This is nothing more than a marketing push to get current HW3 owners to trade into a newer car with HW4 before the FSD transfer deadline.

Unsupervised FSD is still a decade away as the access to compute for handling edge cases and have the reasoning and adaptability people have is a mirage. If only Tesla had made the supervised FSD available to masses (cheaper subscription), they would have a great deal more training data to handle different permutations and combinations of boundary conditions. Scientifically, the true Level 4/5 autonomy in cars is no closer to reality than the AGI.

Ahhh but when I bought my FSD I was told the car already had everything needed to become a robo taxi, just needed to wait for the software update coming later in the year... back in 2019. Yeah, I know - should have gotten it in writing.

Tesla Rule#1: Elon Lies HW2.5 was supposed to do all the things but then we needed to get the HW3 retrofit. And HW3 has issues that get corrected with HW4 but nope we can’t go HW3->HW4 even though there was talk of another retrofit. Now HW5 is about to become a thing.

To be fair my hw4 seems to self drive just fine.

I think someone spends a lot of money to bury critical headlines and create/promote beneficial ones.

If you talk to an actual engineer you will soon see that redundant sensors other than cameras and software are needed. So HW4 is also a lie.

cars just have be safer than humans overall not better in every specific circumstance. People have failings that AI doesn't like falling asleep and drunk driving or just plain distractions. So AI has a good lead in those spots.

A very misleading title - Musk said only "yup" to someone expressing an opinion that better hardware isn't necessary. That's quite different from Musk making a public statement that A14-equipped cars with FSD are now ready for unsupervised driving.

Did they fix the incorrect speed limits? Did they let you adjust the speed using the scroll wheel again? If not, forget it.

HW3 or even HW4 earlier versions totally had some flaws. I'm referring to HW4 >=v14.2.2. Insanely good now.

I don't have a source, but I had a HW1 and when it was released, fully autonomous was the exciting promise. If I can find a claim beyond my recollection, I will post it. EDIT: You are correct, and it appears my recollection was in error. Thank you for the correction.

For example I know the made a blog post (and just recently deleted it) that clearly stated that hw2 was fully capable. That's why they had to offer free upgrades to hw3. No such upgrades were available for hw1 that I know of. But for sure Elon talks a lot about a lot of things so there may have been implications that it would be but I don't think it was specifically promised.

AI5 hits less potholes. AI6 avoids even more potholes by 50%. AI7 flies over potholes.
