2026 Model S Plaid Standard Carbon Ceramics Brakes

jaed7 | 2025-09-01 17:42 | 75 views

I just watched the Jay Leno's Garage about the 2026 Model S Plaid and Lars said that carbon ceramic brakes are standard now on the plaid and you have to request to have them removed. On teslas site it says \- Optimized Performance Staggered wheels and tires maximize grip and stability while carbon ceramic brakes"5"on Plaid provide extra stopping power. Foot Note: ^(5) Sold separately Anyone buy a S as of late have have more info. My lease is up in December and I am trying to gather some info on this generation.

I have the same question, does that mean I'm paying $20k for them or not.

That would be a bad idea. Ceramics aren't the best on the streets and around town. Plus, they are $$$$ when you need new ones.

Hans-0815 2025-09-01 21:13

Yeah nah, they’re still an extra. Tesla site says sold separately, so either Lars misspoke or they haven’t updated anything yet.

Modern ceramics are fine for daily driving, I have them on my McLaren and it’s perfectly fine for around the town. And there is no brake dust, and the rotors last a long time unless you go to the track.

Plus you barely use the brakes daily driving anyway.

Unlike most ceramics that work best hot, these are the opposite and bite the best when cold. Perfect for the Plaid EV

I watched the same video. I understood that they are around $20K including the wheels and based on his response to Leno, if you uncheck them from your build, I'm assuming it takes $20K off the price. At least that's the impression I got from his not so clear response.

MECO_2019 2025-09-02 12:22

From what I can see, the Plaid configurator doesn't mention anything about ceramic brakes being included with Plaid. Maybe he was saying that ceramic brakes could be removed from the "Track Package", and not "Plaid" ?

I also wonder how it will work with a lease since I don't see it on a configuration page and I don't want to pay 20k on a lease.

it says carbon ceramics are sold separately on the site

TheLawIX 2025-09-02 21:01

They're not on the demo Plaid at my local dealer.

feurie 2025-09-02 22:08

No it isn’t.

gorkish 2025-09-02 23:31

Yeah I didn’t think this was unclear. When you click to order a plaid on the site it will default to having all the top end options selected, but the price of those options will also be applied. TBH I seem to recall they do this on a lot of their options already as the add to cart process is already a step by step thing.

[https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-s-plaid-track-package](https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-s-plaid-track-package) Looks like sold separately.

Altruistic_Welder 2025-09-03 04:17

The carbon ceramics are sold separately. Not a part of the standard plaid build. 24k - with the 20" wheels 19.5k without the wheels ( but you need the 21" arachnids to get this package)

Ljhughes8 2025-09-03 18:09

Jay was talking about the track pack. The 20k

MECO_2019 2025-09-03 19:45

That makes more sense. Thx
