New Model S spotted again

SongLeeYan | 2025-06-08 03:44 | 1519 views

I spotted a Model S parked in the new color and the slight tweaks they are doing for the refresh I heard is coming soon

Capable-Reach7509 2025-06-08 06:14

Nice but it’s getting mad annoying they aren’t changing more

WilliamG007 2025-06-08 06:14

That color really does the car no favors.

Ssjultrainstnict 2025-06-08 06:20

Looks like they got rid of the floating tesla symbol in the front. Sad, i actually liked that symbol, looked pretty cool.

jarbystep 2025-06-08 06:22

It became even uglier disappointed even though I hadn't planned to buy a Model S

Elf_Paladin 2025-06-08 06:31

Such an underwhelming update tbf

posey_mvp 2025-06-08 06:34

That’s the most under whelming refresh

shibiwan 2025-06-08 06:39

I'm not a fan of the new wheels. Hideous.

Repulsive-Wall-9031 2025-06-08 06:40

New? It looks as, if not more, boring than the current one? That looks exactly like this.

ArrogantSquirrelz 2025-06-08 06:42

The back looks like a Grand Prix

Mistress-DragonFlame 2025-06-08 06:44

Step backwards in design and color, imo.

LoogyHead 2025-06-08 06:58

It’s there, it’s just blacked out.

Ssjultrainstnict 2025-06-08 06:59

Looks like its just a single plastic piece inside, instead of a floating symbol that used to link up with the dip in the slit

Mookafff 2025-06-08 07:00

Why does this look more dated than the current Model S (which I still love the look of) Is it the color?

trustfundkidpdx 2025-06-08 07:16

What’s the new range 😩

theineffablebob 2025-06-08 07:24

I don’t think this refresh will help sales

dhp1161 2025-06-08 07:25

The 3 and Y refresh were pretty good. Idk wtf this is tho

Ok_Sale8197 2025-06-08 07:26

I’m thinking it’s that rear bumper. Looks more dated looking.

Adulations 2025-06-08 07:27

Meh

nomis_nehc 2025-06-08 07:36

That front now looks like the aftermarket refresh kit. Looks worse for sure.

ahfmca 2025-06-08 07:36

So boring, Sales will plummet.

Prior-Explanation389 2025-06-08 07:44

Crazy. The Model S is almost 13 years old. Needs a complete refresh from the ground up, it’s the exact same basic shape as a 2012 model.

Crossgolf 2025-06-08 07:44

They should have at least updated the lights.

Fast_Dragonfruit_883 2025-06-08 07:53

What city is this in?

rustybeancake 2025-06-08 08:14

Tesla’s new design language is “shit rear ends”.

[deleted] 2025-06-08 08:15

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 08:19

Why can’t they fix the rear trunk alignment still!

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 08:22

Guessing Palo Alto

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 08:27

Underwhelming

Lynbrook High School.in West San Jose

sukaface 2025-06-08 08:40

There’s no way this is it… S and X will have the light bar soon enough.

7wiseman7 2025-06-08 08:40

why not incorporate more of the new Model Y Design language ffs

PrcrsturbationNation 2025-06-08 08:41

Yeah. I’m sure that many of the same people here that are complaining about this, also complained about the new Model Y upon release which has clearly been growing on people.

franeti 2025-06-08 08:41

And is the turn signal stalk back? Nobody checks that! 😅

cookingboy 2025-06-08 08:58

That rear end is easily the most outdated design on the entire car. It kinda just screams "early 2010s", which it is. It's been 13 years since the Model S came out, with most other OEMs it would have been *two* major redesigns. It seems like they really just don't care for the S/X anymore. And exterior aside, the cabin tech of the S/X are *hopelessly* outdated these days. Pretty much all other competitors in this segment offer super high end heads up displays, 3D surround view, true hands free ADAS (no need to touch the steering wheels), etc. My current i4 has the *last gen* BMW HUD and it looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/7rhmhtx The newer ones are even more impressive. Edit: for people who have said they’ve received 2 major redesigns, what they’ve received are called *facelifts* in the industry. And I know many people here don’t want tech like HUD or think the Model S/X still look great. Well, most of the consumers think otherwise and the sales number speaks for itself.

OcclusalEmbrasure 2025-06-08 09:00

Definitely squeezing every last bit of juice on this one

Kind_Baby9523 2025-06-08 09:09

It’s obviously not a new refresh of the model S but just a current customised model… 🤣

mikami677 2025-06-08 09:11

Yeah, I don't like it as much. I wonder if there will end up being some aftermarket options to mimic the floating look.

Axle-f 2025-06-08 09:11

3 looks great. Y front end is bland. This is just BYD Sealified.

Jasoncatt 2025-06-08 09:29

Wow, looks just like the old Model S.

Jasoncatt 2025-06-08 09:30

And the rind. And the pith. In fact, one could say that they're taking the pith...

YoungFlexibleShawty 2025-06-08 09:52

We need a total redesign, not a refresh

YoungFlexibleShawty 2025-06-08 09:54

Its sadly the new refresh lol the interior is updated and also new wheels

bIokeonreddit 2025-06-08 09:55

Looks like the updated non-Plaid variant.

Burlap_Crony 2025-06-08 10:08

I was coming here to say that!!! I don’t know that I like it

Then_Instruction_145 2025-06-08 10:17

Tesla needs to give this a new design with the lowest drag co efficient ever and upgrade to steer by wire and 400 volt architecture and the plaid needs to be the fastest in the world again. Cant be having a lucid do a 1.89

ArchGryphon9362 2025-06-08 10:26

YOOO that’s a beautiful color!! also is the bumper camera a new thing?

Jattwaadi 2025-06-08 10:31

Looks like a lot of the BYD Seal though

AlwaysStayHumble 2025-06-08 10:38

Definitely the color

AlwaysStayHumble 2025-06-08 10:41

Very meh color. Why not a dark green, purple or something different like a matte finish?

leinadsey 2025-06-08 10:41

What’s new? Looks exactly the same. I wish they’ve gone for the Y rear end, that looks good. These rear lights look old. As in, Ford Focus old.

Haute_Horologist 2025-06-08 10:42

originalmember 2025-06-08 10:42

I always wanted Continental tires on my luxury sports car.

azgoodaz 2025-06-08 10:44

We're getting refreshes every 2 years now? How about battery increase? Would love to see a 400 or 500 mile range to compete with traditional cars.

Maconi 2025-06-08 10:51

Elon would say “you don’t need a HUD when the car is driving itself”. I don’t think he’ll ever allow it.

WEZANGO 2025-06-08 10:52

Is it me or are clear parts of the rear light aren’t in line? Seem like one on the trunk is higher than the other side

[deleted] 2025-06-08 11:07

[removed]

WEZANGO 2025-06-08 11:11

I love a good head up display, but that HUD is too much. Navigation could be much more minimalistic. You’re not in a fighter jet, why so much useless info.

theavatare 2025-06-08 11:12

My exact feeling in the y and this

TheDataAddict 2025-06-08 11:17

Naturebrah 2025-06-08 12:14

Why do the wheels scream Honda

Oneinterestingthing 2025-06-08 12:19

Yeah just wow, looks so plain, rim job covers are really bad

Academic_Release5134 2025-06-08 12:33

Yeah kinda hilarious that it comes from the company that was so afraid of distractions they created the idrive

jorvall81 2025-06-08 12:45

That bumper camera tho 👀

Smartnership 2025-06-08 12:53

> Would love to see a 400 or 500 mile range to compete with traditional cars. From 2020. Can I introduce you to the Long Range Plus https://www.tesla.com/blog/model-s-long-range-plus-building-first-400-mile-electric-vehicle/

SarcasticNotes 2025-06-08 12:57

I don’t know that I’d evenn bother calling this a refresh. They add the interior lighting, front bumper camera, and some slight changes to the extierior.

hoppeeness 2025-06-08 12:59

Are we sure that is new and not just someone’s custom body kit and paint? Any interior pics? Edit 20250613: I stand corrected sounds like it’s the refresh…new color and minor tweaks and a front camera.

Nhonickman 2025-06-08 13:00

Very subtle changes. I need to see a current model S next to this. I like the front camera 📸 Not sure how I feel about the wheel covers. I love the look of my 2023 Model S but do wish it had a front camera

[deleted] 2025-06-08 13:10

This isn’t the refresh.

Xalucardx 2025-06-08 13:10

It looks like some old shitty Pontiac or Chevy from the 90s. Yuck.

sielingfan 2025-06-08 13:13

I don't even like them in planes TBH. HUD babies are autopilot backup systems. Pilots look outside.

allofdarknessin1 2025-06-08 13:14

Some reasonable points other than the touching the wheel part. Doesn’t the latest Model SX have cabin cameras? You wouldn’t need to touch the steering wheel and they do far more in terms of driving assistance than any other consumer vehicle. I do think the model S while old is a solid sporty design.

allofdarknessin1 2025-06-08 13:16

I was disappointed where the rumors for a hud in the model 3 turned out to be false until I got mine. I kinda forgot about it. Thinking about it today, that just seems useless to me because I use FSD a lot and pretty much the speed is the only thing I’d need to look at which is right there on the screen at all times while driving.

robabz 2025-06-08 13:17

Looks like an old Taurus

TechMonitorXO 2025-06-08 13:21

JoanG38 2025-06-08 13:28

Disappointing

[deleted] 2025-06-08 13:31

Honestly I’m not a fan of HUD it’s such gimmicky tech that just obstructs your view of the road. I always had it turned off in my X7 because I hated it always be on my line of sight.

SnooMarzipans870 2025-06-08 13:35

I read the comments first and was like “no way! Like a race car.” But you meant a Pontiac….. and you’re 100% correct. As a proud owner of a transmission surging, reverse loosing owner that is in fact a read of a Pontiac Grand Prix

azndkflush 2025-06-08 13:41

Same shit the past 10 years

azndkflush 2025-06-08 13:41

You can tweak the info, some people prefer it some dont.

hackers_d0zen 2025-06-08 13:48

An oligarch that has the best selling car on multiple continents (Model Y) does not have to listen to anyone.

WEZANGO 2025-06-08 13:50

There is nothing wrong with autopilots and protection systems. You never know how competent is the person flying/driving you, so it’s good that there are systems in place that protect from stupidity or incompetence.

_Jhop_ 2025-06-08 13:56

It’s the color. Saw one in person yesterday and the color gives ‘granny’ vibes

LebronBackinCLE 2025-06-08 13:59

And I knew we mean, same old thing - oh wait we got a spoiler which actually makes it look a little like that old sun, fire, or whatever that car was with that goofy little duck lid

titans661 2025-06-08 14:08

Cavalry blue Camry

citrixn00b 2025-06-08 14:16

Did Franz/Elon blew their whole load over the design of the cybertruck that they're incapable of coming up with new designs for other models?

Life_Connection420 2025-06-08 14:22

Let's hope this is just an AI joke

[deleted] 2025-06-08 14:24

Omg my thought exactly

[deleted] 2025-06-08 14:28

Man they sure are milking that decade old design dry

yrrkoon 2025-06-08 14:32

That's what I'm wondering. To my eye it just looks like someone bought the current S. Not to mention I can't imagine Tesla would be driving a refreshed S around before they've revealed it without the usual coverup stuff. EDIT: ok I guess I'm eating crow. It was indeed an updated S. Tesla just announced it today. What a letdown :(..

euhjustme 2025-06-08 14:35

"new"

Disneycanuck 2025-06-08 14:39

This must be a joke. The car looks almost exactly the same.

TheLemmonade 2025-06-08 14:40

Imagine dropping 70k on a car and THOSE are the wheels you get

Key_Rub4098 2025-06-08 14:46

It’s the “sealed” front grille … Has MS 2012 vibes …

RandoOn1411 2025-06-08 14:47

Damn that HUD is impressive!

Candid-Primary2891 2025-06-08 14:47

Are we sure this is new because it looks like a cheap body kit?

reefine 2025-06-08 15:05

It has the front bumper camera. It's new

gwestr 2025-06-08 15:06

Sir this is a 2013 Model S. It is identical.

reefine 2025-06-08 15:06

Yeah it could just be a training FSD car

Zina_1of 2025-06-08 15:07

And you forgot to take photo of the inside... Albeit there is not a single noticable change other than front bumper camera. It's sad to see Tesla takes other priorities instead their pride and joy Model S.

King0494 2025-06-08 15:22

I get S and X are low volume cars, but, this refresh is underwhelming

yrrkoon 2025-06-08 15:22

that just makes it the current S with a bumper camera. Not a refresh. No? The rest of the body looks normal and there's no way Tesla is driving an actually refreshed around before first revealing it.

jww19 2025-06-08 15:24

Those wheel covers are 🤮

Brothernod 2025-06-08 15:26

I thought GM’s Super Cruise was more advanced by a lot.

hutacars 2025-06-08 15:40

Does the map disappear unless a maneuver is imminent? In the iX I rented I couldn’t get it to stay up permanently.

allofdarknessin1 2025-06-08 15:43

How? I heard it’s good but it doesn’t have anything close to FSD.

sevargmas 2025-06-08 15:44

Ugly ass wheels.

KnightsSoccer82 2025-06-08 15:48

Except…they have been. The new plaid was spotted fully uncamo’d too. Same thing happened with the juniper and a highland. First time on this subreddit?

[deleted] 2025-06-08 15:55

Because those are range covers

Icy_Yam_2828 2025-06-08 15:57

Looks like a cheap Toyota …

LrBrunkrz 2025-06-08 16:00

What does the number plate say…does it have MFG or DLR written on the left side before the actual number? Usually if it’s a test vehicle MFG is written vertically

SongLeeYan 2025-06-08 16:01

I didn’t feel comfortable taking pics of the interior bc the employee was nearby getting stuff w his wife. Like another user mentioned, the most notable sign this is a refresh is the lower bumper camera

[deleted] 2025-06-08 16:05

[removed]

megabsod 2025-06-08 16:18

Who decided Denim was the best color for a sports car? Can you buy the distressed look with curb rash pre-installed from the factory?

Wrepete 2025-06-08 16:25

Lolol. I was going to say the same thing!

Embarrassed_Lawyer_5 2025-06-08 16:26

Zero chance this is a new S. Where are the manufacturer plates? This is a body kit for sure.

Embarrassed_Lawyer_5 2025-06-08 16:30

Also, look at the rear by the right taillight. Looks like a portion of wrap peeled inside the recessed license plate area. No manufacturer plates. Nothing on the dash to cover interior. Tesla isn’t this dumb to drive a refresh on the street prior to sharing publicly.

AgonizingFury 2025-06-08 16:36

I'm about 99% sure by what we can see of the plate that it's not a Tesla owned test vehicle. Look at all the other pictures of test vehicles out there that show the plate. The left side should be small letters "MFG" then the numbers "63277" then Random numbers and letters on the right. (Google search Tesla 63277 to see examples) This is just someone's custom project car.

enzo32ferrari 2025-06-08 16:39

It’s not getting a facelift?

Present-Ad-9598 2025-06-08 16:39

I don’t see a need for a HUD tbh, if you want one there’s plenty of third party companies that make accessories. Are you saying FSD isn’t true hands free lol

SongLeeYan 2025-06-08 16:58

I ran the regular plate through some basic plate lookups and it came back to a 2026 Model S

msb175 2025-06-08 17:05

Could be the “refresh” since all that is would be the front camera, paint, lightly modified rear diffuser, and those wheels.

hoppeeness 2025-06-08 17:06

Pretty sure all new model s have had front cameras. Only reason 3 doesn’t is because it has such a low front that it doesn’t need to hit that blind spot

shadrap 2025-06-08 17:09

I think it's just being awkward.

shadrap 2025-06-08 17:10

That is true, but also how they wound up with cyber truck.

hackers_d0zen 2025-06-08 17:12

I’m not defending it at all, just calling it as I see it. I’ve been a Tesla owner for 9 years and there is plenty I wish was different in my S and Y, however the price / performance / reliability / charging network is too good to give up for small things I wish would be better

shadrap 2025-06-08 17:20

I 100% agree with you. I'd kinda love to step away from Tesla, but right now, nothing comes close.

The killer feature in BMW’s is Apple Maps navigation prompts on the HUD. Once you get used to that it’s hard to go back.

TanMan166 2025-06-08 17:35

They put uglier wheels and crappy color options.

midnight_to_midnight 2025-06-08 17:43

src_main_java_wtf 2025-06-08 17:50

NilsTillander 2025-06-08 17:52

Every interior design decision since the original Model 3 clearly was made with the illusion that the car would drive itself: touch screen everything, no dashboard...

Naturebrah 2025-06-08 17:58

Why do those range covers scream honda*** whew I almost got arrested by the incorrectness police. Yes I know they can be removed, I’m commenting on these specific ones.

MeinWaffles 2025-06-08 18:02

I’m not a fan of teslas new wheels recently. I got used to the highland wheels but the juniper and new model s wheels just aren’t doing it for me

IndigoBroker 2025-06-08 18:08

Nice taillight alignment!

Bulky-Ad9761 2025-06-08 18:09

The wheels are hideous

PracticlySpeaking 2025-06-08 18:10

Tesla's design philosophy is that drivers are a problem to be solved, not the user to be served.

chungb25 2025-06-08 18:14

New 😂😂😂

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:18

Tesla would do that this car is basically the same thing as the current gen

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:19

Tesla has multiple manufacturer plates

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:22

It’s not

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:23

Doesn’t look like Tesla cares anymore about that

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:23

It’s 100% the refresh

gambling_addikt 2025-06-08 18:24

Yup I can see it as well

Torczyner 2025-06-08 18:32

>true hands free ADAS (no need to touch the steering wheels) I haven't had to interact with my yoke in like 4 years. If you're not going to be current on features I suggest doing some research. >It's been 13 years since the Model S came out, with most other OEMs it would have been *two* major redesigns. Model S received two redesigns in that span. Again being accurate is important here. I've had MS from all three generations with the current Paladium. It's wider than the previous generations, different front and rear, different inside and much, much faster.

OysterHound 2025-06-08 18:33

Nobody cares. Cool car that very few people will buy. The anchor is around the neck of Tesla. They should be making $25k car. That's the segment that will bring volume back to Tesla. Can anyone make a good EV for this price in America?

Torczyner 2025-06-08 18:34

Doesn't hold a candle to FSD. Nothing is close from any manufacturer. Only Waymo is comparable currently.

PM_ME_UR_DECOLLETAGE 2025-06-08 18:38

You can customize how much info you want displayed in the BMW HUD. This person has every option enabled it seems.

[deleted] 2025-06-08 18:39

Wrong. No front camera on any delivered S.

[deleted] 2025-06-08 18:41

That just happens to exactly mirror the other 2026 S mfg test vehicles that have been spotted with the identical front camera? And it happens to be in the new light blue that had been spotted multiple times and leaked by employees?

[deleted] 2025-06-08 18:43

Yup. It’s hilarious that people suggest that the current palladium wide body design introduced in 2021.5 is ‘thirteen years old’

snojerk321 2025-06-08 18:44

Those wheels are llllaaaammmmeeee

AgonizingFury 2025-06-08 18:46

True, I have seen some others, but all of them I have seen have had the small "MFG" on the left. I have never seen a Tesla owned vehicle that had normal registration plates (not saying it's not possible, just I've never seen it). Because they can't get dealer plates in Michigan, all of the demo vehicles at my local showroom use the 63277 plates as well.

Brothernod 2025-06-08 18:46

Isn’t Super Cruise confident enough to let you drive hands free in certain areas?

Slavichh 2025-06-08 18:48

The front bumper camera is a sign

Torczyner 2025-06-08 18:49

FSD drives hands free everywhere. Meanwhile they're hands free on mapped highways. Massive moat.

Brothernod 2025-06-08 18:49

Oh that’s cool, I thought Tesla FSD still legally required your hands to be on the wheels and your eyes on the road at all times.

cookingboy 2025-06-08 18:50

Most people don’t *need* $90k premium cars. But if you are selling one, features like that are important. Imagine telling someone buying a $100k Mercedes that they can buy an aftermarket heated seat cover. Also there are no 3rd party solutions for true HUD, since it needs to project through the windshield from below the dash.

Torczyner 2025-06-08 18:54

Not in the US for a long time. Time to spread correct information.

The S *has* gone through two major redesigns. The 2026 is not one of those. The suggestion that other manufacturers offer a superior ADAS is very amusing.

Brothernod 2025-06-08 18:56

Quote directly from Tesla’s website (what am I missing?) “Like other Autopilot features, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) requires a fully attentive driver and will display a series of escalating warnings requiring driver response. You must keep your hands on the steering wheel while Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is engaged. While Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is engaged, the cabin camera monitors driver attentiveness (see Driver Attentiveness).” https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-2CB60804-9CEA-4F4B-8B04-09B991368DC5.html

AgonizingFury 2025-06-08 18:57

Perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention. Have people gotten pictures of these without the camo on them already? Usually Tesla doesn't allow their test vehicles to be driven without camo until they officially announce them with their own photos (The cybertruck being the only exception I can think of, and really, there was no camouflaging that). If op hadn't scratched out the photos of the plate, it probably would answer the question, as it would be easy to look up the plate and see what vehicle it's registered to. Anything is possible, this just doesn't seem to fit the mold of other Tesla releases.

cookingboy 2025-06-08 18:58

> two redesigns Those are what industries call “face lifts”. The average consumers cannot tell a post-palladium car from a pre-palladium car. Hell even I can’t unless look at them side by side. Total redesigns are very important in the industry, especially for high end products like this. People want the latest and greatest when paying $80k for a car, and they want them to look that way. Hell, the Model 3 and Y redesign changed more on exterior than any of the S/X refreshes.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-06-08 19:08

I’ve never even heard of a car with a HUD until a few weeks ago, just doesn’t seem all that useful to block your vision with info.

LakeSun 2025-06-08 19:10

Yeah, what ever happened to the new "Electric Blue" for the 3/Y?

Torczyner 2025-06-08 19:25

The average consumer can't tell the difference between a C8 and a C8 ZR1 yet it still sells and costs 4x as much. The average consumer is dumb. Without the Plaid label on my MS, people wouldn't know. Picking exterior designs on average people isn't a great idea. I can easily tell the difference between all 3 MS designs. For example I can't tell easily the difference between all the Porsche Taycan models.

MightyOwl9 2025-06-08 19:50

papa4narchia 2025-06-08 19:59

Wow, that's heck of an ugly car

greyscales 2025-06-08 20:16

They are trying to change as few body panels as possible, that's what costs the most money.

wehooper4 2025-06-08 20:27

It's more advanced than base autopilot. It's very out of date compared to FSD.

cookingboy 2025-06-08 20:38

The ZR1 is an enthusiast car aimed for a niche market. The S/X is a mass market car aimed for the general consumers buying daily drivers. And the C8 is the biggest refresh Corvette has ever gotten in its entire product history, so your example is just bad lol. > I can easily tell Most people can’t, and that’s why the S/X sales are bad. > Porsche Taycan Exactly. Because there has only been *one* generation of Taycan, with one *facelift*. Because the Taycan isn’t, you know, 13 years old.

cookingboy 2025-06-08 20:40

It doesn’t block your vision at all. Like go drive one. It’s amazing. The HUD isn’t projected onto the windshield, it’s *through* it. And it takes up a small portion of your view right over the hood of the car. And how often do you shop $90k cars? The people who do want tech like HUD, surround view, etc. And thats why those people don’t want the Model S/X. Tesla being the only OEM not offering that doesn’t make them “smart”. They are behind in times and the customers are punishing them.

Torczyner 2025-06-08 21:08

She with the C7 Corvette. People can't tell the difference between base, grand sport, zo6 and ZR1. If you weren't clueless you'd realize Corvette sold way more than the model S. Oops!

ApprehensiveHair4508 2025-06-08 21:35

New taillights? The rear end looks like a sloppy blob....maybe its just the angle? Lack of rear diffuser? I dont know but I dont like it.

cookingboy 2025-06-08 21:39

Not being able to tell differences between different *trims* is entirely different from not being able to tell differences between entire generations of cars. I didn’t complain that you can’t tell a Plaid from a LR. That’s not the problem. The problem is Palladium looks the same to pre-Palladium. The C8 looks entirely different from the C7. How dense can you be to not understand that cars have *generational* design refreshes, and within the same generation the different trims have largely the same design. What the Model S lacks is *generational* design changes. And you call me clueless lmao. You are just in the “Tesla can do no wrong” mentality. I bet you cheered on the Model 3 and Y refresh.

Torczyner 2025-06-08 21:53

>I bet you cheered on the Model 3 and Y refresh. They're great refreshes. I think you just like to cry about things. Every review says those are great refreshes on great cars. General public struggled with c5 to c6 to C7 differences. Is that better?

cookingboy 2025-06-08 22:01

I literally said the Model 3/Y refreshes are good. Because they are *actual* redesigns, unlike the half-asses refresh Model S/X got. So for you, when Tesla does a redesign, it’s good. When they don’t do a redesign, it’s also good. Tesla is always perfect, yay! Oh except the Model S/X sales numbers. > general public struggled with C5 to C6 to C7 Nope they didn’t. Stop lying. When a new Corvette generation comes out people can easily tell the newest one from an older generation, and the sales numbers prove that.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-06-08 23:01

I test demo’d a 2025 Plaid literally two days to see if that’s something I would want (I do, currently own a 3), plus the Model S and X aren’t even the money makers, it’s the 3 and Y, Y got the heat pump first, as well as bumper camera (cybertruck too)

[deleted] 2025-06-08 23:34

wehooper4 2025-06-08 23:52

cookingboy 2025-06-08 23:56

Like I said, if all you are looking are Teslas, then sure, the only Tesla in that price range is the best car lmao. But if you actually do cross shop cars in that price range, you’d realize how sad the Model S/X is when compared to competitors like the Lucid Air, BMW iX, Rivian R1S, etc. For example the iX makes the Model X feels like a big Toyota RAV4 in terms of tech and luxury. > aren’t even the money makers Because they **don’t sell**!!!! The Model S/X has higher margin, just like all higher end products. Tesla would love to sell more of them but because of how bad they are, they can’t. And they are giving up on that lucrative segment because they know they cannot compete on luxury and tech.

Virtual-Valuable5091 2025-06-09 00:03

Agree accept there is the possibility hardware 5 could be included. The Cybercab is supposed to have AI5 and with the low sales volume of the S/X hardware availability shouldn't be a problem. The CyberCab and S/X could also be out at the same time. Late this year or early 2026. I give this a 50/50 chance but if Tesla wants to significantly increase S/X sales adding AI5 and the front camera would accomplish that without all the cost and effort to actually do a real refresh like everyone wants.

DrCalFun 2025-06-09 00:19

The fact some people are in denial about this being the updated Model and choosing to believe that it is someone who modded their car just tells you everything about how much has changed in this version

icy1007 2025-06-09 07:35

Material_Turnover591 2025-06-09 09:11

That HUD looks very distracting and could obscure the driver's view of the road directly in front of the car. I'd rather have information that's there when I *choose* to look at it, even if it does mean momentarily taking my eyes off the road.

cookingboy 2025-06-09 09:46

Lmao nobody who’s ever used it would call it obstructive or distracting. I only hear that from Tesla drivers who’ve not experienced other modern cars. It takes up only a small portion of the lower part of your windshield. There is a reason it’s one of the most popular features in modern high end cars, it’s amazing in practice and once you go HUD, it’s hard to switch back. There is a reason fighter jet pilots use it. It’s the opposite of “distracting and obstructive”. It *augments* what you see.

Material_Turnover591 2025-06-09 10:51

I was going by the photo with BMW's comically outdated map display. I've driven other cars and ones with HUD's. They're really not the solution they're cracked up to be. Tech nerds think HUD's are cool because they are really just wannabe fighter pilots.

Unusual_Aside5181 2025-06-09 12:36

Gonna be honest. I love the exterior design. I owned a 2015 model s and a 2018 now I love both. The 2015 was a titanium gold ish color and the 2018 is white. I still miss the color in my 2015.

jtrader77 2025-06-09 13:28

Isn't that just a new color and not a "refresh"?

the_chamber_echoes 2025-06-09 13:49

If Tesla wanted to meet users where they were, they wouldn’t have built EVs to begin. Clearly they’ve done pretty well by showing consumers what they ought to want.

AgonizingFury 2025-06-09 15:25

If I remember correctly, the Juniper was not "just being driven around" It was at a test site that was supposed to be secure and somebody captured it with an extreme telephoto lens. I wasn't paying that much attention around the Highland release.

cookingboy 2025-06-09 17:04

I’m telling you to not judge it by the photo, go drive a modern BMW. The high resolution and high frame rate animation makes everything sleek. And it has so many more features than navigation mode. And what I showed you is the *last* generation product. Not all HUDs are equal. New Porsche, BMW and Mercedes have the best HUD by far. You are just being the typical Tesla guy who dismisses all features Tesla doesn’t have until one day they add it, then it’s the best thing ever. Ive seen the same thing happen with interior lightning, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, etc.

shodashakshari 2025-06-09 18:10

In my honest opinion, the current Model S is one of the most beautiful sedans on the market today (putting aside that it's a Tesla, or an EV or anything; just purely my opinion on styling). I think it has clean lines, it is just aggressive enough without being over the top, and it will age well. I'm happy the refresh hasn't strayed away from the current aesthetics.

Washingtonballer2546 2025-06-09 18:28

Looks The same

zantosh 2025-06-09 18:35

Alright, there are a few things about this post that are misleading. First, the refreshed Model S with the center screen is a big upgrade from the prior generation, which I have. Also, with this upgrade, the FSD works without having to touch the steering wheel, so long as the camera can validate that you're paying attention. Third, HUD is more distracting than beneficial since the information it provides is not necessary on a constant basis. The 3D surround view is a nice to have in most cars but that's when the driver actually has to drive the car, which is significantly reduced in the Model S. The BMW ADAS works only on highways that are mapped, whereas the FSD-supervised works on any road. And yes, the rear of the Model S is the most dated, and they are all just facelifts, but as far as advancements, it's not as this user describes it, but quite a bit more.

oghowie 2025-06-09 18:46

Jesus, this needs a complete redesign already.

cookingboy 2025-06-09 18:55

> Third, HUD is more distracting than beneficial since the information it provides is not necessary on a constant basis. LMAO you went from facts to unfounded opinions in one sentence. Never have I in the years of owning cars with HUD that I felt "man, this is a distraction". Customers love it, go drive one. >when the driver actually has to drive the car, which is significantly reduced in the Model S. LOL ok. Every Tesla driver who've been in my car (including myself, who used to be a Tesla driver) loved the 3D feature and went "man I wish Tesla added this". >The BMW ADAS works only on highways that are mapped, whereas the FSD-supervised works on any road. BMW ADAS doesn't give a shit about mapped highways. FSD-supervised is a beta feature that costs close to $10k. I personally do not beta test safety critical features on public roads and I don't think anyone should, but to each of their own here I guess. >and they are all just facelifts, but as far as advancements, That's my entire point, regular people notice *exterior* designs, they aren't able to look at a Palladium car and just go "oh man see that new battery pack and new motors? cool I want one". That's why companies do redesigned every few years so people can tell when the new one has come out.

Martbern 2025-06-10 12:47

There is no way anyone would be driving a Model S refresh with no camouflage on. Also, a soft refresh like this will not sell at all. The model S design is already over 13 years old at this point.

_yourmom69 2025-06-10 14:57

Unpopular opinion, that (admittedly last gen) HUD doesn't do anything for me, and looks like the old designs we got from traditional legacy manufacturer thinking for many decades (up to a certain point/decade it was somewhat acceptable because they were technically not into software; new manufacturers, primarily leaders in the EV space, are tech-first). For example, I find the cruise icons and whatever the others are completely useless, even distracting. I have been driving 3s & Ys for 7+ years now so yes, I've gotten used to the central screen, but honestly it took at most a week to "adjust." I really, really don't think this is a thing. I had HUD on 3 Series BMWs and I primarily used it for "let's try to not get a ticket, or worse, go to jail" speed checks in my younger days. With the large and now-nicely stylized for maximum readability speed in the top-left corner of the large screen, it is extremely easy to see the speed.. you're not "taking your eyes of the road" or anything like that. I 100% don't want a tiny map in my field of view, it may seem like a good idea in theory, practice often make us discover a different reality if we're honest.

I had a Model 3, and now have the i4. The HUD is amazing in practice, you can even go through your playlist of music there. The Model 3 setup is fine, but even Tesla knows it’s not optimal, which is why the Model S has a driver dash screen. And before you start bashing “legacy manufacturer”, the best HUD are done by Chinese EV manufacturers. It’s a good thing they don’t sell cars in the U.S. The cabin features of those cars make Tesla look like Corollas from 2015s lol.

Humble-Emu-3020 2025-06-10 19:50

I'm more interested in what technology and interior upgrades they will be making. I now have a 2023 Model X but previously had a 2020 Model S. I'm hoping to return to an S since my wife just got a new Model Y Juniper.

_yourmom69 2025-06-10 21:09

> The Model 3 setup is fine, but even Tesla knows it’s not optimal, which is why the Model S has a driver dash screen. MS predated M3 so, maybe not? I say let the BYD sell here. I see it as a bad thing that they don’t sell cars here.

cookingboy 2025-06-10 21:43

> MS predated M3 so, maybe not? The Palladium update is post M3, and they didn't take it out. What the Model 3 did was a cost cutting feature, not a benefit. Ask any Model S customers, very few of them want to get rid of the driver screen. It would be a straight downgrade.

PerpetualCurious 2025-06-10 23:22

Offering a real spectrum of colors would be a nice “upgrade” to their current offerings.

Ok-Sir-6042 2025-06-11 00:00

I’m just pissed that they haven’t even remotely offered a front bumper camera retrofit for the 2024+ M3 Highland. Like WTF! Every car gets one but the M3?!

Otherwise_River_4432 2025-06-11 00:48

MoDa65 2025-06-11 01:11

Tesla think they can do apple style by calling slight tweaks a new version and charge same price. Come on. Hasn't changed since 20 years or whatever except slight updates. It has allowed the competition to catch up and brand loyalty ain't gonna save them. How can you expect old Tesla owners to upgrade to the latest one but it still looks like their old one with a few tweaks? How is that buying a new car. These aren't phones that cost $800-1000. If I'm paying $50-90K for a new car it better actually be new and not just a new bumper or screen

User has to be served now so that Tesla can build up capital for the ultimate goal of driverless. Each model funded the next. Users are a problem, that’s also true… they drink and drive so building a driverless car that will entice a user to buy one is the problem. I can’t believe what I’m hearing.
