Quiet_Bell_429 | 2026-03-14 21:46 | 217 views

https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/3802/tesla-model-s-and-model-x-lose-dedicated-gpu-get-less-storage The final production run of the Model S and X will no longer have a dedicated GPU and will ship with less onboard storage, which was cut in half from 256GB to 128GB. Final nail in the coffin for the once flagship Tesla models.

I low key wanna buy a model S and just put it in storage for 50 years

in_her_drawer 2026-03-14 22:43

The dedicated GPU has been gone for a year. The only thing that sounds new is the decreased internal storage.

MICHAELSD01 2026-03-14 22:50

I had the idea to do this with an OG iPhone, and didn’t, but they’re worth about 100x more factory sealed now.

VIDGuide 2026-03-14 22:52

Now I’m picturing a model S, still sealed in a box with the Tesla logo on it, shrink-wrap and all.

Livesai 2026-03-14 22:55

less ram too but you get lgbt interior lighting and front camera

feurie 2026-03-14 23:00

Apple stock from around that time period is also 100x.

GaryTheSoulReaper 2026-03-14 23:10

I have an og , 3g and 4g iphone still Not factory sealed however

twopacktuesday 2026-03-14 23:11

OG Roadster will be the most valuable

cocoaradiant 2026-03-14 23:15

Did the dGPU have any effect on normal day to day usage of the car? Or was it really only to deliver on Steam gaming?

reality_comes 2026-03-14 23:18

Good idea except that it might get bricked.

whittlingcanbefatal 2026-03-14 23:25

Would the battery last even half that long?

MICHAELSD01 2026-03-14 23:28

The value is the factory seal.

MICHAELSD01 2026-03-14 23:29

If it’s maintained/charged occasionally to prevent discharge I could imagine an extremely low-mileage Model S becoming a classic car.

TenaciousLilMonkey 2026-03-14 23:42

Favorite typo of the day

sunfishtommy 2026-03-14 23:43

Which considering how many years it has been thats not a very good return on investment.

in_her_drawer 2026-03-14 23:49

I have the car with dedicated GPU, but I have to imagine it was only for gaming.

MICHAELSD01 2026-03-14 23:51

Values probably peaked around 10-15 years, 100x is a great ROI…

VeryRealHuman23 2026-03-14 23:55

Unless you get really lucky, you would be better off just putting the money in an index fund.

WilliamG007 2026-03-14 23:55

I had a 2022 S Plaid with the dGPU and now a 2026 S Plaid. I’m hyper sensitive to frame rates and I haven’t noticed any difference in rendering performance.

sunfishtommy 2026-03-14 23:56

Thats the same or less than the stock market on average and much less liquid.

protonecromagnon2 2026-03-15 00:01

Steam gaming

ForGreatDoge 2026-03-15 00:03

The stock market has gone up 10,000% in the last 15 years? Are you sure about that?

sunfishtommy 2026-03-15 00:08

Sorry i did my math wrong.

DMC_Ryan 2026-03-15 00:32

Only ~2400 made! There are exponentially more S’s than that.

klxz79 2026-03-15 00:33

Did Witcher 3 ever get released for model s?

RosieDear 2026-03-15 00:47

People said that about DeLoreans and it really didn't turn out too well.

QuieroTamales 2026-03-15 00:54

You mean "I phone key wanna buy..." right? lol

Present-Ad-9598 2026-03-15 01:05

Why would it get bricked

Crazy_Category_9594 2026-03-15 01:12

10/10. Can’t stop laughing.

reality_comes 2026-03-15 01:13

Might still work some, I would assume anything that requires communication with the outside world will not work in 50 years. Will the car still function without that? Probably some features. It might still drive. Maybe. Assuming you kept it charged.

ethiopian_kid 2026-03-15 01:31

they will rerelease the s eventually, cybertruck has way more future collectible potential with how poorly it’s selling

Snakend 2026-03-15 01:45

2400x 2400 is 5,760,000. I highly doubt there are that many S's.

Wojtas_ 2026-03-15 01:50

Yep. But only for the 2022-2023 model years.

420Deez 2026-03-15 02:02

there will be used ones available forever don’t worry

wiredbombshell 2026-03-15 02:15

THIS

ArtOfWarfare 2026-03-15 02:19

The exponent could only be 1.6 - nobody specified it was squared. (I feel like it’s a bit odd encountering Ryan. The world sometimes feels small. I called in a few times in the first ~year of his podcast.)

adorablefuzzykitten 2026-03-15 02:23

So Tesla saved $100 USD on a $100,000 USD car?

My_Man_Tyrone 2026-03-15 02:28

They rolled out unreal engine to the S and X with the dGPU

Snakend 2026-03-15 02:28

If you're going less than 2, it's not even worth saying exponential then.

Sielbear 2026-03-15 02:30

And for every 1,000 teslas sold, they earn $100,000 more. $100 / savings is substantial. And I suspect it was more than $100 / car.

Simon_Emes 2026-03-15 02:52

Hate everything about the end of X and S. The icons that made Tesla being discarded like that is a disgrace. Had they invested a tad more into the branding and tech they would still be around and selling well. Now Tesla is a brand with the feeling of a dystopic sci fi series and no, zero nada feel of wanna have. A basic model y or 3? As sexy as a Volkswagen Golf 20 years ago. Lame.

CMScientist 2026-03-15 02:56

Then 2401 is also an exponent of 2400. Whats the point of the original comment then

descendency 2026-03-15 03:04

Probably more like they ran out and ordering a new batch would cost a lot more than they wanted to pay.

adorablefuzzykitten 2026-03-15 03:17

Still a shame on such a high end car.

KitchenVermicelli365 2026-03-15 03:38

$100K for model X is super over priced... Model Y and Model 3 are amazing values...

iwilltalkaboutguns 2026-03-15 03:58

I think my 22 X plaid is the peak of the model. Maximum storage, maximum Ram, bad ass GPU that runs every game I own on Steam perfectly, including emulators. Reducing the Ram, therefore removing Steam is a HUGE loss for a gamer like me... Never bored while waiting ever again. Actually finished SilkSong playing in the car waiting for kids to come out from school/practice or my wife getting ready... UltraSonic Sensors. No, Vision is not good enough. My friend has a 24 X plaid and his driver door opens all the way maybe 60% of the time. The rest of the time it's super timid. My door opens wide to receive me as I approach 100% of the time *unless* there is an actual obstacle in the way I case it opens the maximum it can without touching the obstacle. Its great! This alone, made me never upgrade the car (I usually do every 3 years or so), I use this everyday multiple times a day. I also love the old-school proximity beeping while parking somewhere tight. I can 100% rely on it because USS will never get confused with a small cone or pole, unlike vision only. There is no official source for this one, but I swear my car has better quality speakers than the 24 model. Same song, identical equalizer settings... The Bass is waaaaaaay better in mine, the highs are crisper and cleaner... Group friend of 6 individuals all agree. I do hope to eventually be able to upgrade to HW5 or whatever actually has fully automated driving, as that's the one thing it's worse than the new cars as it's stuck with HW3.

Former-Discount4279 2026-03-15 03:58

Have you noticed steam is gone in the newer one..?

John_622 2026-03-15 05:02

Nothing new . Tesla playing quiet games with customers yet again ! They shout from the rooftops when they achieve any little thing but never a peep when they do the rug pull on their customers . Ask the peeps who bought their cars at Sky high prices with HW3 just before HW4 was introduced … quietly !

KymbboSlice 2026-03-15 05:21

$100 per vehicle, even on a low volume vehicle like S and X is a tremendous amount of money per vehicle.

Present-Ad-9598 2026-03-15 05:34

Well charging requires only a wall outlet, and connections to the outside world aren’t necessary for the car to function

WilliamG007 2026-03-15 05:58

It’s been gone for several years.

bummerbimmer 2026-03-15 06:39

Still a shame on such a high end car.

HettySwollocks 2026-03-15 07:04

Whilst it wouldn’t necessarily be bricked, if you don’t update the firmware Tesla remove all services
