new wheels to stick back on.

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 18:13

No there is no FSD on this vehicle. No packages at all other than ludicrous mode which - I mean, I drive like a granny so I don’t really use.

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 18:15

I assumed as much as any other old car… maybe it’s different as it’s luxury. It’s my second luxury vehicle, my last actually appreciated after selling!!!

THATS_LEGIT_BRO 2026-02-22 18:17

If you can afford dumping it, go ahead. But for me, it’s not worth losing a bunch of money because you hate Elon’s politics. It’s not hurting Elon. It’s only hurting you.

Glum_Perception_1077 2026-02-22 18:34

My mechanic father drives his antiques daily 😂 Keep it and enjoy it.

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-22 18:56

Thank you!!

You’re about to take a 6k loss for a hypothetical reason? There are safer 6k bets to make

bichicagoguy 2026-02-22 19:44

You won’t have an issues for years

remixedbyrichie 2026-02-22 19:59

Same my 2017 mX 100d has 52k miles.. FSD.. and is fully loaded.. I’m keeping her forever..

17 S here. I'm planning on driving the wheels off this car. I started charging at SC pretty much exclusively about a year ago to let Elon pay for my electricity. I have solar and batteries as well as a very beneficial EV rate locked in for another 10 years but I just want to give Elon the finger. I won't buy another Tesla because I believe Tesla has chosen to follow a bad strategy for self driving. After more than 10 years it should be obvious that vision only isn't a workable solution for self driving. If anything, a path using multiple types of sensors should have been adopted.

Mundane-Swimming-538 2026-02-26 02:42

You’ll be alright 👍🏼 I understand being cautious but people are buying them since Tesla won’t be making them anymore so they’ll have parts for you for at least 10 years. Let future you worry about it in 10 year but for now rest easy my friend.

DreamUnited9828 2026-02-26 11:40

Thank you 😊

Responsible_Tree3369 2026-02-26 11:52

There is no way I would keep a Tesla past the warranty point. You are just asking for continued repair costs. These are not reliable cars

Selling my 2015 model s85d (bought it new), and going for the bmw ix3. The model s has 370.000 km, and atm can only get a 200km out of a full battery. Its not enough, so changing to the ix3, wich has an aprox 800 km rating.
