Why the hell are chargers "pull up" and not "pull through" like gas pumps are?
A drive-through gas pump needs space in front and behind it to approach and leave. A parking space only needs one way for entry and exit, thus saving space. Since people will be staying at a charger a bit longer than at a gas pumpt, it makes sense to have more chargers available. We will see this change with higher charging rates becoming feasible.
Maybe that will be the new carwash/self-storage location. Those are popular because they allow landholders to build a revenue generating business with fairly low initial cost and almost zero overhead and ongoing costs (relative to almost any other business.) This seems like the same thing. Set it up once, a lot cheaper than any other business, then let it handle itself for the most part, with the revenue paying your mortgage/taxes on the land.

Its the high upkeeping cost to keep chargers running which cuts down your profit by A LOT, chargers break down all the time due to high usage and high voltage. As much shit as tesla get but they do a good job keeping the charging network up and running 99% of the time. My work place chargers seem to break down once every other week with just work hour charging, the electricians making a bank just fixing our work place chargers.
Just one more lane bro. Maybe have a city center one can leave without risking a DUI. I dunno, like a tram or something like that 🤣 One realizes. Or at least some destination chargers. So ppl can charge while they are partying?

Software solution to the noise - limit the audio volume when a Tesla has doors open (might already be a feature?) and limit volume when charging at a supercharger regardless of door open/closed state. This reduces the noise pollution around superchargers since these are only going to get more common.

It seems like one of the world's lousiest vending opportunities. Just looking at a single charging stall, max utilization is 48 charging sessions. But let's get real, no matter how crowded it is during normal hours, utilization will go down to zero after midnight. Max number of customers per charger is likely less than 20 per day. I could probably make more profit off an honor system firewood stand.
Sounds like they need signage like "No music audible outside the vehicle permitted, violators will be fined." And one-way entrance & exit to avoid blocking the street for residents. And more chargers in town so this site doesn't back up. Also, Plugshare needs to fix the address on their site.
This is a Tesla problem. Apartment dwellers who charge at my Electrify America station don't act like this.
Specific to this location the complaint here is excessive noise (both music and honking) and traffic blocking the street - after midnight on Friday and Saturday. So no, utilization at this location does not go to 0 after midnight, it goes to over 100%.
Ok, you've identified 1 location that sees an after closing bar crowd - representing 0.0128% of Tesla's supercharger stations. Maybe this is a stretch, but perhaps the vast majority of the other 7,999 stations don't see a similar after bar crowd. Its possible.

This is not a Tesla problem. This is a problem with any rowdy group of people located in the same area, people leaving bars near this specific charger, in case you didn’t read the article.
The article is focused on a very specific high demand location, not national chargng networks as a viable and scalable investment opportunity. I think location and LOCAL demand is all that matters here. I am not advocating to invest in national charing station build out. I am saying a local business, or property owner or parking lot can relieve a lot of this congestion and make money doing so. Most properties charging networks are based on business value outside of charging. Selling a meal, outside a bookstore, getting people into a mall. I am not sure that is viable for midnight parking. Perhaps a lot peddling vegan hotdogs whatever choice nightlife snacks sell in San Fran would work. End of day, I would wager, that a good number of people would be willing to pay higher rates or additional feels or pay for added services to cut this line and get charged. Someone will monetize this. The question is if local demand will continue to climb faster than capacity at this location or is this just a blip as supply works itself out.
This lot operates under a Conditional Use Permit. I don't know the exact renewal interval, but renewals have occurred in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024. I don't know if the absence on a 2023 or 2025 renewal means the interval has bumped from 1 year to 2 year...but it seems likely they will be required to renewed again this year. There is already one official complaint under investigation on this lot. I think odds are only 50/50 that this lot will continue to operate as a 24/7 operation. At a bare minimum, these renewal applications have a provision to require a security guard/attendant between 7:00 pm and 3:00 pm - explicitly to deal with bar crowds when within 1,000 feet of an entertainment venue. One of these bars is across the street - so the owner of this lot has been failing to do that, and will certainly be required to invest in security from here on out...actually costing them more money to operate during late hours. And (an assumption on my part) in my neck of the woods, private security is often staffed with off-duty police officers - which might chase away some of the drunk patrons of this station who have just left a bar and hopped into the driver's seat. Really, all of the "fun" of being drunk and loud and blaring music would go away.

That's because the rates are cheapest to charge at those times. So the trivial fix - requiring ZERO changes to infrastructure is... leave the overnight rates the same as daytime.
