Tesla surprising features

What is the most surprising feature you have discovered since driving a Tesla? I like to know your experiences!

tryzepatide 2026-02-28 11:19

This is a little thing but I’ve been enjoying the “auto navigation” that tries to guess where I want to drive based on time of day, starting location, etc. if it’s really confident it auto sets the destination, less confident and it gives some likely choices. It’s been reasonably good at learning some of my routines and easy enough to correct for an exception.

Terrible_Tutor 2026-02-28 11:33

Surprising how comically bad the nav routing is considering they do FSD. Sure lets go the wrong way and do a Uturn to go 3 doors down instead of just drive 3 doors down.

-eccentric- 2026-02-28 12:01

I'm sure everyone knows about the fifth quick button in the app, but i just recently learned that you can drag and drop the seat heating options to the bottom bar, and it'll permanently sit snug in its own place, not interfering with any other item down there or replacing any. It even disappears when there's no passenger.

saurabh69 2026-02-28 12:13

Surprising how good Tesla navigation has become in estimating the destination percent of the battery. This is a huge help in combatting range anxiety as I can plan accordingly. The estimates of my Tesla are always more accurate than apps such as abrp. On the other hand I was surprised how bad the Tesla android app is for the search chargers screen. It is extremely slow and laggy. I just use the search chargers directly from the car screen and it's flawless there.

camel2021 2026-02-28 12:15

My Tesla Y Juniper makes a chime when a red light switches to green.

lamx1 2026-02-28 12:15

That i can look up an address on the Google Maps app and share it to the Tesla app & it’ll appear in the navigation.

SwayingTreeGT 2026-02-28 12:19

Keeping climate on while you’re running errands. It was -25* here a couple weeks back. Running to the bank, or a quick grocery shop you just click “Keep” in the climate screen and the car would stay warm and toasty waiting for me. Love it.

asdf4fdsa 2026-02-28 12:23

Long press the physical button at the trunk to remember the height at that location!

Restekiste 2026-02-28 12:27

You mean the climate screen in the car or in the App? I did not recognise something like this.

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-28 12:28

They all do, not Juniper specific.

camel2021 2026-02-28 12:28

My 2019 model 3 didn’t do that. Edit: My model 3 had hw2.5. This feature is on hw3 and up. There is not a software setting or update that enables this. If the car gets updated to hw3 then it gets this feature. Updating from hw2.5 to hw3 is not software. It is a hardware update.

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-28 12:30

That's because the vehicle's software wasn't updated. They all do it today.

jc3737 2026-02-28 12:35

Im pretty sure that is a Juniper specific feature

camel2021 2026-02-28 12:36

Because you’re so insistent, I googled it. Apparently all cars with hardware 3 and above have this feature. My model 3 had hw2.5. There is no software update that would enable it.

camel2021 2026-02-28 12:37

It is a hardware 3 and up feature.

takesshitsatwork 2026-02-28 12:39

Fair enough, but many 2019s had HW3.

Better_Historian_604 2026-02-28 12:39

My 23 y and 24 m3p both do it

ShivvyMcFly 2026-02-28 12:41

Car. Click the temp, when the screen pops up, click Keep.

crishoj 2026-02-28 12:43

I was surprised to learn that the tap-to-open sensor on the charging port door is located towards the rear. That explained why my ‘26 MSLR barely respond to me tapping the middle

Restekiste 2026-02-28 12:53

Thank you very much! I‘ll have a look

Electronic_Size_4081 2026-02-28 12:59

My 2013 Ford Explorer does that, as I thought most liftgate vehicles do.

Fearless_Signature4u 2026-02-28 13:00

My 2019 does it.

Mattsinclair8731 2026-02-28 13:01

Merci! Presque deux ans que je fais du copier-coller…

Fearless_Signature4u 2026-02-28 13:01

No , I have 2 2022 MY and 2019 M3, they all chirp on green.

rademradem 2026-02-28 13:02

If you put a location in your calendar and have the Tesla log into the calendar, the Tesla will auto route to that location if that calendar entry is coming up soon.

Mattsinclair8731 2026-02-28 13:05

Si l’agenda est synchronisé avec la voiture, et que des rendez-vous avec adresse y sont présents, la navigation s’enclenchera automatiquement si vous montez dans la voiture à l’heure de partir.

Original-Material301 2026-02-28 13:06

I was pretty impressed with how quickly it learned my routine. Probably not all that surprising since my routine is could literally be just five or six places.

Original-Material301 2026-02-28 13:06

Yeah my Volvo does that as well.

Misterholcombe 2026-02-28 13:08

One height a specific location and a different height at another location?

Ok_Individual4716 2026-02-28 13:09

Using your phones calendar app and adding events with addresses will link to your Tesla and automatically navigate you there when the event starts

[deleted] 2026-02-28 13:10

It’s a setting. I think the default is off on older Teslas.

770120437 2026-02-28 13:10

Had mine for 4 years and didn’t know about this !!

Educational_Duty151 2026-02-28 13:11

The car can fart while using blinkers. I’m always using that setting with my father in law. He laughs hard. Every time.

camel2021 2026-02-28 13:12

Hw2.5 does not have this feature.

Creepysarcasticgeek 2026-02-28 13:12

I bought a model 3 in 2017. Here are my list of features that I think are most surprising and have become essential for my next car. 1) start-stop process: no buttons to press to “start the car? No button to stop? I don’t even need to change gear to park? Just make sure the car is stopped, unbuckle, and leave the car. This absolutely blew my mind and is a major convenience when combined with phone key or any fob like key. 2) sentry mode I thought was a gimmick at first, so far we had 2 hit and runs (when the car was parked) and we were able to show the videos to police and identify the vehicles. 3) software that works and is easy to use, navigation that doesn’t require a service appointment ands dvd install and $$ to upgrade. This is standard now but I hadn’t seen it before.

PracticlySpeaking 2026-02-28 13:13

That animation on the touchscreen of air coming out of the vents is also the directional adjustment (for up/down left/right). Or, voice commands.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:14

What about the fact it pulls addresses from your calendar automatically?

DecentPlastic 2026-02-28 13:15

Light show !

Creepysarcasticgeek 2026-02-28 13:17

My 2017 did it after I upgraded the computer to HW3.

FLawless______ 2026-02-28 13:20

And your contacts on phone. I was adding friends and family to favs for 5 months 😆

Snoo81962 2026-02-28 13:20

You are pretty wrong, my MY non juniper has it so had the mX I drove last week.

camel2021 2026-02-28 13:21

Your 2019 has hw3 then.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:29

Do you have entries in your calendar? I've never seen it auto set based on confidence even for places I go every week at the same time but it sets destination for anything in your calendar that it knows the location of.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:30

Odd, my pixel 9 pro xl has no problem searching for chargers but more information is available in car.

TheManInTheShack 2026-02-28 13:31

I didn’t know it could do that!

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:34

This can go both ways too. Nav had an exit from 95 correct (needed to go right because there was a divider and then u-turn). FSD decided it was smarter and tried to turn left into the oncoming lane of the highway and after I forced it to turn right when it tried to u turn it gave up half way through and headed straight for the ramp back to 95 instead of the correct direction nav was indicating.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:35

And you can use two fingers to split the airflow. A lot of people miss that.

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:36

I work 3/4 nights a week and every morning it thinks I want to go to the hospital instead of home.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:37

The amount of access and data everyone can get from service mode. Sure it's hidden a bit but it's an open secret and has a ton of power that most manufacturers don't make available without expensive subscriptions.

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:38

How nice the voice comrades work and how many there are

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:41

My galaxy fold works just fine for mine. (17ms) but sometimes has trouble conecting to my wifes. (14 mx) I dont have any experience with the other models.

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:44

You can also turn it on from the app or schedule the climate control. So you can pre heat or cool the car. It's even better if it's plugged in so it doesn't use the battery to get to temp.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 13:46

Interesting. Mine are both newer, (23 MYP and 24 M3P) but I think the charger search is just talking to Tesla servers rather than the car so I'm not sure why that would be different.

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:46

Mine has a scratch for my garden door when my hatch ran into it. Wish I would have known it could set the height before I scached it.

qpidoh 2026-02-28 13:50

The little chime when the traffic light turns green

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 13:50

That first one is a problem when you switch to a ice car and forget that it doesn't do that and it almost rolls away from you.

fosh1zzle 2026-02-28 13:55

“Open butthole”

dextroz 2026-02-28 13:56

The 2013 Ford Explorer does not save multiple trunk lift gate height adjustments by location. You can only program one level and set it. That's it.

Frankenstein-RedBull 2026-02-28 13:57

Yes me too it’s gotten really smart in a way that makes me think “Am I really that predictable?”

dextroz 2026-02-28 13:58

Volvo cars do not save and automatically retrieve the height adjustments by location.

Fearless_Signature4u 2026-02-28 13:59

Probably

Original-Material301 2026-02-28 13:59

Ah yeah you are correct. It just saves the max height.

Frankenstein-RedBull 2026-02-28 13:59

Did not know this!

dextroz 2026-02-28 14:02

You needed to elaborate on this much more. I didn't know about adding the 5th icon to shortcuts in the app. And what's the heated seat dragging in the app? Also, are you referring to the mobile app or the Tesla dashboard?

LocksmithMuted4360 2026-02-28 14:02

The wipers /s

Creepysarcasticgeek 2026-02-28 14:04

Yes this is correct and it actually happened to me when I visited my parents and borrowed my dads car when j need to have a “quick visit” to the bank. That ended up being an hour long visit. Came back to an unlocked, still running car… yeah I’m not proud of this one.

dextroz 2026-02-28 14:04

>Or, voice commands. Any voice commands or specific ones?

Its-all-downhill-80 2026-02-28 14:08

For me, no. But every morning it knows I go to work usually.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 14:09

Home and work are specific differences based on time of day since they are special presets.

GreetingsFromAP 2026-02-28 14:09

It’s also great keeping it cool in the summer when grocery shopping and hitting multiple stores. Cold stuff stays cold

PracticlySpeaking 2026-02-28 14:11

Voice commands, generally — being able to avoid the touchscreen and keep your hands on the wheel. I haven't tried to identify every one, but you can access most or all of what is on the touchscreen. The real surprise is that sometimes they don't work. For several updates last year, "side mirror" did not work. It would recognize the words, then just display "error" in the little popup.

ttkk1248 2026-02-28 14:11

How do you set the right height before pressing it? Physically stop it while it is going up?

GreetingsFromAP 2026-02-28 14:12

Cancelling nav and restating it halfway through a drive to get different routes. Sometimes if you watch, the further along a drive you are, additional nav options will be suggested, but cancelling and restating ensure you get them

Kapucha 2026-02-28 14:16

Not surprising, but swiping down on the navigation search will navigate to ‘Home’ if set

ttkk1248 2026-02-28 14:18

How do we have Tesla log to a calendar? Via app or car controls? Thx

Jadedslave124 2026-02-28 14:19

Haha, I use the mega horn fart in the school drop off line. It makes my tween turn a perfect shade of pink and emit a goat sound of Mmmoooommm! In embarrassment Love it

ttkk1248 2026-02-28 14:19

Explain more pls, what is service mode? What data can we see? Thx

bfur315 2026-02-28 14:27

so for the 5th icon that’s for the app. what you have to do is drag a shortcut alllll the way to the right of the four shortcuts you already have (like you’re taking it off screen) until you see a box highlight in that area. when you let go the 5th shortcut will be set on the right there. as for the seat heaters you can put the heater controls along the bottom bar on your cars screen, and it just makes a little section for the heater itself and doesn’t interfere with the rest of the shortcuts you already have set. super convenient. why it isn’t there by default i have no idea.

BB-41 2026-02-28 14:31

It’s also good to keep the car cool when grocery shopping so that the ice cream isn’t soup before you get home.

AJHenderson 2026-02-28 14:38

You go into software I think it is and hold down on the model logo until the screen flashes. Then enter the password "service". It has a diagnostic log, certain maintenance tasks and a very fully flushed out monitoring and status system to see how the car is operating and what is and isn't correct. It's a tremendous amount of data.

omnibossk 2026-02-28 14:48

Got surprised and happy when I suddenly got Adaptive Headlights in an update. I’ve never touched the high/low beams since.

Jbsmitty44 2026-02-28 14:50

Every Christmas Eve, mine auto-navigates to the dump where I take boxes 😂

cwgtimkv 2026-02-28 14:50

Really? Mine thinks I want to go to work at 2pm or on weekends. I've never once driven to the office during those times before.

Far-Loan-2714 2026-02-28 14:52

The seat heaters now have an “auto” setting that will turn them on and off based on desired climate control temperature and other factors. Simply brilliant and as far as I know, the only EV with this feature.

grogi81 2026-02-28 14:56

There are a few features that really surpised me: * Curve assist or whatever it is called. Remove that crap! * Autonomous braking. The visual-based phantom braking got better or maybe I learned where it will be triggered. There are however a few spots on the motorway that the set speed drops to 30 mph and car suddently starts braking...

grogi81 2026-02-28 14:57

Mine 8 Pro is aweful. The app crashes 30% of the time...

bnnybtch 2026-02-28 14:58

this made no sense for mine.. I went to a hardware store once and it decided every sunday afternoon I want to go there lol

rareshroom 2026-02-28 15:04

You can also swipe right

leffer00 2026-02-28 15:11

How to add more 'Quick Control' shortcut icons to the Tesla app https://share.google/cgOKtqILECHl1MaFk

dextroz 2026-02-28 15:20

Does it work on Android too in case you are an iPhone because I can't seem to get it to add that fifth item.

nkydky1 2026-02-28 15:21

Voice command - "Keep Climate" is my go to

Dreamwell444 2026-02-28 15:30

Dude hilarious but true ![gif](giphy|fUYhyT9IjftxrxJXcE)

branchan 2026-02-28 15:30

My non-juniper does that so no

770120437 2026-02-28 15:32

thanks man, I knew about the other climate control features and pre condition etc but not this keep feature .. bloody brilliant

steebulee 2026-02-28 15:33

If you have an iPhone i programmed my action button to set my cars temperature whenever i push it before I get to my car.

dextroz 2026-02-28 15:34

Thanks!

steebulee 2026-02-28 15:37

I’ve never understood tapping charge port. I’ve always just pushed the button on the charger nozzle and it automatically opens it. I’ve never tapped the port once.

rExplrer 2026-02-28 15:37

You can even share YouTube video to Tesla app, it opens up in car

bigbouncybelly 2026-02-28 15:40

I have my work schedule in my phone it changes every week but it's predictable. And one of my preconditioning location is my work.

yolo-yoshi 2026-02-28 15:47

You just changed my life with this one. Comment 😂

BayWinger 2026-02-28 15:50

I didn't think it worked on my Android until I saw some advice to press on the far left of the icon, then pull it in

quetiapinenapper 2026-02-28 15:52

Careful with that. At least with iOS double check it in the car. Mine almost sent me ten minutes away from the actual address Apple Maps had sent when I drove to a play. I don’t know about Google Maps though but I’ve just started using grok in the car to grab an address and go. Apple seems to have had some handoff issues lately with things

nkydky1 2026-02-28 15:54

I use voice commands for anything I can. "Keep Climate" and "car wash mode" are really nice. You can change drive modes and stuff too. "Chill mode" or "sport mode" etc.

No-Abbreviations4075 2026-02-28 15:56

Dude this is amazing. I just thought Android couldn't do it lol Thank you!

GnomeChild42 2026-02-28 15:57

Can you explain the heating Trick I can’t get it to work

GnomeChild42 2026-02-28 15:59

Where is this setting

GnomeChild42 2026-02-28 16:00

Where is this setting?

mac10190 2026-02-28 16:01

"Open Butthole"

yolo-yoshi 2026-02-28 16:04

Like no joke bro. I'm being very serious. You are blowing my mind with this stuff. 😂 The voice commands always just seem useless to me in general, but I think I might start experimenting with it more just to see what it can and cannot do Here I am like some plebeian scouring through the menus

BayWinger 2026-02-28 16:04

Same for my Pixel 10 pro, terrible. Crashes all over the place and slow

nkydky1 2026-02-28 16:13

I use an Alexa for a lot of my home controls for lights, temperature, TV etc. So it made sense to me to try the same thing in the car 😂

digitaldisorder_ 2026-02-28 16:20

Voice command > “Open butthole”

yolo-yoshi 2026-02-28 16:24

I have Google for that stuff as well and Siri to a lesser extent which is where my attitude for its usefulness comes from. 😂 But yeah I just assumed teslas would be even less useful, good to see that that isn't the case.

BigAssMonkey 2026-02-28 16:25

Yes

Elegant-Bed-4807 2026-02-28 16:29

In the Tesla calendar app select sync calendar

BigAssMonkey 2026-02-28 16:30

That will navigate you to your last Tinder hookup

ScottRoberts79 2026-02-28 16:30

Via app

--Racer-X-- 2026-02-28 16:31

Voice commands are under rated. Wipers level 2, navigate to 2334 Howe st, open butt hole

rademradem 2026-02-28 16:41

https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_mo/GUID-68582EA9-CBE5-4474-880E-3EF4992002DF.html#GUID-28EF2EB4-FC30-4002-98F5-5482075534F2. The instructions are the same for any Tesla model

Tilmanstoa5ty 2026-02-28 16:47

Is this available with basic autopilot or do you need enhanced or fsd for this? Or is this not related to autopilot at all? Currently in the market for a tesla and learning about all the features.

namiraj 2026-02-28 16:52

I was most surprised when they took AWAY the ability of my key fob to Summon a few feet forward out of tight parking spaces. I used that feature EVERY single day, and now it is some how 'not supported' after a random update. WTF?? I get angry every time I get in my car now.

BAdhia 2026-02-28 16:55

Best way to avoid this is to eat the ice cream just as soon as you come out of the store. Most enjoyable. 🤷‍♂️

BAdhia 2026-02-28 16:58

It knows where you SHOULD be going. 🥹

Few_Hamster_4955 2026-02-28 17:07

It's enabled on basic also, at least in Europe where I am based

CR8VJUC 2026-02-28 17:08

Does not work consistently for me in my 21 MYP. Almost half the time the light turns green, no chime.

crishoj 2026-02-28 17:10

For Tesla charging hardware definitely button is the way to go. But my home charger is non-Tesla, hence the fallback to tapping

psaux_grep 2026-02-28 17:14

«Keep Summer safe» as well

crcerror 2026-02-28 17:15

I didn’t know you could tell it car wash mode. Does it also allow for putting it in neutral at the same time???

rareshroom 2026-02-28 17:15

Correct. 'Home'

I_love_Timhortons 2026-02-28 17:18

camp mode

SocalSexxiMexi 2026-02-28 17:22

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the Tesla android app?

BB-41 2026-02-28 17:22

Yeah but four boxes of Drumsticks (8 per box)? They were on 1/2 price sale after all.

oasacorp 2026-02-28 17:27

What really? Nervy knew this Edit: Never*

TheManInTheShack 2026-02-28 17:30

Very cool! Thanks for the tip! It just never occurred to me to try it.

steebulee 2026-02-28 17:31

Ahh ok was not aware. Thanks.

HarleyDS 2026-02-28 17:36

Is this a serious question? If so, it’s the Tesla app but for an Android OS phone vs the Tesla App for the Apple iOS phones.

SocalSexxiMexi 2026-02-28 17:43

I was asking which app specifically....

Gremlin256 2026-02-28 17:44

It doesn't learn routines. I have it to navigate to my house, it always wants to choose another way that is longer.. can't even tap to change the route as well. Have to end trip and start it again after it goes past the exit

KilroyKSmith 2026-02-28 17:45

“My butt is cold”

Head_Ship4359 2026-02-28 17:47

Die offene API Schnittstelle. Da werden noch viele geniale Dinge kommen. Teslamate finde ich zb total super.

InfernalCombust 2026-02-28 18:03

The amount of settings, which follow the driver profile. It is like having two different cars - one for me and one for my wife.

MY-memoryhole 2026-02-28 18:04

Open butthole

D1stRU3T0R 2026-02-28 18:13

Never saw it working lol

RuthlessIndecision 2026-02-28 18:15

Scheduling climate for when it's time to leave go to or come back from work. Warms the interior in the winter, cools it down in summer, don't even think about it , unless i leave early or late

zeddtheman 2026-02-28 18:16

Well back when I got mine in 2023 the most amazing thing for me was the basic autopilot (auto steer) too bad now they wanna make you pay for FSD. At least mine has enhanced autopilot already installed but still.

[deleted] 2026-02-28 18:16

[deleted]

Ok_Contact_5940 2026-02-28 18:17

Yes.

Ok_Contact_5940 2026-02-28 18:19

That one got me more than once. 😵‍💫

Ok_Contact_5940 2026-02-28 18:20

You have to turn it on.

Ok_Contact_5940 2026-02-28 18:21

Me too. Occasionally, not often, I don’t get the chime. Usually when I’m back from the lead car at the light.

xtram3x 2026-02-28 18:34

It does it even when you're not using auto pilot. If you wait more than half a second before moving when the light turns green, it'll play a small wake up chime in case you're day dreaming lol

bjb8 2026-02-28 18:35

Had it for 8 years so have seen a lot of advancements over that time. I think being able to view the cameras remotely is really handy. Also to remotely review the sentry/dashcam recordings.

Tilmanstoa5ty 2026-02-28 18:36

Where are you based? I‘m in germany and our stop lights are very close to the line we stop at so they are sometimes harder to see. I think the system in the us with the stop lights on the opposite site is way better for this feature.

I discovered that after buying a new Model 3 and handing in my old one last week, Tesla still haven't removed the old only from my account (despite me asking multiple times). Today I started the light show remotely and watched on the animation of the car as somebody opened the doors to stop it. Being of a rather serious disposition myself, I thought it only right to make it fart for good measure while they were sorting it. I wonder what shenanigans tomorrow will bring...

"Keep climate" is different - it keeps the climate on when you leave the car until you return. You can do that from the app too, but while i the car you just press the temperature and "Keep Climate" button and that's it.

I thought everyone knew this, but in park at any location, Go to schedule, And set the departure time and days of the week. It will set to the last climate setting you had it on when it's time to leave (Roughly 15 minutes before the scheduled time you set it at) Enjoy! It's pretty good, no remote start, just leave at a normal time

swedishpiehole 2026-02-28 23:30

This is fantastic if you have a regular schedule. However it BLOWS MY MIND that you can't schedule a one-time precondition or climate. If you need to leave at 6 pm today and want to schedule climate to be ready when you leave, the only way to do this is to set a \*weekly\* schedule that you have to remember to delete afterward. It has been like this for years and the fact that you can't set an ad hoc one time precondition in 2026 attests to the fact that in some ways Tesla hates its customers.

Laughndragon 2026-02-28 23:49

HW3 or HW4? What model? Year?

Laughndragon 2026-02-28 23:51

Shame HW3 isn't capable of this 😭

That it automatically pulls the address for my appointments in the calendar. Say I have to see a new doctor at 4pm, I'll save that to my calendar on the phone and add the address to the event. When I get into my car around 3pm, it automatically turns on navigation to that address. Fantastic, I can just get in and GO without fumbling trying to set it up again

jeffcrilly2 2026-02-28 23:55

The ability to change the walk-away auto lock sound. I’ve only had the 2026 for a week now… but I still get a bit of a surprise when I walk away from the mean lookin red and black M3P … and it makes the little rubber-ducky sound. Priceless.

xylarr 2026-03-01 00:11

There might have been an update already, but I had an issue on my Pixel 9 where simply showing the supercharger locations on the map would crash out the app to the home screen. I'd usually have to give it a couple of goes before it would stay on the map screen.

xylarr 2026-03-01 00:13

Nervy sounds like the name of a skittish cat.

To unlock the charging port when using a non-tesla charger that doesn't have a button on the handle, simply hold open the rear left door handle for five seconds. Yes it opens the door, but just close it after. Much easier than faffing around in the app to unlock the charge port.

The HW4 vehicles came out with it enabled. All the HW3 vehicles that are slightly younger than the OG model 3 had matrix hardware fitted, but it was several years before it actually got enabled.

Laughndragon 2026-03-01 00:21

A 2017 Model S 100D wouldn't have matrix lighting straight from the factory then would it 🤔

I enjoyed being able to update the type of wheels in the app after removing the aero covers. It not only updates the visuals on screen but IIRC it also updates your range to account for the change.

Practical_Brief5633 2026-03-01 00:39

The capability of Grok in the car. I prefer GPT to Grok but with some proper prompting you can do some extremely in depth structured analytical techniques with it. It has real time news access so that makes it even better. Theres some deficiencies but nothing is perfect. If you want, you could craft some crazy logic matrixes with it. I’m excited for when they allow you to save your conversations so you can readdress them later. The other is just the intelligence of the FSD. Usually I take over in any dicey areas such as school zones, or whatever. However the other day I was going through a slow construction zone so it felt safe to test its limits. It drove through paths that crossed lanes, and it went through all sorts of interesting obstacles. Not a single fault. The moment it exited the construction zone it pulled into the correct lane and drove perfectly normal. Insanely intuitive “decision making” when met with a scenario that requires some problem solving.

pipinngreppin 2026-03-01 00:55

True. It’s especially bad with current sports but ChatGPT is also.

nkydky1 2026-03-01 01:35

When you do car wash mode there will be a button to "enable free roll". You don't have to actually put it in neutral.

crcerror 2026-03-01 01:49

I get that part. Do it all the time, but when using the voice command, what does that do with my screen? Do I have the option to enable it?

s_nz 2026-03-01 02:03

Having the car configure the drivers seat and mirrors (excl center) based on the person who's phone / fob is near the drivers door when they open it. Our family has one car and two vastly different sized drivers. Automating this is extremely convenient (even compared to our prior lexus which had button activated memory seats). Range estimation in my hot location seems to be extremely accurate. Anouther world from our prior leaf.

Rusted breaklines after 5 year owner ship, that are BEHIND the main battery. Three days in the shop, over 5k euro as it’s not covered under warranty apparently. So a really nice feature is rustable breaklines and lack of design-for-repairability. Fucking shitbox.

BillyBumBrain 2026-03-01 07:13

I don’t use FSD because the few glitches are too serious for me. Unsafe. But while I was trying it for a month I approached some roadworks and thought “there’s no way it will handle ANY of this”. The workman was setting out the witches hats further down the road, the situation was complex and evolving in real time. Damned if the car didn’t navigate it to absolute perfection.

remilol 2026-03-01 07:20

crishoj 2026-03-01 07:35

To see alternative routes mid journey, you can also change the map view to “overview” (tap the navigation instruction). I believe it will show the same possible routes in this overview

Drag the seat heat control to the toolbar. Then tap it to toggle between off / low / mid / high / auto.

bananaboatssss 2026-03-01 12:12

I wish they did something like that with the front doors, to open the frunk.

swedishpiehole 2026-03-01 12:16

Thanks for this tip, I feel a bit silly that I didn’t realize there was the option to turn off repeat weekly. However the idea of having to “set a schedule” in order to set a one-time precondition feels unnecessary. I wish there were two options: set a schedule or set a one-time precondition.

Found_Account 2026-03-01 13:26

Should be a HW3 feature

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 13:36

I just wish the driver would receive an alert when it happens during driving. As of now, the route is just recalculated silently. This is bad if another user of the car pulled a prank on the driver by sending a new destination (which my wife and I don't). It is also bad if the the other user sent the location and actually *wanted* the driver to notice it (which my wife and I often do). When you are being picked up by your spouse, it is incredibly convenient to be able to share your location with the Tesla app if you find a better place to be picked up. The car will automatically start navigating to your location. My wife and I often use that. But we have had some misunderstandings because the reroute happened silently and wasn't noticed by the driver. We ignore the navigation much of the time because we know where we are going. And we rarely turn it off, because it is still convenient to be alerted of traffic problems, even when we know where we are going. So now we have to do both: First send the destination to the app, and then call the driver on the phone.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 13:47

The estimated arrival time and SoC were probably calculated with a speed below the limit. If I drive where the speed limit is 130 km/h, and I stick to the speed limit, I will usually arrive earlier and with lower SoC than predicted by the navigation. On the other hand, if I lower my speed to 110-120 km/h, I usually arrive at the predicted time and SoC.

Found_Account 2026-03-01 13:47

Hardly a feature, but I was surprised how long it took me to realize that the passenger climate button goes away when there is no one in the seat.

Braqsus 2026-03-01 13:51

Ahh interesting. You’d think they’d calculate it using the standard speed limits.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 13:52

And you were right. The hardware for the matrix headlights was silently put in Model 3/Y from 2021 onwards. They were activated in an OTA update 1-2 years later, at least in Europe.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 13:59

Examples of what you can see: - Temperatures in several locations in the cooling system, including temperatures before and after the battery. - Status on each parking sensor (if the car is old enough to have those). - Status on each Bluetooth radio, and the signal strength from the active phone to each radio. (I once used that to find my phone, which had gone missing in the car!). - Alerts. - Views from all cameras.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 14:03

Never lean against a safety feature. It will stop being a safety feature and will start becoming a potential point of failure. I still press the park button before opening the door, even though I know the car will do it for me when I open the door.

Braqsus 2026-03-01 14:03

I had several times where the button didn’t work so I had to tap it. Basically all in one trip so it might have been a weirdness with my car that day

Braqsus 2026-03-01 14:04

Hahahahahahahahaha! This is gold

Braqsus 2026-03-01 14:13

I just need to remember what I set it too now

Braqsus 2026-03-01 14:14

lol

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 14:15

The last setting used **at that location**. When you arrive at work in the morning, you can set a departure time in the afternoon for preconditioning of the cabin. It will keep doing it that every day at that time, but only if the car is at that location. So on days where you are not at work, you will not have to worry about wasting electricity on cabin preconditioning by that schedule. This is probably in the Top 5 of "Most convenient Tesla feature not being used because people don't know about it."

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 14:18

No need for feeling silly. Preconditioning without scheduling is a rather new feature.

Braqsus 2026-03-01 14:20

Oof. Had so many issues with phantom braking on TACC today. And weird activations of curvature control. It was…exciting

RuthlessIndecision 2026-03-01 14:21

Not sure about this because in the winter it warms and in the summer it cools... and if I leave the AC or heat on full blast, I'll return to it on full blast, so yes maybe you're right, I don't know if there's even a point to be made, as your climate will always be set to where your car is...

InfernalCombust 2026-03-01 14:23

But in the S, you have a button at the charge port? Or was that only the old S?

RuthlessIndecision 2026-03-01 14:36

You can set it a week in advance, like when arriving from a trip, the car will be defrosted and warm... kind of good the proliferation of EVs slowed now (or so the news would have me believe), in the sense there are only a set amount of plugs available at the airport parking lot. But otherwise the EV adaption is better for everyone everywhere.

-eccentric- 2026-03-01 16:49

It's really good. They should use the same system for the actual range on the screen. I *always* end up with that it predicts, no matter how i drive.

-eccentric- 2026-03-01 16:52

What i never understood is people slapping their tail light with the actual charger for some reason.

camobiwon 2026-03-01 17:14

I like the feature but wish it didn't use the same sound as the park assist indicator. A unique sound for it would be nice to recognize.

Mister_Prometheus 2026-03-01 17:28

I always give it a gentle slap it before putting it in.

Mister_Prometheus 2026-03-01 17:30

The la cucaracha one really turns heads here in California. 😂

Mister_Prometheus 2026-03-01 17:31

On my car I just push the handle in slightly partway for a fraction of a second and it unlocks.

swedishpiehole 2026-03-01 17:35

That's a detail I was not aware of, thank you. Your example is a good one, but what about preconditioning in the morning before work? Imagine you travel and leave your car at home and forget to turn off your daily "leave for work" schedule. It would be very useful to have an option to have the app prompt before running a certain schedule. In my case, I would love to set it for weekday mornings for my school drop off runs, but I really can't because there are days when there is no school or when school is delayed due to snow. It would be wasting energy heating up the car in those cases. What if it could sync with my calendar and not precondition on days that say "no school"?

So many things us Tesla drivers take for granted. It’s not until you get into a stupid car that you realize how elite the Tesla is. 🥰 Another cool feature is when not using FAD and you flip on the blinker to switch lanes it will flip it off automatically after the lane change is complete. Also, if your GPS sees another turn or lane change imminent based on where you’re going it will also leave the blinker on until the turn/lane change is complete.

kgyre 2026-03-01 17:49

Limo stops as the default when regenerative braking.

TheEvilBlight 2026-03-01 17:51

The auto is def horrendous

TheEvilBlight 2026-03-01 17:51

From Google Maps or nav on Tesla mobile app?

TheEvilBlight 2026-03-01 17:53

That was new update right(

TheEvilBlight 2026-03-01 17:54

We can do this?

quetiapinenapper 2026-03-01 18:25

When you set it as a honk does it do a normal honk first and then the sound or what? Never tried it other than the preview one for fun.

No-Cream8257 2026-03-01 19:01

PAUSE

jeffcrilly2 2026-03-01 19:05

It wasn’t in my 2018 model 3 (that I had for the past 7 years)… I’m not sure when the outside speaker got introduced.

basketballbrian 2026-03-01 19:29

I didn’t even know my car had drive modes lol

OdinNW 2026-03-01 19:35

The automatic windshield washing thing still surprises me. Oh and the automatic headlights dimming out other cars but keeping the brights on other spots is still a trip.

GreatSince86 2026-03-01 20:10

Mine will bring up options of where to go based on the current time and the last time I navigated.

GreatSince86 2026-03-01 20:10

Do you navigate to work? Is the last time you use navigate from home to your hospital around the same time? Try navigating to work

Hopeful-Confidence-9 2026-03-01 20:37

Driver seat lumbar support!!

Key-Insurance-8002 2026-03-01 22:22

Or if you’re at home, swipe down will navigate to work.

kdenehy 2026-03-01 22:34

Performing some of the basic functions using my Apple Watch - lock/unlock open/close trunk, open frunk, honk horn, etc. Can even use it as a key (no phone required).

thaJack 2026-03-01 23:03

I make mine fart in the drop-off line, too... and for the same reason.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:17

I had no idea! That’s brilliant.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:19

I’ve found the voice controls hit or miss as they have to be programmed with the exact wording. It seems like there have been improvements. Car wash mode will be fun to try.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:23

Use it all the time. You need to enable it. Cannot recall where it is buried on the screen.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:26

It’s my favorite feature. I use it all the time when I going somewhere new.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:26

Google Maps handoff has been flawless for me.

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:27

That’s cool!

gecoble 2026-03-02 00:40

More cowbell is my favorite Easter Egg. For those who don’t know, put your car is self driving mode on the highway. Then use the same stalk and pull it down 5x to activate. Rainbow lights and a clip from the SNL bit.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-02 01:06

Most navigations I have ever used, do not. Tesla is not any different.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-02 01:08

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was describing schedule settings, not temperature settings.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-02 01:11

Yes, your morning schedule will run when the car is at home, on the weekdays it is set to run. You can disable/switch the schedule in the app.

InfernalCombust 2026-03-02 01:17

> kind of good the proliferation of EVs slowed now (or so the news would have me believe), in the sense there are only a set amount of plugs available at the airport parking lot. I surely hope you understand that those plugs are there **because** people are buying EVs. If people stop buying EVs, installation of new chargers will stop. That would be silly to wish for if you want better access to chargers.

RuthlessIndecision 2026-03-02 03:11

Yup I re read your comments

RuthlessIndecision 2026-03-02 03:22

When I said "otherwise", I meant in the most broad way, broad enough to make my convenience ridiculous. The number of chargers at this particular place hasn't changed in 7 years, nor has their first come first served free trickle charging policy. So I wonder where the momentum is going, that's all.

Laughndragon 2026-03-02 03:32

I wonder if this is an upgradeable option 🤔

Laughndragon 2026-03-02 03:33

I can’t wait for you to get FSD enabled 🤩 Life changer 💯

Southern-Fortune-626 2026-03-02 04:01

I love this one!

lance466 2026-03-02 04:26

Yes. You’ll see it pop up in the screen. Just used it today.

lance466 2026-03-02 04:27

You can adjust the airflow on the vents via the screen with the a/c or heater on. Tap climate and slide L/R or U/D.

JayNamath 2026-03-02 05:07

HW3 >

Hardvig 2026-03-02 05:29

What model and year is that?

Mister_Prometheus 2026-03-02 05:32

2018 model 3.

Mister_Prometheus 2026-03-02 05:47

Never tried it as a honk actually. I just use it in preview mode.

crcerror 2026-03-02 06:53

Awesome! Thank you.

Jethrust 2026-03-02 14:24

Not a surprise per se, but overall the user experience with remote ac/heating was way better than I realized.

origosis 2026-03-02 14:56

My only request for this feature is if it had an option to keep it enabled all day / until I return to a set location. Sometimes I am in and out of the car 5 different times and not needing to turn it back on each time would be nice.

quetiapinenapper 2026-03-02 16:26

Haha me too. I wish there was a shortcut to use those from the app. I also wish there was a car wash mode toggle from the app to be honest.

vits99 2026-03-03 17:55

You need HW3

ajeezy1414 2026-03-04 03:26

I agree. I’ve had the car maybe 3 weeks and I’ve got probably 10 “schedules” lol

RuthlessIndecision 2026-03-04 04:42

I believe climate controls use a lot less energy than moving the car, but you can unscheduled for days or weeks off your schedule.

Mako747 2026-03-04 18:20

This works way too slow for NYC. By the time the chime hits there are several people honking at me.

Cudizonedefense 2026-03-09 15:35

Wait wtf how do you do this

steebulee 2026-03-09 15:58

https://preview.redd.it/1ouvk6j2l1og1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d2e1318486b28a384004179e25bb0aa70cfbb7c I created this shortcut, then go to selecting your action button as what you want it to do and select this shortcut
