Truebelievers, they will sink to the very bottom and won't admit everything was vaporwares

Practical-Cow-861 2025-07-04 01:27

I honestly do not understand why he chose to finally give them the carrot so they can see it's rotten. The stick was working just fine.

GhostofBreadDragons 2025-07-04 01:35

Someone has to be left holding the bag.

SigSweet 2025-07-04 01:42

And there is SO MUCH vaporware in tech.

HereWeGo5566 2025-07-04 01:49

They like the rotten carrot just fine. I was watching two people who were trying out the robo taxi and reviewing their experience. The car randomly dropped them in the middle of nowhere because it thought there was a storm coming. (Apparently they can’t operate in a storm?) They stood around trying to summon another taxi before the storm hit. A while later the same exact taxi came and picked them up. And they were still like, “it was great!”

theKetoBear 2025-07-04 01:49

Even the Wizard of Oz wanted to believe his "magic" did some real good eventually.  He was always  just a man sitting behind  a curtain wielding  an entirely  too big machine

chat-lu 2025-07-04 02:00

> (Apparently they can’t operate in a storm?) Or in the dark. The combination is very gremlin-like. Don’t get them wet, don’t feed them at night.

StellarJayZ 2025-07-04 02:05

Can you imagine, with those stipulations, anyone putting money down on YES?

m0nk_3y_gw 2025-07-04 02:20

I clicked through to the actual website, safety monitors are ok > A human may be present in the vehicle or monitoring remotely for emergency intervention, but they must not be physically positioned to take control (for example, no safety driver in the driver’s seat) and must not actively steer, brake, accelerate, or otherwise drive the car under normal operation. they got boned because it was restricted to "closed-beta participants"

MrGelowe 2025-07-04 02:26

Yeah these fools https://youtu.be/edEpCjk6Skw?si=5VuajMLzMJmivEXj&t=283

dc21111 2025-07-04 02:26

There will always be more carrots and excuses why the carrot is rotten. Look at the Semi. Did he ever admit they fucked up with that one? Nope. First there wasn’t a factory, production priority went to the Model Y, then not enough cells. Semi was supposed to revolutionize trucking instead its occasionally hauling frito lay chips around Northern California.

ad-astra-specta 2025-07-04 02:30

Now that you bring it up, Elon's face *is* a bit gremlin-like.

StellarJayZ 2025-07-04 02:50

Yeah, but attempting to legalese between "tester" and "customer" is not going to fly.

3-2-1-backup 2025-07-04 03:30

Is that the creepy doll chick? WTF++.

FlipZip69 2025-07-04 03:36

God I would have bet a large sum on NO. Wish I knew about this beforehand.

HanzJWermhat 2025-07-04 03:38

Could have kept the grift up for at least another 5 years. Waymo is good but isn’t going to replace all taxi drivers anytime soon. As long as the completion isn’t fulfilling the promises Elon made he can keep grifting

Far-Fennel-3032 2025-07-04 03:40

I think the problem was that Waymo was actually visibly rolling out robotaxis and is just now starting the exponential growth and going international this year. If Waymo get another 12 months ahead start, it's going it be in several major cities in the USA, and at that point, Tesla will increasingly look like a joke, and at that point, due to the head start and nature of accelerating rollouts will mean waymo until saturation will always seem so far a head as Waymo would likely always be two or three doubling cycles a head going forwards. With Tesla needing this to justify its existence, it can't afford to be left behind, and the company has to go now and go hard to try to catch up to Google. If Google didn't start its rollout, I suspect Tesla would have been perfectly fine saying it was 12 months out from starting for a decade or until someone else got into Google's current position.

RagingDemonsNoDQ 2025-07-04 03:44

Elon didn't need to. Elon HAD to. Elon thought the Robotaxi thing would rehab his image, and people would love him again. Remember. Elon is an idiot. People are going to remember all of his shit.

DhOnky730 2025-07-04 03:54

so how much money was wagered on poly market? I'd like to know how much was won/lost on this.

dtyamada 2025-07-04 04:02

Came here expecting they were gonna lose money cuz somehow the stock was gonna get closer to accurate. But nope, because they bet yes. Almost more satisfying since the bets didn't pay out, almost.

Distantstallion 2025-07-04 04:12

I wonder if hes cashing out

babypho 2025-07-04 05:13

Ok but why would you bet for an on time delivery from someone that has notoriously missed deadlines (roadster anyone?).

VitaminPb 2025-07-04 05:15

Elon is such an idiot, he thinks his fanbois reflect how everybody sees him.

Withnail2019 2025-07-04 05:41

Yup.

JaJ_Judy 2025-07-04 06:03

$315 friends - what losses?

xtothewhy 2025-07-04 06:08

And yet the stock relatively holds for the time being after recently rebounding yet again

teeming-with-life 2025-07-04 06:27

I saw that video! I didn't realize that they were picked up by the exact same car. That's hilarious! It was cringy to watch them simp like that, but this twist makes it funny.

Sea_Abbreviations334 2025-07-04 08:19

But safety monitors can actively brake with their tablet so that sounds like positioned to take control to me.

Sea_Abbreviations334 2025-07-04 08:30

$9 million lost

Enough-Meaning1514 2025-07-04 09:59

The piece is an opinionated piece but I fear Elon is the king of snake-oil salesman and he will somehow manage to convince the investors and the board that his genius ideas will turn the ship around. And given the fact that Tesla sales in China have gone up first time since September last year, there might be merit. I wish it wasn't, but there it is...

luv2block 2025-07-04 10:26

They are getting fucked by Elon and Peter Theil (major investor in polymarket, may even have majority ownership); you got two billionaire taking you to the cleaners.

edspeds 2025-07-04 10:36

I’ll take your word for it don’t want to give them anymore views

North-Outside-5815 2025-07-04 11:12

They must be cooking the books in China. Buying their own cars, I bet.

Enough-Meaning1514 2025-07-04 11:17

I don't know brother. There was an investigation in Canada for cooking the books but as far as I know, nothing came out of it. Shame really...

User-no-relation 2025-07-04 11:30

Read the story linked. It has the poly market fine print which is no testers,**no closed invite customers, no beta testers**

ZincII 2025-07-04 11:43

If my Tesla bros are anything to go by they think it's great and are still all-in.

[deleted] 2025-07-04 11:48

Are they still doing rides or is the trial over?

radiostarred 2025-07-04 12:25

My (limited) understanding of EV Semis is that the battery weight severely reduces range and hauling capacity, which are two things that are pretty important for long-haul trucking. EV Semis might have a place for a last-mile distribution or for very light products (like, say, bags filled with potato chips and air), but this is a niche application. At the current tech they’re not going to be replacing good ol’ diesel as a trucking staple any time soon.

One-Bit5717 2025-07-04 12:40

Sort of. The reason they haul chips is the max weight limit on the roads. The electric semi is about twice as heavy as a regular diesel truck, thus all that weight must be subtracted from the freight. Which allows something silly like 3-5 tons to be hauled by this joke. Going by memory, but that's roughly the numbers.

mishap1 2025-07-04 12:49

His hubris has led to him firing executives proffering the slightest dissent. The rest are interns he sexually harassed and promoted to senior executives because he wants them to have his babies.

North-Outside-5815 2025-07-04 13:49

It’s early days yet on that one. Courts work slowly.

account_for_norm 2025-07-04 13:56

There's a new carrot: optimus!

homoiconic 2025-07-04 14:06

The payout has been frozen while the full investigation takes place, so with respect to Tesla's cash flow, nothing has come out of Canada.

Pangolin_farmer 2025-07-04 14:08

Not everything is vaporware. The cars are fine, it’s just the other 90% of the market cap that’s vaporware.

zippopopamus 2025-07-04 14:16

The cars are fine and current maybe 10 years ago, not now

Pangolin_farmer 2025-07-04 14:39

I mean, despite their shoddy fit and finish and lack of updates they are still fine. They’re not good, but they’re good enough to keep the company profitable. With the EV tax credit going away I assume that will no longer be the case by Q4, but it is the case for now.

nlaak 2025-07-04 15:12

> I mean, despite their shoddy fit and finish and lack of updates they are still fine. Why would you discount the quality of their primary product? >They’re not good, but they’re good enough to keep the company profitable. Ehh, I don't think so. There are much better EVs out there now, and soon the market is going to have a glut of them. The BYDs are going to crush Tesla.

Pangolin_farmer 2025-07-04 15:33

I mean, as of right now Tesla is profitable selling cars. That is my line for “good enough.” They are selling cars and making money doing it. I’m in complete agreement that it’s a shit company and insanely over valued. But they make money selling cars, that is not an arguable point, that is a fact. I think that is going to change very soon, but me thinking it will happen doesn’t magically make it true buddy.

Annual_Union33 2025-07-04 15:56

Robotaxi is a no on polymarket Yeah, stock goes up

reaven3958 2025-07-04 17:11

I used to have a Y, and having experienced the quality drop in autopilot after they bricked radar, I would not feel safe in a fully automated tesla. I wouldn't even feel safe driving near one, I avoid them on the road whenever possible.

OneEyeSam 2025-07-04 17:38

O.........M.........F..........G...........................It has been 10 minutes and I am still not recovering from THE CRINGE from watching that video. That they are Elmo worshippers surprises me not.

GrapeFew1860 2025-07-04 21:01

Yeah i watched one that plowed over a speed bump going full speed and Went into oncoming traffic as well. The Tesla bros in the video were saying how amazing it worked. While also having to have a guy in the front seat to take over. Meanwhile wayno has no front seat driver and is doing just fine

GrapeFew1860 2025-07-04 21:04

Remember the electric planes and the rockets that were going to take people from one part of the world to another in mere minutes. Lol. My coworker still think musk is getting people to mars in 2028 lol

GrapeFew1860 2025-07-04 21:07

Lol. That thing is hilariously bad

GrapeFew1860 2025-07-04 21:12

No. All their money comes from selling carbon credits. everything about them are shit. From the paint to the interior to the cheap parts they use. Ever wonder why the windshield expands all the way back to the middle of the top of the car? Cause class is cheaper than having a metal roof. Every part is cheaped out on

Pangolin_farmer 2025-07-05 00:20

And they earn carbon credits by selling cars. My god I hate Tesla just as much as anyone. Elon is an absolute fucking chode and the only explanations for the company’s valuation are either fraud/manipulation or an enormous army of idiots with money propping up the stock. Truth is probably a combination of the two. None of how I or you feel about the company or the cars can change the reality that *the cars are good enough to keep Tesla profitable for the time being*. Model Y is the best selling car in the world. We can argue why that is but the fact that it is can’t be argued. Jfc, so militantly against what I’m saying just because I’ve been misidentified as some kind of Elon dong sucker. Actually read what I’m saying dude.

GrapeFew1860 2025-07-05 00:25

Actually model y is not the best selling car in the world. And carbon credits are the only reason they are profitable. U sure sound like an Elon chode

ephix 2025-07-05 02:56

Waymo’s are dorky? Who cares it’s not like she owns it. You know what’s dorky? Caring that no one noticed that their taxi was driverless.

buff_butler 2025-07-05 03:19

Read the article 🙃

Pangolin_farmer 2025-07-05 03:43

You’re a chode

YamaToraBro 2025-07-05 17:09

The board doesn't need convincing, they are getting hundreds of millions from the stock every few months.

lovetocook966 2025-07-05 23:06

The face of drug addiction.

coulombis 2025-07-07 02:24

The CT was awful enough so what they think would be different about the Robotaxi?
