I believe that the fine line is that level 3+, if something happens, the manufacturer takes blame and has to pay/intercede. Level 2 it's still the driver. So I believe that Tesla autopilot will stay level 2 for a long time even if it can drive by itself pretty well with 0 human input. Still, I know that the main problem is that Musk's always promises things to be ready tomorrow and delivers maybe a part of it years down the line.

In just a few weeks we'll see a lot more red. It's interesting how he's no longer doing 2-3 year predictions, the only things left after this month will be a couple predictions for Dec 2026. It would be nice if there was a column that showed which of the old predictions are met by now. Yeah most of the "by 2018" didn't happen, but it's extra telling those things aren't here in 2025.

Perrone Robotics is now suing Tesla and other car manufacturers, for patent infringement, regarding its autonomous software. Funny thing is Perrone offered to sell it outright to Tesla in 2017. And Elon/Tesla declined.

I think that will be his downfall. When everything is 2 years away it's hard for people to keep track. It was long time away and still is. However when he says at the end of November that they will double the robotaxi count in December and that doesn't happen people remember. Same with driverless robotaxi before EOY. People still remember that claim.

I had two Teslas with FSD from 2018 to 2024. In the end I turned FSD off and used just lane keeping and dynamic cruise control. FSD was horrible. Hard braking for no reason. Aggressive driving that caused road rage in those near me. Barely works in the slightest bad weather. It wasn’t ready for anything except beta testing. I now drive a Cadillac Optiq with supercuise and it is better in every way except launching acceleration which only appeals to children anyway. Tesla’s 2018 lead was completely squandered. Almost every manufacturer has an EV offering superior to Tesla.

The sad part is people actually will do that. I know you think it’s dumb but that is the society we live in.

Not just is there no code to examine how good the ai model is, certain conditions are impossible for cameras to gauge, even movement/distances are a guess estimated on the difference between pictures 1 2 3. It's fundamental not capable to even approach sensor bases system. Would you trust "perhaps it might" with your life?

nah, the current FSD trial drove me from the Berkeley Hills the 200 miles home last Saturday and it was 99% great. Fell down making the transition onto 880 from 92 since its pre-planning was too slow & was too timid making the late merge, so I had to take over and do an LA-style freeway merge. Other than that I coulda slept the whole way, my hands were at my sides the whole time.

It’s seriously one of the best parts of the internet right now. Today I came across an acronym I didn’t recognize, so I googled it—which turned out to be completely pointless. All I got was inaccurate AI, irrelevant news, and ad after ad after ad. They fucking ruined google—it won’t even give you basic information anymore. But Wikipedia will! No ads, no bullshit, no laughably bad AI. And everything is so well-organized and well-sourced. There are flaws, but it is unbelievably refreshing to go there.
