A new one from the call today: "Tesla began a rollout of its paid pickup robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, and hopes to introduce the driverless cabs in several other cities soon. Musk has said he expects to have hundreds of thousands of the cabs on U.S. roads by the end of next year. "In the post-earnings call, Musk said **the service will be available to probably “half of the population of the U.S. by the end of the year** — that’s at least our goal, subject to regulatory approvals.” "He added, “We are being very cautious. We don’t want to take any chances.” [https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/binghamton/ap-top-news/2025/07/23/tesla-profit-plunges-in-latest-quarter-as-musks-turn-to-politics-continues-to-keep-buyers-away](https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/binghamton/ap-top-news/2025/07/23/tesla-profit-plunges-in-latest-quarter-as-musks-turn-to-politics-continues-to-keep-buyers-away)

Lol, when has Elon/Tesla, ever been cautious. Especially when it comes to safety.

Available to half the population of the US by the end of the year... lol does anyone actually believe that nonsense?

dsmith422 2025-07-24 00:35

That would only take 146 counties. Its implausible, but not as down right insane as his usual lies.

Glittering-Dare-5205 2025-07-24 00:55

I'm typing this from my tiny Tesla house on Mars connected through Starlink. He hasn't let me down once.

[deleted] 2025-07-24 01:12

Sorry, but what math are you using? 146 counties? They'll be lucky to roll out 146 cars by the end of the year...

LynchSyndromedotmil 2025-07-24 01:15

If the current iteration of robotaxi is available to half the population, no way it doesn’t unalive someone before the year is over.

MarchMurky8649 2025-07-24 01:26

He won't be able to afford it unless he gets rid of the safety drivers, in which case the unaliving will be on a much larger scale than some*one*.

dsmith422 2025-07-24 01:42

50% of the population of the US lives in the 146 most populous counties. [https://www.businessinsider.com/half-of-the-united-states-lives-in-these-counties-2013-9](https://www.businessinsider.com/half-of-the-united-states-lives-in-these-counties-2013-9)

[deleted] 2025-07-24 01:44

I still think they'll be lucky to get 146 cars on the road...

dsmith422 2025-07-24 01:59

I am not in any way saying that I believe Musk. He always over promises and under delivers. But Waymo could serve half the US population relatively quickly because they only need to test their cars and maps in those counties. And they have already probably mapped everything in them from Google Maps.

[deleted] 2025-07-24 02:06

I don't doubt waymo at all... Their tech actually works. I simply believe that tesla desire to roll out robotaxi is doomed. With teslas current tech, I don't see them ever being able to roll it out at all. Without the perfect daylight weather conditions, they simply can't risk it.

Pack of lies from a serial liar and con man.

FlyingArdilla 2025-07-24 03:03

Watch out for those airlock seals. They're held in with bathtub caulk. One bad cycling and there goes your air.

Glittering-Dare-5205 2025-07-24 06:05

The seal sensors are paired with my Neuralink and shut down breathing if the seals are compromised. It also automatically summons the Tesla Roadster in orbit, which has been updated with HW4 and serves as the galaxy's first Robotaxi. Optimus is at my door in 30 minutes or less to make it good as new or my next solar roof is free.

No

Apprehensive-Box-8 2025-07-24 08:07

https://insideevs.com/news/766820/tesla-promises-unsupervised-fsd-again-2025/ Now… how would you get regulatory approval for that, but not for ride hailing? I’m confused.

ShaftManlike 2025-07-24 13:07

Before the DAY is over.

y4udothistome 2025-07-24 14:22

Do you have a humanoid robot with you

y4udothistome 2025-07-24 14:23

What he meant to say is we can’t afford any more lawsuits

Silent_Confidence_39 2025-07-24 21:03

When they removed all yellow from factories because Elon doesn’t like yellow

ionizing_chicanery 2025-07-25 03:37

It's going to take a lot more than simply having a non-zero number of cars in an entire county to really qualify as being available.

Here's another - Twitter was to do 28 Billion in Revenue by 2028, he told investors who gave him money to help him finance it. 28 Billion in Revenue. It is on track to do less than 10% of that....and it's headed down from there. This isn't just a regular everyday failure - it's massive. It's not even in the ballpark. It amazes me how folks can look at the Solar Biz (never had 1% of the US Market - general failure), the Boring Co (virtually total failure), Twitter and the FSD BS and think "magically he will pull through". He built a car company - the regular, normal technology and size rockets worked (of course, others did that - thousands of people in rocketry that didn't want to work in defense gladly helped).... But, we now have a LONG run of total failures. Worse yet, we have lies. We have an out-of-control person fiddling with people's lives (DOGE and what is left of it) and so on. The sooner our soceity rids itself of this AH, the better. Let him just quiet down and try to do something real.
