Only ugly cars will remain. Such a bad move. No one cares about robots.

NetJnkie 2026-01-28 23:25

Make room for robots? Sure, bud. If you believe that then I have a fully autonomous robot ready to sell you right now....

NetJnkie 2026-01-28 23:25

They've been losing money on the S and X for a while now. This isn't surprising.

doakills 2026-01-28 23:27

Once you see Lars and Franz depart this year you will then know exactly the date / end of Tesla as a mainstream consumer facing company other than a software and subscription / industry robotics company. It's on my bingo card they leave very soon.

Fatalorian 2026-01-28 23:39

So if S is done, can we get a Plaid 3 then? Tri-motor 1,000HP please.

LizardsoftheGhost 2026-01-28 23:43

idrift4wd 2026-01-28 23:53

Losing over half of the cars value after 3 years is impressive.

someboddies 2026-01-28 23:53

They’re way too expensive

T0TALDJ 2026-01-28 23:54

And here I was waiting for a facelift so I could buy one. Guess I’ll be using my 2020 S till it dies.

tempting_the_gods 2026-01-28 23:54

The X is the ugliest car in the S3XY lineup. I’m not sad to see that one go. Who wants a minivan, or at best an SUV without the SU part? I’ll admit that I’m very sad to see the S go, as it’s truly a beautiful halo vehicle even though sales are abysmal.

ca2mt 2026-01-28 23:56

Not sure that Optimus is the move if profitability is the deciding factor.

Zed03 2026-01-28 23:56

They needed to wide body the plaid-generation S to put rubber wide enough to support 1000hp. Wide body 3 would look goofy as hell

NetJnkie 2026-01-29 00:01

It’s to rally the stock. Optimus isn’t coming any day soon.

LegitPancak3 2026-01-29 00:04

Won’t they just do limited runs every few years or something?

seeasea 2026-01-29 00:04

Sales slowed, despite a refresh. Yes - other companies refresh every 4-5 years and an entirely new version every 8-10. Meanwhile, the S is still the same basic platform and 15 years old. The X is 12 years old.  Even the 3, we're coming on 8 years of age - they need to invest in new platforms - bring their innovations and architecture down to the older models.  They've designed essentially 4.5  vehicles total, and never once redesigned any.  And also horizontally - more vehicle options. Where's the Escalade competitor? Where's the coupe? Where's the small truck?  Ford has like 15 models. Toyota, GM, VW have like 40. Tesla has the money to design and deploy - but is choosing not to. They are too conservative, worried about a potential vehicle underselling - it's not behaving like a mature company

Maconi 2026-01-29 00:05

The public considers the Cybertruck a failure yet Tesla sells more Cybertrucks than the S + X combined. The writing has been on the wall for a while. The Roadster (assuming it is ever finished) will replace the Model S. The Model Y Long will replace the Model X.

FuckTrumpFuckElon 2026-01-29 00:05

The robots will replace ICE and they wont be friendly. Autonomous policing for the tech bro dictators to keep them safe.

LithoSlam 2026-01-29 00:07

I'm sure getting parts will be even worse now

LeaString 2026-01-29 00:07

I see *a lot* of mom’s and families with MXs. The Y doesn’t cut it. My husband is on his second MS (I have a Model 3) and I can tell you he has no desire to drive the Y not do I. Nor do I see people desiring a robot for their home or wanting to call up and wait for a robotaxi instead of owning their own vehicle and leaving to go where they want at a moments notice. You leave corporations to own things and you’ll be at their mercy even when they up costs. There are good reasons why taxis are primarily used in cities. No one is begging for subscriptions either. They couldn’t get the very expensive Roadster 2 out still, and the roads aren’t full of the semis. Such great promise we’ve seen but not followed through. Can see why shutting down Fremont for robots will see another exodus of talent. Not seeing this going well. Very saddened and disappointed in Tesla’s direction and leadership which is all over the place it seems with his other projects.

acethinjo 2026-01-29 00:10

So, no s3xy anymore? Just XY?

Lumpy-Strawberry9138 2026-01-29 00:18

I guess we’ll never see the Roadster 2.

johnnygobbs1 2026-01-29 00:26

Now they’re gonna go up like Porsches due to scarcity

tanbyte 2026-01-29 00:30

Well, the Roadster is for sure done then

nikkonine 2026-01-29 00:40

You won't buy cars in the future. You will subscribe to one. We used to buy CD organizers for our CD collection too. That would seem absurd now compared to Spotify.

iiTool 2026-01-29 00:42

Telsa already lose money continung to make the S and X. They are scrapping the production line to make room for something else, would cost too much and offer such a little return to continue to manufacture these. Lets face it, Telsa is no longer an automotive company.

iiTool 2026-01-29 00:43

CXY now but im sure the Cybertruck wont be around for much longer either.

Gernblanston10 2026-01-29 00:45

Very curious to see if this means Elon is giving up on practical SUVs for good. As a MYP owner, I love its utility, but there are a lot of families that need more size and space. Without the X, there is a significant hole in the lineup, and the Cybertruck isn’t going to fill it. Then again, there’s a hole in the lineup for more range, and that doesn’t seem to be something they’ll ever address given their approach at attacking the biggest spots in the market. Just remember, there’s more SUV and crossover drivers than sedan drivers in the U.S., and you probably won’t change the average American’s mind on their needs.

iceynyo 2026-01-29 00:47

Maybe they'll add sliding doors to the Y L lol

iceynyo 2026-01-29 00:48

EVs to replace ICE and robots to replace ICE

iceynyo 2026-01-29 00:49

3YYL

iiTool 2026-01-29 00:52

Lets face it, Tesla are moving away from being a consumer automotive company. Only potential new consumer vehicle on the horizon is Roadster 2.0 which will be low volume. Cybertruck probably wont see out the next year or two. 3 and Y will keep the revenue up to get Optimus and Robotaxi off the ground but even 3 and Y sales are dropping.

slo___mo 2026-01-29 00:57

Things like the yoke, little buttons for the horn, and buttons for turn signals we all had to put stickers on so we could find them without looking down didn't help things.

must_tang 2026-01-29 01:05

What happens to everyone that got FSD?

Yukycg 2026-01-29 01:05

Bye S3XY, welcome ROYC3 or COR3Y Robotaxi Optimus Y Cybertruck 3

AwwwComeOnLOU 2026-01-29 01:06

Will a brand new one, ordered today, have hardware 4?

amandatoryy 2026-01-29 01:07

You’ll get a robot and you’ll like it ![gif](giphy|l1J9u3TZfpmeDLkD6|downsized)

Rolandersec 2026-01-29 01:09

He wants some of that sweet “taxpayers don’t know they’re paying for it” money.

Academic_Release5134 2026-01-29 01:10

When are the making the sports car. Oh, they owe too many free ones, so never?

Academic_Release5134 2026-01-29 01:12

You will never see the Roadster. They owe too many free ones.

HazardousHD 2026-01-29 01:15

Tesla hasn’t been a car company for a while now.. But yes, those two leaving will be a true signal of that future

OmnipresentCPU 2026-01-29 01:21

Roadster will never happen

godisnotgreat21 2026-01-29 01:21

Robotaxi’s wont be nearly as popular as Elon thinks. The US is too spread out, suburbia is built for personally owned vehicles, not subscription robotaxi services. Nobody with small kids that need car seats will use a robotaxi. Nobody that carries anything of a significant size regularly (sports equipment) will abandon their personal vehicle. Robotaxi’s will replace Uber and Lyft , not personally owned vehicles. Having a car immediately available to you with all of your needed items is too convenient to be replaced with a subscription taxi service.

oOoWTFMATE 2026-01-29 01:23

I guarantee you there are more moms and families with model Ys than Xs lol

Whit3boy316 2026-01-29 01:26

Dang they really are leaving the car game

scupking83 2026-01-29 01:26

Tesla will end up with just the Y and 3. That being said the S was a good looking car. The Cybertruck was a failure and the X was never popular.

omega9910 2026-01-29 01:29

Hmmm should....should I trade my model 3 while I have the chance?

Brutaka1 2026-01-29 01:30

That's what you should be doing with the vehicle one has purchased. Why keep it for only 2 years, only to then sell it for some mediocre update? What a waste of money.

110010010011 2026-01-29 01:32

Well yeah. Tesla sells 20x more of them. But also a minivan is half the price of an X and more practical. I tried to make an X work, but ultimately ended up in a minivan.

cmdr-William-Riker 2026-01-29 01:33

They'll probably continue supporting older vehicles until they can find a way to legally drop support for older vehicles. Saying this as a 2018 M3 owner with FSD. I have no expectation that they will ever follow through on their word and upgrade the car to support unsupervised FSD. I got the car knowing this, but that doesn't let them off the hook, they still made claims that my car and pretty much every car they have sold in the last 10+ years was capable of full autonomy.

SirMaster 2026-01-29 01:37

Lots of people seem to be fine leasing their vehicles though.

Maximatum99 2026-01-29 01:38

Or maybe it would replace the "halo" vehicles.

askingforafakefriend 2026-01-29 01:48

New to $100,000 cars?

Tellittomy6pac 2026-01-29 01:54

I mean with it being a very small portion of their sales. I don’t really care. I would love to see a tri motor model 3 to replace the plaid and im golden

Fun_Muscle9399 2026-01-29 01:55

Sales slowed because they jacked the price up and didn’t refresh shit except for new plaid bumpers.

brayjr 2026-01-29 02:12

I think Elon / Tesla thinks there isn't enough room for Model S and Roadster. Maybe they're right. Guess we'll see

Foolhearted 2026-01-29 02:14

How hard will it be to get parts after this?

johnnyma45 2026-01-29 02:19

All luxury EVs. I’ve got my eye on an eTron GT that was $120k new. 2 years later it’s $44k, low miles. Screaming bargain now

Gru50m3 2026-01-29 02:20

I will literally die before I have a fucking humanoid robot in my home.

[deleted] 2026-01-29 02:27

[deleted]

frankwiles 2026-01-29 02:32

No, sales slowed because Elon got distracted by politics and sullied the brand. Get it right.

Fun_Muscle9399 2026-01-29 02:32

That too

n0oo7 2026-01-29 02:37

I believe the roadster will happen, but it will miss literally every benchmark besides 0-60 speed just like the Cybertruck (full price is hidden so thats a free win for the roadster) Edit: I think it'll beat the 1.9 0-60 speed. so 1 win rest L's.

GumGuts 2026-01-29 02:38

I wonder how the simplicity of the electric S/X line versus ICE engines will factor into this.

sdas99 2026-01-29 02:38

I can imagine people in the 1910s saying the same thing about cars

ckangnz 2026-01-29 02:45

Bomb after another weekly basis lol

Zealousideal_Aside96 2026-01-29 02:46

The cybertruck came out in the last 2 years after years of having hundreds of thousands of reservations. The S and X haven’t been substantially updated in their lifetime. It’d no wonder the CT sells more right now but it’s only going to go down from here

Zealousideal_Aside96 2026-01-29 02:47

There’s no X. You dropped the 3

Pdxlater 2026-01-29 02:47

It already has. Still difficult to get.

Pdxlater 2026-01-29 02:50

“People like you”??? It’s 6 years late! It was announced 9 years ago! Other manufacturers have created and moved on from entire generations of products in that time.

paulwesterberg 2026-01-29 02:57

DOD contract for 1M robots incoming.

Rolandersec 2026-01-29 02:58

ICE bots probably.

__waffleman__ 2026-01-29 03:01

dude a plaid model 3 would kick major ass

Tellittomy6pac 2026-01-29 03:06

Right! I’m not sure how the packaging would work but it would be sweet since at this point the only “plaid/tri motor model” is the CT beast. To me it seems like a waste to develop the plaid drivetrain and then NOT put it into another model.

BeachFuture 2026-01-29 03:11

What a prick. He is going to destroy Tesla too. I bought a MY LR 3 years ago, thinking that Tesla would make it as a car company and the charging station/infrastructure was best. I hope the Chinese made cars make it to the US in the near future. I know it is unlikely with Ford and GM lobbying against it.

Peemore 2026-01-29 03:12

I love this comment, lol.

ejpman 2026-01-29 03:13

We currently live in the year of our lord 2026 not 2022 ;)

mattriver 2026-01-29 03:14

You really think the X is the ugliest? If all four were the same price, I bet that the X would outsell them all, and S would come in second. To me, the X is the best looking (and most practical) of them all.

Odd_Manufacturer_328 2026-01-29 03:14

My grandfather said this when cars came out: he was around during horse and buggy.

ejpman 2026-01-29 03:18

Missed that boat by a few years

I'll place an order instantly.

doakills 2026-01-29 03:28

He keeps talking about abundance for all, but I'm unsure of what timeline this alien is living on to see this. Currently the same guy/party he gave a abundant donation to doesn't believe in the same abundance for you or I, just specific ones in a 5+% category maybe?

Flavoade 2026-01-29 03:30

From everything Elon has said over the years this was always the plan. He just wanted to start the catalyst to electrify the industry. The mission was successful and now it’s time to move to the next phase. They will still produce a few models so they can fulfill autonomous vehicles. It is a matter of time

RealMatthewDR 2026-01-29 03:34

I’ve spoken with both of them multiple times in the last couple of years and I’d be shocked if they left in 2026.

SnazzyLabs 2026-01-29 03:36

The X doesn’t cut it either. It’s dwarfed by the R1S, EV9, IONIQ9, and others.

[deleted] 2026-01-29 03:46

We can never trust any word that comes out of Musk’s mouth.

Demonking3343 2026-01-29 03:49

Disappointing, I always wanted a model S. Guess I’ll just have to take a look at the other brands now.

colinstalter 2026-01-29 03:50

Zero chance the roadster ever comes out.

Dangerous-Board9471 2026-01-29 03:51

If I can trust it, I’ll have it and I’ll like it!

TheJiggie 2026-01-29 03:56

I guess all those people losing jobs will just dress up in humanoid robot outfits, and get put on Tesla’s payroll?

doctor_code 2026-01-29 03:58

Yet the shitty Cybertruck is still being produced, what a joke. I say this as an owner of 2018 M3 and 2024 MY.

Ghostx054 2026-01-29 03:59

I test drove the new (refresh? MX). The highest id pay for one is 70k for the MXP or 60k for the base model, because anything over that is straight up highway robbery. Comparing it to the MY, your getting like 20-30% more car, for almost double the price

FBI-INTERROGATION 2026-01-29 04:01

Not sure the body of a 3 can correctly support 1000hp, not low enough, not wide enough.

_Useful_Researcher_ 2026-01-29 04:03

No S3XY but C3YO.

agk23 2026-01-29 04:04

Full sized sedan vs a coupe…

sch6808 2026-01-29 04:07

Model X Plaid is the coolest minivan ever and I'm totally okay with that. I have a wife, 2 kids, and a large dog, and I'm not interested in having a second car for a fun car. I drive a lot too, like 25k miles a year. I haven't found any other vehicle in the US market that offers everything the Model X Plaid does.

Jimmy_Durango 2026-01-29 04:07

That’s what I want. Unlock the full potential of the M3P. We know the current configuration can support a lot more power. Unlock it!

Jaws12 2026-01-29 04:08

As with any American manufacturer, they are required to supply replacement parts at least during the car’s original warranty period, so that’s something.

BakreZ39 2026-01-29 04:14

Despite the DOGE theatrics, he's always benefited from the teat of public taxpayer money

scifidre 2026-01-29 04:15

Are they going to offer a Plaid Y? I was looking at the S for the higher speeds and performance and now i'll be staying with another Y or moving to Lucid. I think Elon is jumping the gun a bit - Chinese bots are going to blow Optimus out of the water - quickly. Tesla should continue to make excellent cars and refresh their lines. I'm never going back to non-Electric only car companies.

RedTheRobot 2026-01-29 04:15

Don’t worry rather than buying a 100k car you can buy a 100k robot that is powered by AI (Actually an Indian).

sch6808 2026-01-29 04:19

Minivan that does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds is worth it.

Nihilater 2026-01-29 04:22

Discounting 2 lines of model and still no release of the Roadster 2...

kkittenring 2026-01-29 04:24

Considering it’s already abysmal, what do you think?

brayjr 2026-01-29 04:28

Model 3 exists. Model S was a halo product.

TYO_HXC 2026-01-29 04:31

Not MY lord, matey!

agk23 2026-01-29 04:43

Model 3 is a midsize

[deleted] 2026-01-29 04:49

So the newest MS owner has until 2034?

Single-Tomatillo4502 2026-01-29 04:54

Thats why the 3 just kept getting more and more expensive. Good luck competing with lucid now

Single-Tomatillo4502 2026-01-29 04:57

It shouldve been the cybertruck

Jaws12 2026-01-29 05:02

For drivetrain, should be so, yes. 🤞

TYO_HXC 2026-01-29 05:12

I refer you to the Liberty Walk widebody M3P Highland. It does NOT look goofy. It looks gorgeous, especially in black.

Voidfaller 2026-01-29 05:13

Family friend got an Etron and said it has a myriad of issues. :l

dub_soda 2026-01-29 05:20

lmao he just needs ANOTHER 8 years for the roadster, it’s coming bro trust him

[deleted] 2026-01-29 05:38

I wonder how those who have put $50k as deposit for 5 years are feeling about their $50k deposit now. 5 years of money could’ve been invested

dub_soda 2026-01-29 05:41

I just wonder how many horsepower his next lie will be now that China is cranking out $50k 1400hp cars

frheko 2026-01-29 06:15

I love my 2020 S. Super comfy, roomy, quiet, decent looks, practical (still amazed at how much stuff I can haul in it!), free supercharging, awesome sound system, super performance, excellent touring machine. I guess I’ll drive it until either the wheels and doors fall off or I gotta have some new tech that it doesn’t have.

Desperate-Review-727 2026-01-29 06:36

They literally just talked about it in the earnings call that was released today lol. It's obviously coming.

ambidexmed 2026-01-29 06:42

Same. But nothing compares to a model S. Im really dissappointed.

denzien 2026-01-29 06:52

They could have purchased $50k in silver

denzien 2026-01-29 06:53

May you be touched by his noodly appendage

TYO_HXC 2026-01-29 06:54

Now THAT is what I'm talking about! Pastafarians unite!

bremidon 2026-01-29 06:58

I think that is probably an accurate prediction.

[deleted] 2026-01-29 06:59

3000 HP, 0-60 in 0.3 seconds, have Space X mode that can shoot your car into space for 10 minute space travel. Please send me 100k deposit.

bremidon 2026-01-29 07:00

When it comes out, the shorts and short-wannabes will come up with some new line. It was late. It was not what was promised. Blah blah blah. It's tiresome.

bremidon 2026-01-29 07:02

Pretty sure in 1910 you would be claiming that all people really want are better horseshoes.

BlueShift42 2026-01-29 07:16

I love the S and X. Don’t really want a Y or 3 though. And Cybertruck is a non starter.

rnenjoy 2026-01-29 07:20

Only two boring ugly models left, and cybertruck.

DeinVermieter 2026-01-29 07:28

??? Is this a joke or do you actually believe that?

johnnygobbs1 2026-01-29 07:29

I totally believe it coming from someone who just dropped $500 on discontinued cologne that was once $30. It is the nature of all things.

jdkc4d 2026-01-29 07:39

It sounds like they have been slowly getting rid of them for a while now. Truth is that they were so expensive, they didn't sell as well as the lower cost vehicles. The other day, I was thinking about how in the US, production of sedans has really declined over the last decade. I was wondering if the S's days were numbered. I guess so. Shame about the X, though. Those gall-wing doors were awesome. Elon seems dead set on pivoting the whole company to make robots. I think the company should actually just expand by breaking up the divisions. Tesla Auto, Supercharger, and now Tesla AI. It would be no different than how Honda has all those different parts.

WrongdoerIll5187 2026-01-29 07:55

Hopefully we see some new models soon. Nobody will miss the current s and x, they just made no sense as product, the others just got all the design and production attention

PizzaPoweredLife 2026-01-29 08:31

While 95% of buyers still got the Model 3 or Model Y, everyone seems to be losing their minds.

acethinjo 2026-01-29 08:48

Yea, you're right, my bad. Was high while writing this.

PlaidmodeMama 2026-01-29 08:49

Agreed! I’m a mom with two kids and absolutely love my MXP. It’s fast, convenient with the doors for kids, good size. Very sad to read this news.

pudlepump 2026-01-29 08:59

Please let this mean we get air suspension in 3/Y 🤞 Bonus points for active noise cancelling 🤞🤞

NewMY2020 2026-01-29 09:18

Starting to believe that Tesla will be switching fully out of the automotive industry in the next 5 - 10 years. If you really think about it, they have the infrastructure with Charging, Road mapping, AI, Base self driving software, communications (Starlink), cargo to space transportation (SpaceX) and manufacturing, soon to come bi-pedal robots (if that ever becomes a thing). Why keep making cars? Just wind down the manufacturing side of the automotive factories, switch all Tesla service to support mode for the existing fleet and move onto greener pastures while establishing the same kind of dominance when the Model S first launched. I see the vision here but its (of course) at the cost of us consumers. elon/Tesla in general appear to be morphing into a defense contractor or infrastructure as a service company long term. Not only would it keep the stock value high, but purely speculative. I truly don't see any new Tesla vehicle models getting released. The 3 and the Y are IT.

rasin1601 2026-01-29 09:22

I mean he tanks the brand with his behavior and then pivots to this futurist word salad about a post-car future. How many people will want a robot with Tesla emblazoned across its chest, waking around the house? I love Tesla Motors; I cringe at Tesla Abundance.

rasin1601 2026-01-29 09:27

It’s frustrating because they make some of the best cars in the world.

et3rnul 2026-01-29 09:56

It’s not that these models will be missed, it’s the pivot from being a car company at all. It raises many more questions about their future as a company. In elon’s view, it’s all about autonomy, self driving cars and robots. In the past, he’s even mentioned that in some ways people won’t need to own cars, there will be so many autonomous vehicles and robots that it won’t make sense to own a car that sits there. What does that mean for my car needs? I want to buy a replacement for my model 3 and maybe get a Y (or something bigger). Most consumers will be skeptical and still want a traditional car to move their family around. Will that even be around in 5 years? Or will Tesla’s only option be to get an autonomous only car/ride? What does this mean about transitioning everyone to sustainable energy and transport? Tesla motors has done well but they haven’t exactly taken over the entire automarket. Most Americans still aren’t convinced on EVs - are they giving up on the mission of an EV? Without replacement models or expanding the lineup, I think the answer is yes. With the debacle of the cybertruck and the fact that their sales are dropping, it seems Elon has no choice but to start to exit the traditional car company model. I hope I’m wrong and we continue to see Tesla motors innovate and make owning a tesla the best car experience that we’ve enjoyed over the past years.

Glass_Tap_4494 2026-01-29 10:15

There comes a time where everyone makes a mistake and that is one.

carfo 2026-01-29 11:41

They probably just weren’t selling that well. Surprised no announcement on killing off the cybertruck

nico-von 2026-01-29 11:52

RIP beloved S

Live-Habit-6115 2026-01-29 12:13

The S is quite a bit bigger than the 3. Not to mention comfier. They're different segments

SnooBooks2086 2026-01-29 12:21

I’m curious what this will do to the value of the used inventory out there. Been thinking about selling my 2024 X Plaid. Would love to see the selling price go up with no future supply

sim16 2026-01-29 12:25

Cars are so reliable no parts are required.

RobertOfHill 2026-01-29 13:09

Chappie model coming?

tempting_the_gods 2026-01-29 13:24

Username checks out :)

tempting_the_gods 2026-01-29 13:38

Yes, I think it’s the ugliest. It goes MS > M3 (Highland) > MY (Juniper) > MX > Cybertruck. But I’m not counting the CT because who does? If all 4 were the same price, absolutely the X would sell many more, because it has more features. It’s literally double the cost of the 3 and Y today, which most people can either 1) not afford or 2) cannot justify the cost. When I was buying my first Tesla, I was considering the MS vs the M3(P). I’m fortunate enough to be able to comfortably afford an MS, but I could not justify the massive cost increase for only a few features that really didn’t mean much to me. It also drove poorly due to the suspension, but I think that’s because it’s so soft and I prefer the sportier feel (which will be subjective). To your point though, if both the M3 and the MS were the same price, I probably would have gone with the MS, but it’s incredibly difficult to justify at the current price point. MS is still the best looking though and I love the hatch of the MS. I get the need for a bigger vehicle, which the MX gives you (though still lacking the size of a full SUV like a Tahoe), but the market is saying that the current MX isn’t meeting the need of consumers. Once the MYL arrives in the US, it will cannibalize MX sales even further.

ca2mt 2026-01-29 14:39

Didn’t seem to work.

OmnipresentCPU 2026-01-29 14:46

Bro Elon said in the Q2 2024 earnings call that the engineering was pretty much complete and would be in production in 2025. Keeps kicking the can.

hoppeeness 2026-01-29 15:13

They said on the same call that Roadster is still planned for April. Though the also said Cybertruck lines would eventually transition to AV short distance delivery vehicles.

hoppeeness 2026-01-29 15:14

They aren’t a car company anymore. They are an AV company. Cybertruck will go to AV short distance delivery van too eventually. Also said on same call. Roadster still aiming for April.

LeadReverend 2026-01-29 15:16

I was planning on pursuing a S Plaid when my current MYP lease runs out next year, which is now off the table. I'd potentially consider a used one, but that's problematic as well now too. Trying to figure out if used Plaid prices go up or down: 1. Up, because scarcity is going to be a real thing now, even more so than it currently is, for a completely bonkers yet affordable hypercar, OR 2. Down, because the model is discontinued and will likely get little support going forward (and certainly no meaningful software development). M3P or another MYP will probably be my options, unless another manufacturer has something more compelling. I get the reason...sales volumes aren't there...but still highly disappointing.

hoppeeness 2026-01-29 15:17

Model Y still the number 1 or 2 best selling vehicle of any kind in 2025… I know it’s a popular talking point but all EV sales are down in North America. Ford/GM both cutting vehicles. Lightning and Bolt are dead.

Turbulent-Chest-4252 2026-01-29 15:28

2026 is a facelift ….. we’ve had 2017 MS 75D, 2021 MSP, and since they changed the front end and rear this summer we now have 2026 MSP … looks like we got the last hurrah… idk what we will do in a few years 😭

Plaid_Piper 2026-01-29 16:22

So they are getting rid of their only good cars. Got it.

T0TALDJ 2026-01-29 16:39

After the 2015->2016 facelift, all minor changes were meh. The recent Model 3 and Y facelifts were amazing though and that’s the kind of refresh I was waiting for. It just doesn’t make sense for me to buy a near 100k car when my previous one looks 90% identical.

jaysedai 2026-01-29 16:50

I've dreamed of owning an X plaid since it came out. I was about 2 years away. Now I'm very sad. Excuse me while I go burn my Optimus t-shirt in protest.

Sorge74 2026-01-29 17:02

It's a weird product for sure, made a lot more sense for consumers before there were more traditional EV offerings.

CyberKillua 2026-01-29 17:14

Used market? Why do you have to buy a new car..?

SelectCattle 2026-01-29 17:39

The death spiral continues.

Demonking3343 2026-01-29 17:45

No one’s saying I had to buy a brand new one. I’m just saying I’m less inclined to buy a used one now that it’s been discontinued. Because that’s just going to lead to less replacement parts.

Christhebobson 2026-01-29 18:01

Honestly, please. I dislike the S's boaty size compared to the 3.

Christhebobson 2026-01-29 18:04

If you're already worried about having to fix a car before you get it, then whatever car you're looking at is definitely not a car you should get.

Demonking3343 2026-01-29 18:07

And that’s my whole point. If you have to worry about replacement parts then might as well not even buy a used one.

ImperfectDrug 2026-01-29 18:44

What's a halo product?

Christhebobson 2026-01-29 18:58

I'm saying if that's what you're worried about, don't buy it at all, new or used.

Turbulent-Chest-4252 2026-01-29 19:04

All three of mine were red 🥴🥴 2026 is a darker red… but red lol! Family members still think we have the same car from 2017 — unless they know anything. Butttt at 100k give me a car that’s as fast as the plaid and family friendly. 💨💸That’s our seller. We had a M3P after S 75D then they let us borrow a p100d for a week and it changed everything. You think you have fast then there’s mind blowing. If you haven’t gotten to drive a plaid — just do it for experience. Overall I’m actually sad S & X are discontinued. But do agree 3 & Y facelift is great — way premature considering just giving up on S & X. Gonna be stuck with this one for awhile. My husband won’t be seen driving my Cybertruck 🤓

nikkonine 2026-01-29 19:09

Everyone that down voted me still buys CD's and gets their Netflix via the mail. Just wait

HellsNels 2026-01-29 19:28

Lucid Air is your closest viable replacement here in the states.

allofdarknessin1 2026-01-29 19:54

This still feels unreal to me. One of the reports said they'll be retooling the factory for Optimus bots... like I get why that would be important at some point in the future but they aren't to my knowledge a proven technology/product. Optimus bots are even fully autonomous as far as I know, The Model S and X are already proven products. If sales and cost is a factor, there's a lot of options they could take, like cutting the base model/trims, raising the price or do what a ton of people asked and offer a more compelling refresh, and/or make it more luxury. If the autnomy push is gonna make soooo much money, then why can't they just make another factory and use that?

allofdarknessin1 2026-01-29 20:12

That's the crazy part, if Tesla was just a EV that was kinda fast it would be understandable but they make some of the best cars in the world. Reliable, efficient, the self driving assistant features are worlds beyond anything else on the market and the S is the fastest accelerating car you can buy new.

iiixii 2026-01-29 20:15

The top of the line product that allows the manufacturer to attrack interrest in the brand by showcasing new tech even through it's poor value and they get better margins on a different product. Model S isn't a halo product.

Disastrous-Roof-5046 2026-01-29 20:29

Well there goes Tesla I see more X and S than 3 and y

rasin1601 2026-01-29 20:59

I’d feel more comfortable if any of these new products were finished. Betting the company on Model 3 made sense. They had prototypes. They knew the addressable market. In this new area of “sustainable abundance” (a phrase that Orwell would delight in), the products are just as dubious as the vaunted solar roof. It’s an undisciplined mess of broken schedules and pointless hype.

RedPandaExplorer 2026-01-29 21:17

But what if they don't. They can just... Not do that. Who's going to investigate them, the US government that has received millions from Elon? I'd be selling my Tesla ASAP, you're not getting replacement parts

GiantPandammonia 2026-01-29 23:37

Lucid Gravity?

nikkonine 2026-01-29 23:40

They will be pretty popular in other cities and might compete with mass transit. It won't be as popular in central US stated but it will be popular in big cities where it is a pain to park and you don't want to drink and drive and you can hail a Cyber cab to get you. Eventually it will be so cheap and younger generations won't want to buy a car and pay personal property tax, maintenance and oil changes. When it knows your schedule and picks you up based on your mobile calendar or you can hail on in 5 minutes it will win out. It will take a while in US. It took a while before computers came without a CD Rom too.

emodro 2026-01-30 00:28

They’re an audio visual company? Bro are you new? Teslas were supposed to drive for you when you were at work in 2019. That shit ain’t happening in the next decade.

cinnamonbabka69 2026-01-30 00:44

I know it's a popular talking point but GM's EV sales were up 48% in North America last year while Tesla's sales declined.

DM-Coronabeer 2026-01-30 01:23

Is this the beginning of the end for Tesla? I hope not.

Jaws12 2026-01-30 02:51

There’s these things called courts, where you can sue a company and get damages for breach of contract. Not honoring an express warranty would be a breach of contract (and violate the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975).

hoppeeness 2026-01-30 03:39

True but that is only because they didn’t sell any real numbers. They were still less than a 10th of teslas.

hoppeeness 2026-01-30 03:42

It’s not happening right now in Austin? Currently it drives me around while I am on my phone most of the time.

emodro 2026-01-30 03:42

So you’re in the car…

dragadi1 2026-01-30 07:14

I’d go with a Lucid Air. Check it out it is the better car for less money.

dragadi1 2026-01-30 07:15

Lucid air is the better car for less money

dragadi1 2026-01-30 07:15

Lucid air is the better car for less money

Gambero50 2026-01-30 11:04

On April 1st?

BMWbill 2026-01-30 13:41

You can be sure most people here are knowledgeable EV car fans and know about the Lucid Air. The reason Tesla cars always stood above the rest is they have a massive charging network under the same brand, and there are now service centers all over the place. Lucid is still so small that most people have to travel very far to a service place if their car breaks down.

dragadi1 2026-01-30 14:59

I’d expect that you are also aware of the mobile service fleet they have. If you have an issue with your car they’d come to your place and fix the car if they can. If not they’d provide you with a loaner vehicle and bring the faulty car to their service center.

DocZo 2026-01-30 15:28

This pivot to building less cars and “transportation as a service” is nonsense. You like full autonomy? Fine. But don’t punish the rest of us who want to drive. I’m never buying a 3 or Y, I was holding out for an S with AI5. Tesla has really pissed me off.

BMWbill 2026-01-30 15:40

Yes, just like Tesla gas mobile repairs. Which I have used but often I’ve had to bring my car on like the time they swapped my seat to fix a rattle or the time they swapped my struts that began making noise. I’ve met Lucid owners who complain they loose their car for many days for something that could take just an hour to address at a service station. Rivian is in the same boat here, but I feel they are a few years ahead in expanding their number of service centers.

T0TALDJ 2026-01-30 15:57

You know what, I haven’t tried the Plaid and exactly for the reason that I’d like it and I’d want it. I might consider a used Plaid in 2-3 years. I might checkout the Taycan too.

whitemiketyson 2026-01-30 16:25

That must smell incredible.

whitemiketyson 2026-01-30 16:28

They're saying the discontinuation will lead to a scarcity of parts. This wasn't a concern before.

scifidre 2026-01-30 17:14

I will be moving to Lucid for my next car.

cinnamonbabka69 2026-01-30 17:32

Nothing you can say will make what you said true. The truth is GM's EV sales were up 48% in North America last year while Tesla's sales declined.

hoppeeness 2026-01-30 17:34

What I said was true and what you said was true. Both can be true. Mine just gives context to yours. If GM was so successful at selling EVs they wouldn’t be cancelling all of them.

StopSelling2k 2026-01-30 17:51

They are though, ripping out the SX lines and replacing them with Optimus I know first hand

NetJnkie 2026-01-30 18:08

Sure. Optimus is nowhere close to actually ready. We know that. Hell, Boston Dynamics is WAY ahead of Tesla and isn't ready. Tesla's demos have all been human controlled.

StopSelling2k 2026-01-30 18:13

I agree the progress of Optimus autonomy can be debated, if Optimus autonomy isn’t rapidly progressing then they’re going to have a factory made to build duds LOL Also I feel it’s important to keep in mind that the manufacturing process and actual manufacturing at scale for Optimus is another issue that needs to be solved, so they’re replacing the line to get ahead of that. This will be production hell 2.0, a novel product and manufacturing process.

NetJnkie 2026-01-30 18:30

Hard to debate for it when so far it’s remote human controlled

LS_Lime_Candy 2026-01-30 19:09

It won’t happen in the next century! What idiots would let their cars roam the streets (alleys, dumping grounds, busy malls, etc) with strangers while they work?

cinnamonbabka69 2026-01-30 22:21

What you said is demonstrably false. Nothing you can say can make "all EV sales are down in North America" true. GM's EV sales are not down, they are up. Tesla's sales are down.

Grouchy-Copy-8568 2026-01-30 23:07

Any vehicle that gets a significant redesign or move to a new platform results in the previous versions parts all having a limited timeline; very little ever carries over generation to generation, even if the name lives on.

Grouchy-Copy-8568 2026-01-30 23:12

Whether it's a (long overdue) full redesign, or total model cancellation, parts for the outgoing generation will always have a limited OE supply.

hoppeeness 2026-01-31 00:30

All EV sales were down Q4 in the US QoQ.

gunfriends 2026-01-31 02:29

This is the best deal in the auto world right now. Second is used hybrid and full electric porches 4 year old tacyans over half off.

heartrem 2026-01-31 09:28

I'm really sick and tired of my Tesla model 3 2018 long range( early adopter) I feel as though it's falling apart. Bushings replaced $2,000 air condition making a loud noise $1,600( still making a loud noise) not going into park. When you push the button on the stalk stalk replaced $600 Right fender camera stopped working not damaged $600. This is a car with only 57,000 mi on it. No accidents and what's worse is Tesla service. I'm here in Fort Lauderdale where there's a lot of Teslas and the service center is horrible. They have lied to me, held my car for entire days from an 11:00 a.m. To 6:00 p.m. not touched it once. Even though I had an appointment from weeks earlier, I asked for them to save the parts that I paid for which Florida law states they're supposed to save the replaced parts. If you pay full price they didn't save the parts. For me. This is the final nail on the coffin. I will never buy another Tesla again and I would recommend anybody to be very careful because you cannot really go anywhere else besides to Tesla to get your car fixed and they just don't care and the service you get is subpar. You pay top dollar and you get subpar service and deceit

RojerLockless 2026-02-01 07:09

Or the people who had enough referrals for a free one lol

Aethreas 2026-02-01 18:59

If they deny a valid warranty because they don’t have parts, they would be legally required to pay out the cost of the vehicle or you can sue them for even more, why do you think they’d need to be ‘investigated’?

romanohere 2026-02-01 21:55

Soon not a company anymore

romanohere 2026-02-01 21:56

Same

romanohere 2026-02-01 21:59

If they give away the new S for 70/80,k will you buy it?

romanohere 2026-02-01 22:01

That had a huge impact

romanohere 2026-02-01 22:03

With a 1mpixel cameras,? No way

RedPandaExplorer 2026-02-02 13:53

Because Elon Musk is a multi billionaire and has broken the law plenty so far and people are still buying his products. Life isn't a board game where you go 'Hey wait, you did X so Y gets triggered' There's an entire wiki of the 1200+ times Tesla has been sued. They haven't lost all those lawsuits.

Blown90Vette 2026-02-04 23:08

I wonder if the roadster is be the base for a S/X type …

hoppeeness 2026-02-04 23:33

Doubtful. They moved on from cars for general public that aren’t AV or to get them money for AVs

Coveal33 2026-02-06 08:04

100% agree. But with only M3 and Y, trust in the brand will drop and people will look elsewhere. It's so unfortunate from a consumer perspective. My M3P Highland is such a good car and the costs like maintenance are so low. I'd have a hard time finding an alternative at this price point.

Spar7an42 2026-02-08 04:44

Apparently you're new. The Robotaxi fleet is in deployment phase and they are fully driverless.

emodro 2026-02-08 04:45

Really, where do I sign up my 2019 Model 3 or 2023 Model Y? It's cool owners in Austin have their cars driving people around and making money while they're at work...

Spar7an42 2026-02-08 04:46

All of the boomers with kids like you, who won't help them age with dignity. All of them will buy the robot to replace their spoiled, self-centered children.

Vb_33 2026-02-11 05:26

So is the cybertruck. :(

Vb_33 2026-02-11 05:34

Sales for the S and X were bad long before that.

gnoxy 2026-02-16 23:15

I think the first 250 or so have to be given away to influencers who hawked Tesla way back when.

gnoxy 2026-02-16 23:16

Would they get the first ones? If so the first 250 will go to them.

gnoxy 2026-02-16 23:18

Should not take much to turn the Cybertruck into CyberSUV.

RojerLockless 2026-02-17 04:04

Who knows
