Monitoring autonomous cars is something everyone does, it's just sensible no matter how good the system is (not saying teslas systems are good..). Though, one person inside each car for monitoring is just a sign that you should pick another taxi company for your trip. Elon originally hyped crewed missions to mars by 2024. Recently he hyped mars 2026 before the starship exploded, not after (though not surprised if he restated it somewhere for stock price purposes) I personally had "stable low earth orbit" as a realistic goal for them by end of 2025, and maybe in-orbit refuelling in 2026, but starship is just looking harder and harder to get right. Best payload delivery so far was a singular banana landed gently in the indian ocean.

There are no safety DRIVERS in the car. There is a safety guy, to make sure the right people are getting into the car, and that they leave when the ride is over, and that they aren't setting shit on fire. They don't have driving controls - they are bouncers, not drivers.

Last night we saw a Waymo northbound on Lamar then on sb, both at 5th. Then one pulled up next to us at the light. When we got to our restaurant a couple pulled up in one. So we saw way mo autonomous taxis Saturday night than all of Austin saw of Robotaxis saw today.

Wouldn't put it past Tesla to hide pedals on the passenger side and the wheel can be operated from the passenger side anyways.

There are many other working on driverless cars and the technology will keep Improving. At some point it will be far safer than many humans. I think 5 years is a reasonable guess. As for Mars, there are others working on space technology as well. I think Musks timetable is absurd and dangerous. But maybe in 10 years if There is a real push and done responsibly and might be done safely.
