Could he just be using FSD? Did the car have any markings as taxi or tesla? Cause all I see is TCP sticker

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 18:30

The TCP sticker is what indicates it.

GeniusEE 2025-08-23 18:31

Those things need hazard tape across the bumpers.

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 19:07

Literally zero injuries, but ok.

Not sure how common it is honestly, since I don't live in California. But I think odds are that if it's a new Model Y with a TCP sticker, then it's probably a Robotaxi. I think the taillight being on when it's sunny out is also an indicator.

They don't use the Robotaxi branding in California right now. Maybe because by law they're currently required to have a human in the driver's seat, and they're not allowed to indicate that it's an autonomous car in any way. Also, not sure if you're aware, but they launched the service in the Bay Area a couple weeks ago.

Huh? What did I say that's incorrect?

The "maybe" was for why they're not using the Robotaxi branding on the cars. I'll ask you again: What did I say that's incorrect? I suspect you won't be able to list anything.

imacleopard 2025-08-23 20:08

Cool? 🍪

GeniusEE 2025-08-23 20:24

Sudden maneuvers, but OK

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 20:31

Humans make more sudden maneuvers than FSD.

rome425 2025-08-23 20:36

About a month ago I saw a Model Y with Robotaxi written on it in South Lake Tahoe. Not sure what to make of it 🤷🏼‍♂️

GeniusEE 2025-08-23 20:41

This isn't FSD

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 20:44

It's a newer version of FSD, so it's even better.

StainedTeabag 2025-08-23 21:29

Used FSD in my Juniper and took quite a few rides in Waymo’s over a weekend in SF. My wife and I thought the Waymo’s felt significantly safer for us and pedestrians and felt more confident.

Illustrious_Comb5993 2025-08-23 21:29

Its not a robotaxi if it has a driver. Tesla has yet to have a single Robotaxi drive anywhere

DMC_Ryan 2025-08-23 22:09

Sure but the production build of FSD in your car is six months behind the robotaxi build. I’m eager to try robotaxi here in SF once I get invited to use it. It’ll be fun to compare it to Waymo in SF (which has been great in my experience).

TechSupportTime 2025-08-23 22:09

TCP sticker just means that they're a licensed for hire charter company. Doesn't mean it's Tesla.

StainedTeabag 2025-08-23 22:39

I agree! I can’t wait to try it as well. I’m just reporting my observations not making any inferences.

GeniusEE 2025-08-23 23:11

Lol It has been for the last 11 years

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 23:16

Excuse me? I already said the FSD that's on my car today makes sudden maneuvers less often than humans do. It doesn't need this newer version for that. It's just *even better*. Understand?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 23:24

Yes, but it's almost certainly Tesla.

TechSupportTime 2025-08-23 23:28

Based on? Source?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-08-23 23:30

It's a new Model Y, Tesla started the Robotaxi service in the Bay Area a couple weeks ago, the taillight is on while it's sunny out...

AndrewNeo 2025-08-24 01:43

Actual source: https://tcportal.cpuc.ca.gov/TCP/s/account/001cs00000LKFelAAH/tesla-inc

TechSupportTime 2025-08-24 01:45

Awesome. Thank you 👍

[deleted] 2025-08-24 13:22

How could you tell? Because it had a safety driver, follow car and remote operator to complete the illusion delusion?

Kayyam 2025-08-24 14:24

There has a been a lot of drives without a driver. Safety passenger is not a driver.

yetiflask 2025-08-24 18:52

Was it because FSD felt more hesistant, or went too up close to pedestrians? Just curios why it felt that way. SF is also very ped-heavy, so I assume you would be able to see the difference pretty easy.

Big-Dudu-77 2025-08-25 00:15

I just got an invite to robotaxi beta

whalechasin 2025-08-25 00:59

what city?

Big-Dudu-77 2025-08-25 01:44

SF. But surprisingly they charge a fee. Not paying.

whalechasin 2025-08-25 05:36

does the invite state there will be a monitor in the driver’s seat?

Smart_Hand2147 2025-08-25 07:51

There are and have been Waymo cars in and around Phoenix for years. They used to have a driver reading a book or something, but now they very rarely have a driver at all. Lately I probably see two or three when I’m just driving to the grocery store. Sometimes on the way to pick someone up so no one in the car at all!

UltraLisp 2025-08-25 12:40

False.

sprashoo 2025-08-25 18:24

If I compare FSD today to 6 months ago, extrapolating forward 6 months doesn’t make me think it will be viable fully autonomous

DMC_Ryan 2025-08-25 18:27

There hasn’t been a single FSD update in the last six months, LOL. (Outside of “minor fixes” updates)

sprashoo 2025-08-25 19:30

Yes…

CaliforniaCreamy 2025-08-25 20:23

Waymo almost hit my loaner Tesla head on in Hollywood over the weekend it was swerving left and right heavily

Big-Dudu-77 2025-08-26 02:53

I didn’t read it thoroughly so I can’t say.

Ok_Wasabi_8318 2025-08-26 17:44

Tesla "robotaxi" in Austin is not better than waymo.  Awkward Tesla Robotaxi incident proves they are putting optics over safety | Electrek https://share.google/iJ7R1Nd1QDGh0GUbT The fact that musk purposely dropped lidar proves safety isnt his top priority. Id never get into a robotaxi
