Tesla update

ChollyWheels | 2025-07-03 20:36 | 78 views

None of this will be a surprise to anyone here. I sent it to a "Brighter with Herbert" fan -- the type that sees every Tesla development as a sign Musk is a far seeing genius, every move brilliant, proof that Tesla is far ahead, and trillion$ are inevitable. No response so far... To me, the most devastating single fact is not even Tesla finds its humanoid robots actually useful. ========== How would you say it's going? Still think the billion Tesla spends every month on AI will prove the key factor despite of all evidence things are not going well? \[1\] [https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/tesla-elon-musk-robotaxi-robots-95ae80a4](https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/tesla-elon-musk-robotaxi-robots-95ae80a4) The electric-vehicle maker has an **aging lineup** and slumping sales, but its CEO has shifted his focus to robotaxis and robots \[2\] [https://electrek.co/2025/07/03/tesla-optimus-shambles-head-of-program-exits-production-delayed/](https://electrek.co/2025/07/03/tesla-optimus-shambles-head-of-program-exits-production-delayed/) Tesla’s humanoid robot program, Optimus, is reportedly in disarray amid the departure of the senior vice president in charge, Milan Kovac. Production has been delayed due to a new redesign**, as the robot has yet to prove useful in Tesla’s factories**. \[3\] [https://electrek.co/2025/07/02/tesla-confirms-cybertruck-sales-are-down-to-just-5000-units/](https://electrek.co/2025/07/02/tesla-confirms-cybertruck-sales-are-down-to-just-5000-units/) Tesla confirms Cybertruck sales are down to just \~5,000 units \[4\] [https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/hybrid-electric/a65210102/tesla-robo-taxi-supervisor/](https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/hybrid-electric/a65210102/tesla-robo-taxi-supervisor/) Tesla’s fleet of Robotaxis will have a safety monitor in the passenger seat to intervene when needed. The fleet of Robotaxis will use Tesla Model Y vehicles instead of the two-seat “Cybercab” that Elon Musk originally promised. \[5\] [https://electrek.co/2025/06/25/whoopsie-uh-oh-oh-my-heres-all-the-gaffes-and-goofs-by-tesla-robotaxi-so-far/](https://electrek.co/2025/06/25/whoopsie-uh-oh-oh-my-heres-all-the-gaffes-and-goofs-by-tesla-robotaxi-so-far/)

Elmo is the biggest problem with Tesla, nearly everybody hates him!!

bpm6666 2025-07-03 20:53

These things wouldn't be a problem, if the the PE-Ratio wouldn't be at 200.

North-Outside-5815 2025-07-03 21:06

He has also destroyed the company's actual value. The cars have turned into cheaply built garbage with inflated lies about range. Self driving is a scam. The new roster is a scam. Their "superior battery tech" is a scam...

vietomatic 2025-07-03 21:12

Only 5 bullet points? Should be 1000+

SolutionWarm6576 2025-07-03 21:24

Tesla insurance and their power wall division are also losing money now too. Not to mention, multiple lawsuits.

YouOk5736 2025-07-03 21:27

Elon should've just focused on his businesses rather than partake in politics.

DisastrousIncident75 2025-07-03 21:29

Except for the fanboys using FSD and endangering the public

ChollyWheels 2025-07-03 21:38

Except Elon in business is the problem. It's not just politics. Musk's original plan was eventually to sell an inexpensive model - the "model 2" with unboxed manufacturing. But he abandoned that. Abandoned Lidar. Spends a billion a month on AI, and meanwhile still has to purchase most of his batteries from China. I give him GREAT credit for the first mass produced profitable EVs - in effect reviving the GM EV-1 (well, funding the Tesla founders who had that idea). He changed the world, and greatly accelerated EV acceptance. Then he got lost in AI and robot and Mars fantasies from some 1940s comic book.

Solopist112 2025-07-03 21:46

* Market Cap (intraday)1.016T * PE Ratio (TTM)181.24 * EPS (TTM)1.74

GhostofBreadDragons 2025-07-03 21:55

Missed out that the Big Bag of Bullshit bill passed in the house.  That removes the EV credit and the Solar credit. That is billions in incentives that just disappeared.

DietOfKerbango 2025-07-03 21:57

The vertical take off and landing in my new Roadster has been amazing though.

BenMic81 2025-07-03 22:06

The biggest problem for Tesla is its cult following. They destroy any chance of a turnaround by getting rid of a failed CEO

BenMic81 2025-07-03 22:07

Actually they could turn into a real problem even with a realistic evaluation.

Radarhog1976 2025-07-03 22:20

Tesla just lost its ability to turn a profit. FOREVER!

Radarhog1976 2025-07-03 22:21

Never profitable again!!!!!!

Secret-Revolution172 2025-07-03 22:32

The only thing keeping tsla in the black are those sweet juicy welfare tax credits. Kiss those good buy. Now the swasticar are 7500$ more expensive. I can see lower sales than they are now. But the. The stock prob be up 25% on these negative news

ChollyWheels 2025-07-03 22:49

I see the Swasticar as a heroic failure -- I actually love the look of it, but way too expensive, too big, lousy range, too heavy, not the promised "exoskeleton." And the aluminum chassis maybe too fragile for hauling. Still... I give him points for steer-by-wire (without steering column) and not looking like anything else. Sure, it's REALLY creepy, but whatever car manufacturer can make that claim? If Musk wasn't spending a billion a month on AI he could totally redesign the thing, ready for production when much better batteries become available in the near future. But he probably won't. If Tesla was set up for 200k units a year (as claimed) but is only selling fewer than 20,000 a year, gonna be a helluva write-off. And how drive-able will it be once it's no longer getting software updates?

Red-FFFFFF-Blue 2025-07-03 22:58

Going to be 300 something after earnings.

Red-FFFFFF-Blue 2025-07-03 23:10

Optimus… limited battery life. 😝 No shit! It doesn’t have dual Hydrogen Fuel Cells like a T-850 Terminator.

Red-FFFFFF-Blue 2025-07-03 23:13

Sounds like Zuckerberg and his stupid Metaverse he wasted Billions $$$ on. Like the worst MMORPG of all time.

Red-FFFFFF-Blue 2025-07-03 23:16

Didn’t the steer by wire glitch on that high school basketball player?

It's weird how little Tesla seems to be held to normal standards. In the ordinary situation, a Tesla boast about trillion$ from Optimus robots would be backed by specific use cases, pre-orders to justify production capacity, a roadmap for future features, partnerships for future developments. Instead what Tesla sells is the idea it's "common sense" they will be able to do whatever humans can do, no limits... Even by the standards of scam, it falls short. Hire a few science fiction writers... robots devoted to just repairing robots.... robot soldiers for Ukraine... story telling robots with the optional singing feature -- full self singing! How about a robot just to give you a full body scan, checking for skin cancer (I've had medical check-ups for decades and no human doctor ever checked!)

Ragnarok-9999 2025-07-04 01:45

"safety monitor in the passenger seat" is genius move. Now responsibility for saftey is moved to passenger

[deleted] 2025-07-04 01:48

https://www.wired.com/2014/06/infiniti-q50-steer-by-wire/ Infiniti could make the claim for steer by wire. Also, probably designed redundancies into the system for safety (unlike Tesla)

demonlag 2025-07-04 02:13

The safety monitor in the passenger seat is just hilarious. He's there, but he's not in any position to do anything but stop the car.

demonlag 2025-07-04 02:15

They can't robotaxi a single lane loop where they are the only cars.

fastwriter- 2025-07-04 05:18

Tesla did not invent it or develop it. So why so People always give Musk credit for things he has not done?

fastwriter- 2025-07-04 05:19

But I bet they still can explode like one.

mythorus 2025-07-04 05:38

Every single bullet point is another +5% on the stock market - but still nobody tries to know the realistic value of this company

HystericalSail 2025-07-04 06:06

Humans are no longer trading stocks on Wall Street. It's just algorithms programmed to buy every time Tesla is mentioned in the news with the assumption that the mention is positive. These algorithms don't care about things like earnings, or sanity. They just assume the cult will continue buying every time they're reminded Tesla exists.

Joe_Vanelli 2025-07-04 07:06

The thing with ‚geniuses‘ like musk is - they do not let anybody grow in their shadows. The company got through with a lot of bullshit because they were at the right place at the right time and had the balls to go through with it. But in the long run it is a shallow one product company with not enough resources to reinvent itself and that is a mandatory thing for a company that size. You know why all the big automotive companies are still here? Because they exactly know how to do this. And they have a focus on design and actually usefulness. Tesla has a good drivetrain and batteries trapped in a very poorly designed car.

ChollyWheels 2025-07-04 07:44

I rented a Model 3 a bunch of times, and I must confess I loved it - despite the ridiculous reliance on a central screen. I don't now about its reliability and fit-and-finish issues, but for a weekend it was really fun. And whatever the merits of Tesla's "tabless" batteries and upcoming plans to manufacture older generation LPF batteries, Tesla seems to be falling behind in the battery game, and (for now) buys the great majority of its batteries. And I don't think resources are the problem. Tesla supposedly spends a BILLION a MONTH on AI -- in the hope AI will solve FDS and Optimus shortcomings. But... \> Right place at the right time and had the balls to go through with it FWIW, I agree with that 100%. \> The thing with ‚geniuses‘ like musk is - they do not let anybody grow in their shadows Agree with that too. The 1940s era fantasies about Mars and AI and robots -- steering the car company into the delusion it is not a car company -- will be its doom. It won't be able to compete as a car company, and it's because of over-reliance on a "visionary." The problem with success from longshots is it convinces the Musk types they know better than everyone else. ADVISO: reality incoming. Tesla deserves what's coming, but it's unfortunate for the country. The EV industry he helped spawn will go on.

Joe_Vanelli 2025-07-04 08:47

We are on the same page. Don‘t get me wrong. I own a model y. Good car. But the design is lazy - or too much (glove box, wipers etc) and all at the cost of the costumer. Holzhausen or whatever his name is is not a good designer. He wants to sell lazy designs as revolutionary when they are not. Cybertruck is awful, model s, x, y and 3 are ok but very conservative and no risk is taken. I am not very optimistic on this - and tbh i hope they get bought by someone focusing on cars and/or transportation within a planet.

Withnail2019 2025-07-04 09:42

>The cars have turned into cheaply built garbage What do you mean 'turned into'? They've been pieces of shit from day one.

Withnail2019 2025-07-04 09:43

>ready for production when much better batteries become available in the near future. But those are all made in China.

Withnail2019 2025-07-04 09:50

There's never been any demand for a cheap lower spec Tesla and they can't build one profitably anyway. It was always a non starter.

Ok_Side9870 2025-07-04 11:17

He's great at starting companies, atrocious at running them.

North-Outside-5815 2025-07-04 12:43

I disagree. The original founders of Tesla actually did revolutionary work for the time. Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning were behing the original roadster, built on a Lotus chasiss, and the plans for the Model S. They were actually revolutionary, visionary vechicles, though Musk did get to fuck with even the roadster already. Early Model S cars had a lot of physical controls for the driver, and use good quality German components. As Musk has gotten to ”optimise” the business, things have gotten cheaper and scammier year after year.

\> is it will drop very fast and unexpectedly Could be. People are adaptable - supporting Hitler, longer after that made sense -- sending boys to confront Russian tanks on the last march, entering Berlin. Then poof! No more Nazis. They were never Nazis. Zealots until the rules change, taking memory with it. Of all the mysteries of human behavior, one without an answer is when a delusion breaks. This is an impossible subject on which to get specific without causing offense, since one person's claim of delusion is another's faith -- whether in Musk, bitcoin, Jim Jones, or the brilliant finance of investment trusts (precursor to mutual funds, thought to be safe by allowing investment in a bundle) which not long after 1929 became worthless. There's not much of a cult (as far as I know) for the ancient Gods of Rome, or whoever the Mesopotamians put their faith in, but others almost as old are still with us. Typically, the failure of a saint does not end his career -- like those cults predicting arrival of a spaceship, due to arrive in a particular hour of a particular day, ready to take the faithful away. The day comes and goes -- dang, wrong day! But the cult re-predicts, and persists. Like FSD, this time, for sure! year after year. It's the mystery of faith -- the pride in belief in defiance of facts.

Infamous_Tour_2232 2025-07-06 21:56

How was your delivery experience?

dharmoslap 2025-07-07 11:31

Subsidies in US will now expire this September - add that to the list.

ChollyWheels 2025-07-07 11:41

The "Brighter with Herbert" cult is self-enchanted into the belief that Tesla's brilliant moves are about to blossom in to trillions of revenue. With vastly superior AI, it will rule with FSD, and robots for everyone. What can do they do? EVERYTIHING. Meanwhile, as you point out, the directly contrary view -- yes, the stars are aligning, and they do not look favorable.
