A couple of cool Tesla things I found out today

chessasaur | 2026-03-05 01:41 | 251 views

1. Did you know that if you check your Tesla app while your wife is out getting her hair done and shopping, you can see where the car is and (as was this case) if the car is moving, what its destination is, how far away it is from there, and even what music is playing? Maybe a bit stalkery but used in the correct circumstances kinda cool. Oh, and the car looks like it's "moving" in the app. 2. If you engage FSD Self Drive without a destination you can "control" where it drives. I had decided to run up to the post office and instead of putting in the destination, I just started Self Driving and controlled where it went with turn signals. I did have to turn into the driveway of the PO myself, but other than that it did the driving with me telling it where to go (or not go if it wanted to turn for some reason).

Direct response to your #1 - did you know that with FSD, you can send a location from your phone to reroute your wife's car elsewhere? My wife routes my car to pick up boba sometimes and it happens without me even realizing the route changed since I'm not looking at the screen. Obviously you also can control the temperature and music too.

SocratesDouglas 2026-03-05 02:06

Lmao i love stalking my SO and just telling my 2 ton iPad on wheels to drive wherever it wants and hoping for the best because I'm too lazy to use my hands and foot. Elon you've truly revolutionized the car industry

regmeyster 2026-03-05 02:09

So are you like, what the hell am I doing here???

regmeyster 2026-03-05 02:10

He truly has and its so annoying that some people are just blind to it. People need to realize the future already.

Sfkn123 2026-03-05 02:16

The very first time I posted in the sub about how my car changed routing in it's own, people joked about my wife's boyfriend having access to my wife's car, so this really only tricked me once!

Flightwise 2026-03-05 02:17

This allows my partner to know when I leave home and prepare for my arrival. And when I’m being a good boy visiting the gym. And when I’m driving back from the airport.

chessasaur 2026-03-05 02:19

Should have added: HW4 with [14.2.2.4](http://14.2.2.4)

mother_fkn_crackk 2026-03-05 02:41

1.. yes gave my untrusting jealous boyfriend access just for this reason.

LencoTB 2026-03-05 02:45

Show us how to do this in the app

whiskeyntechno 2026-03-05 03:05

I do this to my husband and he ignores it and keeps driving home.

Empty-Vegetable3494 2026-03-05 03:05

Who hurt you bro

glm409 2026-03-05 03:05

Regarding #1. Yes. I was traveling for business, and my son called to see if my wife and he could take the Tesla to go out to eat. I monitored where they were going and watched them park, and once they closed the doors, I had the car flash the lights and honk the horn. I see the doors open and close again, and I redid the honk and flashing. Did that about three more times before my son caught on and called me to let me know they were on to me.

jtmonkey 2026-03-05 03:07

This makes it great for me as a parent when my kids borrow my car to drive. Mostly I use it to see if he’s close to Taco Bell and can grab me some on the way home so my wife doesn’t yell at me. “What it was a nice thing he did I don’t want to ruin his generous actions!”

SoggyAlbatross2 2026-03-05 03:09

I used to track my wife on life360 when she got back from a trip and do fun things with her Tesla when she was about 10 feet away from the car. A farting car, very mature.

SocratesDouglas 2026-03-05 03:11

Your mother

LoogyHead 2026-03-05 03:18

I mean, their mom is a bit spicy with that whip, but you could use the safe word if you didn’t want to get pegged.

dantodd 2026-03-05 03:21

Just open the app and the vehicle status shows everything. You can send a destination by going to the location tab and then selecting the routing store on top, it will send you out to your map app on the phone. Pick the destination and send it to the car.

dantodd 2026-03-05 03:24

Your wife needs permission to eat when you're traveling?

savedatheist 2026-03-05 03:53

The Tesla team has done this, not Elon. He’s focused on FSD, Optimus, and Starship.

SkiahMutt 2026-03-05 03:55

My partner turns on my heated seat to get my attention if I'm not replying while I'm out and about.

glm409 2026-03-05 03:59

No. My son was using that as an excuse to drive my car, which he rarely gets to do. They also each have their own cars.

IPThereforeIAm 2026-03-05 04:21

Maybe you can fix him…

rsg1234 2026-03-05 04:25

Yes I know this. The wife checked my location at the precise moment I was doing some “spirited driving” with another car and caught me doing 100mph. That was months ago and I haven’t heard the end.

OneGear987 2026-03-05 04:54

Yep, this is a problem that requires a different solution.

Induane 2026-03-05 05:01

Pretty sure it was PlatoFrederick.

djmere 2026-03-05 05:05

My wife used to change the volume or the song while I was driving to work. I had to remove that function. It was ruining my happy times before depressing work times

lnxgod 2026-03-05 05:11

you can control it when you drive with a desitnation set as well by using blinkers

fastoid 2026-03-05 05:13

Yeah, the #1 works great with parental controls for kids driving. It chimes at them when they are within 3 mph from the set speed limit, and they are limited to the chill driving profile.

onfire4g05 2026-03-05 05:24

I set up a Home Assistant automation to notify my wife when my car routes home and I'm over 30 mins away. You can send the fart sound to the car too. Found that out accidentally one day. 😃

Ok_Individual4716 2026-03-05 05:26

You forgot the most important command, the fart. Just spam click the fart button as soon as they get close to the car for the best prank. Everybody will look at them like they’re crazy lol

Ok_Individual4716 2026-03-05 05:30

With #1, you can still do all of that on the app while you are in the car. I don’t recommend it since you shouldn’t be on your phone while driving but it’s something to know in case your display screen doesn’t work for some reason, you can still access your climate and music

clancycoop 2026-03-05 05:35

Sometimes when my wife is driving around the location stops working and it says the car is at TJ Maxx for two hours. ;)

ianarcherw 2026-03-05 05:36

Sounds fun! How do we do that?

ianarcherw 2026-03-05 05:39

Or you are talking about adding a stop?

lulujunkie 2026-03-05 05:48

OMG some of these replies is helping me bake up some silly things I am so gonna do to my wife in her Tesla lol.

toybuilder 2026-03-05 07:15

Apparently save some guy's dad when he became incapacitated. The guy had app access and rerouted his dad to a hospital.

No_Chipmunk_8065 2026-03-05 08:35

Once beaten twice shy

Rasterion 2026-03-05 08:49

Did you know that you can hide the location of the car for other drivers in the app?

obviousThrowAcc12 2026-03-05 09:02

1# there will be an icon on the teslas screen when you track location via your app

ShojkaRapko 2026-03-05 09:02

Any way to disable #1 and not get stalked while driving the car?

Drovich74 2026-03-05 09:29

Comment vous faites ça sur l’application ? Je ne vois que le klaxon et les phares dans les contrôles…

Ok_Individual4716 2026-03-05 09:36

It is in the quick controls on the main screen of the app. If you don’t have it there already, press and hold on any of the icons until the controls menu pops up. Then press and hold on the fart icon or any other control you’d like and then drop it in your quick controls list to make it easier to activate. Then press it to activate it https://preview.redd.it/zdnvzqvp47ng1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1ecc195d0e398f09539552f26af0443a83a620b

Schnitzhole 2026-03-05 09:53

Theres a little icon that shows up on the screen when someone is looking at your location in the app. You can turn it off if you are account owner but it has to happen for all Devices i believe

Schnitzhole 2026-03-05 09:58

# 1 you can see when someone is watching you while driving and it can be disabled https://preview.redd.it/bsdgsf1r87ng1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdb91cfb1e080849bcd800c65bc425fae62ca566 # 2. It’s nice but doesn’t work unless you signal very early and it will still sometimes ignore my turn i want. I wish normal FSD let you pick different routes too with signal(it seems to sometimes make a different turn but only if it’s very obviously going the same place still and not too much of a detour).

Fullerbadge000 2026-03-05 10:37

Turn off the ability for others to stalk or turn off your notice of it in the car?

Drovich74 2026-03-05 11:10

Génial, merci ! J’arrive à mettre que 4 raccourcis, je vois que tu en as 5 ?

PremiumUsername69420 2026-03-05 11:13

I just had a stroke reading this.

ObeseSnake 2026-03-05 11:50

And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?" Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Accurate-Chest3662 2026-03-05 12:03

I was happy being single until I read this. Now I need somebody so I can do this to them.

pinchy74 2026-03-05 12:21

There’s lots of room for shovels, garbage bags, and plastic sheeting. The GPS can also drive you to abandoned mines, and other appropriate locations. /s

matt827474 2026-03-05 12:26

With #2 for me it always decides to randomly turn like it’s heading back home.

ajn63 2026-03-05 12:40

Uses FSD to divorce court

voidlol 2026-03-05 13:21

The owner of the Tesla can disable it from the mobile application for other authorized users. This means that the owner can view where the car is, but the other users cannot. This can be configured individually for every user. To find the setting: - Scroll down to the bottom in your Tesla application - Choose the bottom-right option "Manage drivers", or whatever it is in your language - The option "Limit location sharing" can be found on this page for each user

syman67 2026-03-05 13:41

Many a day goes by…

markisbond 2026-03-05 13:57

If you dragging a new action and hold it over the bar it’ll let you have five!

baconuggets 2026-03-05 14:16

I sent my wife and sister, who were on their way to go blueberry picking, to a truck stop strip club once without them noticing until they had arrived. The best/worst part is that the car then didn't have enough charge to get them to the blueberry place in time, so no blueberries that day. I died laughing.

Fearnlove 2026-03-05 14:18

The fart noise would be so much better for this, and you can trigger it remotely 😆

Sfkn123 2026-03-05 14:20

On your phone, open up Google maps or Apple map, search for location, then hit share and select the Tesla app FYI you can also share YouTube videos to the car

Drovich74 2026-03-05 14:23

Merci. Ca marche pas, je maintiens l’icône au dessus de la barre quelques secondes puis je lâche et ça remplace juste l’icône du dessous…

markisbond 2026-03-05 14:40

Hold it to the side in the white space not over an icon

Drovich74 2026-03-05 14:58

Ça marche pas. J’ai pas d’espace blanc, tout est noir. Sur le coté ou au dessus, et de quoi ?

hedonistatheist_2 2026-03-05 15:04

yeah ad1.... I have location disabled for my wifes Tesla account so she cant track my car :p

ianarcherw 2026-03-05 15:07

I will try, thank u

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:16

Kids: "when is Mom going to get home" Me: (checks app) "she just came across the bridge and will be home in 4 minutes." This is a several time per week occurrence in our house that previously involved a phone call and possibly disturbing my wife as she was trying to finish something up in the lab. It's a fantastic feature for staying coordinated and knowing when to expect people home. Also very helpful for meeting up somewhere since you can just head for each other's dots. A few things I wish they'd do though. 1) Display location of other Teslas you have access to on your map in car. 2) allow sharing location with Tesla accounts that aren't drivers (parents have a Tesla and like to be able to see how the trip is going when we drive down to visit and we'd like to be able to see how their trip is going when they come up to visit.) 3) Navigate to Tesla (automate the process of meeting up by figuring out a point in the middle and have both teslas navigate to a meeting point automatically. 4) Caravan mode (link two Teslas to travel together on FSD so that they'll avoid getting separated and follow the and route.) Bonus points if they make the follow car level 3 and have the cars periodically switch off so that drivers can take a break from supervising.

hawkaluga 2026-03-05 15:16

Even better is you can change what she’s listening to. Or change climate or turn seat heaters on…all these things can be done in a thoughtful way but also in an annoying way. Pick your battles.

IntrovertedGenXDude 2026-03-05 15:17

You have to hold it over on either of the very very edge to add the 5th one.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:20

Have totally done this to each other if a kid runs us out of milk and send the other to the store for more on the way home. Or picking up dinner on the way.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:24

In a more practical use, my wife's phone died at work one day and she called me from her work phone. I watched on sentry cams for her to get to the car, remotely unlocked the car and then started it for her so she could get home without waiting for her phone to charge. (She also didn't have her card with her for some reason I can't recall.)

ALaker4life 2026-03-05 15:25

My wife checks on me all the time.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:27

Weird, my wife's always stops working at my best friend's house for 2 hours.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:28

This works much better with a trusting partner where it's just convenient to be able to check where the other is when relevant.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:29

Turns off the sharing. There's no way to disable the notification in car that the app is accessing it. It's supposed to be a convenience feature not a stalking feature.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:31

In this case it doesn't matter. Both features have been around since v11 (when I got my first Tesla) or earlier.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:34

Yes, because being able to answer kids' incessant questions about when Mom will be home without having to bother her is so stalkery. It's a tremendously helpful feature in a trusting relationship to practically be able to check when the other is arriving or see if they stopped to grab milk (or had to work late).

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:35

Wait till she finds out about Tessie... I can tell you the speed, location, temperature, battery state, etc every 30 seconds of driving for the entire time I've owned both of my Teslas.

rsg1234 2026-03-05 15:36

Shhh!

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:36

Tessie or similar data logger is even better. Can go back and show the detailed review.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:38

Or say your wife is in the passenger seat and looking for a dinner place on her phone. We've regularly sent from a passenger's phone rather than searching on the screen.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:39

This is the other reason to make sure your spouse also has a Tesla. They know turnabout is fair play.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 15:42

My wife drives a MYP and I upgraded to FSD 14 on her car because she was donating about $100 a month to the local speed cam company, so I don't have to worry much about taking flak for speed.

NurseDave8 2026-03-05 15:43

Yes, I would love it to show multiple routes like google maps. It could default to the quickest, but give you options for more scenic, avoid highways, etc.

livingPOP 2026-03-05 15:51

Oh My! I can reroute to Taco Bell!!!

Tony_Cam87 2026-03-05 15:57

So, your wife's boyfriend stopped messing around with changing the routes? 🤔 Hahahaha JK 😜

tenpir 2026-03-05 15:59

That icon also shows up with teslafi and teslamate, etc. So it doesn't always mean a "person" is watching.

mtbwrecker84 2026-03-05 16:08

Point #1. You can also use the app to make the car start playing fart noises when your wife is driving with her friend to a restaurant. Although funny, I paid for that one.

SoggyAlbatross2 2026-03-05 16:09

I sat next to a guy on the airport bus talking his wife through the exact same thing - it's a pretty awesome feature.

Nasarescue 2026-03-05 16:14

Just remember if she has the app too she can see where you are!😳

paininthejbruh 2026-03-05 16:20

This is how I stay connected with my kids when I am travelling for business.

Ultracrepidarian- 2026-03-05 16:22

When I turn in FSD without a destination it tries to make every turn possible on its own. Turn signal and all. So annoying

Euphoric_Attitude530 2026-03-05 16:22

As to #1, you can also turn on the seat heaters to high/off, change the climate hot/cold and change the music playing! It’s fun messing with my wife while she driving

eatmorbacon 2026-03-05 16:52

Best response.

eatmorbacon 2026-03-05 16:56

Yours doesn't? Geeze.

Worth-Reputation3450 2026-03-05 17:19

You can also set a new destination!

aajax6 2026-03-05 17:44

Can i use the turn signal button to cancel FSD making a wrong right turn? Which direction?

StormTrpr66 2026-03-05 17:53

How do you disable it?

StormTrpr66 2026-03-05 17:54

Same. Pissed her off to no end but I have as many data sharing things as possible disabled, not just in my car but everywhere.

jaywham 2026-03-05 18:25

There should be an option in Privacy about Location Sharing. You can turn off the "Allow Mobile Access" setting

StormTrpr66 2026-03-05 18:28

I see the location sharing but not the other stuff. Is all the other stuff linked to location sharing?

Simple_Ad_3876 2026-03-05 18:42

You must be new.

matthew19 2026-03-05 19:12

This feature was used not long ago for a son to send his dad to the emergency room as he had a heart attack while driving the Tesla.

videoguy75 2026-03-05 19:14

I’m on 14.2.2.5. I always get two choices, but mostly three.

Full-Rub6292 2026-03-05 19:26

I agree with your point #2 and #4. Waze has a great trip sharing feature that allows you to show others your trip, progress, estimated arrival, etc. It would be great for Tesla to add it, then it would be one less competitor app people need to use. To add to your #4, I’ve always wished they’d add a “Follow mode” to FSD. Many times me and the wife (in her Subaru) are coming home from a event we drove separately to, and I wish I could just “follow” her instead of manually driving or using FSD and having to disable every time it decides to want to pass her. Yes I know I could probably try to remember to kick it into basic cruise control (do I still have EAP 🤔 I haven’t tried changing it since I upgraded to FSD) before I leave, or cancel the lane change (it’s always fast to try to lane change so I’m reacting after it’s already moving. Plus the constant blinker on and off has to annoy other drivers and make me look like an idiot).

YoungFlexibleShawty 2026-03-05 19:32

I thought this was a post about cheating LOL

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 19:35

Follow would be nice but is likely harder to do since it would require specific training. Caravan mode should be easier to coordinate since the cars could talk to each other though.

NurseDave8 2026-03-05 20:20

I just got that update a couple of days ago. I'll have to check it out. That's on the main screen, not the map app?

CTcoreyCT 2026-03-05 21:12

Same!

No-Leopard-1415 2026-03-05 21:35

Same as it ever was

fastoid 2026-03-05 21:37

You mean Tessie saves the driving log? I guess it cannot be actively involved with parental controls, only past data logs.

AJHenderson 2026-03-05 21:40

Yeah, I can see everything the cars have ever done.

Ambitious_Cycle_3353 2026-03-05 21:42

Tesla cars may have all the technology in the world but it can't fix all the stupid drivers that buy these vehicles.

LordFly88 2026-03-05 22:01

I actually didn't know you could change the destination until I heard a story about some guy having a heart problem, and someone else with access to the car rerouted FSD to the nearest hospital. I was a little skeptical until I tried it myself. Could potentially be useful in rate cases. More so maybe when FSD is unsupervised.

42069burnin 2026-03-06 00:25

How do you do that?

mtbwrecker84 2026-03-06 00:30

In the top row of shortcuts in the app, you can add the fart shortcut.

FragrantProblem7161 2026-03-06 00:37

Wait, how is this not common knowledge for #1? Have you ever opened the actual Tesla app before today?

chessasaur 2026-03-06 00:58

Reasonably. Got my M3LR back in December. I'm 64 and this is the BEST car I've ever owned.

chessasaur 2026-03-06 00:59

Good things to keep in your frunk. ;)

chessasaur 2026-03-06 01:01

Oh, I've used it plenty but this was the first time I've used it while the car wasn't just parked somewhere.

chessasaur 2026-03-06 01:02

I was able to. At one point, it wanted to go right so I "signaled" left and it skipped the turn.

Simple_Ad_3876 2026-03-06 01:04

Well, when you said 64, I had a change of heart lol I won’t give you shit! Congrats and enjoy the car man! I love mine. Bought it December 2024 and then got a Model Y in March 2025

SnotRight 2026-03-06 01:38

3. You can wait until your wife drives that car and then send a random fart.

videoguy75 2026-03-06 01:43

Right on the big right side navigation map.

Dry_Situation_3582 2026-03-06 03:03

Yes and yes.

Interesting-Gas9193 2026-03-06 09:15

Yeah when my wife calls to check how long till I get home I tell her to check the app.

demomanny 2026-03-06 10:32

Does anyone know how to lock the door silently? When I come back late home I don't want to let everybody know when I'm arrived

Relative_Building_81 2026-03-06 12:35

I hope Tesla is stocking Reddit and sees this post and many more with future design ideas. I like your #4 wish!

Elluminated 2026-03-06 15:50

You can also send destinations to the car and have it navigate without having the driver do it

National-Suspect-733 2026-03-06 16:34

My wife has discovered how to make it play a fart sound when I am driving. \*sigh\* Every so often she farts me now.

BadMotherThukker 2026-03-06 18:03

Also #2 hold the stalk to make it make the next turn instead of just pressing momentarily which changes lanes.

ThievingSkallywag 2026-03-06 18:48

Controls > locks > lock confirmation sound

Pbook7777 2026-03-06 19:13

My kids love to do this one to mom.

garrawadreen 2026-03-06 20:03

forget the wife, i talk to my dog via the microphone and into camera 😂

2kwitcookies 2026-03-06 20:43

That's hilarious. I live on a tertiary dead end street. One day I drove past my street as I decided to pick up some coffee. I received a call 10 seconds after passing the street. I answer the call. I was silent for a few seconds and I asked..... Are you following me on the app? She was stunned and could do nothing but laugh hysterically. She was caught red handed because no way you conveniently called the moment I drove past the street you expected me to turn on.

Illyrian2000BC 2026-03-06 23:01

😂😂

annonymousMDstudent 2026-03-07 08:16

Just know that there is an indicator on the screen to let her know you are viewing the app to see where she is driving (:

Leyvaman-MX 2026-03-07 16:57

Yep…and an occasional “Fart”, remotely triggered while my wife is parking at her work…priceless 😉

Realpazalaza 2026-03-08 08:16

Into the blue again, after the money's gone
