FSD transfer is back

skotywa | 2025-04-26 17:45 | 195 views

To my knowledge, this is the first time since the Juniper Model Y started shipping that they're offering to transfer FSD from a Tesla you own and are trading in. I've been waiting for this. Time to upgrade my aging Model 3 (2018) to the far superior Model Y. Probably ordering next week.

Scam

Joatboy 2025-04-26 22:00

Not really, just desperation for sales

[deleted] 2025-04-26 22:08

Doesn't seem to be limited to any specific models. Details: [https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer](https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer)

goodguy743 2025-04-26 22:12

Saying something is only going to be offered one time, then to go on and offer it another 5 times, is definitely scam worthy.

shibiwan 2025-04-26 22:14

Now if only they'd allow me to transfer my SC01 from my 2014 MS85...

cheapdvds 2025-04-26 22:26

Is there confirmation from Tesla anywhere? I looked around didn't see the offer on Tesla.com, didn't receive any email...

Blankcarbon 2025-04-26 22:30

Sorry I don’t follow, doesn’t Juniper come with FSD?

bigscrambledegg 2025-04-26 22:36

It’s an optional extra on the [Tesla US](https://www.tesla.com/modely/design) order page from what I see.

0r10z 2025-04-26 22:39

I don’t need another tesla, already have 2 but if I get 0%, free SC, FSD I am buying!

Luxferrae 2025-04-26 22:40

Not transferring until they upgrade my MY from HW3 to HW4 😒

vvtim 2025-04-26 22:41

Only the Launch Edition did.

I don’t understand. Why would you care if youre transferring

Overtons_Window 2025-04-26 22:56

It's a great deal for Tesla as it's probably cheaper to transfer than paying to retrofit vehicles with insufficient hardware.

RustedVirtue 2025-04-26 23:01

That’s me too! Going from a 2018 3 to a 2026 Y. I ordered Friday when they announced this and amazingly they had my car configuration available and I pick it up Monday.

CandyFromABaby91 2025-04-26 23:08

lol same.

[deleted] 2025-04-26 23:08

To be honest,I’ll never buy it until I know I can transfer it to any new Tesla purchase. It should actually be able to be transferred to any Tesla like a license new or not on used purchases to tbh… Elon, imagine the surge in sales Tesla would get!

engwish 2025-04-26 23:09

This is what happens when there is actual competition for Tesla. Big win for those that have been looking to upgrade with FSD!

Torczyner 2025-04-26 23:30

Got my Plaid and non Juniper MY with FSD transfers.

Fun_Muscle9399 2025-04-26 23:33

You don’t have to trade it in either. You can keep your old car and still transfer to the new one if you want to keep both.

Chessh2036 2025-04-26 23:35

I just picked up my new Model Y today and my FSD came with me. I was pleasantly surprised lol

Grandpas_Spells 2025-04-26 23:46

I received the email offer. It's real.

bkcarp00 2025-04-26 23:49

I received an email from Tesla yesterday about it so it is verified.

cspankid 2025-04-26 23:58

Why purchase it when its just cheaper to do monthly and put the rest in a high yield savings account??

ZeroWashu 2025-04-27 00:37

It is the point of the thing. After a while you just stand your ground and make them own it. edit: I really want a RWD option to replace my 2018 RWD. I will be very disappointed if they treat it similar to the CT RWD.

trengilly 2025-04-27 00:44

But that is the whole point of the free transfer. You get HW4 (and a new better Tesla)

jinjuu 2025-04-27 00:47

Just with the added cost of having to buy a whole new car—crazy how well that works out for Tesla! They didn't have to spend the money to retrofit the car that you paid $7-15k on FSD for, AND you gave them an additional (insert profit margin here) on the new car!

trengilly 2025-04-27 00:53

I got my monies worth out of my 2019 M3 with FSD and made enough on Tesla stock to buy a small fleet of cars so it worked out crazy good for me also!

short_bus_genius 2025-04-27 01:10

Really? I had never heard this detail. But just cause sometimes I’m an idiot, the old car loses FSD, right?

Opposite-Knee-2798 2025-04-27 01:13

Yeah unless you are going to own it for many years monthly is better.

Fun_Muscle9399 2025-04-27 01:21

Correct. You transfer it from current car to the new one

ArtemisAthena_24 2025-04-27 01:48

Cuz some of us bought it when it was like 3k

archbish99 2025-04-27 01:51

Eh, "limited-time-only" "get it before it's gone" sales have been happening since the first caveman tried to sell a big rock. Puffery.

archbish99 2025-04-27 01:52

Now, if only I were willing to give Tesla more money in the current circumstances....

Luxferrae 2025-04-27 02:25

I'm keeping the current one? Can't a man have 2 Teslas at home?

You just need both vehicles on the same account to transfer (and meet other eligibility requirements).

a9uirre 2025-04-27 02:58

The S/X already have free charging

shibiwan 2025-04-27 03:00

My 2014 has SC01, but not on my 21 Plaid.

Luxferrae 2025-04-27 03:09

I've bought FSD outright. The concept is the vehicle will be upgraded as it advances to ensure that it can do full self drive.

trengilly 2025-04-27 03:29

I bought FSD outright also . . . but the purchase agreement was very specific. There was NO guarantee of eventual full self drive. That was presented as an aspirational goal and in no way assured. FSD was sold 'as is' and any future development was a bonus.

Luxferrae 2025-04-27 03:30

Musk himself talked about replacing HW3 to HW4. So it's very likely to happen... The only issue when he says things is the timeline... Might be 5 years from now, might be 50 years from now 🤣

[deleted] 2025-04-27 03:34

…and the terms note that you can never transfer FSD out from Juniper Launch Ed in the future.

[deleted] 2025-04-27 03:35

All new cars get one month FSD for free.

zoglog 2025-04-27 03:35

How about early performance model 3 owners lol. Let me transfer my unlimited supercharging and connectivity along with a discount and we can talk

JanewaysFolly 2025-04-27 03:37

Can someone explain how you opt for this on a new purchase? I don’t see anything on the ordering site that indicates the that I would like to do this.

Chessh2036 2025-04-27 03:48

I know, thankfully I got a notification and email confirming it transferred. Thank god lol

ankjaers11 2025-04-27 04:08

Or people switching brands

deanylev 2025-04-27 04:16

In Australia we have a RWD MY and it is not cut down at all other than 0-60/range, even has the premium speakers.

skotywa 2025-04-27 04:39

Never done it, but I found this... https://x.com/landpet2/status/1915906767160266905

Icy_Bee_2752 2025-04-27 05:06

I was told buy rep you dont have to trade in the car. You just have to be the owner at time of transfer, just fyi.

SamEdwards1959 2025-04-27 05:20

Let’s see, they ripped me off by promising something they never delivered in 6 years on my current car, so I’ll buy another from them because somehow now I should trust them? Hmmm. I would maybe do this if they fired Elon and found a straight shooter to run the place. Until then, I kinda think this is my last Tesla.

VideoGameJumanji 2025-04-27 06:46

Of course lmfao

importantshare 2025-04-27 07:02

How long would it take you to use $8k in supercharging and the annual fee for connectivity?

dts-five 2025-04-27 08:57

I bought a used 2018 Model 3 in December that had FSD. During the process the private seller let me know that he transferred it over to his new Model 3. I think it might be more convenient now, but I don’t think it was impossible before. He had to take both cars into a SC to do the transfer. It sucks for me because it’s HW2.5 and incompatible with the monthly FSD. I have to pay $8K to get FSD or upgrade hardware. Right now I’m leaning toward comma.ai instead.

varixial 2025-04-27 10:35

US only or worldwide ?

SarcasticNotes 2025-04-27 12:00

Shut really?

Zealousideal_Aside96 2025-04-27 12:13

That’s the complete opposite of what Musk has been conveying for the past 8 years

cspankid 2025-04-27 12:25

dollar cost averaging still says the monthly sub is better but its all you. Don't want to yuck your yum.

JerseyPete4 2025-04-27 13:30

Pretty sure it's only the model Y ?!?!?!

windydrew 2025-04-27 14:01

Notice that they added FSD supervised to the wording. So I think you'll lose the unsupervised FSD purchase.

windydrew 2025-04-27 14:10

Pretty sure they are removing the unsupervised form of FSD from all transfers. Notice the wording says supervised FSD. They're using it to get off the hook on upgrading as many HW3 cars as possible. I'm keeping mine until they fulfill the FSD, which is level 4 autonomy.

JanewaysFolly 2025-04-27 14:13

Thank you so much! I’ve searched online, posted this question on a few forums, and this is the first response! And helpful! Now to convince my wife😬

[deleted] 2025-04-27 14:28

[removed]

joebock 2025-04-27 14:33

They refer to it as FSD (unsupervised) for the current car too. I think that’s just what they are legally obligated to call it now, until it reaches a higher level of autonomy.

charlie_xmas 2025-04-27 14:33

Can Tesla stop beating around the bush and apply FSD (and other benefits) directly to accounts and not the cars themselves....

antryoo 2025-04-27 14:36

The (supervised) has been part of the description for a while now

windydrew 2025-04-27 14:38

My offer states this: Bring Your FSD (Supervised) With You It’s back—you can now transfer your Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to a new Tesla for a limited time.*

jnads 2025-04-27 16:15

Elon in December: "We'll never do FSD transfer again" Now: "We've automated FSD transfer" IIRC before it was a printed form you had to fill out and sign and then they transferred it manually. If they went through the trouble to spend expensive engineer man-hours to automate this (it probably cost $20k+ to build and test this feature... which is only 2 engineer-weeks), it's something they plan on bringing back.

cspankid 2025-04-27 17:34

I was being rhetorical.

skotywa 2025-04-27 18:33

That's a very principled stance you're taking and I respect you for it. Playing it out to the end (whenever that is) you leave Tesla with the following options: 1. Deliver on unsupervised FSD that works on HW3 (unlikely) 2. Deliver on unsupervised FSD that works on HW4 and retrofit your car with HW4 (potentially very expensive) 3. Refund you the price you paid (probably $5k-$6k) for FSD for failure to deliver all features (without interest) The #3 seems like the most likely option and for me it's just not worth the $6k to hold Tesla's feet to the fire on this. So I'm upgrading and taking advantage of the free transfer. Seems like a win-win to me. There are too many other things I love about Tesla (supercharger network, buying experience, new features regularly added post-purchase, to name a few reasons) for me to decide to die on this hill.

skotywa 2025-04-27 18:51

The FSD transfer offer appears to apply to all models.

JerseyPete4 2025-04-27 19:19

Thank you! I appreciate you

MercedesBez 2025-04-27 20:23

Can you transfer FSD to a lease and do a lease buyout? I don’t qualify for the tax credit and am looking to take advantage of FSD transfer and lease buyout. Any tips appreciated!

Comprehensive-Olive6 2025-04-27 20:56

I’m interested in this too. We don’t qualify for the 7500 tax incentive but understand that it’s built into leasing.

[deleted] 2025-04-27 21:13

[deleted]

[deleted] 2025-04-27 21:48

Same here! The moment it went up, I ordered. Super excited. Grats!

snark42 2025-04-27 22:10

I'm sure they'll offer it more so they can avoid retrofitting HW3 cars now that it's obviously they can't do FSD with HW3. Too many class action lawsuits over it already, the probably expect to lose them.

RSGT7 2025-04-27 22:19

I bought a used model 3 with fsd on it 2 years ago. Will tesla allow me to also transfer the fsd off this vehicle to a new car?

hexagonxyz 2025-04-27 23:14

How much does it lower the trade in value if you remove FSD from your trade in vehicle? From Tesla website: If you are trading in your vehicle, the trade-in vehicle will be valued as though it has basic Autopilot only, as FSD (Supervised) will be removed and transferred to the new vehicle.

windydrew 2025-04-28 01:47

Well, I can't afford a MX P100D Plaid new so I'll be dieing on this hill.

nopeynopenooope 2025-04-28 02:25

How much are you getting for your 2018 M3? Half the reason I didn't trade up is because they're practically worthless now and I might as well just keep it for another 100k miles

dellfanboy 2025-04-28 06:42

Nope. Can’t transfer to a lease. It’s in the details of the email

moronmonday526 2025-04-28 10:41

First half is done. Now, they just need to double their trade in offer to put me in a HW4 car. Designing a whole new HW4 computer that fits in the HW3 space and uses the HW3 cooling system is ridiculous.

cspankid 2025-04-28 12:09

So consumers who purchased a vehicle or FSD prior to 2018?

6spdvtec 2025-04-28 12:24

I have the option to buy FSD on my 2018 Model 3 for $2000, which includes the hardware upgrade (I currently have the 2.5 computer). How far along has FSD come? Are there any real advantages over EAP other than traffic light and stop sign recognition?

skotywa 2025-04-28 14:58

I can't afford that either. But, with the trade in value of my Model 3, I'm hoping to pay under $25k, out the door, for a new Model Y.

Butcher_Of_Hope 2025-04-28 17:07

It’s not amazingly. They sold so many fewer cars and didn’t augment the build plan. It’s literally sitting inventory.

Salty_Leather42 2025-04-28 17:24

Hopefully FUS transfer is next !

skotywa 2025-04-28 21:04

Sorry if I'm being dumb... What is FUS?

ChunkyThePotato 2025-04-28 21:24

Because it currently requires supervision...

biffa773 2025-04-28 22:03

Yes, you only have to be the owner at the time of the transfer

biffa773 2025-04-28 22:10

Free Use Supercharging SC01

BigbigTimemachine 2025-04-29 02:04

The offer is also in the tesla app text messages.

Codeman007 2025-04-29 14:17

So fyi, this is false. Just transferred to a leased Cybertruck.

cadium 2025-04-29 17:20

Same here.

cadium 2025-04-29 17:20

Wait until HW5 comes out.

Luxferrae 2025-04-29 18:14

Counting on it. But I would be satisfied with just HW4 upgrade on my Y

DigressiveUser 2025-04-29 20:38

How many Windows licences have you bought so far in life?

DigressiveUser 2025-04-29 20:40

Was it advertised as a future fully autonomous feature?

DigressiveUser 2025-04-29 20:42

They'll probably own it as a car upgrade itself rather than hardware for the few remaining cases of stubborn people that want them to find a costly technical solution.

DigressiveUser 2025-04-29 20:43

What company is doing a better job of trying to improve and show transparency of its supply chain, working conditions and lower its impact on climate?

DigressiveUser 2025-04-29 20:45

They'll deliver sooner or later. If you want to change car, you have the opportunity to have it delivered to you sooner for free. This is an opportunity presented, a win-win situation. You don't want it, refuse by doing nothing.

Comprehensive-Olive6 2025-04-29 22:01

Yes! This is possible and what I plan to do

elchurnerista 2025-04-30 04:28

negative

djrbx 2025-05-01 03:50

Can I also transfer unlimited connectivity? Until I can transfer both, I'd rather get another brand or at least till Musk is no longer associated with Tesla in any capacity.

nunchuckcrimes 2025-05-02 12:01

I don't like the Y redesign so I'll be holding onto my 2021 for HW4 or better. No way I'm getting another Tesla while Elon is at the helm.

Eastern-Committee798 2025-05-03 14:55

Can we "draft" like Nascar with other say 5 or even 10 teslas rolling in one lane like a woolly watt worm in FSD by lowering the drag coefficient it increasing range?

[deleted] 2025-05-04 16:17

Imagine paying for a windows license lmao

spindrift_20 2025-05-05 00:25

It’s just bundled with the computer which means you still paid for it. Microsoft isn’t just giving it away to PC manufacturers.

[deleted] 2025-05-05 00:25

Lmao no, no I didn't

silverpaw54 2025-05-05 14:07

I have EAP. It's $2000 to go to FSD. Anyone upgrade their FSD then transfer their FSD to a new purchase?

yrrkoon 2025-05-06 19:59

The US website has free supercharging for model S's right now. Combined with the FSD xfer, that's pretty appealing. Although personally I would hold out for HW5 at this point since it was estimated to debut late this year.

VideoGameJumanji 2025-05-07 18:18

Brother those aren’t two different things they are just not labelled consistently

VideoGameJumanji 2025-05-07 18:19

You are getting lost in semantics and don’t understand that FSD is a single product, there are not different versions you can buy into. FSD is currently supervised, there is no unsupervised FSD available to users right now lmao

Fun_Muscle9399 2025-05-18 20:41

I’m soooo close to hitting the order button on a MSP, but my less impulsive side is screaming at me to wait for the refresh and HW5.

Fun_Muscle9399 2025-05-18 20:47

I have FSD on my 2018 Model 3 and it’s pretty damn good tbh. You still need to pay attention, but it does the bulk of my driving. I did just over 22k miles last year.

yrrkoon 2025-05-18 21:33

ya at this point I'd wait for sure personally. The rumor seems to be by EoY for both HW5 and refresh.. we'll see. I'm real curious what they do to the front and back.

Turbulent_Tuna 2025-05-25 22:59

Excellent!

Maxheadroom206 2025-05-27 00:18

I plan to add a new car instead of replacing. I have EAP on my 2018 M3. I can pay $2k to upgrade to HW3 and FSD. If I transfer to FSD to a new purchase, what features remain on my 2018 M3? They changed the tiers a lot since I bought EAP and would like to keep adaptive cruise control and lane assist at a minimum.

[deleted] 2025-05-27 13:43

I'm surprised the previous owner never had the HW upgraded. it should have been a free upgrade for him

dts-five 2025-05-27 18:29

Yea. I don't know why he never did the upgrade.

Efficient_Bar_1044 2025-05-29 04:48

would hw3 become obsolete? i am looking at a 2023 hw3 with fsd.

Far_Treacle710 2025-08-23 03:38

Did the FSD transfer really work to a leased vehicle? How did you do this?

cac2573 2025-08-30 15:32

I wonder, how’s does it show up on the new vehicle invoice — ideally not at all so you don’t pay registration taxes/fees on it

cac2573 2025-08-30 15:34

Dunno if you ended up doing this, but you have to trade in your car with Tesla to get it? If so, that’s a major string attached

skotywa 2025-09-03 03:59

No, you do not have to trade your car in. If you do not trade your car in, you must still own your car at the time of taking delivery of the new car it's being transferred to. At least that's how I understand it.
