That battery was very nicely looked after. I'd call that a steal.

Quirkycanadian 2026-03-11 19:16

Unlimited free supercharging included? If so decent deal

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-11 19:16

No free supercharging but the premium connectivity is included

Happy-Childhood5990 2026-03-11 19:23

There are quite a few people reporting on the maintenance costs of older Model S vehicles. It might be worth factoring that into your decision.

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-11 19:24

What type of maintenance?

ArticusFarticus 2026-03-11 19:46

How is it an 85 2013 without free supercharging? Are you sure?

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-11 19:53

Thats what owner said

It depends on a lot of factors. It could be a fine deal if the laundry list of issues these cars had were taken care of. Or, it could be a poor deal if they weren't and you're sitting on a ticking time bomb of looming problems. Ask for info on: * Battery age if not original * Drive unit age if not original * Door handle replacements done and if any are original * MCU age if not original * Air suspension repairs made and when IIRC - They used to also recommend annual AC desiccant bag swaps and periodic battery coolant flushes for these older MS's. Might be worth asking about those too.

I mean I wouldn’t. Any 13 year old car is likely at or nearing the end of its lifespan.

bjb8 2026-03-11 20:40

I would want to see the service records. If that car is original and hasn't had a new battery or motor in it you have to be careful, those early S can be finicky beasts, since they are basically generation 1 mainstream Tesla EV. First of all has the MCU been replaced or is this MCU 1. If it is MCU 1 look at the screens carefully because they often "leak". They still work but it is messy. Also for some reason insurance companies will hit you hard if it is MCU 1 (lack of safety features), so get an insurance quote based on VIN before you buy. Especially if you want collision. Also if it is MCU 1 it will need to have had the cell modem upgraded to LTE, they came with 3G only and that is retiring real soon now, so it will lose connectivity. Second, the door handles and window regulators will fail at this age, it is just a matter of time, so find out about if they have been replaced. They aren't too expensive to fix. Third the contactor/e-fuse will need to be replaced if it hasn't already. Considering the kms it probably has. On the old S it requires a battery drop so is a bit more costly if it hasn't already been done. As part of this the design of the AC system causes it to drip water on the battery unless a TSB is applied. This will rust the access panel for the contactor/e-fuse. If it gets too rusty then water will enter the battery and this is not good. They will probably replace this panel when the e-fuse is replaced. Fourth is the cooling system. The valves are plastic and may spring a leak at the connection points. These are reasonably cheap to replace. Obviously you will have the regular car things, like suspension and tires that may need some work. I would also be surprised if the air suspension doesn't have a slow leak if it hasn't been serviced. I have this experience because my son bought a 2013 Model S RWD 85 with low mileage (60k). He was lucky to get a really good deal on it because it has needed some work.

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-11 20:48

Mcu has been replaced. The other thingsni ll check. I appreciate the detailed info.

bjb8 2026-03-11 20:53

Some people took the Tesla offer to transfer it to a new car.

ArticusFarticus 2026-03-11 21:19

Yes that is the one reason why this wouldn’t.

digitalglu 2026-03-11 21:23

Not really

leitz68 2026-03-11 21:26

Free supercharging ! But way to expensive

Zebra4776 2026-03-11 21:58

Up at the top there's a search bar. Try that.

Tart-Flashy 2026-03-11 23:15

That thing has ancient computers and would run so slowly and charge slow at superchargers. Don’t do it

TeslaCrna 2026-03-11 23:24

You’re gonna get a lot of people on here saying don’t buy an old Tesla. Bottom line is this: if battery life is still good and no major issues, then you should be fine. It’s an EV for crying out loud. You’ll have to charge it more than a newer one, but that’s expected.

NorthSpecialist6064 2026-03-11 23:58

Unhelpful response. Go away.

Zebra4776 2026-03-12 00:22

You know how to use alt accounts but not how to search. Interesting.

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-12 00:27

I test drove it. Runs fine. Air sunspension was excellent. No bearing noise.

AnOoglyBoogly 2026-03-12 00:43

That battery % has held up pretty well over its time. Wonder if it’s been replaced.

SortSwimming5449 2026-03-12 01:40

Aside from what would normally be expected on a 13 year old car… These earlier models were known to have suspension issues, failing door handles, unusual drive unit failures, the screens “melting”, etc… Older high mileage cars cost more to keep up with, that’s a fact. But I don’t think this one specifically is going to be anymore problematic. As long as you understand what you’re getting yourself into, I think it still has a long life ahead of it. To answer your question… the battery is in fantastic shape for its age.

VegarHenriksen 2026-03-12 03:19

No

EmotionAdmirable9383 2026-03-12 03:55

He has changed the melting screen. He has changed the water drip pipe. Replaired Handles that were problematic. Some other little things. He also said he has never changed at superchargers, always at home. I drive the car. Suspension works like a charm. No bearing noise. No delay in power. Etc. But still wanted to get an opinion as i am goinf for a used ev as my first ev.

SortSwimming5449 2026-03-12 03:59

Like I said, I think it could be a fantastic vehicle. You just have to keep in mind that it is an old car with a lot of miles on it. You’re going to have put money into it to keep it running. Fortunately though, it will still save you a lot of $$$ over an ICE car. As there’s a lot less moving parts, meaning there is less that can go wrong with it. If you’re buying it because you can’t afford something newer with less mileage… I would seriously reconsider. But if you’re buying it because you like it and you don’t mind having to put some money into it…. Then go for it.

Sssonofagun 2026-03-12 04:46

New to tesla how do I view this

Tradetheday2093 2026-03-12 09:23

I wonder how much battery replacement is.

Master-Journalist888 2026-03-12 15:36
