Need guidance: Purchased used 2024 Tesla Model S out of state (CA → WA)
Crossposted from TeslaModel S I was working with 3 different dealers for a **2024 Tesla Model S**, and only one finally came through after a lot of convincing about doing an out-of-state deal. I’m in **Washington State**, and the car is coming from a **California dealer**. I’ve signed the contract and the vehicle will be shipped to WA. So far I’ve signed the following documents: * Due Bill * Front License Plate Acknowledgement * Pre-Contract Disclosure (Retail Installment Sale Contract) * 553-CA-ARB-eps 3/23 * Translated Contract Acknowledgment A few questions for anyone who has done **CA → WA out-of-state purchases**: 1. **Sales tax + registration in WA:** What’s the process if the dealer is not handling WA registration? What documents do I need from the dealer to register the car and pay sales tax in WA? 2. **Tesla app ownership transfer:** when I try adding the VIN in the app it says **“Invalid VIN.”** How do I initiate the ownership transfer with Tesla in this situation? 3. **Traveling notary paperwork:** The finance manager mentioned there’s another document I’ll need to sign with a traveling notary before the transporter releases the vehicle. Anyone know what document this typically is? Basically trying to understand the **timeline** for: * Paying WA sales tax + registering the car * Getting the car into my Tesla account/app Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s gone through a similar **out-of-state Tesla purchase**.
