Daniel Milligan, a Tesla owner and former SpaceX engineer, on Sunday posted video showing his car turning onto what turns out to be a boat ramp, and instead of slowing down, accelerates towards what would’ve been its watery grave, had the driver not hit the brakes. “I had to intervene,” Milligan wrote. “I’d like to see what it would’ve done, but at the speed it was going, it definitely felt like it was going to go for a swim.” Milligan explained his intended destination was a driveway about fifty feet away. He suspected the error had to do with the lighting conditions.

Too bad it wasn't Elron in the car.

LVegasGuy 2026-02-17 23:22

Elon has been secretly working on a U-boat.

Mickrolled

mrbuttsavage 2026-02-17 23:43

Even in The Office episode the GPS was correct.

MochingPet 2026-02-17 23:48

Couldn't have happened to a smarter bunch of drivers: persons who buy Tesla **and** activate FSD

wootnootlol 2026-02-17 23:53

I assume GPS was correct there too. But FSD knew better, as Michael.

razor_train 2026-02-17 23:53

Maybe the car mistook that pontoon as a Cybertruck and got horny.

Big_footed_hobbit 2026-02-18 00:07

Camera only based FSD sees the water as road.

calladus 2026-02-18 00:08

"But Tesla is the Best Selling Electric Car in the USA!" \~ Tesla bros.

kneejerk2022 2026-02-18 00:15

You know what is a bad idea? Making vehicles for humans while removing all human interfaces that could prevent accidents.

iftlatlw 2026-02-18 00:36

Elon knows who badmouths MAGA

iftlatlw 2026-02-18 00:37

Could it be that fsd is just a poor gimmick? The world is over Tesla and they are no longer leaders.

richincleve 2026-02-18 00:37

FSD: Fully Self Diving.

SKEPDIQ 2026-02-18 00:45

Once again, Elron’s stupid insistence on a cameras-only system is proven to be potentially deadly.

Pdx_pops 2026-02-18 00:52

Tries? It couldn't even complete this task?

luv2block 2026-02-18 01:06

Fully Submerged Drowning.

confused_ma 2026-02-18 01:08

FSD will bring in the next Trillion.

Furion86 2026-02-18 01:32

Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouth-breathing SCUBA diving!

Acrobatic_Code_7409 2026-02-18 01:45

Do or do not do; there is no try!!

JeffreyinKodiak 2026-02-18 03:14

Stocks rise 5%

Particular-Break-205 2026-02-18 04:01

FSD disengaged 0.0001 seconds before impact so it’s the driver’s fault /s

greentheonly 2026-02-18 04:18

yes, the UI is long ready! https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-james-bond-easter-egg-discovered/ (and yes, it's complete with renaming "Driver" everywhere in the UI to "Diver" too)

torokunai 2026-02-18 04:28

already has LOL

torokunai 2026-02-18 04:29

good thing FSD only needs to work during the day, in sunny (but not too sunny) weather

AincradResident 2026-02-18 04:41

Fully Supervised Driving

One-Welcome-1514 2026-02-18 05:31

The funniest thing: even just gps-based it would know it is a place you do not drive to.

fwilljr 2026-02-18 06:44

Scuba diving.... Or scuba driving?? 😆

Martin8412 2026-02-18 08:18

Just don’t let any female Swedish journalists come interview him aboard one

big_trike 2026-02-18 14:41

Teslas seem to get confused very easily. In addition to only cameras, the AI is either lacking enough training and processing power to do the job on a quickly moving vehicle. Tesla probably knows this internally, but as tech bros they move fast and break things.

GoldenBunip 2026-02-18 20:50

If your ever interested in the minimum computation requirement just look at nature. It’s had millions of years and a high selective pressure to do the most with as minimum as possibles A human brain is around 10e18 flops, 1/4 of this is just for visual recognition. 2.5e18 flops. That’s a whole clusters power not a single cars GPU, and that just to be as good a human at recognising the world around you. That why computer vision has to simplify everything so much and why it’s so prone to basic errors. Teslas have 1e13. Just 5 orders of magnitude less than a human.

Correct-Fly-1126 2026-02-18 23:11

Unfortunately in the case of Tesla, the “things” are people
