Might not work in inclement weather. Amazing.

ryanidsteel 2025-06-20 12:46

Should we expect any more?

takumososa 2025-06-20 12:47

It’s comedy, it’s real life satire

JRLDH 2025-06-20 12:48

All of this would be perfectly fine if they hadn't bloviated so much for the last 7 years how their top notch AI is vastly better than humans and that the competition is cheating with geofencing. And now they launch a "service" with an employee sitting in the car with you to intervene and with another employee on a remote control and with another employee in a separate Tesla right behind your "robotaxi" and it's limited to a few geofenced pre-mapped roads in Austin and it's limited to good weather and it's limited to select customers who need to get an invitation to ride and it's limited to 10 cars total. That's the definition of pathetic.

Samjamesjr 2025-06-20 12:49

Embarrassing.

Law_of_the_jungle 2025-06-20 12:50

"So what do you do for work" "I'm Tesla's scapegoat for their self-driving technology"

AceMcLoud27 2025-06-20 12:50

🤣

th3bigfatj 2025-06-20 12:51

Launched for optics only.  And will only fool the fools

squirtelee 2025-06-20 12:51

Calls it is

PortlandPetey 2025-06-20 12:52

Wait, what? So there is going to be a person sitting in the front passenger seat? Why not the drivers seat? Can riders who pay for the service sit in the drivers seat, or are these effectively just two person taxis, or 3 if you want to squeeze in the back seat?

jregovic 2025-06-20 12:52

It still boggles my mind that people paid real money, probably mostly financed, for “full self driving”. Tesla took all of that money under the promise that they would be able to do something more than Waymo. r/elonmusk will have a circle jerk over this launch, even though it flies in the face of their cult leader’s prior statements. Bullish for the stock though.

Pineapplepizzaracoon 2025-06-20 12:55

Don’t talk to Barry he is just there to watch. He likes to watch.

TheMightyBattleCat 2025-06-20 12:55

This is genuinely hilarious. Rumour of 10 cars, safety driver in passenger seat, geofenced to a tiny area, only available to super stans and employees, weather permitting.

Ok-Bill3318 2025-06-20 12:57

Robotaxi except it has 3 supervisor humans plus geofence

[deleted] 2025-06-20 12:57

"Participants must be courteous and respectful; unsafe or disrespectful behavior may lead to termination." This has "unfriendly country"-vibes. Sounds like something Putin would say. If you're not pro-Elmo or say nice things about Robotaxi immediately after your ride, you'll face consequences!

Horror_Response_1991 2025-06-20 12:59

Gotta keep fooling people to keep the stock price high in hopes they can pivot to AI or something else, the grift never stops

Trick_Judgment2639 2025-06-20 12:59

Man that's just a worse regular taxi, what a moron

[deleted] 2025-06-20 12:59

Peak automation right there.

zombieda 2025-06-20 13:03

.. and a human  "RoboGuide" assistant  that walks in front of the vehicle with direction flags.

WelderAcademic6334 2025-06-20 13:04

Wouldn’t a train be similarly considered “self driving”? They have set track, limited places they can go, and a driver in the front to supervise.

IcestormsEd 2025-06-20 13:07

"Did we just run a red light?!* "Don't ask me! Am just here to monitor." "Stupid robo-t.." "HEY! YOU CANT TALK TO LUCY LIKE THAT!!" "........"

[deleted] 2025-06-20 13:08

[deleted]

DreadpirateBG 2025-06-20 13:08

Remember when Elon was bashing other self driving programs like GM’s for using mapped road etc. and here we are with this offering. Elon can not learn and shut up. They should be implementing radar improving their already decent system with Lidar and then see how it goes. They could have done this years ago when they still had Lidar in the cars. They wanted to try camera only great, but at some point they should pivoted back and seen how much better it would have been with Lidar mixed in. We all are sure that there is a director (Elon) saying make it work with just cameras. And then a bunch of engineers saying ok fine it’s your circus

TaifmuRed 2025-06-20 13:09

Tesla is up another 8 dollars pre market. You haters are missing out all the gains!

Radiant_Classroom509 2025-06-20 13:11

Fully automated robotaxi (human supervised) Can drive in any conditions (not those conditions) Safer than human drivers (blind human drivers) Enjoy the privacy of a self driving car (fully monitored)

zedk47 2025-06-20 13:11

Human Robotaxi

L3Niflheim 2025-06-20 13:12

And stonks to the moon as investers are morons

TurnoverSuperb9023 2025-06-20 13:12

I too think it’s ridiculous how Elon‘s timelines have fallen short, or should I say, Long, so many times, but I’m not gonna give them a hard time for making a choice that focuses on safety here.

kahner 2025-06-20 13:12

we'll see if the stock price remains impervious to bad news today.

Any-Following6236 2025-06-20 13:13

Elon knows what makes the stock tick. Just keep the illusion alive by having these overhyped events. He can always talk about the future.

L3Niflheim 2025-06-20 13:14

And the "Robotaxi" is just another Tesla car not a new vehicle?

justinpaulson 2025-06-20 13:14

Excluding airports? That’s the only time I uber.

ObviouslyJoking 2025-06-20 13:15

I wonder how much of this is based on the CEO being a massive cunt publicly, and engaging in toxic politics, encouraging a large portion of the world to despise him. Like are they afraid that people will be hailing them just so they can take a shit on the back seat?

P0Rt1ng4Duty 2025-06-20 13:16

So it's about as technologically advanced as a senile horse.

PortlandPetey 2025-06-20 13:17

Hahaha. Brant can’t watch or he has to pay 100

StellarJayZ 2025-06-20 13:18

So, like a driver? A taxi driver? So it's a regular taxi.

Temporary-Soup6124 2025-06-20 13:18

haaaaaaaa!

luv2block 2025-06-20 13:19

We can cut at least $2 trillion I think. Ya, at least $2 trillion. [fast forward 4 months] We successfully cut $150 million, but given the operating budget went up more than that, in essence, we didn't cut even $1.

[deleted] 2025-06-20 13:19

Nazi Garbage

Prior-Flamingo-1378 2025-06-20 13:21

It also has two safety pedals and a safety wheel that you have to constantly monitor.

ryanidsteel 2025-06-20 13:21

I think anyone who has been tracking this knows how flawed vision-based is. This is a typical Tesla mentality of "We found a brick wall, now let's smash our heads on it until we break it"

Brave_Nerve_6871 2025-06-20 13:22

Yep. As soon as it starts raining heavily, you're stranded

sanjosanjo 2025-06-20 13:23

"termination" sounds so ominous.

Scanner771_The_2nd 2025-06-20 13:23

They will lose without Lidar or something similar.

HillarysFloppyChode 2025-06-20 13:23

Mean while Waymo has been driverless and expanding to more and more cities.

Prior-Flamingo-1378 2025-06-20 13:23

And get the stock surges. I’m fairly certain at this point it’s the systemic that are propping it up because they are too exposed to it. Retail investors can’t have that much power.

robottiporo 2025-06-20 13:23

3 humans driving a single car. How can Uber ever compete with this?

ColossusofNero 2025-06-20 13:24

Sooooo, a regular taxi.

SugoiHubs 2025-06-20 13:24

…. So a regular taxi but it can’t drive in the rain. Got it.

[deleted] 2025-06-20 13:27

[deleted]

morbiiq 2025-06-20 13:30

I dunno about you guys, but my feeling is that bright sunlight is basically inclement weather as well.

morbiiq 2025-06-20 13:31

Nah, at that point you call a real Waymo instead of the 2015 Temu Waymo Simulator

tuctrohs 2025-06-20 13:32

I mean, once optimus robots are doing all the other jobs, we need some kind of jobs program for the masses.

morbiiq 2025-06-20 13:33

It said only the invitee is allowed to ride, lol. So 1 passenger unless they gang up.

tuctrohs 2025-06-20 13:33

I mean, who takes a taxi when it's raining? Perfect weather to walk with an umbrella and enjoy the smell of the rain.

morbiiq 2025-06-20 13:34

Pretty sure it wasn’t a “choice”, not really.

Scanner771_The_2nd 2025-06-20 13:34

I agree. He admires science, but mostly to look smart and justify his wealth. He forgets that real scientists admit when they're wrong.

tuctrohs 2025-06-20 13:35

> Elon can not learn and shut up. It's hard to learn to shut up when your wealth skyrockets each time you spout nonsense.

Complex_Sherbet2 2025-06-20 13:36

" rerouting to El Salvador..."

Lacrewpandora 2025-06-20 13:38

>Service may be **limited or unavailable in inclement weather**. LOL >Surveillance, reverse engineering, or recording of **proprietary Robotaxi components** or features is strictly prohibited. I assume they mean the TSLA employee in the front seat?

Lacrewpandora 2025-06-20 13:39

...and a chase car.

Jacktheforkie 2025-06-20 13:39

1 human is all it takes to drive a train, some have a few more people to do passenger service stuff like deploying ramps or assisting with getting on

Lacrewpandora 2025-06-20 13:40

To be fair, this might just be a standard limitation on the Tesla cars themselves, and unrelated to the robo aspect.

I_am_Regarded 2025-06-20 13:40

At some point, even bad news will become bad news for tesla but when? Well, its when the cult dies. It is almost dead but they don't know it yet.

User-no-relation 2025-06-20 13:43

it's even optics, because the optics are terrible. It's to have something to match Elon's BS

PortlandPetey 2025-06-20 13:43

One person taxi, revolutionary! Elon is a genius! I didn’t want to actually bring my family with me to the airport, I just never realized it before. Thank you Elon for helping me see the light.

Technical48 2025-06-20 13:44

Driving toward the sun at dawn/dusk is also "inclement weather" for FSD.

Temporary_Abroad_211 2025-06-20 13:45

Did somebody say Jonny cab?

No-Preparation4073 2025-06-20 13:45

This is a typical Elon thing. He loves to run his mouth and over promise, and stupid investors keep rewarding him for it. This is a non-launch, a total mis and most certainly NOT using the promised cool cars and certainly NOT FSD.

SoulShatter 2025-06-20 13:46

Looking at it, it's just a straight lie to call it a launch. It's still internal testing, but with some limited spots for outsiders. Most likely so that some selected media people can do PR Social media posts on it.

89Hopper 2025-06-20 13:51

>Wait, what? So there is going to be a person sitting in the front passenger seat? Why not the drivers seat? If he was in the driver's seat it would ruin the illusion that the car can drive itself! This is also stupid from a pure safety perspective. There is a reason why the driver sits towards the middle of the road, it gives better visibility of the surroundings. I have driven LHD cars in a RHD country and it absolutely sucks when you are on the wrong side of the vehicle and feels incredibly unsafe if you ever have to overtake someone.

porizj 2025-06-20 13:51

Now that’s innovation! Any dickhead can build a self-driving taxi. It takes a real 4D chess brain to realize that you could have a person sitting in the front seat to make sure the vehicle arrives at its destination safely. This, of course, being far different from a non-self-driving taxi with a human sitting in the front seat to make sure the vehicle arrives at its destination safely.

ascaria 2025-06-20 13:51

Rain is such a bitch. Who could possibly have foreseen that? Why can’t the sun just shine 24/7?

Ragnarok-9999 2025-06-20 13:52

RoboTaxi Terms and conditions for public: 1. When you see Tesla robotaxi on the road near you, please run away. We can not guaranty your safety. 2. If you hate Elon, you can keep hating him, but not permited distroy the robotaxi or burn it. 3. IF you feel still strongly feel ablout, you are permited to spit on it. 4. Please don't allow any children to go near that. Our Robotaxi does not like children and we can not guaranty their safety New terms and consitions will be revealed later after review by Redditors.

wongl888 2025-06-20 13:54

How else will Tesla keep all their cars busy as Robotaxis?

aliwithtaozi 2025-06-20 13:55

Sorry why 3? I read it too fast Maybe. One from front seat and one tele. What is the third?

10xMaker 2025-06-20 13:56

Baby steps. Safety first.

cantusethatname 2025-06-20 13:58

Pathetic is Elon’s middle name

Technical48 2025-06-20 13:58

My favorite part is how all these hype-products eventually get memory holed. Tesla semi? I haven't heard a thing about it lately. Surely by now it has taken over freight transportation? Roadster 2? It's surprising that all the hype mongers who got free roadsters haven't made single video review of the car yet. Solar roof? I guess the roofs in america have all been converted so there's no need to talk about it anymore? Optimus? Strange that none of the news channels have covered the mass layoffs that must have resulted from Optimus robots taking all the manufacturing jobs. Starship? I suppose the mars landings must have went off without incident and that's why all we hear about are the few insignificant massive explosions that are totally not an indication that starship is just another soon to be failed hype-product? Right?

[deleted] 2025-06-20 14:00

Wait, so they need 3 people drive this "selfdriving car"? Thats hillarious!

TurnoverSuperb9023 2025-06-20 14:01

Completely agree.

West_Fee2416 2025-06-20 14:01

Why do we really need driverless taxi's from any of these companies? How much of our tax dollars are going to develop and promote this nonsense so billionaires can get richer off our money.

cantusethatname 2025-06-20 14:02

Some let me get this right. I have a Tesla that will be used off hours as a robotaxi. Tomorrow morning I get in my car to go to work and there is a Tesla employee the front seat?

GeeBee72 2025-06-20 14:03

So…. Is an Uber..?

oldsillybear 2025-06-20 14:03

I mean even the Austin bus service has it beat. Aside: If one of these things has an accident, are all three employees given a ticket?

mr4sh 2025-06-20 14:03

and boy will it fool them

GeeBee72 2025-06-20 14:04

Don’t forget muddy roads!

boylong15 2025-06-20 14:05

Haha. Their robo taxi is so good they need human to handicap it.

Designer_Emu_6518 2025-06-20 14:07

So it’s just a taxi?

GeeBee72 2025-06-20 14:07

Except it needs to shine at least 30 degrees above the horizon and never directly in front of any direction of travel. So, basically just between the hours of 10 -3 between the tropics

jason12745 2025-06-20 14:08

Safety driver in the passenger seat is an odd choice for safety. Why not the drivers seat? It’s empty.

microtherion 2025-06-20 14:08

"The person in the driver's seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself." Tesla 2016. The more things change…

OpeningAd447 2025-06-20 14:09

There are at least 100million of those in this country… he’ll be fine.

SisterOfBattIe 2025-06-20 14:10

FSD-U^(pst) FULL SELF DRIVING - UNSUPERVISED ^(passenger supervised - teleoperated)

GSVLastingDamage 2025-06-20 14:10

That’s a very interesting point, who is liable in the event of a collision?

SocialJusticeAndroid 2025-06-20 14:10

They are saying there will be a chase car?

Ok-Bill3318 2025-06-20 14:13

It doesn’t go to the airport

AndSoISaysToTheGuy 2025-06-20 14:14

But they did find a software license that hadn't been used in a year, so they saved like a hundred bucks cutting that.

kapitein-kwak 2025-06-20 14:15

aliwithtaozi 2025-06-20 14:17

ohhh hahaha I see yeah and the chaser car

babypho 2025-06-20 14:17

I mean their wipers barely work so i expected that

SocialJusticeAndroid 2025-06-20 14:17

Now that this has become clear, why are they not changing course on their vision-only sensors? It’s clear that’s not the way.

babypho 2025-06-20 14:20

I have a feeling thats exactly why they cant. With how many tesla they have, as soon as they backtrack they will be held liable because elon claimed that all current teslas are able to do fsd. I think the engineers are forced to work with the restrictions since they can only do so much to tell Elon. Thats why a lot of the high level employees left. They realized they arent going to change anything.

babypho 2025-06-20 14:21

Train? That sounds stupid! Must be for poor people. Okay, genius idea. What if we dig a tunnel and we have ONE tesla car drive through it!?

10xMaker 2025-06-20 14:21

That would then become “Supervised” FSD. It’s been there for more than a year.

PilotKnob 2025-06-20 14:21

Driver's seat or passenger seat? Details matter in reporting.

But muh training data, blah blah bah!

doalwa 2025-06-20 14:42

Honestly, it’s better than them just winging it and letting their subpar FSD software loose on the unsuspecting population of Austin. Musk needs to go, as simple as that.

katsudon8899 2025-06-20 14:49

Fake it till you make it. Except they never will.

Gunldesnapper 2025-06-20 14:56

So a human is a the “oh shit that person might die!” Switch?

rbrogger 2025-06-20 14:56

So Tesla developed a Taxi?

FaudelCastro 2025-06-20 14:57

But that's an issue they will have to contend with regardless. There are so many different HW packages and I'm not sure that stuff is retrocompatible

Zingobingobongo 2025-06-20 14:59

Hasn’t he been quietly buying shed loads of tech for LIDAR - like the established competitors already went with?

Zingobingobongo 2025-06-20 14:59

He admires himself.

LAYCH88 2025-06-20 15:00

Actually I see the genius. Sitting in the driver's seat requires a driver's license. A retired senior citizen can sit in the passenger seat. And they will need a job soon since we need to cut money from the budget to pay for all the tax cuts. Solving multiple problems at once.

SolutionWarm6576 2025-06-20 15:03

Only getting hyped up because it’s Elon and Tesla. This whole, “Tesla is so far a head technology wise”, is just a bunch of Marketing crap from Mr. future himself.

Dewfall-Hawk 2025-06-20 15:08

Waymo can’t launch in Austin fast enough. It will be hilarious to see the day to day comparisons to Waymo.

[deleted] 2025-06-20 15:09

Oh dear. I hope the employee hasn't been desensitized by the constant ai and actually has a reaction time at all in case a child or a hazard comes into view all of a sudden. The thing is I bet you it will all work out as it is the good people on the street yelling ROBO SWASTIKAR INCOMING in which case everyone turns and looks and grab their dogs and their kids and run as far away as they could once they see the "hazard" coming resulting in no human or pet injuries. Couldn't say the same for randomly parked cars or looney toon walls though...

SaintsFanPA 2025-06-20 15:11

To be fair, neither does Waymo.

Trevellation 2025-06-20 15:15

Bullshit. It won't work in crystal clear weather either.

FrogFan1947 2025-06-20 15:17

I'll bet that, before an "invited" passenger can use the service, they must agree to waive all liability for any loss or injury - after all, it's a beta test, right? The liability to other vehicles, or other individuals, is a good question, though. I suspect there will be a round robin of "The other guy did it!"

dr_reverend 2025-06-20 15:18

I just don’t understand why anyone would ever think that Tesla is competent in any way. Did everyone forget about the Tesla “robot”? The “robot” that was just a guy in a suit.

HardOyler 2025-06-20 15:18

Utter trash

transsolar 2025-06-20 15:22

And only 300,000 people have died so far

gwenver 2025-06-20 15:23

Was just about to say the optics couldn't be any worse. What's the photo op when you have someone sitting in the front seat?!

gwenver 2025-06-20 15:27

There are actually quite a few fully automated train services around the world. Doesn't seem to have turned into a trillion dollar industry though...

gwenver 2025-06-20 15:31

I'd imagine AI is even more saturated than Elon s other grifts. And they've all got the jump on him so he hasn't even got a ten year headstart to squander.

JohnHazardWandering 2025-06-20 15:31

So 3 robots supervising the cars, then 3 people supervising each robot?  RIP Wayno and Boston Dynamics.

JohnHazardWandering 2025-06-20 15:32

Liability would be with Tesla, but the question about criminality or traffic tickets is valid. I'm curious how waymo is treated for tickets.

PortlandPetey 2025-06-20 15:33

Yeah Waymo and their stupid 4 person taxis 🤣🤣 I didn’t know they didn’t go to the airport though, that’s interesting

porizj 2025-06-20 15:34

While also reducing the number of passengers who can fit in the vehicle, thus ensuring more robo-taxis need to be used overall. The innovation never ends!

Fun_Volume2150 2025-06-20 15:34

This puts them 9 years behind Waymo.

Wingnut150 2025-06-20 15:38

Yeah I've already played this stupid game with Tesla drivers doing Uber and let me tell you first hand how much that experience sucks. Driver fucking around on his phone while the autopilot hurls us down the road at highway speed, not a damn soul actually controlling anything. Nope. I immediately cancel any Uber that pops up with a Tesla.

SplitEar 2025-06-20 15:43

“Safety monitor” Aka, cabbie.

HotDogOfNotreDame 2025-06-20 15:46

You are 100% correct. These poor dumb schmucks will be getting paid minimum wage to be the “legal crumple zone” when (not if) there are crashes.

Inside-Welder-3263 2025-06-20 15:46

The shadows are what will kill all the pedestrians.

Monk315 2025-06-20 15:46

They already operate in Austin don't they?

[deleted] 2025-06-20 15:48

It's worse than that. I work for a government nuclear center. We're funded by the Department of Energy. We had some DOGE "labor cuts" this year, which were all old people retiring. Oddly, the DOGE website never mentioned all the young people we hired during the same time period. One of the dirty little secrets about American government is that we have a historic labor shortage. In fact, America in general has a historic labor shortage. College grads don't perceive this, because they live in big cities near colleges. The labor is needed in small towns and rural areas.

Exciting_Turn_9559 2025-06-20 15:50

Bahahahaha. They've got nothing.

Xiaopeng8877788 2025-06-20 15:53

So basically a taxi driver… amazing!!! How much extra can I pay for this extravagant feature of having a taxi driver drive me?

DamNamesTaken11 2025-06-20 15:54

This is so hilarious. Safety monitor, won’t operate in rain, limited hours, and geofenced (probably to a couple of blocks). All of these terms scream “public beta that’s nowhere close to release”. Won’t be surprised if the stock rises another 50 points because of it.

Late-Following792 2025-06-20 16:00

Looks like handicapped taxi service

PassiveSpamBot 2025-06-20 16:06

That just sounds like a regular taxi with extra steps.

96lincolntowncar 2025-06-20 16:29

My grandpa delivered coal by horse and wagon in Edmonton Alberta. He went out in all weather conditions, so I'd say the senile horse is superior.

tinglySensation 2025-06-20 16:29

Not surprised. They couldn't get FSD to work in a tunnel they built to purpose for FSD. If the car's in Vegas need drivers, then their taxi service will need them too. Anyone who says that they are close clearly couldn't connect the dots already there. They can't get their shit to work in a single route that was geofenced to two different parking lots and a tunnel they built to purpose for their cars and FSD.

morbiiq 2025-06-20 16:37

The rider for calling the taxi, no doubt.

ihateandy2 2025-06-20 16:57

habfranco 2025-06-20 17:06

ObservationalHumor 2025-06-20 17:11

At this point if they announced that the entire thing would operated by a quarter slot and sit on hydraulics so you could experience what it was like if the car was really moving I'd hardly be surprised.

Lacrewpandora 2025-06-20 17:14

Chuckle. FSD is now the plastic race car in front of the drug store.

hal__ 2025-06-20 17:14

Big if true

DisastrousIncident75 2025-06-20 17:16

It’s actually 4 people per robotaxi. Supervisor, promoter, remote operator, and follower.

DisastrousIncident75 2025-06-20 17:17

$15k at one point

Ok_Addition_356 2025-06-20 17:19

Wait... An actual person is sitting in the front seat???

ItsSadTimes 2025-06-20 17:19

"You see, judge, the full self driving system was technically off during the crash, so the patsey, I mean security monitor, should have taken over. So technically, they're liable. Oh, how long was it off before the crash? 0.001 seconds. No, I dont see why that matters."

DisastrousIncident75 2025-06-20 17:21

Sure, everyone on the street will be alerted and ready whenever a robotaxi drives by. BS

Ok_Addition_356 2025-06-20 17:22

They're just using cameras.  Gonna be tons of limitations.  Waymo and others are smart to add lots of goofy looking sensors to the car for this reason.  Way more data to work with. The rider doesn't care either.

ChollyWheels 2025-06-20 17:26

Meanwhile, Tesla is reportedly spending 1 billion a MONTH on chomping data to improve its AI. Elon's bet seems sincere - that super-AI plus vision only will be the key to success with robotaxies and robots. And he's a man accustomed to trusting his instincts on a longshot. Personally I think spending that kind of money on researching a better battery would have been a better bet.

Ok_Addition_356 2025-06-20 17:27

"Full self driving\*\*\*\*" lol

Personal-Anxiety8029 2025-06-20 17:29

By those measures, I could launch a robo-taxi today that is competitive.

Ok_Addition_356 2025-06-20 17:30

I think at this point Tesla's arrogance is biting them in the ass technology wise. There is literally nothing they are doing that is innovative or ahead of the curve at this point. Range? Nope. Full self driving? Nah. Super charging? Nuh uh. Speed and features of their cars? No way. Even their super charger infrastructure was sort of a big selling point for a while but they're opening it up to everyone (and plenty of other companies have super fast chargers now). And companies like waymo are always going to have better robo-taxi's because they're not afraid to add whatever goofy sensors they need to be more accurate on to the cars. Whereas as I understand it Tesla is just using cameras which are going to have serious limitations.

Personal-Anxiety8029 2025-06-20 17:31

We thought robots were going to replace us. Turns out we need three humans to help them do a one human job.

NotAHost 2025-06-20 17:34

I mean same thing happened with fsd ‘launch’ in a way. He forces a deadline otherwise it will never gets launched and it’s the softest of launches that fails to meet high expectations. He promises fsd in 2020, and he gave it a limited public beta at the 11th hour of the year.

svmk1987 2025-06-20 17:35

Literally takes more people to run than a plain old taxi.

NotAHost 2025-06-20 17:36

I knew some of this was going on, but didn’t expect about follower and remote operator. Is the remote operator straight up driving or ‘guiding’? Is there a recommended article to read a break down on this? I’m going to google but trying to figure out if I’m buying puts before close.

SkinnyBlackSanta 2025-06-20 17:36

This looks more like a highly inefficient taxi service than anything deserving a "robo" prefix.

Bobinss 2025-06-20 17:41

And there's going to be a million of them on the streets by next year. That's 4 million jobs right there. No one does automation like Elon Musk.

Bobinss 2025-06-20 17:48

The LAST LAST thing Elon needs right now is for a robotaxi to kill someone. Texas Republican lawmakers are already sounding like they don't like this idea and want to regulate it. Actual Republicans in Texas. Imagine if a driverless cab runs over a pregnant woman. It will unleash a vortex of lightning bolts of biblical proportions.

PhilosophyKingPK 2025-06-20 17:48

That sounds…..pretty limited.

PhilosophyKingPK 2025-06-20 17:50

Probably could combine a couple Netflix accounts. Another $50 savings.

Bobinss 2025-06-20 17:50

Elon is probably waiting for the patents in the Lidar to expire because he's too cheap to buy the sensors from the patent holder.

eprParadoxon 2025-06-20 17:51

I so hope they are wearing spandex suits

Bobinss 2025-06-20 17:55

Tesla is level 2, Waymo is level 4. I just dropped off people at the airport. That's going to take a level 6 or 7. I think the scale only goes to 5.

Bobinss 2025-06-20 17:57

Who would have guessed we have all been riding around in Cybercabs for the last few years? It's called Uber.

beaded_lion59 2025-06-20 17:59

I would insist on a signed document from Tesla regarding my liability when using an Autotaxi.

Quiet-Bet582 2025-06-20 18:15

Optics for the blind

Asrewhole 2025-06-20 18:34

Is it a human with dual controls?

th3bigfatj 2025-06-20 18:38

the optics were when they said, "we're launching a robotaxi service in June!" For reference the stock went up well over $100 (from \~$230 April 22nd) to about $360 at the end of May. Elon has done so many similar successful pumps even when tesla was facing nothing but bad news. But don't worry, FSD will drive itself across any country by 2017 including NY to LA. And Tesla robots will be worth trillions Next Year.

Space-Trash-666 2025-06-20 18:43

infinit9 2025-06-20 19:18

If Tesla really launches Robotaxi with an employee inside, the size of egg on Elon's face can feed a village for a month.

DisastrousIncident75 2025-06-20 19:19

That’s why they said your roads will be full of self driving Teslas.

sonicmerlin 2025-06-20 19:29

Just look at the camera views during a heavy rainstorm. Nothing is visible, it’s just noise. Even Elon should comprehend that but his drug addled burned out brain cells refuse to see reason.

sonicmerlin 2025-06-20 19:32

I would literally buy a private car with a ton of ridiculous looking waymo sensors if that gave it level 4 abilities to drive me around town.

sonicmerlin 2025-06-20 19:35

Yeah a class action is inevitable. Many people’s cars are already reaching end of life anyway because some ppl drive all day every day for work and have already racked up 200k-300k miles.

GMoD42 2025-06-20 19:40

Ahhh, your job is PLEASE!

FieryAnomaly 2025-06-20 20:58

If a Tesla needs a driver to drive through a fucking one-way tunnel, design just for it's cars, how the fuck are they going to naviagte the real world?

[deleted] 2025-06-20 21:11

Hire social media influencers but if you post content on social media you violate its terms… what kind of bullshit is that.. North Korea bs?

HesterMoffett 2025-06-20 21:12

So it's a taxi. What a breakthrough!

Das_KommenTier 2025-06-20 21:22

You know that there are trains without any drivers in the front, right?

noobgiraffe 2025-06-20 21:23

There were also tunel boring machines and hyperloop.

Albin4president2028 2025-06-20 21:31

A prime example is the supercharger team. Musk literally asked his employees for ideas. The head of the supercharger team submitted some. Then Musk fired the whole team. https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/inside-story-elon-musks-mass-firings-tesla-supercharger-staff-2024-05-15/

Albin4president2028 2025-06-20 21:36

And and the tunnel is a big circle that actually doesn't go anywhere! And crazier idea. That one tesla also has a driver!! Im sold. Take my money!

relaxyourshoulders 2025-06-20 21:47

Same Tessler playbook as always, front load hype, pump the numbers, fail to deliver, maybe some people die from malfunctions. Meanwhile better cheaper versions of all of this already exist

Albin4president2028 2025-06-20 21:50

Musk has been hyping robotaxies for almost 8 years. They can't even do full fsd in the tunnel in Vegas. There's zero chance tesla is ready for full fsd if they stick with camera only. Musk has made it abundantly clear he won't use tech other than cameras. But seeing as you follow 7 tesla subreddits. I would assume you know all of that.

10xMaker 2025-06-20 21:59

I agree with everything you said. For me I have a HW4 car with FSD. I use it every day, every drive, all the time. It works unbelievably well. I am very happy with what I have and anything more is a bonus. Elon is smarter than most of us here and he has done many things that others have thought not possible. If he thinks it’s possible I believe him and ok to give him more time. If you have not, please try FSD on HW4 and you will know what I mean.

pailhead011 2025-06-20 23:10

Is it because full self driving means there is a person supervising it at all times in Tesla land?

abaicus 2025-06-20 23:16

Yeah, it's called "driver".

Street-Air-546 2025-06-20 23:17

did folks in the 70s wake up each day read some news and say “this is bonkers, unhinged, gaslighting bs”. Every day?

AdministrationTop772 2025-06-20 23:21

They removed the need for a human taxi driver, and all it needed was two additional humans.

[deleted] 2025-06-20 23:50

Wait what. So instead of one human driving the car. They added 3x employees remote control infrastructure and a second car. Another win for AI, I guess....

[deleted] 2025-06-20 23:52

China has had this for centuries... rickshaw.

ReferentiallySeethru 2025-06-20 23:57

I don’t think it’s optics as much as something they promised investors and have to show progress towards or they’ll be sued. They’re probably getting sued anyway, but this whole shebang if something they promised to investors.

[deleted] 2025-06-21 00:00

Hey Elmo, did you have Grob check the FSD code? You'd think among the top 10 specs might be stopping at all stop signs including those on school busses.

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-06-21 00:02

ExcitingMeet2443 2025-06-21 00:04

FrankScaramucci 2025-06-21 00:27

You know why...

jailtheorange1 2025-06-21 00:47

Don’t forget it’s designed to avoid airports and certain tricky intersections in the city. It is beyond pathetic.

misterten2 2025-06-21 00:52

in other words robotaxi is really just a Tesla with a cab driver!

drchris23 2025-06-21 01:05

To be fair, I don’t think it’s going to fool investors. If you’ve seen the stock recently, it’s not doing very well.

Snapdragon_4U 2025-06-21 01:34

Haven’t you heard though - it’s ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE safer than a real human driver. Elon used the magic ~~bullshit~~ words.

Complex_Material_702 2025-06-21 02:04

Soooooooo, they’re launching Uber? Somehow the stock will still manage to go up.

No_Recording_1696 2025-06-21 02:27

They’re going about this all wrong. Most people wouldn’t care about driving themselves. They should set it up where the empty car comes to your location, then almost like a micro car rental from when you open the door to when you “sign out”. Imagine driving to the airport departure terminal, getting out and the car drives away. It can go circle around and pick someone else up at arrivals. That person gets in, all their seat and radio settings are waiting for them as soon as they get in. This way only empty cars are autonomous so if it gets into an accident at least people aren’t in the car. They can set lower speed limits when autonomous etc. People would feel a lot more comfortable with that option. And you gain public trust over time from empty cars not getting into accidents. Of course Musk’s big ego would never go that route.

tangouniform2020 2025-06-21 02:34

Elevator shaft down. Elevator to follow

Nonameforyoudangit 2025-06-21 03:10

Cool. I feel a lot better knowing that there's a 'safety monitor' in the front seat. Should be fine /s

Festering-Fecal 2025-06-21 04:21

Someone correct me but isn't it impossible without lidr and radr to have a reliable self driving vehicle. In perfect conditions a camera could work but in less than perfect conditions it has issue.

hegenious 2025-06-21 04:51

Compare this to Space X. Have your rockets explode in mid air as a business model. Oh wait, we can get money from govt contracts with NASA by exploding them on the ground, it’s even better.

TheJiggie 2025-06-21 05:33

gadhalund 2025-06-21 07:44

More lies and utter BS from Musk and Tesla. I wouldve been truly shocked if any part of the roll out was genuine and without smoke and mirrors.

Please don't delete this when tesla makes you look like a fool.

gadhalund 2025-06-21 07:46

JRLDH 2025-06-21 17:28

Hahahaha! Tesla has ZERO cred to make anyone look like a fool after making itself look like a fool since 2018 or so when they foolishly lied about having self-driving solved. It doesn't count if they solve it in the future. I'm talking about the state of Tesla's technology in June 2025.

borsTHEbarbarian 2025-06-21 18:33

We'll see soon enough if you're more interested in internet points or integrity.

Sea_Abbreviations334 2025-06-22 00:28

The big holders are not morons. They know it’s overvalued. It’s a mutual agreement to keep buying. If it fell to actual value many funds would lose years of gains. Selling big is mutually assured destruction, so they act like every announcement is going to be the thing that makes this stock price make sense: solar rooftop, Semi, cybertruck, Optimus, robotaxi. Elon doesn’t have to deliver on robotaxi. He just has to announce another thing he won’t do soon. My money is on air taxis or sex robots.

b0bx13 2025-06-22 00:39

Come up for air man, Elon will understand

ConversationPale8665 2025-06-22 01:43

I’m gonna launch a robo-accountant service. It’s a robot that will get to work closing your books and filing your taxes. It’ll come equipped with an actual CPA that will “monitor” everything right behind it. It’s the next Industrial Revolution people!!

Haha : Operational hours and geofence details are available in the app and may change. Service may be limited or unavailable in inclement weather. What? It’s the opposite - pay is good and CoL is low, but quality of life (for most) is worse because of a lack of amenities. The average urban college grad is not going to willingly go to rural Montana 3hrs from the nearest Walmart to work. Most people want stuff like restaurants, bars, stores, yknow - civilization.
