Okay

Maconi 2026-02-14 01:28

Are you suggesting Tesla is going to keep FSD Transfers forever? Making buying FSD outright more attractive? That would be nice, but I’m not sure that’s what this message confirms.

DebBoi 2026-02-14 01:33

If Full Self Driving was a one-time cost that was linked to the driver/owned vehicle, then I'd be all for it.

Quick_Snaps 2026-02-14 02:06

It’s only transferable if you buy within a month… still not worth it

dubie4x8 2026-02-14 02:35

It’s saying if you have FSD purchased on a Tesla you already own, it can be transferred to a new one by that date

Virtual-Island-4105 2026-02-14 02:42

Can you break it down a by example. I’m confused

Saintcanuck 2026-02-14 05:36

Doesn’t apply to older Tesla’s ?

SpicyElixer 2026-02-14 06:38

Invest 8k in the stock market (VOO). Pay 100 per month. There is no breakeven point. Ever. It’s a mirage. In fact as time goes on the cost of buying goes up compared to a sub. It’s simple math. Opportunity cost on 8k is no joke.

g1aiz 2026-02-14 12:07

If you currently own a Tesla that has FSD payed for already and you buy another one within the timeframe until 31. March you can take that FSD packages from the old car to the new one without buying it again. Afterwards this will no longer be possible AFAIK.

OkAmbassador8161 2026-02-14 13:02

This is assuming that the inevitable affordability crises isn't going to crash the market at some point.

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-14 13:54

It's not $8K for everyone. Only $2K for me, and I bought it last week and will be transferring to a new purchase next month.

Pliskin01 2026-02-14 14:08

You know, I didn’t consider that. Assuming your money roughly doubles every decade at a 7% return, you’d have 16k by the end and have paid 12k in subscription costs. Interesting because if they charged 5k like they did when I first bought my car, the math flips.

skriefal 2026-02-14 15:02

> if they charged 5k Wasn't that as an add-on to Enhanced Auto Pilot (EAP)? So you'd pay $5K to upgrade from AP to EAP, and then pay $2K - $5K to upgrade from EAP to FSD. For a total of $7K - $10K.

He - or a previous owner of the vehicle - has already purchased Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) option for about $5K. This was an intermediate feature sitting between Autopilot and FSD and is no longer available for purchase. Those who have EAP can update to FSD for $2K.

Pliskin01 2026-02-14 15:47

It was actually 6k outright. No EAP as that was killed before I bought my car. Folks with legacy EAP could upgrade for less. 2-3k perhaps?

skriefal 2026-02-14 15:52

Aha - maybe one of those end-of-quarter incentives. That was a nice discount.

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-14 20:06

As /u/skriefal said, I bought enhanced autopilot when I bought the car new back in 2018. So for me it is an upgrade price of only $2K to go from EAP to FSD.

mcleder 2026-02-14 20:08

If was really FULL self drive and included the insurance for when it crashes the car then maybe.

TitanUpBoys 2026-02-14 21:22

We have very different definitions of “worth it,” lol. But I agree if you’re planning to upgrade within a month anyway and want FSD for your next car and don’t care about a lifetime subscription, it’s a great deal.

SpicyElixer 2026-02-15 04:38

I’m just going off historical averages if you can reliably predict anything otherwise then you will be rich.

Threat_Level_2400 2026-02-15 17:12

Confused. Very new here, but if FSD is a subscription at $99/yr, what is there to transfer?

ibelieve2020 2026-02-16 01:42

How is the upgraded experience goin? Any issues in the rain?

Quin1617 2026-02-16 01:54

The market will always have crashes, hell we just had one 6 years ago. Then not even 2 years later there was an 8 month long downturn. And we nearly had another crash last year before policy got changed last minute. The AI bubble and affordability crisis will be the next crashes barring a black swan, we just better hope they don’t both pop at once.

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-16 02:47

I haven’t had the hardware upgrade done yet. I’ve got HW2.5 on that car currently, so no FSD until HW3 is installed next month.

goodvibezone 2026-02-16 03:24

*I believe it changed to you just have to "order" by that date, not actually own.

PsychologicalNoise 2026-02-16 18:18

Yeah buddy, in your dreams the subscription price is staying $100/mo. If it jumps by even $50 over the next year, the math is screwed and the longer you keep the car the more you're paying.

ZeroWashu 2026-02-18 20:39

It was $2,500 back in 2019 when I had it done, nice to see it dropped a bit. The upgrade was well worth it and because I acquired FSD by this route I transferred it to my new Y I bought last year. At $99 a month provided you can just pick a random month once or twice a year I think it would be very useful on a long trip. As for people paying $8k for it now, no way. Even with over half my miles via FSD since 14.2 it is not worth that much

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-18 20:45

The EAP -> FSD upgrade path was $2K. Not that it matters anymore, as that is no longer feasible.

Pliskin01 2026-02-18 23:00

That’s it, cheers! At the time I wished I could just get EAP because the only difference was summon or something else useless to me

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-19 15:51

EAP has served us very well from May 2018 through now. I just bought the FSD upgrade for $2K so I can swap it to a new vehicle purchase next month.

Pliskin01 2026-02-19 16:19

Congrats! I think you got the best deal combination they’ve offered for FSD, besides perhaps last year with the S and X

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-19 16:52

Thanks! Sure don’t have any complaints with how it’s worked out. Excited to have HW4 in a new Model Y in a month.

Phaedrus0230 2026-02-19 21:28

I'm borrowing the 8k on a margin account and paying $37/mo in interest... and it's bringing my insurance down by about $30/mo. So $99/mo or $7/mo. hmmmmmm

amcfarla 2026-02-24 18:23

I guess plan to total your Tesla before March 31st 2026, since April 1st you are SOL.

xadib39900 2026-03-06 16:18

when is this going to be launched in the UK?
